"Hey, I AM the son of a high druidess."
"Hah!"

No, I didn' went shopping -- well, the evening was a rush. We tried to so something for... her.

Sun: "Anyway... answering your question, it was Lia. I used to think it was some sort of pun, but knowing her now, I am sure the main reason is because 'Sun' is shorter."

Sortof. They put some curestuff straight into her arm earlier, and that got her stable -- but that box thing's tube is grafted straight into her back. Lungs, spine, and Host knows where else. You cant just pump healing magic in these situations.

McLaughing said a healpot would kill her straight. Too much of those holy energies, I guess.

have you tried dark magic then? maybe actual poison?

anyway you may need to put weigth in the box. seriously. some kind of spiders carry their childen on their back in a web sack, if they lose it, they replace with stones so they may still move.

is the wound deadly or simply too much bleeding?

>Put stones in the box. Use poison or dark magic in place of cure stuff.

Neither of these are particularly good suggestions, considering our current meagre knowledge of things. Demon doesn't automatically mean "opposite of human" in terms of what'll recover her health...In fact, they already put some curestuff in her arm, and that appears to have done good.

We also have no idea what "dark magic" is here, if it even exists. The weight suggestion, wherever it came from, does not take into account that the metal box doesn't appear to be openable by normal means. Meaning it may have been created solely to be "filled" by whatever is drawn from her body. Curious. Maybe it's a recharging method for whatever trick they pulled to start up that wormhole.

Regardless, try to think some more when making future suggestions, 5Copper.

>Not a flashback.

Whoops. Hello Player. Sorry for being such inadvertant snoops...The shutoff thing just happens. Consider it a well-earned break from our haranguing. Shouldn't happen at a critical moment, so don't worry about it.

Acolyte Sun seems a decent sort, and I'd hate to intrude in the middle of a conversation, so focus your attention on him. But please, once you've wrapped up things with Sun, could you give us a neat summary on what's happened since we had to leave you alone?

Don't worry about that, me and Sun were just passing the time. Talking helps to forget all the singing outside, but its not like we can talk for a whole night straight.
Basically, when I arrived I brought her to the church. Sun tried to do something for her, Miss K tried to figure out that box, Manuel allowed me to bring her in... that's why she's in my bed.
Yea, we're sitting her. In case she wakes up or pukes blood. Or both.

>tube
It WAS clear. Now its all gunky inside, probably from the blood. Its full, but is hard to tell if whats inside is flowing right now. The tube's made of something weird, by the way.

>dark magic, poison
Oh sure! Do you know any practicioner of the black arts in a hundred mile radius? Thought so.
... we pondered using something else heal her, but nobody knows what would be the right kind of 'poison'. We're sure that whatever spreads her corruption would work, but that brings us back to the demon magic problem.

>put weight in the box
... for the record, no, it cant really be opened. The shell is like a solid bulk of iron. Miss K thinks breaking it apart would destroy it.

Hey Player; you remember that big, cylindrical, metallic thing that was just laying around on a ledge in pitch-blackness in the dungeon? The one you couldn't take with you 'cause your pockets were full, and since it was pitch-black up there, you figured it'd be there for easy snagging later?

Have you tried a blood transfusion? Or rather some blood ritual. Blood after all seems to be the important stuff for the summoning thing to work. So blood might be something that will restore her. Or it could open a portal to hell.

Probably safer to just wait and see. Just treat her the way you normally treat a patient suffering from blood loss. Do you happen to know of a soup called Black-soup? It's made out of blood so it should help her make up for some iron loss and it's a soup so it should speed up her recovery a bit.

>5Copper asks: what's in his inventory?

His pockets, you mean. If you'd paid attention along the way, you'd have seen that he has 11 silver and 5 credits (worth 1 silver each), a sword, a halberd (if he hasn't returned it), a cure potion, two (or three) torches and a half-melted metal fragment with some patterns on it, which I would suggest he show to Miss K and/or McLaughing. Patterns, patterns, patterns. They must be what enables the weird stuff to happen. Maybe it's "magic" from the Dark Age or older?

>Whole FORT was asleep.

I seriously wonder how they managed THAT. Still, good thing you were there then, Player. You've probably saved all of their lives from slavery and spider-munchery. Who is Lia, by the way?

>Tube was clear, unknown material.

The tube might be some kind of plastic then. Remember the discussion you had with miss K about rubber at our behest, and that it could be made out of oil? Same deal for plastics, basically. Y'need some hefty alchemical knowledge and tools to make it, though.

But let's talk about that corruption you mentioned.

Is the girl a human that's been corrupted somehow by the demons? Is this unheard of or...What? Keep in mind our limited knowledge of exactly how your world functions.

