I'm Roanna, my father is the chieftain of aaaaall of this land. He is a great warrior, but has maintained peace for our tribe.
Today, he sent me to travel to the far end of his land to buy him (and me) some horses!

Right now, I'm taking a rest.

The kelt can sleep in the common room near the fire. Flora can get some very small room with a single bed and you can share one with Ada. Since you're both high class that should work out.

Tomorrow you can get a few extra soldiers to guard along the last stretch of the travel. You're probably going to have to pay for food for them yourself, but if you sell your "righteously" aquired weapons at the next town over then it should cover the cost of food for the extra guards.

THe right, and honourable thing to do, would be to show him you are better than your brethren and ask him what honourable combat exactly entails. If it's less than to the death, challenge him to it. He deserves to have a fair chance!

If you want an escort, the truly responsible thing to do would be to ask the local lord to spare a few of his men for you and pay them yourself. I dunno why you would need some NOW though, if you didn't need any when you left home.

>>269372
Apparently the definition is pretty loose, since he considers that he already lost honorable combat to us.

No; he needs to be well-rested at the start of travel, and it looks like he was awake all last night.
Two rooms. Ada and Eoghan in one (give Eoghan instructions that he's to obey any reasonable requests she makes, of course), while you and Flora take the other. Cute cuddle toy~

Tonight you should draft two letters. One you will hand to Ada, the other you will hand to Flora. Both will be sealed with your insignia.
The outside will give orders to whoever they meet; Ada's that she is a visiting dignitary under royal protection and to be escorted to your father, while Flora's stating that she is royal property and not to be touched.
The letters themselves will be addressed to your father and explained what happened with Ing from how it relates to Ada and Flora, respectively. However, you will leave out the evidence of forbidden god worship.
For THAT information you will have the old guard pick somebody he trusts to lead their escort and relay that information in person.

Tomorrow morning you'll want to do a few things before you go;
*Check on those two lovers to see how they're doing.
*Check on the former slaves to see what the final tally was, collect your cut, and see if they've gotten any names from Ing.
*Meet with the old guard to arrange escorts (He should stay behind to keep an eye on things.)
*Meet with the local lord to get these escorts subsidized.

He's a hardy Kelt. A night on the floor near a fire should be freaking luxury to him.

I think Eoghan deserves a bit better than sleeping on the floor tonight, though I guess he's probbably used to worse.
Ada doesn't seem to mind sharing a room with an exotic hunk, as she offered to sleep with him, actually.
And so, Eoghan will sleep with Ada, I'll sleep with Flora.
I instruct Eoghan to follow Ada's instructions, being nobility, he can't really refuse anything.
I'll send the letters tomorrow, father taught me ways to hide things in existing letters, and other methods of getting messages across through hostile terrain, I'll take care of it tomorrow morning.
And I don't really see the point on checking up on those 2 lovebirds, they're just minor nobles, and they're already getting married anyways.

I quickly crawl into bed with Flora, who is already sleeping, after shaking a faint temptation to use her as my personal teddy bear... slave.. I just decide to get some rest.
I feel she's softly hugging me, like her teddy bear though... I decide to just ignore it and get some sleep, she's probbably just dreaming anyways.

