On the other hand, if you think it's safe, yeah, the radio is under that delicious KFC - I mean, severed Tezakian wing over there.

WHAT'S IN YOUR INVENTORY?

I pick up the radio.

Moezaki of 2nd Infantry Battalion, giving a status report.. they're all dead. Everyone.

"No other survivors? What happened!?"

I- I don't know..

"2nd Battalion only had troops attack the east of the city. If you move west now, you might be able to join up with one of the other attacking Tezakian forces."

Roger.

Good lot of help they are.

Maybe you should drop some ammo? I doubt you would need more than 3-4 clips, especially since you're a marksbird and very thrifty with rounds.

Oh and scavenge around for essentials. Try to find your CommandingOfficer and CorpsMedic, you'll be needing your CO's map and compass ( and GPS if you've got those) and your corpsmed's kits. Rations and canteens should be sought after too. I hope you don't mind taking from your comrades, but you'll be needing their kit more than them now );

Okay, I see your problem here man.

Your problem is that you're not dead. People don't like living people, which is something that I learned the hard way.

What you want to do is at least LOOK dead. Go look like you bled out on the ground somewhere. Try to look as though you died in as much agony as possible.

The armored car is unarmed, according to Colour. Plus, we have a first strike advantage; one is distracted, and we don't know if the other is watching the area or not. But yes, I don't think we should open fire until both are distracted, if we intend to do so.

This is a quest set in an already-established universe, with a number of different races (Go look up Tezakia Quest, it was excellent), but with a different setting (possibly in time as well as physical location), storyline and characters. Since Moezaki asked what it was, it would be rude not to tell him, no? ;)

Depending on what role WE play here, knowledge from outside the quest at hand may be admissible. It's a choice left up to the author, and I won't feel bad if we're forced to start with a blank slate. :)

If you shoot civilians it makes civilians afraid of you. That encourages them to support the war effort...against you. If you only shoot people who are trying to kill you and stuff, aka non-civilians, then the ones who aren't trying to kill you won't have as much encouragement to support the war effort. That's pretty much how it works. It's a bit more dangerous than just shooting everyone, in that non-civilians disguise themselves as civilians, and really the only difference between the two is who's decided to kill you or not, but in the end avoiding civilian deaths results in less people shooting at you, and is safer overall.

In this case though, you see Lians, lots of them. And there's only one of you. So shooting one of them wouldn't stop the others from all going, getting their guns, and becoming very dangerous non-civilians. I think a tactical draw is called for here. You need to scope out the place more. If you had received sniper training you'd know this already, but better late than never.

>What's wrong with shooting civilian Lians? They all help with the war effort anyway! It isn't wrong to kill them!

Shooting civilians is just about the worst thing you can do in war. Even if they do support the war effort, they're just doing their job to get money, like how you kill for a living. If you criticize them for doing that, that's like saying it's bad to root for one team in a sports game. The point about them deciding to attack you for shooting at them is valid, as well.

Anyway, maybe you should go into the building to look for that Tezakian. Shooting civvies is over the line, but traitors are A-okay. They would be tried for treason and executed after you win the war, anyway, so you might as well speed it up for them, right?

You are a person with a limited perspective, you cannot know if what you're doing is right or wrong. We want you to sympathize with them so that your limited perspective is widened, and you can only make the correct decisions with proper information, so never EVERY let anyone tell you not to think, for as soon as you stop thinking, you become nothing but a puppet, the one carrying out the will and mistakes of other people, a lifeless husk without its own mind. What about tezakians? Are there any tezakians that you hate, the criminals that need to be put in prison for the good of everyone else? Or even tezakians you like? Are they perfect, do they never once make you angry? Little mistakes can have strong consequences, and you might be carrying one out. Nobody is perfect, and if you don't think for yourself, a tiny mistake of someone else might cause you to do things that are very very bad.

Do you not have beaks, talons, speed, and tactical thought to kill those that would try to harm you? In nature, most poisons are self defense, while death-dealing limbs are the mark of true rutheless predators. Every lian you shoot may be someone just like you, someone that doesn't want their friends and family to suffer anymore from the demonic tezakians that kill and rape their children. So you may be just as bad as the lians you fight... but if you're wrong about them being completely evil, then you are even worse than they are.

