You are really making no sense.

Our religion forbids cannibalism. And for sure i would not eat one of my own blood.

Nor cremation. We bury our deads, like our grandparents did, and like their grandparents did.

>Is there no one else nearby?

>What about the relatives between you? What has become of the rest of his family?

No one.

My son died far away from home, during a war, years ago.

His wife died three years ago of a horrible cold.

We were alone. Me and Charles, in this village.

>You have my sympathy. Can I ask what happened?

We were selling our chickens at the market when they arrived.

Armed men. Lead by a laughing, horrible person carrying a crossbow.

They started killing everyone.

They started burning houses.

I told Charles to run to the river and hide. I was old and would only slow him. I was already dead.

And then someone ran over me

The last thing i remember befor blacking out was the leg of the horse hitting me and the sensation of falling.

When i woke up, there was no one left alive.

I ran toward the river, hoping to find Charles there.

I found his body right near the blacksmith.

Two crossbows bolts. One in the back and one in the neck.

My poor... beautiful... grandson.

Very good. We will aid you as best we can. This is going to be very difficult, however. They are dangerous men and well, you're an elderly woman. What advantage can we use to kill them...? Do you know anyone that can lend you some magical items? Are you a capable fighter? Can you do anything magical like make potions or cast spells?

You could just track them, find out where they live, then gather information to discover when each one is most vulnerable, and kill them individually when they are least expecting it. Optimally you would do so all in one day so they won't be able to warn the rest of the group. A crossbow would do fine, here. Just load it before each assassination, and one quiet pull of the trigger will kill the target.

We could also use poison, if we can get access to their food.

Tactical analysis. What resources do you have, besides your shovel and knife? Have the bandits already left the area?

I'd point out you grandson isn't the only soul to be avenged. You could take anything left behind by the slaughtered village to serve your purpose, and it wouldn't even be looting. It would be furthering their vengeance.

The leader of their party, the laughing man, doesn't look to be dressed like some low-class bandit in the flashback. We may be dealing with a higher up threat here than commonplace pillagers. Perhaps bigger things than burning.

If they raided the village for blood and gold, chances are they're either going to continue raiding villages and then bring the spoils back to base, making an easy trail of carnage for us to follow, or they're going to binge spend it as if it burnt a hole in their pockets, giving us more time to catch up.

Either way, we would have varying manners to track them. But the others are right, Nana. We're going to need some supplies first. Perhaps anything worth pawning off, if you can't find any money on you. Carrying light will be better for your age, for the time being. Then we'll need transport, like the others said.

You would tell us if there are any animals left in town capable of transporting you, yes? If there are, I assume you can borrow them. If not, we're going to have to do this the old fashioned way until we find you a steed. Seems you'll be getting your fair share of exercise after all.

I'd check for supplies, in your house or others, and gold. If no gold is, obviously, available, anything lightweight and valuable you can pawn off is second nature. And some easy to hide weaponry, just in case. Something unconventional, perhaps. Then we'll get moving.

What. Do i look like a witch? There hasn't been any magic woman in years. The last one died when i was a child, burned at the stake.
I used to hunt and be in the militia when i was younger, before marrying. But that was ages ago. I still remember where the pointy bits of a knife need to be aimed.

Only the bastard was riding. the rest where on foot.

Now that i think of it, they were talking in a weird accent. I don't think they are part of this region.

Mmmmh. They came from the north. And as i could see from the tracks they left, they are moving south. There is another village there. They are probably sticking to the old roads. I could sneak my way through the woods. I've been living here all my life, i know any place of this region like the back of my hand.

There aren't any living livestocks in the village anymore. They even killed the mayor's horse. They are nothing than rabid animals.

>Tactical analysis. What resources do you have, besides your shovel and knife? Have the bandits already left the area?

Uhm, let's see. I got something from my house. They didn't raid my cellar so i managed to get some food, a canteen of wine, a canteen of water. I have the bolts with me, but i decided to keep them more as a memento rather than a weapon. they are broken and looking at the dried blood on them make me sick. What else...
Oh. I grabbed a bunch of jars of powdered herbs i kept at home.
Lillabies dust, i used a pinch of this in my dear Charles' milk to help him fall asleep. A spoon of this can send an adult into sleep without problem.
And the other is concentrated bowelflower dust. In small doses it helps the body be regular. But in bigger doses, mmmh. I think it will probably make you shit your soul. Litterally.