Also, here's a headsup. While I'm positive the wormhole privileges were removed earlier, that doesn't mean the demons on the other side won't be able to reestablish the connection somehow. They've done this wormhole trick more than once, if I'm to judge by how Stahlvern and the demon mage made egress in the exact same manner as Charlotte's mum.

Having the girl here in the village is probably a risk, and she will need to be guarded. However, given that the girl alone can't provide much blood, chances are they won't be able to send the spider or something similarly-sized again. Maybe just a few soldiers or mages through a smaller wormhole.

Figured as much. If nothing else, Charlotte's reaction to your bluff about a "nifty hex" on the guards made it pretty obvious.

Sun is looking pretty tired. Tell him to go and get some rest.

First thing in the morning, you need to buy a bag through whatever means necessary. (Bag space is the most valuable thing an adventurer can ever obtain. I think you know this now)

Proud of ya, player. Not many coulda lived through that sort of ordeal, nor would many offer help to a demon, whatever their condition. Maybe you are cut out for this hero-stuff.

Yessuh. I'll refresh the memory of my compatriots in a much milder manner, henceforth.

>Commies. Red, horned demons.

Er. Well, that sounds...Hmhehehe. That's an unfortunate word-colour association they've got going there from our point of view. Would their name be derived from the word "communities" or "communal", perhaps?

"Tallist"...Not sure about what that's supposed to be.

...Hang on a tick. If they can't breed, then how'd Charlotte get "born"? Maybe she was converted along with her mum. But...She seemed more of a chimeric combination of human and spider than just spider. Another mystery, I guess. Unless Sun can tell us more about how demons breed beyond keeping Tallists.

Anyway, stew will be good for you. Some fresh air as well, I guess.
>>
No. 115875 ID: 7857d9

Alright, so you said you'd gotten her stabilized. Commonly, stabilized is used to denote an improved condition (largly because a severe problem means the vitals are inherently unstable). However, considering the concern that she won't last the night, I'm going to assume you all did a thorough checkup and are using the term to denote "not immediately life-threatening."

The main problem here is that we have no idea whatsoever as to what will make her better or worse, and we don't know what this box attached to her is doing.

Now, as far as I recall, we've never attempted to communicate with someone sleeping, but you should totally try touching us to the girl.

>Commies, 'bouses and furies, oh my.

*snort*

Would that be 'bouses and furies or incu- or succubuses and furries.

Ahehehem, I'm sorry Player, just connecting a few dots that might not even be there.

Out of the three, the 'bouses are known as 'typical' demons to us voices here. Coming out of the night, seducin' and soul-stealing, gender-swappin', the whole package. We call 'em incubuses for the male ones, succubuses for the female, or just 'cubi for short. Never actually met one before, but the story of unholy tempsters is a hardy one in a lot of civilizations. That's human nature for you.

The furies *snrk* are known to us in different variations...Hang on, you've got your own animus-people here, haven't you? There was a catboy and a bunny girl...So, yeah, like those. Obviously these furies are of a different variety than what we're used to. Namely, demonic.

The commies...They appear very typically demonic, what with the red skin and horns and all, but they're mostly former humans, I guess, having worked their way into the demonic hierarchy from being a tallist.

Hunh. One possible interpretation is that the original demons are the 'bouses. ...I could go into details on how I think that works, but you probably wouldn't appreciate it. Your appetite has been ruined enough already, I daresay.

Ask Sun if he knows anything about a House Darkhope, or if Lia would know. And again, who IS Lia?

Anyway, once you've done that, go buy some stew for yourself and Sun...He appears to be a good guy, especially if he's staying to watch over that girl you brought in.

Don't worry about the money, you should have enough silver and credit left over to buy the bag tomorrow if you sell the trinket you found for more than a silver. Unless you need to spend more money on the room, which you might. Hmm. Well, hopefully Manuel won't throw anyone out until you've sold it.

Killing them would serve no really useful purpose. I mean sure it would be a bit fun and you could rearrange the corpses in cool poses and stuff but it wouldn't really gain you anything worthwhile.

Instead ask the innkeeper, cook or whatever if they have any black-soup. You should be able to make the demon lady swallow it. Even if she doesn't swallow automatically you can make her swallow stuff by massaging her throat.

Come now, live a little. Of course it ain't dystopian sci-fi space opera, but the place has a charming atmosphere. Singing is a good activity to keep a group of people entertained, especially children.

First things first, greet everyone nicely (and introduce yourself as necessary), then head over to Manuel and buy yourself that stew. Look around for Lia...Is she here?

Alternatively, ask Miss K if she has a moment, and if she does show her that metal fragment you found. Ask her if she has any idea what's the deal with patterns and how it's related to, er, "magic". The metal box has a pattern, this fragment has one, and the spider's harness had many, from what you said.

Oh, and a couple of things you might want to remember.

