A decidedly un-optimized party of adventurers review the events of the recent past.

Astronomer and eccentric Simon Betelgeuse is on an epic quest to save the world from immanent destruction at the hands of the vengeful star-god Volans. He is accompanied by Samuel Slater, his best friend and loyal butler; Io Adhara, his boss and usually rational foil; and Karsci Vadász, some random trooper they picked up on accident.

Ever since the beginning of the adventure, Simon and his friends have been hunted by the mysterious Cobble secret police force called the Dokdokdokdokdok for reasons unknown.

The big plan is to finish the rocket at the Weaponsmith’s Guild, located 2 days flight away in the Bumbling Rocks. They must still acquire a skilled technician to repair the fuel line and a ‘vacuum igniter’ to complete the rocket. They have a vague lead that the Cobble capital of Weeya-bhu may have the skilled technician they need, and know they can pick up the ‘vacuum igniter’ from the city of Kojo for 2000 dollars.

With their airship undergoing repairs for two days and the collective wallet going low on cash, the heroes have decided to do some freelance detective work for a mining corporation. They are tasked with investigating an MIA corporate agent and a suspected sabotage on a mine on the island of Ijin-Shima.
Before they head off on their next little caper, our heroes decided to buy supplies. On top of the list is food: Io, Simon and Karsci all need food ($5 per daily ration per person, up to a max of 4 per person)
The list of stores include:
Grocery store
Electronics store
Hardware store
Clothing store
Hobby store

Oh boy oh boy this quest is back yay!

Alright, buy everyone enough food for the next 7 days. That should leave us with 21 monies left, and then we should immediately head off to get to Ijin-Shima asap. We have barely over 2 weeks left to save the world, let's go.

They purchase enough food so that each person has enough for 7 days. Since their max carry capacity is 4 day-rations, the rest is stored in the airship. They have 126 dollars remaining.

They then head back to their employer to acquire transit to Ijin-Shima.

Corporate Employer: "Here's the airship tickets. They're just 'economy' class, but don't worry; you'll still get there in one piece."

It is now 14 days before The End.

They can either start investigating at their employer's sabotaged mine, or walk for a day to get to the rival corporation's mine.

The party dusts themselves off and heads to the sabotaged mine. The security guard at the front gate greets them.

Guard: "Oh, you guys must be the freelances the big boss hired."
Simon: "We sure are! Genuine detectives, that's us."
Io: "So... what exactly happened here?"
Guard: "All sorts of things. The workers kept complaining about the heavy machinery failing all the time. You should ask them for the specifics. Main entrance to the processing building is right there behind me, and the mineshaft is in that little shed next to it."

Simon and Slater stumble around the building until they find some heavy looking machinery. There's a kid sitting on a big enginey thing.

Kid: "Hey mister, what'cha doing?"
Simon: "Looking for some clues as to what happened with the equipment here. Seen anything suspicious kid?"
Kid: "Nah. The equipment that broke is underneath that hatch there, but you can't go in."
Simon: "Why not?"
Kid: "Fulla nasty gasses and stuff. You need some kinda special suit to stay alive down there."

Io: "We're freelance investigators hired by your employers to find out what happened here. If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you all a few questions."

Simon: Ask kid where we might find such a suit. Hopefully the bosses have one and can lend one to us and we don't have to spend more money.

Slater: Do you need to breath? If not, you might be able to explore down there. If so, yeah let's find Simon a suit.

Io: "Hmm. How about the breakdowns, can you give me specifics."
Standing Guy: "Power failing, worn out parts, pipes leaking. Standard stuff, or it would be if they didn't happen over and over again in a short period of time. Right now there's a conveyor belt that got stalled for some reason, but we can't check on it since it's in a place full of toxic gas and our only hazmat suit is ripped."

Simon: "I see. My bet is on ninjas."
Io: "Right. Where's Slater by the way, and why are you holding that thing?"
Simon: "I sent him down the hatch there to check out what went wrong. I was hoping to fix this hazmat suit so I could join him, but this thing looks like it's been mauled by a bear. A bear with scissors and a burning hatred for safety equipment. It's missing the boots and one glove, too."
Io: "Hmm. Karsci, maybe you could go down there with Slater. I mean, if you can stand the Sear-"

Slater borrows Io's duct tape and attempts to fix the leaky pipe. Unfortunately, the magic of duct tape fails to fix the problem, as gasses still leak through the small gaps.