Blacksmith and herbalist it is then.

I'll start with the blacksmith, since it's closer to where i dig the grave for Charles.

And in the corner they killed his daughter Lutezia. Poor girl. She was always a fiesty girl. I remember that Kurt was always worried that her attitude would have driven every suitor off, but i know that he was proud of her.

That axe there in the barrel is a good start. Those horseshoes could be traded for money in a populated town, assuming you're okay with carrying the extra weight. They are quite heavy, however, so you might be better off leaving them behind. I don't suppose any of the blacksmith's work gloves would fit you? Wouldn't want you to mess up your hands. Actually nevermind, the herbalist probably has more appropriate gloves.

Reunite the blacksmith's head with his body. No time to bury everyone but the least you can do is put his parts back together. Is Lutezia holding a bloody knife? That'd be useful too. Clean it though.

Alright. The axe and the knife are mine. The woodaxe is really sharp. The blacksmith must have worked on this before the assault.

Let's see. let's see...

No luck with finding any cart. Those have been destroyed. There is a long rope that the blacksmith used to tie together the wood used for kindling. I'm taking that, and the firestarter and a bit of coal.

There are no spare work gloves. Weird. Those must be on his body still.

Off to the herbalist now.

This place has been destroyed as well, apparently only the stuffs on the higher shelves survived.

Let's see what there is.

There are two bottle of pure alcohol, four packs of dryed smokeherbs, useful to smoke animals from their nests, a jar of pickled cherries, a bowl of dried sliced MadShrooms, that cause migraines if eaten without being prepared correctly and are used to prevent tooth decay pains if cooked correctly, a bowl of dried Pricklyweed, that causes hitches if pulverized and cures menstrual pains if boiled, a loaf of sweet honey bread, and a bowl of caramelized Wasps stingers.

I don't have much space in my sack, i can only take one or two of these, unless i throw away something else.

Any ideas, voices?

Ah, looks like we've gotten some things done since I was last here, good, good.

If anything, if the attackers are foreign, they might not recognize what's exactly potent here and what's not. In any case, MadShrooms and PricklyWeed would be good options, especially if you end up getting captured and they steal your shit. Nasty surprises, ey?

I'm curious about the Wasp Stingers, though. Everything else I understand, but what do they do? It'd be nice to know so we can decide whether those are good to pick up or not.

There doesn't look to be as much blood around here, anyway, so I'd pocket what you can, maybe look around for potential fluids, such as potions or drinks to bottle up, then get moving.

After all, if they're moving like that, then you're right, we won't have time to dawdle. If the Wasp Stingers are of no use or concern, aside from POTENTIALLY sounding like some kind of candy, I'd just grab the Shrooms and Weed and ditch the place.

Also if any of those herbs could replenish your energy, they might be useful. Anything like that there?

Night comes sooner than i expected. It's a good thing that i brought my warmest blanket with me, at least i won't freeze to death.

Alright. Put my back on a tree, try not to get a backpain and sleep. Not the coziest of positions, but i don't really have much choices.

Ah, it has been so long since i slept alone in the woods...

Wait...

I think i hear something.

No, not something. Someone.

Someone is laughing somewhere near.

Whoever was laughing wasn't alone. and not that far.

There they are. It's a group of three, they even made a fire, that means they aren't even afraid of being found out.

And they have weapons with them, laying near their backpacks. I think they might have been with the marauders of the bastard...

One of them seems to be bedridden, he's really pale.

Bedridden guy: "OH SCREW YAH. How was i supposed to know the fucking bitch had a knife."

Fat guy: "Friendsh my assh. YA SHTILL OWE ME THIRTEEN SILVER PIESHESH HAHAHAHAHAH!"

Bedridden guy: "Ahahah you asshole."

They get back to pass the bottle between each other for a while, not talking much. The guy with the hat tending to the bedridden while the fat one kept eating stuffs from the backpacks.

after half an hour the fat guy speaks up again.

Fat guy: "I need to crap badly"

Hat and Bedridden: "Oh no. Go into the woods. Your shit stinks worse than a cart of manure."

Fat guy: "come on, can't be that bad..."

Follow the fat guy. Chop his head off while he's shitting.