You've heard of Dream before. Tony claimed it was Uncle Dreamy who...Er, made "Nattie" pregnant. I thought it was just a reference to something else at the time, but it makes sense now.

Ah, right. You never did get their names, did you? The kitty-lad was Tony, we overheard as you left. Not sure about the others.

Johnny of the Orchard was a fruit salesman, apparently. His oranges are the juiciest, and it is soon cashew season.

Also, hopefully you've sufficiently proved to the kids you're adventurer-material now. You've certainly proved it to us.

Angry voices. That's a new.
If singing bothers you, I have very bad news about the foundations of our society.

"Good evening, everyone!"
Bunny: "Hello!"
Blue: "Hey', the traveller is still here!"
Strawhat: "Howday and hownight!"
Miss K: "Hi, Green!"
Mouse: "Have any magnificent treasures of untold power to awe us, stranger?"

I know what you'll ask and I know you know the answer.

>Treasures of untold magical powers.

Hah, you wish!

Honestly, I think your policy of not showing us to people is sensible enough, especially given how we've presented ourselves at times. Although I wonder how long you can keep us hidden.

Anyway, admit that you didn't find much treasure of that sort, just one heck of a strange adventure. Ah...By the way, you may want to keep your face straight for what comes next.

*ahem*

Oh Player went to dungeonville, to win his fame and fort-une~
He would be rich and richer still, he thought as he march'd fort-thru~
But once inside the dungeon-cells, much strangeness there he saw~
A snoring fort, a gate to hells, a torn and bloody maw~

Oh take care you adventurers, make sure you have your tools~
A pack is for all travellers, no blade is for all fools~
You never know just what you'll meet, or what you'll face a trip~
Or if you'll be returning sweet, or in a coffin's grip~

The Darkhope demons had ill will, a sacrifice they wrought~
To bring a threat to Byron-ville, 'twas slaves they surely sought~
The threat was huge and solid-set, eight eyes and claws she had~
Her shoulders bore a fury-get, she was a spider mad~

Oh take care you adventurers, make sure you have your tools~
A pack is for all travellers, no blade is for all fools~
You never know just what you'll meet, or what you'll face a trip~
Or if you'll be returning sweet, or in a coffin's grip~

Her fury-get wore glassy blues, and smiled like a garott'~
Cold fir' she lit to ward off grues, and called herself Charlott'~
And in their path this Player stood, he saw things going bad~
That ill would win and not so good, he ran to warn--But egad!~

Oh take care you adventurers, make sure you have your tools~
A pack is for all travellers, no blade is for all fools~
You never know just what you'll meet, or what you'll face a trip~
Or if you'll be returning sweet, or in a coffin's grip~

'twas Charlott' she had other plans, and webs began to fly~
One struck his arm, but yet he stands! And swung back with a cry~
A sword in hand, his jump so far, he sought her head all free~
But in the end his sword was bar'd, by guards he couldn't see~

Oh take care you adventurers, make sure you have your tools~
A pack is for all travellers, no blade is for all fools~
You never know just what you'll meet, or what you'll face a trip~
Or if you'll be returning sweet, or in a coffin's grip~

Charlott' she laughed and told him straight: that she was safe away~
Her form a specter like a wraith, home in her getaway~
But Player knew she lied to him, her dismay had been true~
And with a heave of true-grit vim, he wrested his sword through~

Oh take care you adventurers, make sure you have your tools~
A pack is for all travellers, no blade is for all fools~
You never know just what you'll meet, or what you'll face a trip~
Or if you'll be returning sweet, or in a coffin's grip~

The spider buckled and he stall'd, so Charlott' saw her chance~
She pushed him back so that he pall'd, and dropped to a mischance~
Yet as he dove his sword he threw, and blue-formed Charlott' fell~
Her shape blinked out, but--curse that shrew! He knew she lived in hell~

Why yes, that's a song about you. Liberties were taken, story details changed, etc., etc. Also, you have NO idea how hard it is to find a word to rhyme with Charlotte.

I say show us off, but play it off like a joke to impress the kiddies. Something like "Why, I have right here a magical orb of great power! OOOooh they wanted to hear a rather... risque song didn't they...

"~Mudy, Mudy, Mudy wake up

Such scandalous little children... I wonder where they heard it, okay granted that epic work is almost a mile long and only parts of it are quite so... unsuitable. A pity the rest of the codex remains undiscovered really.

I suppose it would also be rather inappropriate to do "Zapave in the Cave" for such an audience wouldn't it.

D'oh, right. Lia went with McLaughing.

Still on the bad side of Manuel, Player? I take it he didn't want to have a "tallist" or "demon" in under his roof, since you argued earlier. Mmm...Don't rile yourself up about it, anyway. He's got his reasons for disliking crawlers, as you heard, and probably more to dislike demons.