The following morning I write the letters, send 'em off and immediatly go and visit the local Lord. The rest of the gang is still asleep.
When arriving at his keep, I show my insignia and am led in. One of the royal guards mentions my share of Ing's assets has been calculated, and is being sent to the tavern as we speak.
After being told to wait for a while, I'm let into the Lord's chamber.
The man is tall, even for a norse man. He's wearing a golden crown decorated with gems, and is wearing a finely crafted outfit.
He eyes me up and stands up from his (massive) throne, and starts marching past me, slowly.
"Roanna Ragnvaldr... fifth heir to the throne..." he starts, "Responcible for little more than bringing her daddy a few pretties, and some occasional coins, in her careless adventures into his lands."
He pauses for a moment, and starts marching back and forth in front of me, "Yet, when you arrive at my town, you cause major unrest with a big feast, upset the nobility with stripping Ing of his title, somehow a statue of Lady Siv vanishes, and half the population can't work today because of a hang-over."
Stopping in his tracks he stands still and looks at me again;"I had to cover up Ing's arrest with accusations of treason and corruption, and set to work a sum of my soldiers to replace the working force that's laying in bed now, moaning about their headache."
After a moment he starts marching again: "You didn't think I wouldn't find out What Ing's been up to, after you made a spectacle out of his arrest like that, did you?"
"It's costing me a lot of money, and it could've costed my head had I not reassured the nobility. All because of your recklessness, just like your father."
I feel kinda bad.. father sometimes gave me speeches like this when he was really angry.."And that, child, is why you are most welcome in my town, whenever you wish to visit."
He breaks off his stern teacher act, and gives me a hug, "Such carelessness is what get's things done and is what gave me a job, I was growing terrible bored with all these boring, routine duties untill you came along."
"Thank you sir" I tell the lord as he lets me back down "You knew my father?"
"Knew him?" he chuckles, "I saved his life countless times! Damn fool never learned to watch his back!"
After catching up a bit with him, it becomes clear that he fought with my father during the wars.
His crown is because he's of the last royal family that ruled over these lands, he defected from what was left of it to join father, and for his loyalty he was allowed to keep his status, and was given a wealthy port town.

"A few man?" he asks, when I bring up the matter of an escort for myself and Ada and Flora. "How many are we talking, 200?"
"uh.. more like, I donno? 10?" I suggest, "I just need 1 or 2 men to watch my back for the last bit to Sigmund.
"Buying some steeds for your father ey?" He asks, so I tell him "And hopefully myself, sir."
"Well, I suppose I could spare some royal guards, they're my best men." His lordship tells me, "As long as you can feed them, they're on my paycheck."
"There was this old guard.. I think he fought with you and father-" I try to say, but am in interrupted, "Omarr".
"Sure, I guess? anyways, he was really helpfull, and seemed loyal. I'd like to ask you to have him keep an eye on things, in particular the affairs that involved Ing. We don't know if anyone was sharing his worshipping."
"Concider it done." the lord proclaims, and after some further idle chit-chat, I thank his lordship, and make my way out.

Is there anything left in town we want to do? purchase armor, food? clothes for the Eoghan?

Go to the barracks and speak with the commanding officer so they can work out logistics.
Eoghan isn't used to armor, so it would screw up his ability to fight. However, since clothing in general would do the same thing and we need to keep a somewhat low profile you should get him some flexible armor along the lines of soft leather.
You want to check on the former slaves to see how well they're adjusting and what they've gotten out of Ing.

After that, all that's left is to see Ada and Flora off. Ask Ada how she enjoyed last night, and give Flora a hug - if she hugs you back, then kiss her forehead.

logistics?

I decide to drop by a leather tanner on my way back to the tavern, and pick Eoghan up some light leather stuff, We still have the cloaks from last night, so he can put that up if he needs to be a bit less obvious.
As for the slave, they have the local nobility and whatnot showing them the ropes, hoping to get back part of that money some day. They'll be fine. They're to report what they learn to the soldiers, so I'll find it out sooner or later.
When I arrive at the tavern, everyone's up and about, I inform them that we're moving on, sending Ada and Flora with the armed escort.
Before they leave I take Ada aside and ask how she enjoyed last night, and "What'd you make him do?~"
"Oh, hehe, It was pretty tame, before you get any ideas.. I mostly had him do push-ups, work up a sweat, while I watched.." she says, lighting up a bit.
We continue to joke around a little about Eoghan, and say our goodbyes, she give me a last thank you and walks off.

I take Flora apart for a moment, and give her a hug. She doesn't really react, as I've come to expect. She just let's it happen.
She doesn't seem bothered or anything, I guess it's just a force of habit.

I wave them off at the town gates, and make sure I know they're on the right path.