Slater tosses the duct tape back up the hatch.
Slater: "I'm afraid duct tape won't work, Sir."
Simon: "It's alright Slater, we'll find a way."
Slater: "Indeed Sir. Can you help me out now?"
Io: "Whoever sabotaged this place must have been really good. Nobody was seen entering or leaving the building and all the malfunctions looked like accidents."
Karsci: "That probably means one of the employees here is responsible."
Simon: "Hmm. Hey kid, you a ninja spy?"
Kid: "No."
Simon: "Damn, this detective stuff is hard. Is there any other way we could get some money?"

>>
No. 267164 ID: f5e4b4

Wait a moment. Slater, you have a wrench. Can't you use it to fix the leaky pipe?

Alternatively, use Simon's blowtorch to seal it. But ask first if the toxic gas is also volatile.

267292

After verifying that the toxic gasses are nonflammable, Simon tosses the blowtorch down Slater so he can attempt to fix the leak.

The blowtorch works well, but Slater's reach is a little short and half the pipe remains unwelded.

Meanwhile, Simon tries to patch up the ripped hazmat suit with duct tape. It looks fairly airtight, but Simon isn't entirely sure. The missing boots and glove remain problems as well.
>>
No. 267294 ID: b7798b

We need to get down there so we can fix the clog in vent 4, which is presumably affixed at some point to the pipe we are welding. But toxic gasses are said to be bad. Maybe we can turn it off and then fix the clog. Is there an area Slater can access that we haven't explored?
>>
No. 267308 ID: 1e9d01

If the only problem with the boots and glove is that toxic air would come in, then just apply duct tape to seal it against your own clothing/body.
>>
No. 267325 ID: f5e4b4

>>267308

Yeah, this. Even if you can't use that hand because it's sealed with tape, we only need to get down there to fix the pipe.
>>
No. 267446 ID: 252e1b

That's a blow torch and not a welder right? If it is, then you're probably going to need both hands. You may need a spool of solder to finish the repair, there may not be enough on the pipe joint for the pipe to seal properly. If you do need more solder, you'll need both hands to apply it and run the torch. Ideally you'd be making the repair with an iron that you heat with the torch, but a quick and dirty repair with just the torch is possible.

Is the gas outright poisonous or is it just dangerous because it displaces oxygen? If it is poison, does it only work through inhalation or is it capable of getting through skin, mucus membranes, or open wounds?

Simon seals himself in the suit by duct-taping the sleeves to his body. It appears to work, but he still should be careful not to break the makeshift seals on the suit.

Simon and Slater check out the area to the left of the ladder, and just find a pile of crates and a crane hook on the ceiling. There is a control panel on the wall, probably to control the crane.
>>

Hmmm, open the crates to see what's inside.

Oh, and Simon should finish fixing pipe 4 while we're here.

The crates seemed to be filled with machine parts for the most part. They don't look particularly useful and are all really heavy, so they don't take any.

The crane doesn't extend over to the pipes, but the cables on the crane appear to be very long.

The party regroups topside and the requests the mine manager get all the employees together. The party and the entire staff meet in one empty storage room a few minutes later.

Simon: "Are these really all the workers here? I thought a place this big would have a lot more staff."
Manager: "They are all the ones on site right now. Most the actual miners have returned home until we get everything fixed. Why, did you find the person responsible?"

Manager: "We guessed as much, but do you know who it is?"

Hrm... I'm kind of stumped, we've found practically no clues, and the only one we've found seems to be a dead end.

We could try a different approach and look for the motive behind the sabotage.

Make sure none of the other workers can hear you, then ask the manager if any of the employees have been acting different lately. If any of them has been wronged by the company, or has been malcontent lately. Or if any of them suddenly seems to be richer recently. Maybe they're getting bribed by a different company.

Simon alerts all the staff members of the child saboteur. The manager said that he and his staff will guard the mining complex's borders to make sure he doesn't escape, while Simon and his companions search the insides of the building.

They start in the room where the first met the kid.

Simon: "Well, he doesn't seem to be in this room at least."

grab the latch on the pipe and unlatch it but hold it closed. yell up to the kid that if he doesn't drop the crossbow and go up the ladder you will open it and let out the gas again. and that you already unlatched it so the only thing keeping it closed is you, so if he shoots you then it will open by itself due to pressure.

Get on the ladder. That should hide you from harm (hard to tell from this angle) and give you enough reach to start banging ominously on the pipe. Tell him to throw away his weapon or you'll flood the place with gas. If he approaches Simon, that should give the guys above an angle to shoot him.

