>Thank the gentleman by kindly feeding him the rest of your sandwich.
You would, but you left it back at the bar. Good thing you still haven't paid for it.

>Afterwards, inquire about purchasing some of those fancy crocodile heads Inpu appears to collect.
"At once."

>Do take the detoxifying needles away from him as you question him on the matter. They may distract him from the conversation. Offer him one once he tells you where they are stored, though.
Unfortunately, the needle has vanished as quickly as it appeared.

Horemakhet assists you out of bed and leads you into the next room, which happens to be a neat office. Behind the desk are a number of books on a shelf. To the desk's right is a cabinet with the crocodile heads in it, mummified and painted. To its left is a chair. Horemakhet sits you on the chair and instructs you to wait, leaving through the door he came in.

This might be a long wait, so surely there's little harm in poking around a bit. You could even think of what you want to say and which head you'd prefer before the man in charge meets you.

His desk has a number of trinkets on it. In the middle seems to be a closed diary with a pen lain on the cover.

Pick the blue head with the ahnk neklace. It's probably the most powerful.

Condolencegratulations! The Empire has recognized your politically inconvenient unique contributions and will punish reward you with exile an opportunity to explore a newly discovered, potentially habitable world.

Everybody roll up third level Pathfinder 1e characters, 4d6 drop one for ability scores.
Initially available classes are:
Cleric (theoretician, ideological troublemaker),
Rogue (engineer, surgeon, practical troublemaker),
and Monk (milspec full cyborg, maintenance burden).

You'll be discovering the basics of magic as you go, including a nonstandard spell list, so to start with, rather than specific spells and domains, clerics should just pick one of https://questden.org/wiki/Please_do_not_Take_these_Organs#The_Old_Gods and one from among the set [envy, gluttony, lust, greed, pride, sloth, wrath].

Destination will be revealed once ten characters are ready. Multiple characters per player is acceptable.

Instead of D&D-style starting equipment, you'll be driving a solar-powered all-terrain tour bus, submersible to 30 atmospheres, complete with automated sickbay, machine shop, flying scout drones... almost everything you might need. Emphasis on "almost." The ATV's regenerative life support can provide fresh air and water indefinitely, but if you want to eat anything besides barely-palatable MREs, gotta either forage at the destination, or count it toward somebody's personal-baggage allotment.
Within that 50lb-per-person limit, any and all present-day or plausible near-future equipment (in GURPS terms, TL 9, no superscience) is potentially available. Tactical nuclear warheads are not recommended, and the smallest type viable at that tech level is well over 50lb, so in order to bring one, two

>Rolling spellcraft to attempt to identify the magic item.
Reading the dweomer directly would require a spell for the active scan, and the appropriate general-purpose version is not one which Yrja has prepared. However, those decorative elements provide clues toward a possible alternative. Oak leaves often symbolize endurance or persistence; butcher's-broom is a type of laurel and so, worn on the head, represents victory; and yew, especially when paired with black pearl, signifies death.
> rolled 11
> no ranks in Knowledge (Religion)
Whether the three taken together are meant to represent an enduring victory over death or the inevitable victory OF death is debatable, particularly with so little immediate cultural context to work from, but either way it implies another, more readily available, aura spectrum which might reveal what you want to know. Willing to try casting Detect Undead?

Improvised intelligence testing while tree crab is confined in the automed... no response to various communication attempts, unless you count attacking the blinking light. Tool-use puzzles mostly resulted in attempts to eat whichever components were within reach. Hard to be absolutely sure, of course, but between all that, and patterns in what the medical scanners tentatively identified as traces of nerve activity, reasonably confident it's way down there with fruit flies, koalas, or earthworms, and doesn't even feel pain.
Biochemically it's pretty weird. Copper-based blood. Muscles and connective tissue make extensive use of an amino acid previously known only from obscure microbes, while several common components are seemingly entirely absent, so if rations ran out and you tried to live on tree-crab meat alone, there'd soon be problems related to malnutrition. No apparent serious toxins, though, and when a slip-up with the lab glassware released fumes from a tissue sample which had been heated enough to caramelize, it smelled absolutely delicious.

