It is now up to you folks to pick the primary nation on this major voyage across the chasm of space.
The purpose of this quest is to aid the growth of a civilization from its start until it reaches it either reaches its secret end-game point or fails beyond the point of saving. You fine folks will be acting as The Oligarchy and decisions that you make will be made democratically with input from advisers and bits of raw data.
For now, however, your task it to pick a primary nation. These are the majority of the people on your planet, 75% of the total 100,000 population. There's also a major minority and a minor minority, but those details will be discussed later.
United States - The United States was a superpower that had sense became a great power in a multi-polar world, long before the advent of the Relocation Project in 2077. It still garnered respect on the world stage and at the time had the most technologically advance military in the world.
(+) Military Might - The United States starts off with better security and defense equipment than the other nations.
(+) Multiculturalistic - Societies are less likely to fracture along cultural/ethnic and religious lines.
(+/-) A Gun Behind Every Blade of Grass - The second amendment means that every working and non-working citizen is, by default, consider Militiamen and will not be required to become armed incase of an invasion. The downside is that Americans require larger, dedicated police force to protect its citizens from crime.
(-) Quagmires. Quagmires Everywhere. - Americans may have difficulty retaining a military presence in jungles and mountainous regions against opposing forces.
(-) Hollywoodland - American societies require an addtional 1k of artistic-types out of 100K to help elevate moods due to its media dominace in the 20th and 21st centuries.
(-) Moojuice - Successful dairy lobbyists of the 20th and 21st centuries have forever changed the American diet, making diary a required food instead of non-essential. Failure to meet this requirement lowers mood.
(*) Nuclear - The United States of America has a substanial nuclear arsenal.
Brazil - One of the four "BRIC" countries as described by Goldman Sachs in the 00's, the Federative Repubic of Brazil grew to become a major player on the world stage by 2077. Its vast natural resource and slow but consistant dedication has made it abundantly clear to the rest of the world that Brazil is an economic force to be recond with.
(+) Resource Champion - Brazilian scientists will identify usable, alien natural resources easier than others, getting a bonus to scientists that are surveying their new home. Bonus to observation and theorizing phases of research and development.
(+) Multicultrualistic - Societies under Brazilians are less likely to fracture along cultural/ethnic lines.
(-) Defense Budget Cuts - With no regional rivals to contend with in the 21st century and military presents that has yet to be developed on the world stage, the security and defense forces of Brazil start out with a lower tech level.
(+/-) Oh, and the Pope's coming with us - An agreement between the Brazil and the Vatican was reached, allowing them to tag along in Brazil's ISRV and thus act as its minor minority. Vaticanos create new sub-category under population: Clerics, which have a similar effect to artists, albeit to a lesser degree. Sadly, the Vatican can cause a noticable drain on resources and the budget for a sizable duration, until they can establish themselves in Phase II. There's also smaller, hidden bonuses and faults with the Holy See.
(*) The Federative Republic of Brazil doesn't have a nuclear arsenal.
United Kingdom - The United Kingdom has remained a great power since the 18th century and continues to function in that capacity. While just a simple island, its historical ties with Austrialia, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand allow them the capacity to build their own ISRV at the simple expense of allowing citizens of those countries to join in the flight.
(+) Stiff Upper Lip - Britains are less likely to rebel in certain situations, included but not limited to mismanaged pandemics and natural disasters.
(+/-) What? They Count! - Because if its stragetic partnership with its former dominions, the United Kingdom allowed citizens of Canada, Austrailia, New Zealand and South Africa act as the both the major and minor minorities in the United Nation's Piggyback Program. In return, these four nations cannot be selected by the other major national entites. CANZSA citizens grant neither negative hidden bonus nor positive hidden bonus. While the likelihood of the United Kingdom fracturing along political lines is nill, the United Kingdom may have to deal with ethnic minories (Scottish, Inuits, Miori, etc.) wanting to fracture way from the UK, though not to the same extent as China or Russia.
(+/-) King and Country - Britains gain a defensive bonus so long as there's a regant acting as a figure head. However, royalty acts as a minor drain on the economy, which lowers income and in some situations, the people's overall mood.
(-) This is BBC4 - British societies require an addtional 1k of artistic-types out of 100K to help elevate moods due to its media dominace in the 20th and 21st centuries.
(*) Nuclear - The United Kingdoms of Great Britian and Northern Ireland have a moderate nuclear arsenal.
France - Despite its number of hardships endured through out its history, the French Republic has always managed to bounce back and mantain its status as a substantial force on the political stage.