Conflicts are not black and white, you do not need to reject your country or destroy the lians. Some lians probably do think that some tezakians are murdering bastards, and they make the mistake of thinking all tezakians are the exact same way. If one tezakian steals from another, does that make all tezakians thieving bastards? That being said, there are some tezakians that DO steal and kill another, and it is only logical that some lians do the same. But you can't tell, the lians you shoot might be forced to be here, they might be the ones that came to the front lines to see if the tezakians are really as bad as they've been told. You're already in a moral crisis in a bad situation, so duck to give yourself more time to think about things, or shoot the wall and RUN so that the other tezakian might get free while they chase after you.

Well, I'm not gonna support either side. After all, you chose to fight the Lians in the name of your country. However, you don't need to go crazy and murder every single Lian you see; you're only supposed to go after your Lian counterpart, who also chose to fight for his or her country. Going after civilians is about the worst thing you can ever do in a war, *especially* going after kids. You aren't insane, are you?

While I'm not saying you should give hugs and kisses to every Lian civvie you see, the least you can do is to let them live. After all, they're just trying to live a normal life during wartime.

Killing is never the right thing. However sometimes you have no other choice. You saved his life at least. If any of the others are stupid enough to come in you can quite easily shoot them too. It's possible they don't realize there's another gunman. More likely they'll go to the ground floor though and try to triangulate your location.

If another comes into the room and you fire again, get moving because they might have sacrificed one of their own to identify your location. As-is you caught 'em totally off guard so there's no way they can figure out where you are just yet.

Yes. You analyzed the situation and decided that taking violent action would, in this case, save the life of a fellow Tezakian embattled with armed Lians.

Remember, *that* was the good decision you made, not pulling the trigger on a Lian- It was knowing when to shoot. Likewise, in the future, it will be in important to know when *not* to shoot. Remember that.

I don't know why all you guys are getting all butthurt about this. This happened in every war since sentient beings realized they can take what they want with force. Not to mention, Moe didn't have any moral qualms about offing civilians before you lot got him second-guessing himself.

Here, a comprimise: Since he's already finished (and I sure moe doesn't want sloppy seconds) shoot the lian in the head. You don't rob him of anything, you prove you've got a spine, and you put her out of her misery. It's the best course of action here, because you NEED an ally in this warzone.

You can report this to your superior in an aside and see if this warrants a court-marshal or not, but you need to put aside the morals of a civilian and bird up. Sure, all you can suggest we kill our only ally because we don't like him torturing (because that's what it is) the enemy when the lians would have done the same to you, had they found you injured and female or thought you would be of some intelligence value.

TL;DR: shoot the lian, gain an ally, report him later.

See if you can't spot his ID. You can report his behaviour to some officer in charge. He's needlessly endangering the lives of his comrades by staying to rape the enemy. He should simply kill them and move on, if he wants to do shit like this then he can join up with some paramilitary outfit where they just get drugged up and then go wipe out enemy villages and rape anything they feel like, then desecrate the corpses and boobytrap them.

Are you familiar with the phrase "Let loose the dogs of war"? It's not literal, as some people think. It means for sentient beings to throw off the mantle of civilization, sanity, and any sense of right or wrong. They stop being people and become beasts, seeking only to destroy and sate their various base urges.

This thing before you is a dog of war. It is a complete monster without pity or remorse. You kill because you must; he kills because he can.

If you want to resolve this peacefully, then tell him you want some privacy.
Personally? I favor shooting it in the face. No pity, no remorse. It is an animal with a disease for which the only cure is a swift death. Be its mercy angel.

Dead man switch. He dies, he explodes. It's fairly common among monsters that want nothing more than to cause as much suffering as they can.
Also, he said true patriots never die immediately before exploding in a fireball, with his name unstated and unsung. Clearly, he was not very patriotic.