Ok, there's nothing wrong with that hair, it's a bit strange looking and that green is usually awful but the gradient you ended up with and your already strange hair work well together making it exotic instead of strange.

Just prepare yourself mentally. You're going to go outside, be around people, and talk about yourself. Talking should come easy, you have a plethora of grand adventure to draw on. Maybe practice a bit since vocalization isn't your strong suit. Avoid getting too drawn into your emotional state because that's what'll draw you into talking about the constant gnawing hunger and all the other things that'll make normies run.

Just don't insert your information willy-nilly and you'll be fine.

Jubilee breaks the depressing atmosphere with a suggestion. “I know! How about we ease the tension a little bit!” Harvey looks a bit flustered.

“Well… I mean it’s not that I’m not uh… interested in you, ma’am. I’m just not sure it’d be right. I’ve still got a wife and all, hah.” Jubilee chuckles. This is prime teasing territory.

She stands up and waltzes over to the kiosk. “Oh please, your wife doesn’t have to know about a little bowling game!” Zenith and Cooper giggle, turning the bear beet-red once again. She punches in the party’s four names: COOP, ZEEN, HARV, JBEE. She walks back, holding her hand out to Cooper. “The usual?” They nod and hand the menu to her.

Zenith chimes in, “And a couple of mimosas, just you and me. Coop’s gotta drive.” Jubilee nods and turns to Harvey. “Water for the bear. I need him sober.”

“Not even a shot for confidence?” He chuckles.

“Oh, we don’t do shots here anymore. We’re pretty strict on drinks after the incident.” Harvey looks very concerned, but decides not to ask. “I’ll be back in a bit, go ahead and start without me!” With that, she’s off to the “kitchen” to prep those orders.

>Time to get a perfect strike on your first go so the client knows that you are a capable detective who can get the job done.

Cooper steps up to the lane, takes a breath, and throws their first ball. It’s a good 8, but splitter. They drop to their knees, devastated by being a capable detective who cannot get the job done. “Anyway, now that the pleasantries are out of the way, back to business.” Zenith states. Harvey shuffles in his seat and nods.

>Hm, maybe we should ask to learn a little more about the history of his relationship with his wife

“Let’s take it from the top. Give me a timeline. What was your relationship with Beth like up to this point?”

“Well let’s see here… We met when I was 19 and she was 21. We went to university together. We didn’t hit it off instantly, but she asked me out and, I guess I had a thing for her too. She’s warm, funny, loves talking, and I was a pretty good listener. We were there for each other. For some reason, she felt safe around me. Eventually, we moved in together while I was finishing up college, but then I got an offer from the Naval Armed Services for a couple years to be an extra bit of muscle. We were looking at hard times and almost no wiggle room for finances, and the money from the government couldn’t hurt, so I was sent off to the seas. We sent each other letters and such and we missed each other dearly. I’d like to say I got so sad that I cried until I went blind in my eye, but it was probably something to do with the head trauma. When I got back, we got married and that was that!”

“No children?”

“Oh heavens no! As compatible as we are, we’ve still got uh… The wrong… Biological compatibility. Besides, Beth hates kids. As much of a great wife she is, she’s told me how awful of a mother she’d make. I don’t quite see it, but I’m

Previous Chapter: https://talehole.com/kusaba/questarch/res/947489.html

After apprehending the two intruders and hauling them in for questioning, it turns out that the tiny one is the daughter of two of the lead scientists at this facility and she's going to get off with a slap on the wrist.

"You should have just let the staff handle the entire incident. What were you thinking?" said Dr. Nui Salo.

"They were leaking out into the outdoors. What if they got into town?" Keimi replied hotly.

"Grey here is a professional Hunter and the on-site military personnel had most of the outbreak contained. You were just being wreckless," Nui said

"Who's being wreckless letting monsters out of their secret lab, hmm?"

Those two were going back and forth when Grey came over to talk to me.

"I'm going to have you keep an eye on these two and operate in the civilian area for a while."

"What? Why me?