Now then, I can either travel as far as I can with Eoghan and 1 or 2 guards, or we could have a duel.
Eoghan would be a lot more loyal, but it'd mean preparing hallowed grounds for the duel. It'd take a small chunk out of the day, and I'd have to decide to do it here, or when we made camp.
If I win, He'll be as loyal as can be, and if I lose, my life belongs to him. I'm fairly sure I could take him, but is it worth the risk?

Instead of dueling for YOUR life, have the terms for victory be his freedom.
Besides that? You don't want to spend that much energy just before leaving on a trip, and you don't want to waste even more time.

What? No duels. You won fair and square. Ambushes are fair, just as feints and trickery in a fight are. So no jepordising your freedom and health on a silly duel to doublesettle a score that has already been settled. You can show him that you're superior with arms later as a training session, then your freedom isn't at stake either.

Get your gear and armour on and start moving instead, you have lost enough time being blitzed out of your mind on cheese. By the way how much money did you get?

After picking up my share of Ing's assets, I've now got 3000 pieces. A mount will likely be 500 pieces or more, unless we can haggle it down a bit.

Well, I guess if I ever need his unquestionable loyalty, I could duel him some other time.
I suppose I could also change the conditions, his freedom versus his unquestioning loyalty? he'd have to beat me twice to gain my freedom.
Either way, that'll have to wait till tomorrow.

We move a fair bit off the road and set up camp, after making good progress for the day.
The 2 royal guard I took with me have offered to be the ones to keep watch, and I can't say I want to object to that offer.

They're getting firewood and water from a nearby stream right now, I could tell some stories, or ask them for stories, alternatively I could wait for them to get back, and get some sleep.
I could also duel Eoghan now, with my terms for the duel. I feel fit enough to fight.

No duels. You can spar with him later and then prove how much more awesome you are, but no duels.

Anyway, watch with just 2 dudes is kind of hard on the two guys. Split it up evenly between all of you. And remind Eoghan that he is yours now, even if it's his clanmates that he see he's to raise the alarm. Anyone comes near the camp and he wakes up everyone.

Oh, and see if you can get the guards to share some wartime stories with you. You have probably heard quite a few from your dad over the years, but it's quite different to hear the stories told by the grunts compared to the ones told by the leaders.

While the guys are getting wood and water, I take some time to quickly, and crudely, carve a sort of wooden sword for Eoghan. I plan to spar a bit with him.

When the lads come back we spent some time around the fire, eating some soup and bread, aswell as a bit of dried meat.
It is delicious, appearantly the thinner guard, named Anundr, is a great cook!
The other guard is a bit of a brute, big and strong though, he's called Anvindr.
They exchange a bit of chat and share some of their stories, they tell us they were weren't really soldiers before this, through odd luck they ended up going from raider to being royal guards.

After we finish up our fill, I lay out some branches to indicate the hallowed ground. This is just practice, and I haven't given Eoghan a propper weapon.
My sword, on the other hand, it still quite sharp. It might be better to put the scabbard, or I could just be really really careful not to slit his throat.
I've made sure he won't see this as a propper duel, so even if he beats me, it doesn't count.

Anvindr-"5 pieces on the Kelt."
Anundr-"You think she can't take him?"
Anvindr-"He is stronger, he will win."
Anundr-"Oi, I'm not as strong as you, and need I remind you, during that brawl in Krissendam, it was me that saved YOUR ass."
Anvindr-"But you are not also lady, usually. Besides I save you from Angel."
Anundr-"All you did was tell me not to stand up!"
Avindr-"And you owe me for it."
Anundr-"Well then, just because of that, I'll bet you 10 pieces she'll win."
Anvindr-"You're on."

The guards are talking about something, I think they might have noticed my ever so sexy curves~

Anvindr-"Shame she is so young, I would've showed her a good time on this journey"
Anundr-"Just remember who she is, we don't want to end up like we did on our trip to Pol."
Anvindr-"Don't remind me, I still can't get comfortable around those freaky daggers."

How should I open the duel? agressively with a low high or chesthigh blow, defensive and wait for him to leave a gap in his defense?
I could just go berserk and throw him to the ground, though that's a bit risky.