...the thought passed my mind to use some of his extra-stinky shit as a stinkbomb to stun the hat guy. It could work if it's REALLY BAD, you manage to hit him directly with it near his face, and you can cover your mouth so you don't suffer backlash from it. Oooor you could use it as a lure. Bring it closer to his camp so that he gets pissed off and storms out to complain about fat guy shitting too close to camp. Then you ambush him.

I think it would be most appropriate to knife the sick guy to death.

No! Leave nothing to chance, especially the chance that they could inform a scout about our vengeance before we've completed it. If possible, finish them off and hide their belongings and remains in case the band sends back a patrol or a scout to check later what happened to these fools. We need to make it seem like they deserted the company, or at least make sure there's no obvious sign we're after them.

An axe to the back of the head is a good start, but we don't know whether our first strike fails to kill and the fat man screams out for help or not. If he does, the brother with the hat will be coming: We would have to finish the fat man quickly and ambush the other thug. Can we come up with a more guaranteed plan of attack than this?

No. 644981 ID: a2b630

Well, looks like you're getting a little fulfillment early.

I wouldn't blindly say kill the lot of them, but that fat one has to go. Let him go out into the woods, then either kill or otherwise incapacitate him.

I say incapacitate them, then interrogate. They don't sound as... dare I say, "savage", as the fat one.

And while I'm not one to play moral compass, killing a pair of brothers immediately isn't much better than them killing the blacksmith. To them, I mean, not you. You need information, and it might do well to make an impression on them to get that info, and you can't get info from them when they're dead.

So incapacitate, then leave an impression and interrogate. Preferably a painful or intimidating impression.

But no, really, the fat one dies.
>>
No. 644982 ID: a2b630

... Ah, I just realized.

You don't have to painfully incapacitate them, either. You may look intimidating, but they don't know you, nor recognize you.

If they don't recognize you, you could play the innocent grandma, if you don't want to shed early blood. Get some food, talk to them for a while, maybe make some passive-aggressive commentary when they talk about the village...

Blood isn't always necessary. But that's only an option. A choice, rather. The fat one still goes.

First of all those men are bat shit crazy in case you haven't noticed, and I'm pretty sure if they'd kill EVERYONE IN AN ENTIRE VILLAGE, INCLUDING ELDERLY AND CHILDREN, they'll kill her too the second they see her. Second, she DEMANDS this happens. She NEEDS blood to be shed for the atrocities they've committed. She isn't going to let a single one of them live.
>>
No. 645093 ID: a2b630

Yes, but having information would also be good in case they have a change of plan from what she assumes, right?

How are we to know they won't change plans, or they won't turn around? If we cozy them up before killing them, we can at least get some confirmation.

And she may be bloodthirsty, but she's tired, cut her some slack.
>>
No. 645204 ID: 164c83

Well, the slack I want to cut is this: Will we actually be either safe, or able to rest, while these folks are nearby? We stumbled on to them pretty easily, unless grandmother goes a long distance away can you really guarantee they won't catch us instead and finish killing off everyone from the village? No, no such guarantee is reasonable, therefore we have to guarantee our safety by putting down the threat before it can overcome us. And we are just an old grandmother, if we let them live as anything but dismembered cripples they can overpower us if we try to tie them up or anything. It just isn't practical to try and 'incapacitate' them without actually killing them.
>>
No. 645222 ID: a2b630

You also disregard the fact that if we incapacitate the fatass, we could easily pull a hostage situation and not drag anything out?

You overestimate our charge of protection, here. We need to save most of her strength. And if Hatty is smart, he'll be more for protecting his brother than his band, from what we've heard.

If we just go butchering everyone, what do you think it's going to do for us and our plans of vengeance against the /particular/ and /specific/ bastards responsible? THINK before you ACT, mate.

Hmm, I'm a bit worried that the hat guy will hear that this idiot stopped singing and come check on him. Then again we can use that to our advantage.

Circle around to the camp from a different direction. If the hat guy leaves to check on fat guy, he'll leave the sick guy alone, who you can stab. Then you can check the pile of weapons for a crossbow or something to use on hat guy. Or you can poison hat guy's food and then let him run off in a panic. You'd just have to track him for a day until he eats something and succumbs to the poison, at which point you could finish him off. There's no way he'd sleep after that.

Stabbing an already injured man, yes, that sounds reasonable.