(+/-) Almost Absolutely Normal - The French are a well rounded sort of people. They have no bonuses granted (expect one minor one) to its societial development. They also have no negatives either (expect one minor one).
(+) Great Works of Art - French artists are more likely to develop a cultural wonder, which temporarily increases the nations, but not to the same extent as Russia.
(*) Nuclear - The French Repubic has a moderate nuclear arsenal.
Germany - The "Bad Boy" of central Europe for most of the 20th century in some from or fashion, up until the totaliarian GDR reunified with West Germany in the 1990s. Despite all odds, Federal Repubic of Germany has managed to rehabilitate and bounce back, becoming a substantial force for good on the global stage.
(+) Mad Scientist Stereotype - Germans have always had a profound effect on the development of science for many centuries. German scientists gain a bonus when theorizing and experimenting during research and development.
(+) Barbarossa's Back! - Germans gain a minor bonus when attacking others in their home turf. This effect doubles if they're the ones who make the first declaration of war.
(-) Not this scheiße again! - Germans have minor difficulty defending their homeland when attacked. The difficulty increases substantially if they're the ones who make the first declaration of war.
(-?) Nazis? Nien Danke. - Learning from the mistakes of a sorted past, Germans are more likely to rebel if a totalitarian government is established in Phase II and beyond.
(*) The Federal Repubic of Germany doesn't have a nuclear arsenal.
Russia - The "Bad Boy" of eastern Europe well into the 21st century, The Russian Federation has mantained a powerful visage on the world stage. Despite the fall of the Soviet Union in the 1990s and the hardships endured after, Russia bounced back, eventually becoming one of the four BRIC countries that may have once again developed into a superpower.
(+) Military Men - Russians start out with more security and miltary personalell. Citizens are also easier to recruit to the miltary than other nations.
(+) Mother Nature & Mother Russia's Lesbian Relationship - Natural occurances seem to favor Russians when defending their nation.
(-) Nothing but Nyet - Russian societies are more likely to rebel in certain situations, included but not limited to mismanaged pandemics and natural disasters. They also have difficulty keeping themselves from fracturing along cultural/ethnic lines.
(-) Vodka Drunkinsky - Booze is now considered a required "food" instead of non-essentual. The lack of booze lowers the mood of Russians societies greater than in other societies.
(*) The Russian Federation has a substantial nuclear arsenal.
India - The Republic of India is an emerging economic power in the 21st century; the 'I' in BRIC that may develop into the world's next superpower.
(+) The Epic Turban of Resolve - Indians can adjust to any territory easily without the mood being lowered.
(+/-) Brain Drain - Even with its growing influence and power, India still suffers a minor brain drain as other nations pulled away some of its bright scientists. On the upside, there's a larger number of Workers and Technicians, allowing general labor and construction to be completed at a faster pase.
(-) Pakistan's Long Shadow - Societies are more likely to fracture along religious lines.
(*) The Republic of India has a small nuclear arsenal.
China - The People's Repubic of China is great power on the world stage, on par with the United States in terms of military might, economic influence and research capacity while retaining its totalitarian, one-party grip on its people. The "C" in BRIC has certainly maintained its presence on the world stage, though some analyists predict that its only a matter of time before ethnic tensions inside its nation come to a head.
(+) Military Men - The Chinese start out with more security and miltary personalell in Phase I. Citizens are also easier to recruit to the miltary than other nations.
(+/-) Hasty - Work on projects can be completed quicker if you issue the order. Completion of general labor and technical projects are faster than in other nations, though quality is halved.
(-) You can Tibet on it! - The likelihood of society fracturing on cultural/ethnic lines is higher in the PRC and will require careful management.
(*) The People's Republic of China has a moderate nuclear arsenal.
Japan - The State of Japan has always been at the forefront of economics and innovation well into the 21st century and through its prowess has been a major power on the world stage.
(+) Cool Doodads - Japanese scientists gain a bonus to the experimenting and application phase of research and development.
(+) Happy Loveship Express Alpha - The Japanese gain a fishing bonus.
(+/-) No War? - Japan's consitution expressly forbids it from having its own army, which has always been a source of controversy between politic forces within Japan itself. Instead, Japan operates a Defense Force, which is meant to guard to the Japanese homeland from potential invaders. The Japanese gain a bonus when defending their homeland, though attempting to establish a more aggressive army will be more difficult political and may effect the mood, depending on circumstance. If the more aggressive army is established, the defense bonus is negated from then on.
(-) Monoculturalistic - Japan is predominately Japanese and may have problems with the major and minor minorities.
(*) The State of Japan doesn't have a nuclear arsenal.