Eoghan-"ready?"
Andundr-"Get on with it!"

Fight defensively. It is better to let him make the first move and take advantage of any mistakes he makes, rather than to risk the opposite happening. Also, if you get the opportunity to smack him around, make sure to do it with the flat of your blade, so you don't seriously injure him.
>>
No. 271028 ID: c71597

>>271017
You have a shield and he doesn't. So play it defensively and see what he does. If it was the real thing you should probably give taunting a try to make him overexert himself because he doesn't want everyone to say he had a hard time beating a girl. But this isn't the real thing to save that trick for later.

After you have seen how he attacks and moves a few time you can try to smack aside his blade with your shield when he attacks and then either go for a stab(stopping slightly before you run him through) or a short smack on the side of his head/throat with the flat of your blade. Or fight dirty and go for knees, legs and groins. But those tricks are also good to save for when it's the real thing, then they're so much more unexpected.
>>
No. 271056 ID: 40cb26

Yeah keep on the scabbard, it wouldn't do to hurt him.

You want to start on the defensive, as reacting has advantage over an initial assault. Especially if your opponent isn't familiar with your ability and technique.

>>271028
He didn't have a shield in the first place so fairness isn't an issue. He just isn't a shield fighter.
>>
No. 271057 ID: c71597

>>271056
Just having a shield when your opponent doesn't isn't being unfair. It's just being better prepared. Sort of like an ambush. Attacks to the knees and groin could however be seen as dishonourable conduct and various other crap. Which is why it's a good idea to make other people believe that you're honourable, then they won't expect it.
>>
No. 271163 ID: 701a19

>>271017
Let him make the first move, and pick a tight defensive strategy - focus on learning how he movies and not getting hit, attacking only when the chance of success is high and the chance of a counter is low.
Once you understand how he moves you can switch to more aggressive tactics.

272084

Eoghan lashes out at me, each time striking with both hands above his head. The first I push away with my shield, and the second I parry.
I let his blade slide down mine, and I manage to give him a punch to the face, his stance is less stable, and he has to assume a new stance now.

I could re-take my defensive stance, or I could try to continue attacking him. If I do, I'd have to choose how. I could disarm him, try to floor him, etc.

How should I proceed?
>>
No. 272114 ID: c71597

Use your right foot to push in his leading leg further, that should take him more off balance and hopefully make him fall forward, since he seems to have alot of his weight forward right now. Anyway, when he falls forward is when you meet his face halfway with a shield slam.
>>
No. 272236 ID: 45be60

>>272114
Yeah, that guy is just asking for a foot sweep. Don't give him a chance to set his footing though, or you will end up on the ground instead. I would recommend keeping your shield dedicated to preventing his sword from getting anywhere dangerous in the mean time, and just using your shoulder to 'encourage' him on his way down to the ground.

I try kicking him off his foot, but it's just planted too firmly.
Meanwhile, he swings his blade up, which I manage to block with my shield, after regaining my balance from the blow shortly, I bring around my blade to his neck.

R-"Gotcha."
E-"Well fought... Should I call you mistress now?"

Anvindr-"Hand em over."
Anundr-"No way, you still owed me 5 pieces from saving your arse from back in Pol."
Anvindr-"What? We never went to Pol!"
Anundr-"Not as far as you remember, you drunk."
Anvindr-"You drink more than I do!"
Anundr-"At least I can still walk straight after 3 tankards."
Anvindr-"Fine, in that case, you still owe my 5 pieces from that sabotage mission neat the Eoghan wall."
Anundr-"How did you save me there? You blow up the charges too soon and they just happend to propell me away from that guard!"
Anvindr-"still count."
Anundr-"fine."

Oh my, I guess that does sound interresting..~
Anyways, should I just hit the sack, or should we share some stories, or something?

Anvindr-"Not to commit to treason, but you can really get a nice view on her backside from this angle."
Anundr-"you always focus on the wrong parts of women."
Anvindr-"What's wrong with a bottem?"
Anundr-"The front's more important."
Anvindr-"Guess I can't argue there."
Anvindr-"...If she heard us, act drunk."