Grandmother, listen. You already killed the current asshole of their trio. But we don't want you to expend too much strength in your first go, so you don't have to fight the other two.

I say, make way back to camp, check to see if Hatty is present or not. If he isn't, and he's left his brother alone, sit with him. Don't immediately antagonize, just sit with him, with your axe nearby.

After all, you could use some answers, and a bit of leeway in case Hatty comes back, right? And if he comes back, you can hold the axe to his baby brother's neck -- not killing him, though. Just a hostage scenario.

You got your blood for the day. The other two don't HAVE to die. Let's think this through.

Problem: If the brother that's well goes off to check on fat guy he'll be prepared for a confrontation and the other brother will sit ready with a crossbow. These are murderers, they surely expect to face someone trying to kill them because that's actually the kind of thing they get paid to do. They're better skilled and prepared for that situation than we are if they know to expect it, even the sick and likely-dying one.

So, revised plan: Can we set up a tripwire, or snare or something to catch the able-bodied one when they come to check up on fat guy, and then lure him with a surprised sounding yelp if he doesn't come on his own? We need that advantage to win a fight against an able-bodied, professional murderer that's expecting a fight even if we ambush him from an unexpected direction. Hopefully the injured brother will choke on his own puke or pass out or something while we wait, loot the bodies and hide the evidence of the other two. That's shitty because the main force of this army is getting further away, but we're too close.
Any alternative tactical assessments?

If you dropped the axe because of the punch, I say try to grab his weapon at the same time as drawing yours. If he loses his weapon or can't draw it because he's grabbed your arm, you should be okay.

I am way too small compared to him, i'm probably not going to be able to push him. Nor kick him again, i almost lost my balance there.

A good punch on the nose sounds good.

If he can't actually take care of himself he'll probably die of dehydration in a couple days, or sooner if we steal his stuff and suffocate him while asleep.

Let's start with the most important question.

Who is his leader.

B.G.: "U-uh. His name is Uldgarr Von Brutenholm. He started funding a small army in his town and me and my brother joined him. He's a crazy person. H-he always smile, like he has some sort of paralysis in his face. C-creepy as fuck."

I press the blade on his neck and ask him why they attacked

B.G. : "He ordered us! This ain't the first village we destroyed. It has been a couple weeks that we arrived here and he paid us to kill anyone, without asking questions..."

You ask him why he decided to attack this region then.

B.G. : "I... I don't know"

I press the blade a bit more

B.G. : "I SWEAR! HE JUST TOLD US TO FOLLOW HIS ORDER WITHOUT QUESTION. HE PAYS WELL AND LETS US DO WHATEVER WE WANT. I'M NOT COMPLAINING."

You ask him where the band is moving next

B.G. : "Probably the next village! We are following the roads and get to village after village. Right now they should be half a day away from here. They left me behind because i was wounded in the fight by one of your men... My brother and Brutus stayed behind with me... We'd have to just follow the road and meet them after i was able to feel better."

You ask him if he believes in hell

B.G. : "Y-yes i do, why?"

Three backpacks. One sturdier than the others.

They really didn't have much on them.

Black bread, too hard for my poor teeth, Cheese, two bottles of what smell like watered beer, a small box with bandages, a small bottle of alcohol, salts and herbs. A canteen,a knife, two short swords and an axe with a short handle.

I'm not sure you should take much of anything without leaving something behind, as we're already at capacity. Maybe swap out your knife for one of those short swords if you think you can handle them as well. Or if their knife is sharper, trade yours for theirs. Your lumber axe doubles as a walking stick as you've said so maybe you should just keep using it for your main weapon. I'm worried that any weapon meant for real combat will be too heavy for you to handle. Although... if you can swing that short axe two-handed it might be more effective in combat...

The box with bandages is nice, if we have room for it. Canteen, too.

The larger backpack is the best choice. It's large enough to fit everything i brought with me, and it doesn't hurt my back too much. I think i can even fit something else inside.

The small axe is way too heavy to swing for me. I'll stick to my wood axe for now. The other dagger is better than the one i stole from the hat guy and from the one i brought from home, i'll take that.

>Ask who it is, maybe shield your eyes to get a good look at them.

>Tell the spirit you have no fear of death left, but you would prefer to be allowed to complete your vengeance.