Simon borrows the foreman's phone and reports his success to the corporate employer. They are sent an airship pickup and make it back to Tamaishi the next day, 13 days before The End.

Their airship should be fully repaired sometime today. They could wait 5 days for the VACUUM IGNITER to be delivered to the Tamaishi hardward store, or go to the city of Kojo on the island and pick it up there, a two day journey if they decide to walk it.

(Put in the window and the stairs)

Simon drops the kid-in-a-bag on the ground and dives for the dead Dokdokdokdokdok agent's crossbow. The bowstring appears to be electrically reloaded like an auto arbalest, but it doesn't have a magazine. There are 8 normal bolts in the dead agent's quiver.

Io begins reloading her manual crossbow. It's taking her a little while though.
Io: "Grr stupid clumsy outdated garbage."

The agent next to the window begins to boot it down when he sees Simon jump out into the open. The glass seems tough, but still the window probably wont last much longer.

The agent in the wagon draws a darter and peeks her head above the sides. The glass sliding door in the front of the building is still closed.

Slater and Karsci just stand around, still in a bit of shock.

The kid lets out a string of sailorlike curses and squirms in his sack.

The faint sound of boot stomps can be heard coming from the stairwell.

From outside the building a few screams can be heard; civilians running from the battle scene.

Slater can shoot the window at the front a few times to weaken the glass. Then Simon can shoot through the weakened glass when the guy peeks his head out again (if he even ducks).

Karski, help us out man. Use that baton against the guy kicking the window, once he gets to the corner.

Slater fires a dart at the glass panels of the sliding door, though it doesn't seem to do a whole lot; the cranequin darter is fairly weak. He speedily turns the crank on the darter, preparing it for another shot.

The agent in the wagon ducks behind cover, despite her not being in much danger. It looks like this particular agent doesn't have a lot of nerve.

Io has finally finished reloading her weapon.

Karsci decides to move out a bit, and readies his plasma baton to hit the agent when he pulls around the corner.

The agent, however, doesn't seem to be charging in as expected. He finishes smashing down the glass, and aims his crossbow at Simon's hindquarters.

Simon heeds the disturbing metaphor and gracefully flops over a few times, in time to dodge the bolt loosed by the agent by the shattered window.

The agent's crossbow automatically redraws, but before he can load another bolt Slate whips around the corner and fires his darter, hitting him in the shoulder. Slater does not have enough time this round to rewind the darter.

While the agent is still reeling, Karsci charges around the corner and assails him with his plasma baton. The agent reflexively guards the strike with his crossbow, but grunts in pain from his wound.

Io fires her bolt at the front glass door of the building. A hole in the glass is formed as the bolt flies through it and slams into the side of the police wagon. She freaks out a bit and remains behind cover. The party can't really see what she's doing back there.

Io thinks she can hear the stomping of boots coming from the stairwell.

The stomping from the stairwell gets louder.

Slater hurriedly rewinds his darter while Karsci continues the barrage of blows on the agent he is fighting. The agent deftly parries all Karsci's attacks, fighting through the pain of his wound. Slater can't fire into the melee without the risk of shooting Karsci.

Io kicks the sackful of kid out of the elevator, and then moves toward the front door. The kid flails around in his bag even more.
Kid: "Cut that shit out! What the fuck are you guys doing out there?!"

Io: "Simon! We have to get out of here now!"
Simon: "The wagon!"
The pair run to the wagon, but stop dead in their tracks as they see a lobbed grenade fly through the hole in the wall towards them.

Slater: "Karsci, duck!"
Karsci complies, moving down and to the side, allowing Slater to make a shot at the agent. The agent drops his weapon and clutches his chest in pain.

It is 13 days before The End, and approximately a bleventy-zillion (give or take) days since this adventure was last updated.

A brief recap of the adventure so far:
Simon Betelgeuse, an eccentric astronomer and exceptional nitwit, discovered that the star-god Volans was making a return trip to the world of Caelum to wreak his terrible vengeance. He set off with his trusty Clockwork butler and friend Samuel Slater to stop this and, more importantly, rub his discovery in the faces of his naysaying colleagues. Along the way his group expanded with the addition of his boss, Director Io Adhara and some random guard they picked up in some random dirt town, Kascsi Vadasz. Together they’ve outmaneuvered secret police, explored several abandoned underground facilities, fought vicious pirates and avoided wondering why none of them carry a cellphone..