'nyway, do you want to eat here or up in the room? Going up straight-away would give Sun some free time, but on the other hand, you could sit down by Miss K and ask about the patterns and show her the metal hunk.

Describe the big metal thing you left behind, see if she perks up at that. If anyone knows what it is, it's probably her... and even if she doesn't, she'll probably be interested.

Miss K being interested means she'd be more willing to trade/sell stuff to you.
>>
No. 118077 ID: 3dbae2

It's more like we've experienced or come across tales that your people are familiar with in the form of songs or folklore. I'm wondering if there isn't some specific reason behind that. Hmm.

Well, what to tell to miss K? Whatever you recall from the patterns on the spider's harness might interest her. A description of the "magic" Charlotte used to project herself from one place to another would surely, too.

Hmm. Anything else...Well, there's always that lamp she maybe-promised you, but you were supposed to check up on that tomorrow, and asking about it tonight would simply seem impatient or ungrateful.

I'm also guessing, from the children's description, that she tends to stay up at night to work. Which could be why she was snoozing on the counter when you first met her.

One thing though, is it okay to talk about all of these things out in the open where anyone could overhear you?

Quoth the Raven, Nevermore, eh? Famous line from a famous poem, probably debased somewhat like everything else here, but it's good to hear ol' E.A. Poe's works still live.

>What's wrong with you all of a sudden.

Hard to explain, but suffice it to say some of us like to play, and I emphasize -play-, matchmakers, although our advice at it is often of dubious value at best.

Also, y'know, the pervert thing. So, like an untimely trainwreck, we tend to get distracted from the issues at hand at times. I'd just ignore those particular suggestions, if I were you...I'm all for having a friendly relation with Miss K, but not really with the intent to sex her up or whatever's on the mind of some of the others.

At any rate, nothing about the box, but you can show her the metal thing you found, and ask about the possible pattern connection (i.e. 'magical' things using or being decorated with patterns, a possible means of identification, or a critical part of the spell?).
>>
No. 118805 ID: 23bee4

Player, forgive me. However, Miss K said that you shared a bed, and that tends to imply sex. If this isn't true, please forgive this voice.

However show her the metal and, damn it, say "At midnight, in the month of June, I stand beneath the mystic moon.". It's also by E. A. Poe, but I'd like to know if Miss K knows that and if she does, she might be impressed by your intellegence.

Oh, we could probably ask a million things, but let's keep it short and relevant. Sun's waiting for relief, after all.

What did she mean she could 'read' the pattern on the metal bit? The patterns mean something, then?

Also, a thought strikes me. How much have you told the villagers of what happened? Does she already know of Charlotte's two places at once magic act and the big spider?

Miss K: "You know Green, just bring it to me and I'll see what it is, okay?"
"Ok. You'll see how it isn' some 'feminine aid'."

"Say, what did you mean by 'read' the pattern? On the metal bit?"
Miss K: "Oh you know -- identify its elements, like the traces, curves and dots, which are a result of how the metals melted together when alloyed. Good marbled metal is subtle about those elements, all the little details mixing into a blur from a distance. You know, just like with actual stone, like granite and, well. Marble."
Miss K: "Oh... for a moment I thought it could be a writing."
"Its not like you can say or determine what pattern you're gonna get. We're talking about liquid metal."

I prettymuch only told her, the church people, and Manuel what happened -- all of it. To the best of my ability, that is. I don't think anyone really understood what was the deal with Charlotte' blue theatrics, much less myself. Maybe because I couldn't really explain it. I'm not a mage, you know.

Like I said, keeping the information limited. I doubt peopel would be singing at Manuel's door if they knew who's upstairs.

Is this all?

Well, how do you know? The demons have some pretty advanced magics, right? Couldn't they be good smelters too, or use that magic to ensure they create things in a certain fashion? Or maybe the composition itself is a pattern that can be "read"...Eh, I'm reaching. Maybe I'm just reluctant to give up on the idea.

And good policy on the hush-hush towards other villagers, I suspect. Wouldn't be good to incite panic or mob situations.

At any rate, ask her if stuff like this is worth anything to anyone in the village. Your current funds won't allow you a bag if the stew-soup combo costs more than a silver. And there's buying a room for tomorrow too, which is three more bits.

And as pleasant as conversation with Miss K is, I'm not sure what else there is to discuss. Chit-chat as you want while finishing up your food, enjoy the singery, and relieve Sun as soon as you're fed up.
>>

Oh, and the teeth thing? Could potentially be because one of Miss K's ancestors was of mixed blood, or a former tallist or something. Or, heck, it could simply be something she was born with naturally. Granted, I consider the former far more likely.

Well, you're right on this count. Its been a thousand years since the Dark Ages, maybe not even Host knows how much the demons changed in the meantime.

Does Amanda refer to whoever's head we're in?

