from what the cliff notes say, you've been kidnapped by aliens and forced to compete in gladiatorial combat for their amusement.

Bright side, kick ass prizes await you should you win... I think, they were very vague about what happens when you win but it's got to be good right?

Go back to sleep, it's not like this is a labyrinth filled with deadly traps and vicious, slavering monsters or anything.

Just kidding! It is a labyrinth of death and pointy things! so look sharp! Just do what we say and you, uh, probably won't die in one of a variety of spectacular and visually-pleasing ways.

Oh j-jeez. That's not good! O-okay, I'll describe this place as best I can.

This is a fairly large room. The only furniture that I can see is that chest and the bed I'm sitting on. I'm using the term bed liberally though, it's basically just a mattress in a frame.

I don't see anything that I can carry around though. Sorry.

Somehow kidnapped by aliens is the best explanation I'm gonna get given the circumstances.

I still don't know who you guys are though. H-hey wait a second! The last thing I remember before waking up here is a voice cofmgratulating me on being one of the chosen, and telling me to listen to the voices of my new overlords. That must be you guys!

WNE... Why is N closer to W and E than S? Maybe it's not a compass, maybe it means something else. In your language or theirs. Alien characters could have similar [your species] counterparts, if the alien alphabet is made of simple strokes or a similar origin.

That "TTT" might imply that you're supposed to go in one direction three rooms.

Well, this is all speculation. Loot the treasure chest, you're going to need it.

Important question: Did the bow the dumbarcher dropped disintegrate along with him? It looks like it did.

You have a bat, and a strange crystal. If you're desperate for ranged attacks, you can play ball with the crystal and hope it doesn't shatter. But for now, try to escape. The archer might be alone but he's got the high ground, any attempt to get in melee range runs the risk of a lethal attack.

(Man, I miss that one dungeon crawling game where "baseball player" was an actual choice. Along with vampire. I forget what it was called.)

Er, I don't think it should be used that way. Seems like an upgrade item. Is there a bow to pick up, and do you need Moving Parts to use it? If no to either, we should save the decision until after we ask the computer what the Force limit is, exactly.

For reference the gem is apparently the "Archer's boon [rank 1]", and the recommended uses include "Unlock Moving parts, Increase Force limit, +3 Aesthetic appeal". Three critters hanging on the ceiling, all level -19 or -20. Should be as pathetically easy to defeat as everything else, assuming you can bait them down where you can reach them.

...I don't see any bows, but if they have a ranged attack you probably will need to beat a hasty retreat, as they could attack you with impunity.

So try to taunt them while hanging out near the door I suppose.

Kind of surprised you don't have dice, dice are like coins, there's just more sides! They're a simple, low tech way to generate random numbers. They can be used in gambling (betting on who will get a better roll), in board games (how many spaces you move on the board), in role playing games (how well your character performs an attempted action) and all kinds of things.

>How do crystal batteries work?

Menoetius: "Self-powered items with moving parts like the autocrossbow require a power source. Crystal batteries are the default, however, through some effort, it is possible to add custom batteries to the store. The higher the rank of the crystal battery the longer it lasts and the larger the devices it can power. Because it's just a stupid battery I decided to give them away for free."

Menoetius: "As for how they work, you just pop them into any device that uses them and go crazy. If you are interested in the technical details go beat up a nerdy looking Busaskan Kinter until they tell you. It's what I would do."

>What's this about material density?

Menoetius pauses for a few seconds.

Menoetius: "Prometheus insists that bolts are supposed to be small and heavy. If I actually cared I would pull up the entry for "bolt" in the dictionary of Human words like he is asking me to do right now. Because of this fact, it's best to make it out of metal. Since it was specifically requested for it to be made out of wood, he decided to just use really dense wood."

Menoetius: "Again, it is possible to use arrows in the autocrossbow, but my advice to you guys if you want to use a bolt is to try to get the boon which allows you to customize material properties since the one for unlocking new materials is too easy."

Menoetius: "You are just about out of questions for this room. You would have more if this room were a higher rank or if you asked dumber questions."

Sure, we'll hopefully have down time in-between the fighting and survival stuff, and I bet getting some basic game stuff from Menoetius would be relatively cheap. We're not in the room with you so you'd have to move stuff for us on our turn, but it should be doable.

Well I guess that confirms you're encountering identical rooms, not the same room over and over due to space shenanigans.

I'm thinking we might want to want on the bow till we've unlocked a little more stuff. The opposition so far has been really weak, and we can afford to save points for a little longer while trying to unlock density.

Do we have enough left to ask about Prometheus? From context, he's the item designer?

Morgan: "Thank you."

>Do we have enough left to ask about Prometheus? From context, he's the item designer?

Menoetius: "Oh, him? He was one of the earlier titans. He designs all the items. Originally he ran the shop here as well, but that didn't work out very well. An item designer must be able to empathize with the players to understand the items they want and must be smart enough to design them. Unfortunately, he was also smart enough to figure out other ways to help them out, like lowering the prices of the shop's items, or that one time when he tried to coordinate an effort to shut the game down for good. Ha ha!"