I can't really understand her features. Her entire face seems to be covered in shadows or... smoke? That's definitively weird.

I ask her if she's a ghost or a spirit.

No answer.

I tell her that i'm not afraid of her, but that i have a vengeance to complete, a man to kill.

No answer. I'm half tempted to just go back to sle.

Gods, that can't be a natural voice. I felt my spine freeze for a second.

She's still not moving. Glaring at me. At least i think she's glaring, since i can't see her face at all.

Tell Uther that those men don't deserve his warrior's way. Warrior's way is for honourable men. They need to be dealt with like the vermin they are. With traps and poison.

They are beyond honour, so expedience and effectiveness trump honour and valour here, but as we have recruited Uther to our cause (hopefully for his redemption or at least to give him vengeance on the swine who've tainted his honour) we would duly respect any information and ideas he can contribute to making sure to 1) survive long enough to kill them all, 2) kill them all, 3) if we can manage this to torture the particularly guilty to death... but that last one is strictly less important than the first two.

>Tell Uther that those men don't deserve his warrior's way. Warrior's way is for honourable men. They need to be dealt with like the vermin they are. With traps and poison.

>Uther, our goal is to ensure that they will not be capable of harming further non-combatants. If we have to poison them, so be it; would your ancestors, would any rational person, compliment you if you fought these bandits in the middle of nowhere and risked everything when you could have ended their raids on innocent people with cunning and patience?

>In all seriousness, we expect that you'll probably get detected, so prepare for a fight. But we should try the path of least resistance first. Besides, you need some stealth practice.

I tell him that since it's my revenge, we are going to do things my way. That those murderers don't deserve a warrior death, and beside we are outnumbered and won't be able to win a direct fight

Uther: "As you wish babikka. Your way will be"

He takes the lead and move into the woods. He seems to know what he's doing and where to go.

After a couple of hours, he signal me to hide under a tree and wait.

From behind our cover, he points in front of us.

I barely see anything until i hear a loud swear and see a person coming out from the shadow of the woods, picking sticks.

He's wearing similar clothes to the marauders and he's armed.

I turn to silently ask if he is one of them. Uther nods.

He then looks at me. Probably waiting for something. An order? Or maybe he's waiting to see what i do?

Wait for the target to reach for another stick with his left hand. Then throw all of your knives at the guy; aim for center mass. Also, don't be concerned about his combat ability or if he is left handed, just shut him up.

Uther, charge.

Wait for a few moments. He might not be alone. If he is, motion to Uther to get the guy into a chokehold. He won't be able to scream that way and Uther could easily snap his neck with those bear arms of his if he proves to be too uncooperative.

True. It's better to wait a little.

he seems to be alone though. He's talking to himself, complaining how he won't bet anymore for firewood duty.

I signal Uther to move around. He nods and quietly disappears.

Then i step out and say hi

???: "Vat the fuck?"

Uther appears behind the guy before he even manage to react.

I take his dagger while Uther blocks him and threatens him with the axe.

I tell him that he's our prisoner.

??? "V-vat? Vat is going on here..."

Uther pushes the blade a little more on his neck.

Uther: "Now. Be a gut boy and lizten to thebabikka"

He nods slowly

Uther: "All yourz, babikka"

The maraunder is terrified, voices. That should help us, right?

Either Uther is really crazy strong, or that guy has glass nose.

Ask him about his leader's whereabouts and their camp's layout. If you have any luck, you might need to only light a fire in the right place at the right time.

"Where is your camp, and who, and how many guard it...what is for dinner, and where is it?

it does not matter what he says this time. Break his left hand.

Ask the exact same question again.

It does not matter what he says, break his right hand.

Ask the exact same question again.

It does not matter what he says, break his Left Foot.

Ask the exact same question again.

It does not matter what he says, break his Right Foot.

"I will ask you one last time, and then we work our way up your limbs...Where is your camp, who and how many guard it, and what is for dinner, and where is dinner in your camp?"

This time will be the truth...

Stab him in the remaining eye with his dagger and be done with it, we are out for revenge, and while we are on a path of monsters, we are not one.

Mmmmh. better make things clear. I tell Uther to keep him still.

And then i put my foot on his finger.

I tell him i'm going to break his finger one by one if he doesn't answer me.

I don't think i'm getting anything else from this guy, voices.