But in all honesty. We want to save the girl and we need a way to do that. She's not dead yet so you don't technically have to pick her up yet. Let's just postpone her death a bit and we will find some other stuff to give you in return.

Well, this is new.

Ahem. Hello mister kitty god. Since nobody else seems to be doing the introductions, I guess I'll have to step up. Where to start...We're a collective of disparate minds, mostly clueless about your world and its exact functions. Our present location seems to be in a cracked orb of some kind, from where we can observe our surroundings and contact the minds of those who said orb touches. A friendly adventurer picked us up earlier today, and we've been advicing him ever since. We do the advice gig a lot. Rather poorly sometimes, but hey, a job's a job.

So far he hasn't decided to toss us away yet, though. Good guy, surprisingly patient, all things considered. He's currently trying to save the girl you're fetching here from her untimely case of expiring.

Now, I know we are intruders and all, but is there nothing we can do to, well... help out so that she won't have to die?

And if not, can we be allowed to at least speak with you or her before you leave? Particularly you 'n your fellow kitty gods. Not to get too side-tracked, but I've been trying to figure this world out for a while now, and I'm starting to amass a pretty big set of questions...What's ADP, for example?

Considering what the girl might've been through, perhaps it would be kinder of us to just let them do their job? Death is tragic, but does not necessarily mean a BAD END. Ending up with the kitty gods sounds unenviably better than being a tallist for the rest of her life.

hello kitten, i hope you may forgive my loud mouthness and inability to shut up, but this situation just doesnt suficce. i hope you will understand. in time.

begin petting the cat

i hope you dont mind. i like kittens for i had a very friendly cat living with me for over 17 years. her departure will make what i am doing now even harder that what it should be.

you see, we are the orb of infinite psyche, and altho we are slow, we do know what to do. and we do right, even if it means gay sex or world domination.

there are very few reasons why we have a physical shape to begin with. that is quite unusual for us, but, you see, we do take what we can and do wonders with it. even if it feeds violence and destroys religions.

while still petting, sit down and place him on our lap. DONT LET HIM RUN.

you see we need a favor, and we can repay. can you tell us how to restore her body and soul to boot? i know her race may be a mess now, but that part is her choice and hers alone.

GRAB HIM

we need her alive above anything else, and until your lady friend and you help us on this matter this lame physical body of mine will choke you down until you help us.

you have a few seconds to scream. enjoy the air if you indeed breathe.

We all need to shut up and think for a bit.

Firstly, we need to stop being a bunch of chickenshits cowering in fear at every little teensy unknown. I'll give you a few hints: these guys aren't omnipotent. That much is clear simply from Inky's behaviour towards us. Secondly, bootlicking and "please" and "may I"s and "look cute and innocent" aren't going to work on the grey one, most likely, ALSO due to her behaviour towards us. If she's refusing to even consider allowing us conversation with the girl's soul when we ask, to such a point that she claims the other, more amenable goddess is considered to be "sabotaging her" when mentioning otherwise, it's PRETTY CLEAR who we actually need to talk to. That the cowering makes me vomit a little inside my mouth.

As for the other suggesting violence: 2 problems right off the bat. One, diplomacy hasn't exactly failed yet. Two, you have no idea if we can even interact with them, or if our manifestation's here are simply immaterial anthropomorphizations of the voices within the orb. Keyword-immaterial.

Now then, if we can finally put the stupid infighting to a halt:

Miss Inky. Miss Amanda. I'll be blunt. We want this girl alive. We understand that's not your job, probably not even your concern. We understand that you're no more obligated to do us a favor than a city guard is obligated to let a thief go free after asking "pretty please". So I guess the big question is:

Can we cut a deal?

We have a kind of understanding that there are rules... but sometimes, people break rules for the greater good.

If you give us time, we can
1: get the information from her which may determine everybody's lives
2: put her soul to rest by tying up the loose ends in her life

We honestly want to help... and occasionally do something stupid.

Give two years. We are likely to get this done in a couple months, but we would like... a buffer zone in case of insanity.

You're making an assumption on that time is indeed slowed down right now. Unfortunately, we don't know that for sure. Furthermore, you say we communicate instantly. This is not so, as in this world we've very notably not been able to communicate all that fast.

In several cases our current owner has been listening in to us, and left his conversation partner hanging for a while. In one case, while in the middle of a fight, he responded not now dammit to lengthy exposition.

Second of all, I think kitty goddess Amanda knows more about needing to wake someone up in order to speak to them than we do. It might have something to do with the girl being unconscious at the moment, or it could be something of a more spiritual nature.

That way you can help stop the demons without that much intereference. And the demons are already starting to do stuff they're not supposed to be able to. How do you know they won't ever become a threat to you?

"No hard feelings here, Inky. You should still tell Harm."