As far as the Lian, there are a few options you can take, both in the immediate and forseeable futures.
Immediately? You want to find a dark room with something that can serve as a bed, and treat her tail stump as best you can. You still have another Tezakian in the building, and she needs to be kept out of the area where they would harm her. She will be kept in that room until combat is over. The decision is if you stay there and try to comfort her, or leave her alone. Comforting her is probably quite a bit better for her mental health and reduces the risk of suicide, but leaving her alone decreases the chance that you will be shot if discovered by your own troops. Conversely, being with her will protect you if Lian troops retake the area. Of course, tossing the whole war in the trash and taking her to a hospital would look FAR better to the Lian, and since you're deep behind enemy lines and your entire operation seems to be reduced to a few lone agents murdering people to sate their bloodlust I think that a hospital might be a more sensible option.

In the forseeable future? If your troops reach you first, then you will want to take her as spoils of war if possible. If you take her as a POW then there is a chance she will suffer the same fate you just saved her from as a perpetual nightmare, while having her considered to be your private property would discourage people from touching her.
If the Lian reach you fist, then the fact you saved her will greatly increase your chances of survival and resulting quality of life. You could defect, but you would likely be better off as a captive - again, having one of their own speaking in your defense would greatly affect how you are treated.

Oh, and clean that blood off of yourself.

Moezaki, consider putting that Lian out of her misery with a mercy shot...

You're alone behind enemy lines, you've shot her friends and even if she does survive there's the fact that she's been raped by a Tezakian soldier. Do you think she'll ever look kindly upon another Tezakian after this?

This far behind enemy lines? Unload the gun and hand it to her. Keep the ammo.
Lets be honest, that explosion has drawn attention, and the Lian are going to be swarming this building in a matter of moments. The best thing for you is to be unarmed, away from the bodies, and comforting a wounded Lian when you're found.

>>253494
Assuming she understands the language, she knows he only killed one of them. If not, then all she knows is that he walked in, argued with the Tezakian rapist, and shot the fucker.
A Tezakian did that to her, but a Tezakian killed the one responsible too. If he treats her wound and comforts her then she'll remember the contrast very well.

Moezaki, think how you felt when you shot the Lian. You felt uncertainty, doubt, and weren't sure you were doing the right thing.
When you shot that Tezakian, though? It was certainty, conviction, and confidence in the justice of your act.
What they told you about the Lian being monsters was just propaganda; they're people same as anybody else. You saw a real monster today, and the shadowy horrors you imagined are comical wisps of smoke in comparison.
This is their city, and you were part of an attacking force. Your duty to defend your nation does not extend to aggressive actions.
Right not you are not soldier and enemy, you are two people. It's time to be a fucking person.
Help her.

TL;DR version: +1 vote to helping.

This is just... fucked up. Reality just shat all over your "brave little hero fighting the good fight" fantasy. You're a person. Killing other people. Why? So that a monster like that could survive to kill more, and torture this girl?

War fucking sucks. Get the fuck out. Don't stick around so long that you turn into that... monster. Save what's left of your soul while you still can.

The first thing that you need to do is remember VERY carefully: Did you see another Tezakian in the building? (i.e. was >>250717 correct or an art error)? If so, you need to be prepared.

Second, if there wasn't... the first words out of your beak need to be "You're safe now. The monster assaulting you is dead. He can't hurt you any more, and I won't hurt you either. I want to help you, if you'll let me."

... and see if you can go from there.

You came into this building to try to save a life. You killed someone to try to save the life of another who you believed was good only because they were the same species as you. This is where that kind of thinking gets you. You need to open your mind and realize that what you look like on the outside doesn't determine if you're a monster or a friend. It's what's under the skin that matters. Give the Lian a chance.

Moezaki: "It's okay.. the monster's dead. Don't worry, he'll never hurt you again."

She continues to cry, but silently. She's looking up at me.. I wish I knew what to do...

Why am I doing this? The Lians are the enemy, I fight for the Tezakians. I joined the army to kill the Lians in the name of my country, and instead I kill one of my own. A Tezakian. Now I'm comforting a Lian soldier!?

Depends on the site of the wounds, if a limb it needs to be elevated above the rest of the body and a compress put on it to stem the blood flow.

She also needs to be calmed yet avoid letting her go to sleep at she would likely slip into shock, or a coma, from which recovery is very difficult.

Basic first aid: If the wound is shallow and bleeding then it's about as clean as you're going to get it in the field.
Roll her onto her stomach and use some cloth to apply pressure to the site. Her tail is a total loss, so be thankful it was completely severed; arteries and veins that have been completely cut bleed far less and stabilize far faster, and if it wasn't totally severed you would have had to finish the job.