What.
No.

We retire to a campfire and each try to come up with some tales, the night progresses and Anvindr and Anundr share the most stories.

Anvindr-"...And so he drops the King's damn royal seal, right into a storm drain!"
Anundr-"Not my fault, tiny ring was so slippery."
Anvindr-"After you got your greasy hands all over it, yeah."
Anvindr-"So we were panicing, hacking away at the storm drain to get it back. And I swear to the gods, that thing was more solid than the armor of nobility we've fought!"
Anundr-"Anvindr was crying like a little girl, complaining we would get flogged if we did not get it back, too."

The night passes, with a long washing list of highly improbbable and crazy stories. If even a shred of them are true, they've been all over the world!
It really shows how bad some nobles can be, and how hilarious being a merc can be! It's quite a change from father's stories, who rambles on about how important it is to keep the kingdom together.
They must be impressive warriors, or incredibly lucky ones. I'm starting to get a bit tired though, And I ask Eoghan to take the first watch.
They'll stay around the fire for some more tales, and I discreetly ask Anundr and Anvindr to make sure he doesn't try to flee, just in case.

What's coffee? What's caffeine?

I feel guilty because he had to go and get killed while I could've done something, I'm the freakin' king's daughter of all people.
He deserved a propper burial, if anything... I already gave up on that small chance he's still alive, I had to move on, get out of father's keep.
Thats why I'm usually just wandering, adventuring. I can't stand being cooked up in some fort anymore.

I'm so -not- in the mood for jumping the Kelt's bones, maybe some other time.

The raiders that hit us were some continentalists, probbably hired by one of father's rivals. They killed everyone and burnt most of the bodies.
Hakon's body wasn't the only one that wasn't found. Some people were rounded up and hung in their camp or the town square, others were just tossed on the piles of burning corpses when they were still alive...
Father said he sent some of the best warriors he had, way overqualified for just taking on regular mercs. They think they hunted down and killed every last one of them, but there's no way of knowing since we never knew their numbers.

Where the village used to be is now a flower garden, with runes and stuff to honor the fallen. The hut father had built for me and Hakon should still be around, I haven't visited it since I last saw him...
After that disaster father started sending out more patrols but the other lords aren't as keen to spend more money to keep their roads safe.

ugh, I think I need a drink, already.

No drinking in the morning. Makes for bad habits. Get dressed and get some food in you instead.

So, there were no punative raids in answer for it? Damn, well I guess we can change that. Might take some time to get done though.

And don't beat yourself up over what happened. Wasn't anything you could have done by staying there. And by going to made it more bearable for Hakon, he knew that even if he would fall, you would remain. That probably meant a lot to him towards the end. Knowing that you would have died as well would probably not have helped him at all in any way.

By the way, how much more travel until we get the horses?

Father said he knew who probbably paid for the raid, and send out a couple of raiding parties. They were all successful but we got no answers out of it.
If I had stayed maybe he wouldn't be dead now, or I could've been more presuasive and he wouldn't have stayed. Or maybe I could just've died with him.
I dont think he was captured, if he did they wouldn't leave behind my sword, that thing is worth a fortune.
Whatever, I should be just a few days away from Sigmund. 2, 3?

He wouldn't have been any happier because you died there. And you wouldn't have changed the outcome. And your father certainly wouldn't have been happier. Sucks to be one left behind, but it eases the passing of those that fall to know that someone they cared about lived.

Anyway, enough remembering about the past. There are new developments that require your attention. Specifically a robed dude with some wierd censer and claw hand thing. You should probably check what that's about.

Enough of the past indeed!
I take a big sip of my tankard, that hits the spot.
A mage? I guess? he's wearing a kettle helmet, do mages wear armor?
whatever, I am unflappable, appearantly.
I ask for Anundr by name, he seems to say something to which the figure nods, and he walks over.
Ro'-"Who's that?"
Anundr-"Strange man, smells of death."
Ro'-"Bad news?"
Anundr-"Don't think so, he say he was looking for herbs in the woods when he found our camp, says he is doctor."
No mage then...
Ro'-"What does he want?"
Anundr-"If I had to guess I would say annoy me as much as Anvindr does."
Anundr-"But he told me, he wants to sell wares and offer services. Just remember doktors are expensive, he only came because he saw royal seal."

