It is for us to pray not for tasks equal to our powers, but for powers equal to our tasks, to go forward with a great desire forever beating at the door of our hearts as we travel toward our distant goal. - Helen Keller

Helen Keller, God dammit. You can't trust her or her disembodied spirit.

And these other voices must be her Legion of Evil. Right? That's what you guys are, right?

If Helen Keller wants me to build a door, she can forget it. No one interrupts my sleep, demands that I build doors, curses me and gets away with it.

How do you propose I build a door anyway? I don't have any tools to work with. All I have is my switchblade, and if you think that I can cut through these walls with it, then you're crazy. These walls are made of solid concrete. Knives don't usually cut through concrete.

Besides, ya'll just want me to build a door so that Helen Keller can invade the earth with her demon armies or something. I've seen enough movies to know how this ends.

And yeah, jail cells usually tend to be pretty sturdy, but I don't see why this is a good thing. I'm hungry and I want out of this cage. Now.

Maybe this guy can help me.

With that said, you're right. I should probably ask if he's got anything to drink.

Eli: "So do you have any water? Food, maybe?"

Louis: "Yeah. I locked everything up in the armory downstairs."

We start for the door. As we walk, he explains what's been going on.

People are becoming infected with some kind of disease. He encountered the infected outside of town. His partner was bitten, and in an attempt to save his life, Louis decided to drive into town and find a doctor. Instead, all he found were more of the infected.

I'm the only survivor he's seen so far.

I... don't know what to say, what to think, what to feel. 25,000 people are dead and I'm not sure if I should feel sad, scared, or glad that its only 25,000 infected and not several million of them.

Actually 25.000 dead people are REAL bad sign...

Ask Louise if that are any working tv or computer with internet connection on the police station. If police station have either working tv or computer with internet, try to turn it on and try to gather any possibly information of the disease that are spreading around area.

And also I agreed that they should head down the armory and stock up.
>>

Ignore door-building. There'll be time for carpentry after the apocalypse. Unless you're dead. Hopefully not for want of a door. Also don't mention that you have voices in your head. Or indicate it at all. Ask for weapons for self-defense. And ask Louis if he feels hungry for 'peels'

Agreed, though I'm not so sure asking him about peels is a good idea. I mean, banana peels can be pretty disgusting, and orange peels kind of taste like tough leather.

Eli: "Hey, Louis, have you tried calling for backup?"

Louis: "I have, but the phones are out. And the computers. And the radios, though I'm sure I can get them working if I..."

He freezes at the sight of bloody footprints going from the bathrooms to the left and into the stairwell in front of us.

Louis: "Those aren't mine..."

Eli: "Is that an arm?"

Louis: "Shhh."

He slides his gun out of its holster and readies it.

Louis: "Stay here, Eli. If you hear gunshots, find a place to hide until I come back."

Curiously, he doesn't give me instructions just in case he doesn't come back.

Should I follow him downstairs, or should I stay put? He might need my help. Then again, he probably didn't make Lieutenant without learning a thing or two.

Remember, I still have my switchblade if I'm caught up close with one of those things.

One of the chairs is actually mangled, so pulling one of its legs free takes very little effort on my part.

>>340099
Sounds like a plan.

Eli: "I really, really don't think we should split up. I mean, safety in numbers, right?"

Louis: "I'd really rather you stay here, Eli. Its safe here, and it'll only take me a moment to clear the way to the armory."

Eli: "But I can help! Two heads are better than one, and what if one of the infected sneak up behind you? I'll be there to back you up."

Louis: "...fine. Just keep your head down, okay? I don't want you getting swarmed by the infected."

With a nod, Louis leads the way taking us through the doorway and into the stairwell. The person, or thing, that came through here tracked a lot of blood. Its leading all the way into the lobby.

Louis says that the cops here turned the basement into an armory and stocked it full of guns and ammo. They never used it before the infection spread because this town was pretty peaceful. I guess we're just lucky they never got to use it after the spread either.

We come to a stop at the door. The glass seemed like its covered in blood on both sides of the door, so we can't really peek into the lobby and see if the guy shambling around is infected or not.

Should I open the door for Louis so he can blast whatever's on the other side to pieces? Or should I just hang back and wait for him to clear the lobby?

>>
No. 340176 ID: 6e44d2

Mmm, it's better to open the door together. You pull it open and let the door shield you, in case there's a hostile waiting to spring at you the second the door opens, and Louis will stand a few feet back with his gun trained at the doorway. Swat teams do something like that. It's sound strategy.

Building a door doesn't have to be a literal door. So:

"To leave this place, I think."

This, dude, is not very convincing.
What would you be looking forward to if you got out of being stuck? Is there anything that you care about outside this place?
And why were you in jail for a D&D?

You keep ending up in 'prison', seems we should figure out why.

X Gauge? Good name for it, I guess.

Each person is born with a virtue that they must embody, like Humility and Patience. I was born with Loyalty.

Filling the bar is a matter of simply sticking to that virtue. Some spend their entire lives passively practicing Hospitality or Temperance. Others go out of their way to perform Feats of Endurance or Courage.

Some virtues are better pursued actively. Others are best pursued passively. Right. I feel good. I just need to keep thinking like this. It'll keep me awake.