Her bloodloss shouldn't be too severe at this point and barring shock she should stabilize fine even without proper care, but shock is a severe enough risk that you should still tend to her wound.

Pull up a chair, sit down beside her, say soothing things to keep her calm, and touch her reassuringly on occasion. Although she might not know your language, tones of voice and body language and near-universal.

By putting that gun to her head and firing. She will die and the bleeding will stop pretty soon after that.

Or, if you for some reason want to keep an enemy alive and pass her int... oh wait you don't take prisoners of war. Guess the only option is sending her back to her own side, with a newfound and personal hatred of Tezakians. But I guess that's cool as well. First step is tying up the remnants of her tail tightly. That should take care of most of the bleeding. Then I guess you have to cross the frontline over to her side and hand her over without getting shoot. Or seen by your own side, they would probably hang you with piano wire if they saw you do it.

Anyway it's a limb. Her tail actually. So elevate it and try to immobilize it. That Lian has pants right? Take his belt and tightly tie it around the tail to stop the blood flow, and try to immobilize it perhaps with chair legs underneath the belt:

well, since you haven't yet ended her misery, I guess you can have her spend the rest of her life (the few moments she has left) watching you bandage up her tail and the rest of her body while she bleeds out and/or dies.

or, you can share heartfelt conversation with each other while you bandage her up and realize you're not so different after all then hold her in your arms while she sweats, convulses, and dies from infection.

either way (barring DM interference a miracle) she's done for. Considering you've cuddled her already, you'll probably lean towards option 2.

I rip off bits of clothing from wherever I can find it, mostly that from the Lian bodies, and try and bandage up the wound as best as I can. She twitches a little bit as I do it, but she doesn't object. I don't think I did it very well...

I pick up the Lian firearms and place them on the table. The wounded Lian has no weapons on her as far as I can see. I have collected a Lian machinegun, Lian SMG, Lian handgun, a Talon7 Tezakian handgun, and the Tezakian's bloody commando knife. None of the Lians have any spare ammo on them, maybe they left it elsewhere in the building. It might not be good to stick around here too long though, and I can't hold all of this stuff.

Lian: "W- Why are you helping me?" She's still crying a little. I don't know what to say. I still don't really know what I feel about all of this. The Tezakian was a monster, and the Lian a victim, but she's an enemy of my people! I'm betraying them every second I let her live!

Also, pick up the Lian SMG alongside with the handguns and the knife. That should give you enough firepower.

You should move out, Tezakian army is still advancing, you might be behind the frontlines now. Urban combat tends to be confusing as fuck regarding to who holds what. Anyway, have to get her back to her own lines, if your side finds her with you then they're either going to torture her for information and then kill her or just kill her. Probably the torture option, you taking care of her would indicate that she has information, would be no other reason for a loyal soldier to give aid to the enemy. Once they conclude that she didn't have valuble information then you're going to be in trouble.

And how are you going to even return to the battlefield after doing all this? Your going to be killing the comrades of who you saved, you will have to go through knowing that you betrayed your side by killing one of your own, even though he was indeed a monster how will the generals think of this? Don't fall asleep. You're in behind enemy lines, nobody knows you're there and you're most likely already put in under Missing in action. If they nab you then nobody will miss you or think to go look for you and try to rescue you.

Listen in on their conversation. Make sure she is somewhat ok, the doc is probably going to sedate her at some point, or she's going to fall asleep or get taken to another room. When any of those happen you just get your gear and then get out of there, back to your own lines to give them whatever intel you have, then you can sleep. Until then you need to stay awake.

+1 to listening in. Heck, if you're in a relatively safe location within the hospital (i.e. people can't see you / barge in on you), it might even be nice to be polite and talk /with/ them instead of just eavesdropping.

It would be good to talk to the Lian chick and find out more about what she and her people were doing in the building; does she know why the other Tezakian attacked? Have there been reports of other Tezakians like this?

I'll sneak around and listen in on their conversation..

Lian: "N-now I'm here.."

Big Lian: "... Maybe I should have a look at that wound."

Lian: "N- not right now.. thanks.."