I ask Anundr to wake up the rest and start breaking camp, though I ask him to stay close in case the doctor is up to something. He wanders off for a moment to kick Avindr in the side and tells him to break camp, who proceeds to do the same to the Eoghan. Anundr then rejoins me.

I walk over to the doctor and greet him; "Hail, I understand you're looking to sell your goods?"
Now I'm closer I get a chance to inspect him more closely, he's wearing a kettle helmet, cheap but good protection, its modified to show some kind of beak popping out of the front.
His face is hidden behind some sort of dark veil, aswell as the shadows of his cloak. His hand is coated in pieces of iron, forming a small bit of protection and tipping his fingertips with bird-like claws.
His robe looks pretty tight around the chest, wide in the armpits and thinner in the elbos, then a lot wider at the sleeves.
The cloak and hood are kept together by a brosch, it looks like a plain, undecorated bronze plate.
The man's posture doesn't change at all, his stiff shoulders remain perfectly straight as he grabs a small suitcase.
When he pops it open with what I can now tell is a huge mechanical claw, I start to notice the incense he's spreading, It's like the exact opposite of Asmund's tent.
Dr-"Yes, I have many wares. Leeches, oils, ointments, herbs, incense, etcetera."
Dr-"The tools are not for sale. I can cure any ills you might have aswell."
He seems very straight forward, only saying what's essential to get the point across, not one for merry conversation.
I can recognise a few of these, some of father's doctors used these when we got a fever or other illness.
Most of those were either ointments or a medicine one drinks, though I'm uncertain of what the other vials contain.
I guess the idea is to mention whatever illness it is you're trying to cure, and he'll advice which vial to use.

That drug thing was not my fault, I couldn't have known it was that potent!
I suppose I could ask him why he reeks of death too, though to be honest, I don't know what death smells like, I don't smell anything that seems out of place either.

Dr-"It is always better to avoid than to cure, I always say."
He hangs the incense from one of his large claw's fingers, and proceeds to grab one of the items from his suitcase.
Dr-"This for example, will, when applies, warm you up. It allows one to keep away frost bite longer."
Dr-"I have a small collection of luxery goods, normally applied after trauma to lessen scars, etcetera."
Dr-"This ointment will reduce scarring left by a wound, and when applied to normal skin or flesh will make it feel softer."
He unscrews a small jar, showing a green-ish substance, it doesn't smell that bad but it's not exactly parfume either.
Dr-"This should allow a wound to be free of infection if applied daily."
Dr-"I carry a small number of drugs also, substances that will help one keep awake, berserker's weed, etcetera. Sedatives also."
Ro-"any kind of scripts, books?"
Dr-"Expensive taste, I have a few scrolls, mostly basic treatment of shallow cuts. Bandages also."

I ask Anundr for a private chat for a moment, and ask him if he thinks this guy is legit.
Anundr-"I am covered in scars, often, I am not concious when treated. But I recognise some ointments, I think he trustworthy. Besides, he wear raven robes, shows dedication."

Roanna-"Berserker's weed?"

After marching for what feels like a good number of hours we eventually run out of songs, and I'm starting to lack behind...

Anundr pauses occasionally to see if I don't lag behind too much.
After a while he asks "Want us to slow down?"
I feel kind of emberrased, I'm the royalty here, wouldn't I look weak if I took his offer?

I guess Anundr and Anvindr are used to marching, and I've always heard Kelts have to make their way on foot since their woods are too dense to use horses.

Have him massage your legs to break up the cramps.

How far did you get, how far do you have to go?

Most importantly, have you learned to pace yourself? What did you learn about weakness and the appearance thereof?