Menoetius: "That was about the time I was made. At that point, the designers decided it was best if he couldn't interface directly with the players, so out with the item titan and in with the loot titan! Luckily I don't care about any of the same stuff as him, I just want to see violence! glory! death! That's what I live for!"

Oh shit right, that orb is an enemy. It's a tough one too, watch out. Might have to retreat if it doesn't go well.

>I dunno what that is but it's level ZERO.
>Seriously though, you should consider retreating.
>Oh shit right, that orb is an enemy. It's a tough one too, watch out. Might have to retreat if it doesn't go well.

Morgan: "It's level zero? In that case, I definitely don't want to be fighting it right now."
Morgan goes back through the door into the V room and finds someone else waiting for her on the other side.

She is wearing a bag that looks comically large on her, however, she doesn't appear to have any problems carrying it, despite her childish frame.

As soon as she sees Morgan she shouts excitedly.

[???]: Я так рад, что ты здесь!
[???]: Я знал, что ты еще жив!

New language detected. Loading language pack...

She calms down and sets her bag next to the door. She addresses Morgan.

[???]: Тебе нужна помощь [help] с [clearing this room?]

Say hello, and tell her you missed the first few things she said due to language difficulties. She might have the same delay, so you should wait for her to either repeat what she said or ask you to repeat yourself.

Also yeah there's a level 0 orb enemy in the room behind you that you're not ready for. This room with the ceiling slimes? Some assistance would be nice I suppose, it's just precarious.

Morgan: "Er, hello. I missed what you were saying."

[???]: [You don't speak Russian?]

Morgan: "I missed that too, I don't understand your language."

She switches to speaking in English.
[???]: "That is fine. I speak English fairly well. Do you want help killing the enemies in this room?"

Morgan: "That would be nice I suppose."

The young girl nods and reaches into her bag.
She stops and stares at a point in space across from her.
[???]: [Wait, she's a what?!] she hisses in Russian.

D'aww. Wait, ask her what is in her necklace. If she gives it to you and it has [metal] access, you could give her a weapon in exchange!

>[???]: [Wait, she's a what?!] she hisses in Russian.
Um. That was "Wait she's a what" in Russian. Sounds like her helpers may have just told her something about you, and she didn't like what she heard. (Guesswork- we can't talk to her, and we can't hear whoever can, either).

Be careful, if the voices she's hearing are malicious, they might be trying to force a fight or something. Even if she is just a kid, the gear she's carrying suggests she might have been at this longer than you have.

Try talking to her? "Is something wrong?"

Oh, the language pack upgrade only applied to us. Sorry Morgan.
Ask her how long she's been in the maze. Any idea what's with the compass markings?

Morgan nods silently in confirmation.

Morgan: "Is something wrong?"

She looks back toward Morgan: "Do not worry, it is nothing. I am glad to have found another character. I was thinking I was the only one in here."

>Ask her what is in her necklace.
Morgan: "What does your necklace do?"

[???] holds it up: "This? I found it in a box. It was in the room north of the room behind me. It is the bow person's gift so it can make moving weapons stronger."

She hoists an oversized axe out of the bag and begins making her way toward one of the holes in the ceiling.

>Ask her how long she's been in the maze. Any idea what's with the compass markings?
She answers Morgan: "It has been a few days. They thi- I think the markings show where we are in the maze."

Another blue slime drops down and she slices it in half with the axe.
She pauses and whispers in Russian [Only second varient. What level was it?]

The girl puts down the axe and points north and south. "Going those ways changes the top arrow."
She points east and west. "And going those ways changes the bottom arrow."

She picks up the axe again: "When you move, the square markings on the other-" She cuts herself off. Короче, "Since the colours change unpredictably, we cannot find our way around the maze."

[???]: "That is enough from me, what about you? You do not have players, is this correct?"

She means us. Yeah.

I say once this room is clear we go grab that autocrossbow and team up with her to kill that orb.

Morgan: "Yes?"

[???]: "Then, prove it: what is the square root of 3?"

Morgan: "How am I supposed to know that?"

[???]: "Not you them! I'm telling you, they are good at this stuff!"

Fuck, this quest is just coming apart at the seams now ain't it? I think it's about time I let it die. Trust me, you aren't missing out on much.

Here is a protip: Don't base your quest on "No Man's Sky."

I'm going to write a conclusion for the archives. I have lost enough sleep from this quest already though, so I'm going to wait 'til next week to do that.

This was fun. Thank you TG Chan. Audios!

I'm trying to decide if it's a good thing or a bad thing if she recognizes you as having players. Does that make you someone to cooperate with, or a competitor? If this is a game, there's a lot of rules we don't know.

>[???]: "Then, prove it: what is the square root of 3?"
Root 3. It's already as reduced as you can get it without introducing inaccuracies and rounding errors.

Fine if you want an irrational number: 1.7320508075688772935274463415059...