Time is running short, and the fate of their planet rests on their shoulders. Smart money is on the angry god made of fusion and hate.

Their current goal is to construct assemble a large rocket that will be able to destroy Volans before he ruins this lovely summer break for everyone forever. All that remains for them is to find a person who can fix a rocket fuel line, and they believe they can find one in the city of Weeya-Bhu. What they need to do right now is get rid of the Dokdokdokdokdok secret policeman currently inside their stolen stolen airship (so it doesn’t become a stolen stolen stolen airship).

Currently, it appears there is nobody in the main storage room. There is a door to the cockpit, the crew quarters and a stairway down to the brig.

Ok, here's the plan:

1. First, Io. Can you remember where you packed the Vaccum ore on the ship? In any case, reload your Arbalest and keep your machete on hand. Stand at the entrance of the airship in case someone tries to come on board.

2. Karsci. Using your guardly military strength, stick the blade of one of Simon's pirate daggers in-between the wood boards of the lid on the smaller crate, since it
is too small to hide a Dokdokdokdokdok Agent (just do it as quietly as possible.) If
that doesn't work, duct tape one of the pirate daggers by the blade to the smaller
crate's lid. If this works, viola! Makeshift shield. Give the new WOODEN DAGGER-SHEILD
to Simon.

3. Simon, move the smaller crate out of the way, to a place inside where no one can
trip over it. Now, stand to the right of the Large crate and use the WOODEN DAGGER-SHEILD
(point it towards the larger crate to block any possible attack.) With your other hand,
point your Arbalest towards the cockpit doors, prepared to fire at either.

4. Slater, re-crank your weapon. Position yourself behind Simon, facing the two doors.
Be prepared to fire at either if they open.

5. Karsci, you're wearing armor. I want you to prepare your Plasma Baton and be the one
to open the large crate from the side furthest from the cockpit doors. If it is empty,
check the contents, and create another LARGE WOODEN-DAGGER SHIELD in a similar fashion
to the first. If there is someone inside, make sure the person inside is a
Dokdokdokdokdok agent before you riddle 'em with bullets.

The party's crossbows are already loaded and ready. Io stands by the entrance and scans the town below.
Io: "I can hear sirens in the distance, though I think we're in the clear for now. Still, let's not waste any time."

The party scours the room, finding everything is pretty much where they left it. Nobody is hiding here, and the gear they left in the airship is still in the big crate where they left it.

Simon: "Okay, coast is clear. Let's barge into the cockpit now!"
Karsci: "Wait, hold on."

Karsci takes the Dok^5 agent's dagger and sticks it through the lid of the smaller crate, creating an improvised INPENETRABLE DEFENSE SHIELD

Karsci: "There we go, instant shield! Here you go Simon, this might stop a darter round from entering your face. Maybe. It might just give you splinters."
Simon: "Ehh, I've worked with worse odds."
Slater: "That looks a little unwieldy Sir."
Karsci: "It's just a temporary solution to our 'How to avoid getting shot dead' problem."

Karsci uses one of the pirate daggers Simon was carrying to do the same to the large crates lid to create an even more cumbersome INPENETRABLE DEFENSE SHIELD Mk. II, which he will use.

Then evacuate everyone except Slater, who doesn't breathe. Get the others working on finding another way out of here and/or repelling other Dok agents. Send Slater into the cockpit with the second IMPENETRABLE SHIELD, explosive dart gun, and Karcsi's dagger. We're goin' in for the kill.

Everyone quickly falls silent as smoke pours from the open corridor. Simon then gingerly kicks a crate in front of the door. It falls over with a thump, and is almost immediately detonated by an explosive bolt. Simon staggers backwards but is mostly unhurt. Barely a second after the explosion he hears the clicking of a crossbow reloading coming from the cockpit.

Forget the shield. Shoot back while he's reloading! Aim for the floor, to disperse the smoke. Then literally anyone else can shoot the guy with whatever weapon is loaded.

Sounds like he's got more ammo than we thought. Simon, can you wrap a book in your robe and toss it behind the box as another move of trickery? He won't fall for box - box, but he might fall for box - loose clothing.

Wait, I've got an idea. We have a can of oil, correct? And a blowtorch? This aircraft is full of explosive gas.

Maybe there's a way we can eliminate all several of our problems at once here. LITE IT UP 'N DON'T LOOK BACK

Let's just hijack one of the vehicles the Dok used to get here!

