Spirit of the dead? Perhaps... the spirit of the girl you avenged?
Man it would be great if, as you avenge people, they show up as ghosts to assist you. Then you won't have to rely so heavily on surprise attacks and indirect kills.

Regardless, you are an old woman camping in the woods. Should be little reason for anyone to be hostile to you. Also, uh, if you tried to fight I expect you would lose easily since you have no element of surprise and are currently prone. Ask who it is, maybe shield your eyes to get a good look at them.

She doesn't look like much like Lutezia. Nor any woman i have ever seen in my village. I can't still see her features.

I can't really understand her features. Her entire face seems to be covered in shadows or... smoke? That's definitively weird.

I ask her if she's a ghost or a spirit.

No answer.

I tell her that i'm not afraid of her, but that i have a vengeance to complete, a man to kill.

No answer. I'm half tempted to just go back to sle.

???: Vengeance

Gods, that can't be a natural voice. I felt my spine freeze for a second.

She's still not moving. Glaring at me. At least i think she's glaring, since i can't see her face at all.

I sit in a more comfortable way, and i start telling her my story. The whole massacre, the laugh of the bastard and the horror of seeing my own nephew on the ground, dead.

Deal with the bandits for the sake of the living, not the dead. I decided to help you because you were willing to deal with an active and serious threat, not to obtain some profitless revenge.

Come to think of it, can you tell us more about your family? Your neighbors? We'd like to make sure that you're not some AI, a sentient golem convinced that she was a mere peasant.

Because we're an old granny coming from places where those folks have already been, and murdered everyone. It's a question of just how much order of march and force discipline this group has--do they have a rearguard that's actually guarding the rear?

I am pretty sure she is not faster than them. The only reason we caught those three bandits in the forest was because one of them was injured and being tended by the other two.

Until we get a method of fast transport like a horse and cart or something, the best we can do is catch up while they're busy pillaging or partying.

We have no time for a crisis of morale, the wraith's presence in our dream is observation: How would she know if we are determined enough besides examining us and our progress? Proceed, and ask Uther about the size of the force, what they've got for scouting, rearguard and general security or guard: We need to know what we're advancing on and if we have opportunities to poison them all or what.

That's right. I'm not going down nor let a spirit take me until i take my revenge.

I tell the same to Uther.

>Ask Uther if he thinks if it's a good idea to continue following the raiders off the road. He is a warrior, he must know more about pursuing the enemy than an old peasant woman.

>ask Uther about the size of the force, what they've got for scouting, rearguard and general security or guard: We need to know what we're advancing on and if we have opportunities to poison them all or what.

Good ideas.

Uther: "Vell. Ze force lead by ze smiling moron counted almost three dozenz people. But i have to admit none of them vere good soldiers. troop vasn't marching correctly. Too many people not vorking nor folloving orders. Ve have alvays moved too slovly. Ve should catch up vith them quickly if ve stick to ze roads and then hide. Zey don't have many sentinels set. and the camp is usually a mess. If you vant to poizon them you could be able. I guess. Not ze warrior vay. But it's not my role to zay vat to do"

Uther, our goal is to ensure that they will not be capable of harming further non-combatants. If we have to poison them, so be it; would your ancestors, would any rational person, compliment you if you fought these bandits in the middle of nowhere and risked everything when you could have ended their raids on innocent people with cunning and patience?

In all seriousness, we expect that you'll probably get detected, so prepare for a fight. But we should try the path of least resistance first. Besides, you need some stealth practice.

Tell Uther that those men don't deserve his warrior's way. Warrior's way is for honourable men. They need to be dealt with like the vermin they are. With traps and poison.

They are beyond honour, so expedience and effectiveness trump honour and valour here, but as we have recruited Uther to our cause (hopefully for his redemption or at least to give him vengeance on the swine who've tainted his honour) we would duly respect any information and ideas he can contribute to making sure to 1) survive long enough to kill them all, 2) kill them all, 3) if we can manage this to torture the particularly guilty to death... but that last one is strictly less important than the first two.

I tell him that since it's my revenge, we are going to do things my way. That those murderers don't deserve a warrior death, and beside we are outnumbered and won't be able to win a direct fight

Uther: "As you wish babikka. Your way will be"

He takes the lead and move into the woods. He seems to know what he's doing and where to go.

After a couple of hours, he signal me to hide under a tree and wait.

From behind our cover, he points in front of us.

I barely see anything until i hear a loud swear and see a person coming out from the shadow of the woods, picking sticks.

He's wearing similar clothes to the marauders and he's armed.

I turn to silently ask if he is one of them. Uther nods.

He then looks at me. Probably waiting for something. An order? Or maybe he's waiting to see what i do?

Wait for the target to reach for another stick with his left hand. Then throw all of your knives at the guy; aim for center mass. Also, don't be concerned about his combat ability or if he is left handed, just shut him up.

True. It's better to wait a little.

he seems to be alone though. He's talking to himself, complaining how he won't bet anymore for firewood duty.

Then i step out and say hi

Uther pushes the blade a little more on his neck.

Uther: "Now. Be a gut boy and lizten to thebabikka"

This time will be the truth...

Stab him in the remaining eye with his dagger and be done with it, we are out for revenge, and while we are on a path of monsters, we are not one.
