Bright Emerald Fluff
120a13
You focus, sharpening your magic into an small bolt of energy, feeling the magic drain from your reserves to shape to your will. You open your eyes to see the stellar magic hovering above your open hand, glowing dimly. Set up along an opposite building are glowing circles of silvery light, shields produced by Kaguya for targets. She notices your magical power manifest itself, and she steps to the side, gesturing towards the targets.
"Have at it."
You nod and step forward, eyeing each target a moment before selecting one of the easier ones to hit. You judge the distance a moment, then hurl the stellar magic at the target. It closes the distance within milliseconds. It slams into the target and reflects off, fizzling out a few seconds later. The reflection makes sense, must be a Lunar thing.
"Seems like you've got the hang of it already. Not all that surprising, getting woken up from suppression instead of learning from scratch."
You fire off a few more, feeling the small drain with each shot, one at each target, gradually increasing in speed. After hitting each, a surprisingly easy task overall, you settle back, letting the magic settle. You're fairly certain you could easily call it up again if need be, and judging by the speed you could fire at, it seems like being a Stellar lives up to its name. You have little to judge off, though, so perhaps a true test will come later, when you can make a comparison. A slow clap comes from behind you, and you turn to see another girl, in a similar frilly outfit as Kaguya, looking vaguely annoyed and a bit condescending.
"Good job. You can fire the most basic of spells. Maybe next we'll get you to actually do something useful?"
"Sunny-"
"Yeah, yeah. I get it. Don't mean I want to be here."
Kaguya looks apologetic as she places herself between the two of you, hands raised in a soothing manner towards the new arrival as the Lunar glances over her shoulder at you.
"Hey, she's Sunny, as the commons know her. I... well, she doesn't share her soul name. Least not with me. Sunny, this is Stella. Sunny isn't the best team player, but then most Solars aren't. Kinda their thing to be as magnificent in appearance as possible. They draw from the adoration of crowds, after all."
"Sure, just give her my life story while you're at it. Look, Stellar, I'm not here to play nice. I'm only here to help get you up to speed. First step for that is getting you an attack power, sure. I would say we'd shape you magic for defense as well, but, let's face it, Stellar magic sucks at defense. Better to avoid than take the hit. Keep that in mind. It's why the wide area attack spells of Solars has an advantage against you Stellars. Best remember that."
Sunny gives you a somewhat malicious grin before Kaguya once again steps in, clearly attempting to remain the friendly party between the two of you despite the obvious animosity you've received.
"Yes, but it's your fast hitting and often times large number of attack spells that make Stellars excellent against Lunars. We can only throw up so many barriers before your magic will overwhelm us. But Lunar magic is great against Solars, who prefer big one off spells which Lunars can easily reflect."
Sunny makes a loud humphing sound, but otherwise makes no move to refute the information. For a moment, there is silence, then Sunny breaks in again, sounding bored as opposed to condescending.
"So... she know about the traits yet?"
"I was getting to that."
"Well, I'll start then. Pay attention, new, blood."
"Stella."
"Whatever. Each of the magical types has a trait that sort of sticks with them, regardless of how they shape their magic later. Solars, like me, begin to gather excess magic from our spell uses and store it within our bodies, like an overflow container. The more magic we use, the more it grows. We can draw on that store of magic to supercharge a spell later, the more we have stored up, the more powerful the overcharged spell will be. It's called Overcharging among us girls."
"Lunars, like me, can bleed off magical energy from spells we reflect with our shields. It makes us great against the high power usage spells of Solars, but the low power of the Stellars makes us siphon off such a small amount that we expend more erecting the shield than we get back. Siphoning, to keep the terms similar."
"And Stellars, like you new blood, have a sort of chaining effect. As more spells are chained against a target, the more each successive spell will do to that target. You gotta hit the target though. Not shields. Makes you vicious against Lunars, as even if only one or two spells break through at a time, each spell will eat away at their passive defenses more and more. Not to mention strong ones can launch so many spells at once that a Lunar can't block them all easily. It's called, rather unimaginatively, Chaining."
"That covers the basics, I think. You've got a basic attack spell, and you have a movement ability to. That should cover you for a little while, particularly until we can get you somewhere to practice and you can see about drawing in more power from your source. Stellars are causes, so the more you represent your cause, and promote people belief and support of that cause, the more power you'll draw in to augment your own abilities."
"Pansy ass cult leaders."
"Sunny!"
"Whatever."
Kaguya frowns, but returns her attention to you, that apologetic look on her face again.
"Sorry about her. If you have any questions, now would be a good time for it. After this, we'll head off and see about getting you some proper clothing, and a few gadgets that might prove useful. Like a phone."