Listen up, everyone, and heed my (sometimes) sagacious advice, which is this: Chill. I know. Discord and Reason agreeing. What'll be next? Anons everywhere setting aside all their differences and living in perfect harmony in the Unified Setting?

...

Anyway. Ghostly forms aside, we're still just "voices" and there's no need to take any of this personally. We had what was basically a social challenge w/o any 'bearer' to pick the 'good' suggestions and ignore the 'bad'. We were handed some loose hints on how to talk with the kitty goddesses during the course of it and then we (including myself) ended up screwing our chances by repeating some of the same arguments ad nauseum, going on tangents, or even doing some light trolling for the oh-so-predictable lulz.

For anyone unsure, I'm fairly certain the lulz thing wasn't the main reason the kitty goddesses ain't helping us, it just served as a handy end point. It's because we played our hand poorly and disjointedly, and failed to convince 'em during some six+ updates' worth of time. It happens. If there's a next time, maybe we'll catch on sooner and do better, but for now we'd better cope. What's a quest without consequences, after all?

If you're wondering why the kitty goddesses didn't respond to you, it might be because you failed to use quotation marks (these = "") around your query (this was pointed out pretty early). And even if you did put 'em round, it might've been more'n Inky was willing to respond to. In my case, I got a) shut up or b) partially ignored by Inky when I wrote two-three paragraph responses. The price of verbosity, I suppose, but then, I deserved it. I had already noticed (and commented!) that short and sweet was the way to go, and simply forgot.

If you're still wondering why the kitty goddesses weren't so keen on going along with our idea of disrupting the natural order and getting themselves sidetracked for the sake of a "maybe" issue on behalf of some very uncivil, quarreling ghosty people, then A) they were cats, B) they were gods and C) they had some identifiable personality traits.

Hindsight is 20/20, but all these things actually give us a rough guideline to how to treat with them, and we were doing it both a bit right and decidedly wrong.

If you have questions or if you're terribly upset about this turn of events, you can always go to the quest discussion thread.

>>131360

As it appears we're about to be tossed out on our rear ends, the door slammed at our back, this is probably moot. But still:

I don't think we can talk with the tallist girl in this realm, for whatever reason. That's what the KGs have been hinting at anyway. They'd have to 'animate' her in the real one, and we don't know all the details of how that's done.

Admittedly, we may not be the most coherent of beings to talk to, but regardless, I KNOW the significance of this can't have escaped you. Thousands of mortals may be condemned to slavery, torture, and having their very lives potentially reduced to nothing but FUEL for a magic that shouldn't be available to these people yet. Its not just death we're looking at, here.

You can't tell me you truly just don't care. I don't want to believe the gods of this dimension just don't care about the very aspect of mortality they've been tasked to oversee, simply because it's not their job to be concerned with it."

Okay, Player, here's the skinny. You have a pair of dogs for your death gods, and they're killing the girl right now.
We had a chance to convince them otherwise, but they had some crazy fucking demanding protocol shit for us to even speak to them and that basically cut our chance in half.

So a few things.
One, what other gods do you know about and what do you know about them, so this fucking failure doesn't happen again?

Two, if you can think of anything - anything that would keep her alive longer, do it. She may be dying, but that doesn't mean we should just sit around and let those gods of yours have an easy time of it.

Three, you need to convince everyone to have as many kids as possible. Not even joking. The tallists are using a type of magic they're not supposed to have, and a war might be brewing.

Another reference. We really need to try and find out exactly how those fit into this world: histories, echoes, or what have you. If we can work out how they relate to the world then by extension we get a better feel for where we stand. Maybe get some clues as to what all the code stuff is along the way, so we can give a more useful headsup to Player.

We should also ask for more stuff on the kitty goddesses. We know of three now, perhaps we can engage with some of the others by interacting with people currently under their 'domain' like how this girl is dying. If we actually manage to be polite for once, we might be able to fill in gaps left after asking the mortal crowd.

We met some of those Kitty goddesses you mentioned. Some of us were screaming dickholes, one of them was pretty standoffish, end result wasn't exactly ideal.

They seemed confused that the demons could pull off that whole teleporting thing, and one of them quoted that song, the bit about the flock that couldn't work together, at us.

Well your deities are douchebags. So we intend to set you up in their place.

But before that we need to come up with a fast as fucking hell plan to save the girl. Inky is planning to let her die any moment now, and that little fuck can't be allowed to have things go as planned. So you're going to have to spill some blood because now it's come to desperation tactics with strange rituals. That or a blood transfusion, which you might get to work if you can get two hollow needles and a plastic tube from Miss K right away.

We met the Kitty Goddesses responsible for unweaving souls from the dead, and asked for help in talking to or saving the girl.

We managed to only frustrate the one who was talking to us, what with our mass of voices that talk all the time, occasional crazy random nonsense, and how we receive information in bursts.