Keep talking to me.

Also, tacos are great. Mama wasn't much of a cook. but she did make some amazing tacos. Don't have any ingredients for tacos, just canned food and fruit I requisitioned from a house I definitely didn't break into.

I think I remember seeing a store. Probably has all the things I need for tacos. I'd need to leave the station though.

Might be morning. Might not. Bastards broke my watch. Light means I can see those fucks coming at me. Less shadows and all.

Maybe if you believe in that stuff. I don't. The bar is useless, pointless.

I know from experience.

But sometimes, when I'm alone and asleep. I dream. Its taken me a while, but I've figured it out.

Freedom. When... If I fill that bar, I'll be free.

The zombies? Dunno about them though. They're a mystery. Not like I care anyway. They bit one of my friends. I tried to save him, but he died on me.

Then he turned. I shot him, point-blank. Right between the eyes. Saw him giggle and laugh right before I pulled the trigger. I felt him clawing at me, trying to pin me down, to push me to the floor.

I killed him. Had to. Had to protect myself. Besides, its what he wanted.

What's with the questions anyway? If you're voices in my head, you should already know all this. You're me.

Doesn't matter now, I guess. Just gotta think now. I can head out and get to the stuff to make some tacos, or I can check the building for more infected. Or do something else...

Killing him? From this distance? Not a problem.

Gun's in my hand in a second. Takes another second for me to aim and fire.

Timing's good, I think. Mechanical. Methodical. Good words. Words are good. I'm good. Me siento bien.

Walking up to the doorway, gun in hand. Shit, I'm hesitating.

I should be walking in there and putting a bullet in anything that moves, but I'm not. That crying. Could be someone, could just be another of the infected.

Gotta think here. If I pop in guns blazing, I could hit someone not infected. If I could lose the advantage. The infected are a lot faster and stronger than they let on, at least once they get hit.

You still hear two distinct voices? We do see an 'infected' around the corner, but they're acting less zombie-ish so i'm not really sure we should be shooting first and asking questions later. I mean, pop out and level the gun and perhaps give out one of those 'take a step closer and I shoot' lines (but actually do shoot if he takes a step), but... Well, considering you just fired an unsilenced firearm into his buddy not all too far from him, quite frankly you already SHOULD have lost the element of surprise.

Gunfire doesn't always grab their attention. It can and it does when it does, but its not a guaranteed thing.

If I showed myself, they'd sprint at me. I think they rely on sight. Probably do, though I'm not entirely sure.

Right. I turn the corner and level my gun. Got the infected guy right where I want him, but I don't pull the trigger.

The man painting the walls blue shambles over to me. I fire once, punching a hole in this throat with a .357 round.

Blood spills. I blink.

Gotta move fast to save that woman. Got four more shots before I need to reload.

Where should I put them?

Yell "OH GOD A REVOLVER WAS A BAD DECISION!" and fumble backwards. Do the Left 4 Dead Zombie-Shove (tm) and shoot at the head of the one BEHIND the one on the woman (the one the woman's wrestling with will probably be moving too much and she should be able to manage him for a bit), then kill the one attacking you, then make sure to get a CLEAR SHOT for the last one lest you hit the woman, which would cost you a life if my Aracde Shooter manual is correct.

I give the infected man directly in front of me a kick to the chest while he's still stunned from the bullet to the throat. He chokes on his own blood as he falls to the floor.

I raise my service revolver, aim for the infected directly on top of the woman, and fire. First shot goes through his elbow and into the wall. Next shot punches through his skull, spilling blood and brain matter upon exiting.

The woman curses. I ignore it. Not done. Two bullets left.

I shift my feet and feel them slide. Something wet on the floor under me. Probably blood, though it could be paint. Not sure yet. Can't think about that right now.

Third shot hits the big guy through the shoulder. He moves, making my fourth shot tear through his ear instead of through his skull.

He's angry and I'm out of bullets. Gotta reload. Speedloader's in my pocket, I just need a few seconds. Do I have that kind of time? Dunno if the painter's gonna rush me or if that shot through his throat was enough to kill him.

In hindsight, I probably should've switched guns back in the armory.

The one who fell to the floor and who you turned from may not stay down, so you may be in a position between two potential hostiles. It might be prudent to fall back through the doorway while you reload.

As Z suggested, you should try to push the infected guy through the windows. Because you dropped your gun and it is risk the woman will be seriously injured before you could pick up your gun and aim at it.

Ok, let us analyze some facts.

Louie the cop said that infected are lot stronger and faster than normal human. But this current infected are moving slowly, maybe because of injured. So that we SHOULDN'T underestimated it´s speed.

Infected are smart enough to lift up the corpse and throw at the cop and then attacking the woman.

The revolver that had been dropped on the floor don't have any bullets. So picking up the revolver to use against the infected are out of question.

That are bucked with blue color.

The keys are lying on the floor, possibly keys for the jails.

My best conclusion is that you should try to run past the infected guy while avoiding being near it. If infected is about to catch you should try to push infected's chest so that it will trip over the cupboard and then continue running away. Alternative you could use the bucked with paint to temporally blind it.