Here's a lesson you may not have noticed in all this: Wishing doesn't change reality. Denial doesn't change reality. Ignoring facts doesn't change reality.
You could have taken a break, but you instead chose to ignore your weakness and press onward and as a result you've suffered an injury that will make you even weaker and slower.

So... good...

I suppose I could send Anundr or Anvindr for the doctor, but he should be a couple of hours away by now. He didn't seem like the type to march fast, but we did travel pretty quickly.
It'll take a bit before I can really walk with a propper pace again. Anyway, we made a lot of distance, at that pace. It should take another 2 days before we arrive.

I haven't been taught how to pace myself, father just taught me how to fight.
You don't have to remind me wanting something badly enough makes it realy, Hakon isn't alive, is he?!
You wouldn't understand, I carry my father's name. If I look weak, he looks weak. I can't live up to him but people expect me to anyways.

>I suppose I could send Anundr or Anvindr for the doctor, but he should be a couple of hours away by now.

Don't bother. This is a leg cramp, and there isn't much a doctor can do for that besides give you something for the pain.

>I haven't been taught how to pace myself, father just taught me how to fight.

Pacing yourself is entirely about knowing your limits, be it walking or fighting.
Surely your father taught you to hold back in combat? That people who fight with all their strength quickly tire and become vulnerable?

>You don't have to remind me wanting something badly enough makes it realy, Hakon isn't alive, is he?!

Probably not, but since you brought him up I should point out that you've been trying to pretend your love never happened.
When we asked you claimed to be a virgin; you lied to us because you would rather wish your time with him had never existed than bear the pain of his loss.

>You wouldn't understand, I carry my father's name. If I look weak, he looks weak. I can't live up to him but people expect me to anyways.

Yes, and now you know that trying to avoid people thinking you weak runs the risk of far worse than proving them right.

Rest up a bit more. Then tell Eoghan to carry your stuff and set out at a slightly slower pace, take regular breaks. Then get a full nights sleep and let the others keep guard instead. Next day you should know your limits better.

And unless something went terribly bad you're not going to need the doctor. Better to let him move on.

You're also doing pretty well for someone not used to this crap. Takes a bit of time to build up long distance stamina. But it's quite a useful thing to have.

No, you'll die making your father sad making him look weak.
You're the chieftain's daughter. If you die that shows he's too weak to even protect his own bloodline.
Let them think you're weak. Better than than proving your weakness by failing.

This brings me to the next point: Ignoring your weaknesses makes you weaker, not stronger. You must admit these weaknesses to yourself, then work against them until they are gone.
You can't keep up with the soldiers? Then walk to build up your strength and stamina.
By the same token, you still nurse the void Hakon left instead of dealing with the problem.
He is dead.
He died with honor.
He enjoyed his time with you as much as you enjoyed your time with him.
The past is past. Remember him, but do not remember him with pain.
When you return home you will speak with your other slave and decide if you will keep her. If so then you will discuss this pain with her, and the pain will lessen.

Oh, and although most fights are quick you're eventually going to encounter somebody you can't defeat quickly, and at that point the only strategy that will see you to the end is fighting conservatively to save your strength so that you will be strong when they wear themselves out.

See how well they cooperate and especially how good they are at marching. They can be the best warriors in the world, but they would still be useless if they arrive too late for the battle because they weren't able to move fast enough. So keep that in mind for the future.

And no, you're not going to live down that party. But there is another leason in there. Drugs seem to affect you harder than advertised. Wait through the night and strike at dawn, drive your ships up onto the beach and strike swiftly before they can react. Loot, rape and then burn. Unless you plan on holding it. Young kids and old people get put to the sword, the ones of an acceptable look and age get taken as slaves.

If they have a palisade then things become a bit more problematical. Especially if you need to keep the place, since that means you can't burn them out.

Anyway, do they know you're coming?

My sister is not with us, but my brother should be arriving with a fleet on these coasts within the week!

The local beach is of gravel, it seems, the boat will have no trouble landing if the waters themselves are safe. My captain has assured me they are.
The soil should be soft, so a direct charge would be costly in lives.