We couldn't work out a deal because she didn't care about people dying, and she was kindof a bitch about it and so a lot of us got REALLY PISSED.

Well, we made a rival of death's handmaiden and learned that deamons should not have access to this kind of power. Also, they claim that the girl's wounds are lethal and she 'will' die son if they do their job correctly.

Also, some of us would like to know more about the cosmology of this land as it seems to be run rather more sloppily than most worlds we are familiar with. More loopholes and exploitable backdoors into the metaverse, we may want to see if we can kill two birds with one stone and remove this dangerous power from the deamon's hands.. as well as seeing what we can't do about some metaphysical reorganization.

The Kitty Watcher threatened us rather explicitly and while I do not fear her power to end us, she 'could' sever our current link to this world, rendering the Orb little more than a rather gaudy crystal bauble, which would suck for you and annoy us to no end.

And healing magic won't work on her, because she's part demon...

What about suspended animation? If we can stop or slow her metabolism somehow, she might be able to hold out until we find someone who can heal her properly.

Sorry Player. We just couldn't convince the kitty goddesses to intervene.

I don't know why everyone's so upset about that, though. Even if we -had- managed to convince them to revive the tallist girl, she'd still be suffering from Deficiency Of Goddamn Everything once they -stopped- helping. That wormhole thing drained far more than blood, Player. According to Inky, it also did a number on levels, sanity, tissue, everything.

This is pretty callous, I know, but without divine assistance she might be better off dead even if we COULD nurse her back to health.

And even with it...I don't think they would have kept her alive for a long time, Player. Enough for you to get some information out of her, and maybe enough for her to a live a little, but...It's not a death god's business to keep a mortal alive. More the opposite, which some of us just can't seem to grasp.

Admittedly, Inky was far too impatient for us to properly explain our case, but you'd sooner see pigs fly than a cat admit fault and it's not like we were all roses with her and Amanda either.

*sigh*

It sucks, but that's death for you. Sorry we couldn't do more, Player. We -were- told that the box thing looked like a "trigger" of some kind, though. It's likely it's a tool to indicate when and where to send stuff, and what to drain to power the process...Which means the main force behind it could lie elsewhere, in House Darkhope lands.

I'm not at all sure there's a 'war' coming, like some, but something clearly -is- up in this dungeon. I hope you're still up for crawling around there, Player. Maybe you'll run across something else that can help explain what's going on, and still earn your silver in the process.

We should fetch Miss K. This seems to be largely a lost cause by typical medical standards, but she seems to know quite a few handy things.

If we want to keep this girl alive at all costs, you can forcibly prevent death of any body that isn't cut to ribbons by mechanically ventilating and moving her blood, basically give her CPR. Miss K might be able to get something to either do that after we tire, or get some superior medicine that can fix up the body so that it can take over again.
>>

Y'know actually these guys have a point. If there's anybody who's at enough of an apparent technological disconnect from the rest of your world to have something to keep somebody alive after grievous injury, it'd be your friend with the pink hair.

Its not so much that they didn't help, its that they didn't care, and in fact, mocked us over how much them mortals were fucked at the end. And "impatient" is a rather kind definition for the level of callousness Inky showed.

Regardless, with the girl...well, I dunno what we're gonna do. She's on the way out, and we'd need some rather drastic medical techniques to change that. She's going to die of Multiple Organ Failure, which means she WON'T survive without aid. She'd need an IV, constant respiratory and circulatory management, and surgery, and even then she'd have more than a 30 percent chance of dying. Id like nothing more than to somehow save her from deaths clutches, as I think that would satisfy my own desire to one up those two, but at the level your society is at, some form of magic is about the only chance she has, AT ALL.

Yeah that only works when your gods have empathy, which is not typically a trait of psychopomps. (EXCEPT ONES THAT TALK IN SMALL CAPS, but you wouldn't know anything about that.)

Unless you know how we can get in direct contact with any gods who are a little more willing to work with us, there's probably nothing to be gained from going this route.

As sure as we are of anything, I'd imagine. We still haven't really worked out all the rules of your world, y'know.

>Why whenever I have you I get philosophical? I wasn' thinking any of this when she had you.

I would suspect that the twins taking her even while she still really lives would be breaking some sort of rule of their function, killing her before she's dead as it were. At the very least, it can't hurt to try, and if she seems to be stable and living but not really there you can always put us back on her to go in and take a peek.
IV and surgery seems a little risky, at least here, but taking over breathing duties and mechanically forcing blood round her system is doable albeit draining. It gives extra life time for the body to recover by itself, or for us to allow healing remedies to repair it.

At this point not only is it a last ditch effort to learn more about what's going on, it's also an interesting test of some of the boundaries on how the kitties interact with the mortal world.