"Because we want to make sure they don't let anything slip they're not supposed to and to keep them out of trouble."

"There’s got to be a better way to deal with them than making me babysit," I protested.

"There is another reason I'm going to assign you to this," Grey continued. "I want you to spend some time with some relatively normal people your own age. Hunters aren't the most well-balanced people in the world and I don't want my sister to become totally socially maladjusted. It would make me look bad."

You know she's the (cloned?) daughter of the lead scientist at that facility you were hired to clean out, right? Of course she's brilliant at analyzing, and calculating. The interesting thing is her erratic, weird angle shots. She is using your reflexes against you, but she's doing it in a very... spontaneous and creative way. Shows she has a high intuition, makes leaps of logic, and may have problems with coldly methodical persistence. If you used an unfair, dead simple strategy to defeat her repeatedly, she'd probably flip her lid.

The other interesting thing is how many drinks she's had. It's not just that she drinks a lot. She has the smallest body of anyone else in this group. How is she holding her liquor like that? Body size puts a hard limit on your alcohol tolerance, you were pretty sure at any rate.

Keimi's liver-to-tiny-body ratio must be insane. Do a quick headmath check on how drunk she ought to be given her size vs number of drinks and alcohol content. She's not too old, so she couldn't have built up some kind of insane tolerance, right?

And lucky your ass! She's just good. Trick shots are a splendid way to score in air hockey. Shame skill-based games get increasingly out as folks get drunker, or you'd challenge her to some other game, like dance dance revolution.

Karaoke is traditionally the next step up in the loosening inhibitions drunk fun ladder, but I don't see any machines for that here. Maybe there's a bar nearby that allows it?

If not, challenge Keimi and Rikke and anyone else who wants to a shooting game-off, just to test how well your actual shooting skills translate. Probably the gang here have all played the few games around before, so should have some home ground advantage.

Beneath the prism, Cookie's clothes change. Bows as dark as the midnight sky adorn the top of her ears, and she wears a wizard's robe that glitters with stars from the deepest reaches of space.

Cookie now possesses the power of fire, sourced from none other than the Big Bang, the birth of the universe. It is up to her to use these flames to cleanse and heal. With that in mind, how does she approach the monster? How will she save Marshal?
>>
No. 1076950 ID: 273c18

>>1076945
Well, first, experiment with your power. You have some mussels embedded in you, can you purge them with fire? Can you extinguish the flames at will?
Once you have a handle on it, engulf the main body of the monster. If the flames are harmless to friendly targets you may as well cover Marshall in them, but if the purging process is painful you might have to take it slow with him once you've gotten him separated from the monster.
>>
No. 1076978 ID: dd3fe0

So, you don't necessarily have fire as you understand it. You kay have some sort of incredibly hot and dense and fast moving and pressurized plasma, the makeup of which will depend on how long after the Big Bang you are making your draw. Or, since Magical Girl, you probably have something that is more conceptually associated with dense, hot, fast moving, uniform plasma. So, you know, if you throw a fire lance at someone (and it'd be a beam, cause pressure and speed and such), it isn't necessary a WMD with you at the epicenter. Though you probably COULD do that. Regardless, it's an amazing weapon that shoots hot not-even-a-gas-yet at things.

Anyway! Conceptual! This plasma is astoundingly pure in nature, since nothing that has had a chance to change or dilute it has yet had a chance to exist. So you could take the concept of purity to cleanse corruption or impurity that way. Further, this is also, conceptually, the initial act of creation, the Roar Of God, as it were. So you can link that concept to thec reation of things like a new, healthy body and soul and spirit where tainted parts had to be purified out.
>>

Give birth to Marshall, just like the Big Bang gave birth to everything! He'll uh, he'll be fine.
>>
No. 1076986 ID: dd3fe0

So, something to keep in mind about the time right after the Big Bang is that the heat of it is way, way, wayyyyyy hotter than fire. So you know the main states of matter, in increasing level of heat? Solid, Liquid, Gas? And how there's one beyond that, Plasma. So Fire is generally hot gas, maybe with some plasma at the hottest parts, for the hottest fires. But there's a state BEYOND plasma, a FIFTH state of matter. It's called 'Quark-Gluon Plasma', and it's where not only are there no molecules (too hot!), not only do atoms get stripped of their electrons (too hot!), not only do the nuclei of atoms get split apart (too hot!), but the actual neutrons and protons (and their antimatter equivalents, antineutrons and antiprotons)... just melt. Leaving raw quarks and gluons and things of that scale. THIS is what is present in the first 0.000001 second of the Big Bang!