We bear father's banner, they should assume we came to trade. I can consult with my mercenary captains. Night time is almost half the day away, and the men are eager to land.

Oh, this should be easy then. Get everybody off the boats, have them spread out into the markets and other such areas, then call a meeting with the town's leaders. Tell them that they are now part of your father's lands, that they are to inform the town of this, and that anybody can leave if they want to but they can only take what they can carry at a steady pace.

You have enough soldiers to crush them, but if you're conquering lands then it's best to try to keep things intact. There will be bloodshed, but people are less likely to try and stop you if they think you'll mostly let them be. You'll kill fools and drunks.

Well they're bloody well going to have to wait. Or you can go at night. But fighting in the dark is a rather chaotic experiance.

The village is hardly going to let you get off your boats and wander into their village unopposed. They might accept an emissary in. But then they're going to know you're there and can prepare for you. It's a lot better to wait until nightfall and then move in just before dawn. That's when their sentries are going to be tired and least watchful. It will also give you the most amount of daylight hours to work with, making it easier to loot the place and convincing your men to be out of there. If you go now they might insist on staying the night in there, which could get you trapped if support arrives for the village from somewhere near.

Only my flagship had come within sight of the shoreline, we (hopefully) made a few convincing manoeuvres to suggest we were a merchant ship sailing to a village further along the coast. From there we were able to hide our presense.

We've been waiting here for hours, and it's getting dark. In the meantime I've put on my armor. It is made of high quality chainmail covered with wool cloth. THere's another layer of mail to protect my shoulders and upper chest.

One of my mercenary captains has approached me:
Kreszenz-"Our men are ready for ze attack. Do you have a battleplan, or vill ve simply all charge in at vonze?"
I could send in the mercs first and preserve our numbers, but if I do that too often it could upset them. I should set up orders too, who to kill, who not to kill but capture, what to burn and what to pillage. That sort of thing.

You should preferably attack from several different directions. But how feasible that is depends a bit on the lay of the land and how the village is laid out.

As for what to take, depends a bit on where you can unload the goods. If there is a slave market nearby then slaves would be a good thing to grab. Just the ones who look nice or are young and healthy though. People don't want ugly ass old merchandise, or young kids all that often. And since this is a raid, loot anything that looks valuable, burn and kill the rest. See what information you can get about nearby communities. Then go back to your ships and either hit another one a bit further away or start sailing back to unload the loot and possibly get a few more captains in on it.

take a wave approach, and from diffrent directions.
If you can get them to think it was just a raid from inland, you'll be able to take them from the costal side while they try to defend on the inland side...

cause you know, they probably aren't attacked from the shore very often

I've instructed my men to approach from different angles under the cover of night, the mercenaries strike first, then my men move in.
Last, I and my person guard, aswell as the mercenary captains move in.

The Town is quickly burnt and looted, the villagers, some fighting bravely and dying by our blade, some surrendering and enslaved, fall to our will.
A number of them managed to flee into the woods, in this darkness it'll be hard to track them down.

The fight lasts untill deep into the night, and I think this lad looks old enough to be of use.

When we're done here, deviding the loot needs some thoughts.

Get out of there first, then you can think about dividing the loot. Their response should take a day or two, but on the off chance that they can respond earlier you want to be out on the sea before they can get there. Then you can divide the loot, payment for the Mercs comes first. They did their job and so they're getting paid for it. Once that's done you can divide the rest among the other captains. They can handle loot distribution for their own crews. Although everyone should probably get a small bonus for a job well done.

I manage to persuade this weakling into ratting out his chief in exchange for decent treatment. Appearantly his hut was meant to look like any other to not stand out, but is reinforced from the inside.

Luckily, the idiot didn't lock his doors, and kicking the doors open is no problem at all.
The chief is ordering someone out just as I burst in. He seems alone with a slave chained to his chamber. Outside, the village is in chaos and I brought a few of my elite troops.
There's a chest in here aswell, jackpot.

He's ordering someone out? What's out the other door?