No it's not really a good idea. It's a desperate idea for a desperate occasion. We need some way to make sure that she doesn't die.

As suspended animation seems out of the window I come down to dark ritual or blood transfusion. I don't think the transfusion will work but unless you happen to know how to call on demonic assistance or other dark powers that's about the only option left open. Or you could attempt to activate the box and hope for the best.

>>

Transplants aren't required, it just means that the body needs assistance in reaching homeostasis before it can even consider healing itself.

MODS just means it needs a SHITTON of help to achieve this, dependent on how many organ systems are failing, over a period of time. Thats with 21st century medicine, however. We might as well ask Ms. K what kinda neat toys she has, cause the only other hope for it is Magical Healin

"Not were, are.
Allright, look; a phoenix down is kind of a white powder with brown specks, I think its refined mostly from hemp and two or three other plants. You prepare by diluting into alcohol -- sugarcane alcohol only; high-proof firewaters like cachaça can do the job -- and deliver to the bloodstream via wound.
Usually you dip or sink a blade into the mix, and cut or stab the patient to make the delivery. Physician 's daggers are perfect for this, since they're very thin and very long -- minimal entry wound, deep penetration. Seconds later the patient is up and ready to fight, even if for a little while. Going berserk for a few minutes after application is normal.
But a phoenix down is only good against shock or unconsciousness, and neither are the case here and now."

I'm pretty sure she's unconscious, but

A) We don't have a phoenix down
B) She'd be in a berserk state if she was roused awake.
C) I'm pretty sure no one wants to be up to that sort of pain.

I know, but I thought I'd point it out anyway.

A thought:
Is there any magic that can be used to fix objects? White type holy healing magic is largely incompatible with her as a demon, but item restoration should be a neutral thing. If we can fix the box plugged into her it might help stabilise the situation on a more long term basis, giving her time to recover.

Okay, you do have a point about her being unconscious. I'm still not sure if its a good idea, I was taught to only use on fresh casualities. I never really questioned if there's a medical reason for that.

Eh.... I remember stories about yggdrasy's leaves being able to wake the dead, but that's just it; stories.

Heh. You ramble about the craziest things.

Well, thats just something you learn when study first aid. I never joined the military lifestyle or something, but I did learn to fight in a military school; where else would I? About the--

Hey. Never dismiss Yggdrassy. You live in a world where magic exists. I guarantee you that weirder stuff has happened.

If your idea works, weirder stuff is about to happen.

Miss K: "So, what's the problem?"
"I was thinking, do you have something we can use to keep the her alive?"
Miss K: "What do you mean?"

Sun: "Forget it."

Yeah that's not acceptable. Kitty gods won't win this one no matter how hard it is to keep her alive, or revive her.

We win some... we lose some, what's important is that "we alwus come back fer anuva go..." This will not be the first time we have failed, nor the last, but at least this time tragedy was not our aim.

I do not fault the powers of death for merely doing their jobs. Such is the way of things, there are assuredly worse fates to be found.

However, such blatant arrogance and disdain as found in the one called Inky... that.. that will not do!
>>
No. 134247 ID: 8b7db1

Well, lets be honest here. We don't really want to try and bring her back for some noble purpose. We want to bring her back to PISS OFF A GOD OF DEATH. ...getting useful information would be a nice side effect, though.

Nope. But she is a nosebiting lesbian that has made her disintrest pretty clear. I don't think Player will succed there, no matter how much of a playa he is.

I see what you did thar.

Anyway. I'm thinking that this is merely for petty revenge. Granted, I'm convinced that's a good enough reason, but we don't even know if she'll like us.

Granted, if we pulled her back from hell, she'd better put out.

What we should do is go back to the dungeon. If there's a way to bring her back, we'll find it. If there isn't, then at least we can stop the demons from making any more victims like her.

agreed...
Next time, when we mortally wound a demon... and it's dying... We can drop bye to give a friendly: FUCK YOU.

then proceed to steal the soul...

We should really take that up. Soul stealing. Think of the powers this orb could achieve from that!

EXACTLY!

Idea:
we get demon souls...
Allow them into the commune of the orb...
Let them redeem themselves...

And then Player here gets demon powers... cause demon souls can use demon powers... right?

No. 135082 ID: 3a4a54

No, no, no.

The correct rebuttal is something to the tune of "Their words are as empty as their souls! Man ill needs gods such as them!"
>>
No. 135090 ID: 19ecf1

>>135082
huh?

I was thinking that we literally become legion... except inside an orb instead of a human.

I mean, we learn a few tricks with our soon to come demon friends and suddenly, we get to take over other demon bodys when we steal their souls...

And we purify demons into good demons... or something...

then whup Inky's ass...
other cat seems to be nice enough, so we leave her be...

And all shall be well in the world...