The necromancer talk certainly disturbs me, yet even worse is that... these people, this city, the country of Seftacra, they...
I think I'm going to be sick. My sight gets blurry with tears.
Grief.
You wouldn't understand, any of you, but...
Dragons *cannot* be harmed. It's fundamental in almost every culture, fundamental maybe even in the functions of this entire world, that dragons are one of the few species considered sacred and untouchable by ANY mortal affairs! After all the secrets they shared with us, after all the infrastructure they helped to build, after all the technological advancements they told us we could and helped us make, purely out of their own kindness, and this is how Seftacra and Aicet repaid them!?

Get back up. Damn you Arthur, focus!
And focus I do.

These necromancers also seem to be a problem. Anything occult is serious. Things like this can tear down any economy, no matter how strong it is. There's one job opportunity at least, and that would be helping the Aicet military in defending the city.
Back to the task at hand.

>>1072497
The... JOB BOARD is a physical object, something we'll have to find out here in the streets.
I say that we make things simple now. We find this JOB BOARD, gloss over the opportunities, and locate the Grander Brothers establishment. Then, the long day will be over at last.

>Dragons are sacred
I will not deny their part in building and maintaining your civilization, but has it ever occurred to you that idols who, supposedly out of good will, enforce the foundations of society may very well have their own selfish agenda? Just as they lifted you up, they could be holding you back, and you'd never know. Their untouchability means if any of them were corrupted by something, some twisted force beyond mortal comprehension or just decay from old age, they could make random citizens disappear and face no consequences.

As for the willingness to destroy society over paranoia, mortals are a stupid kind of people. Stupid powerful as well.

Necro's more important. It seems killing them is playing into their hands somehow. We need to scout out their operations, see if they're resurrecting after death.

Huh. I haven't pondered it much before, but it could be true. It *is* true. Oh, but whatever could we do against the politicians, the aristocrats, the elites? Nothing.
You feel a special kind of despair when you know that a battle can't be won in a satisfying way.
Dragons, out of their own kindness, fed societies the secrets they learned. They taught things that would have taken centuries or millennia to find out.
Some believe they can talk to whatever's beyond life. To the gods of whatever religion is true. To the embodied energy that made the universe.
Fundamentally, we're not allowed to know too much about the scaly beauties. They've told us everything they wanted to, everything they could. The rest of the information we want from them, the fabric of reality always seems to stop us from finding.

The necromancers, that's a new kind of thing to me. I've never heard of cults being so large that they can have an entire city quietly under siege. I'll keep a lookout, like everyone else.

At long last, the precious JOB BOARD is found. There's a bunch of job applications, news articles, and other miscellanea pinned to it.

It's true we cannot evacuate the whole capital planet on board the titans, even big as they are, they are military ships not passenger cruise ships with billions of cabins. Although many would fit in to the corridors we would have no way to organize two things at the same time. A refugee ship and a military operation.

>>1075396
I have found out that the best tactic would be build many, maybe a dozen titan class ships and cluster them together firing every direction with size down from biggest capital ship weapons mounted on rotating turrets to the smaller, but still large point defence turrets and having fleets of heavy corvettes cling close to the hull of the titans, not leaving farther than 300 kilometers in case they are starting to nuke, so they can dodge under the powerful shields of the titans, but still defend against smaller shadow ships intending to avoid the big guns, which tear down every bigger ship that comes too close.

What went wrong in the earlier fleet composition was the main focus was on battleships and cruisers, while the smallest ships were quite undefined in fleet numbers and the titans were not emphasized. This is exactly what the enemy exploited.