Slater: "I hear more darts being loaded Sir."
Simon: "Crud. Okay guys, this is too risky. Let's cut our losses and burn the airship down."
Slater: "Sir, I don't think that's a very wise course of-

Io: "Oh for the love of- JUST SHOOT HIM"

Slater jolts and fires the explosive bolt through the corridor, hoping to maybe hit the guy or at least dissipate the smoke. The smoke moves a little from the shockwave, but it remains hard to see.

Io: "Did you get the bastard?"
Slater: "I don't know, I still can't see Ma'am."

Not likely that we hit him. Back off from the doorway and wait with bated breath for a beat, then kick another box in front of the door. He's bound to fall for it again after the wits-shattering explosion.

say something to Io along the lines of 'we have no time! everyone off the ship!'
but very quietly tell the others to follow your lead and do what you do

open the entrance door, and then everyone tramp your feet in place (loud at first, then quieter) as if you all left the airship, then have everyone quietly hide in the the big grey doors room and see if the soldier is drawn out by your 'leaving'. when he turns the corner EVERYONE SHOOT THE BASTARD

Simon whispers quietly to his comrades
Simon: "psst, okay guys lets pretend to leave and nab him when he checks"
Io: "simon do you think he'll fall for-"
Simon: "WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE NOW, RETREAT EVERYONE"
Simon stomps his feet to make it sound like he's leaving. Karsci does the same, and Slater... doesn't have feet.

Io aims her crossbow at the door. Nothing happens for a while. Karcsi put his ear side of his head against the wall. He hears the faintest of footsteps.

Karsci nods his head to the rest of the party, and they all collectively hold their breath as they silently wait for the agent to appear.

As soon as the agent emerges from the smoke, Io fires. As the heavy bolt splinters armor and stony flesh, the agent recoils in pain and drops his katana. He staggers, but maintains control of his explosive darter.

Simon manages to reduce volume of his incoming fart to a low poot. He is rightfully proud.

Simon immediately leaps at the agent before he can level his crossbow and fire, with the injured Karsci not far behind to put his weight on the matter.

The falling agent reflexively fires, but the bolt only hits the ceiling and doesn't cause much harm aside from a few flying splinters.

Io tries to squeeze into the cockpit, but the tussling trio keep getting in her way. The agent seems to be pinned pretty well by the combined portliness of Karcsi and Simon. Despite this fact coupled with the painful injury he sustained, the agent still struggles.

The determined agent struggles aggressively, forcing Simon to act on instinct to try and subdue his foe as quickly as possible: He plants a big ol' smooch on the agent's visor.

Admittedly not the best idea Simon's had, but the still the sheer grossness of the smooch causes even the elite Dokdokdokdokdok operative to freeze in terror.

Io slams the outer door shut and utilizes the sudden pause in combat to slip into the cockpit. The controls took a good stabbing, and she's not sure if she can fly the ship safely.

Io: Surely there are some manual controls? Lacking that, open up the panels to see what wires got cut. Maybe we can repair it real quicklike.

Everyone else: disarm the dokdokdokdokdok and restrain him in some manner. Possibly by having Simon sit on him. Start interrogation by asking him why he wants the world to be destroyed so badly.

Simon and Karcsi manage to relieve the agent of his crossbow. Simon: "Alrighty guy. I'll cut you a deal, tell us why do you guys want to let the world get blown up so badly and I'll tell you why I tried to make out with you."
Karcsi: "You better answer him, I want to know why the hell he did that too."
Unfortunately the agent remains silent, though he seems to have given up on struggling. He's still bleeding pretty bad.

Io and Slater examine the control panel. It looks like the agent mostly cut around the steering wheel. The cockpit's panel would have been difficult to remove, but fortunately Slater has his trusty wrench to assist. The pair uncover the internals of the control panel, revealing a bunch of severed wires and a smashed bit of electronics of uncertain use.

A Clockwork's instinctual knowledge is useful when making a wee brat Clockwork, but pretty dissimilar from pretty much everything else. It's not even sufficient for a real medical license.

Io considers just punching the throttle and flying the airship right off, despite the damage. It looks like the steering wheel is mostly undamaged anyways. Should she risk it?

First things first. Blue wire connects to blue wire, red wire connects to red wire, and black wire connects to black wire.

Look at the control panel. What buttons lie directly above that snapped circuitry?

I agree with this.

Actually, don't reconnect the wires until you know what they do. This might be a good time for Io to go out and get the mechanic to help. By force if necessary.