Big Lian: "In a few hours then maybe. I'm sorry we don't have anything here to help with the pain, the soldiers took everything with them when they left."

Lian: "Don't worry about it.. it doesn't really hurt right now.."

Big Lian: "Why did you bring the Tezakian back? If someone finds him here.. I don't know what they'll do to me.. or to him."

Lian: "Don't worry, we're leaving in the morning. No one will ever know."

Big Lian: "You're going with him? I don't know what you're thinking right now, I won't stop you. Just be safe, I'm getting a drink."

He walks away. The Lian I saved sits there on the bed. She seems to have stopped crying.

Leave right now. Don't further endanger her, yourself or the doctor. Just go back to your own side. The only thing you will do here is bring more misery upon people, like your family. If you don't get back they're going to get a letter saying that you're missing in action and that everyone is very sorry. If you get caught they're going to get a letter saying you were a filthy traitor to your species and most likely be kicked out of their house.

Knock on the door frame and ask if you can come in.

If she says yes, go in and talk. Say you caught the end of her conversation from the door and wanted to know why she wanted to come with you. Remark that you're not even sure what you're going to do next. Perhaps ask her about what life has been like around here while the war's been on. Try to find out what she and the other people were doing in that building and why the nutso Tezakian might have attacked them (other than blind bloodlust). And thank the doctor for his hospitality and ask him if he has a safe room in an out-of-the way place where you can sleep for the night and not be discovered - either top floor (flying escape route?) or some room in the basement or something.

If she says no, let her know that you'll be in the other room, trying to get some rest, and she's welcome to come talk to you whenever. If the doctor is available, talk to him about those sleeping room options I mentioned above.

Moezaki: “Can I come in?”

Lian: “.. Yes..”

I put a wing on her shoulder and look down into her eyes.

Moezaki: “Are you okay?”

Lian: “.. Yes..”

I don’t really know much about this comforting thing… this still feels all weird.

Moezaki: “I heard some of the conversation. I want to know why you’re set on coming with me. The Lians will want me dead, and the Tezakians will want you dead. “

Lian: “I’ll risk it. You saved me from that Tezakian back there, I’ll help get you out of our territory.”

Moezaki: “Why were you all in that building instead of the hospital anyway?”

Lian: “After the evacuation a few hours ago, people left their things behind. The attack was completely unexpected, they gave me command over a small group of people and we was meant to search each building, one at a time to gather supplies. Food, water, anything we thought was useful. I didn’t think any Tezakians would get this close.. We were completely unprepared.”

Moezaki: “Are there any more beds around here, something more out of the way? I’d rather not be found by any other Lians.”

Lian: “I could ask.. But I’d rather you stay here..”

Wouldn't that put both of you in danger, not just you? I mean, if she insists you're not gonna have much choice without seeming sorta uncaring, but as is you're already a Tezakian in Lian city; being in the same room would make her a traitor too, if they came knocking. If you're elsewhere she can at least claim that she had no idea you were there.

Really depends on whether or not you wanna stick around and be a big, comforting mass of feathers or not.

"Alright, then."
Hit the lights, lay down on the bed, and pull her down so you can wrap your wings around her.
She doesn't want to be alone, and physical contact with somebody she feels safe around will help her sleep and ward off nightmares.
If she's not tired, then make up a sudoku for her to work on; working on non-linguistic logic problems messes up the creation of PTSD, which is a good thing.

Meant the country. Really far away places arent' really a realistic prospect of deserting and running away to. Should preferably be some place that can be reached fairly easily by either boat, flight or by land. Should also have a policy of letting deserters seek asylum there, would kind of suck to get there and then get tossed out, or even turned over to Tezakian authorities.

Dammit Moezaki! Just as soon as we were getting somewhere with you...

Keep in mind, if you inform them of the enemy presence in the area, they will expect YOU to be their eyes and ears.

Normally not a problem, but considering your loyalty issues, I know you would have an issue with NOT keeping your fellow soldiers updated if we thought it best.

It's in your best interest to stay down and 'dead' for the moment.

It's still pretty dark inside, I might not be able to see some things, but I guess it will make it harder for the Tezakians to see me.

I don't think they know my mother...

We usually fly interceptors to take out tezakian scouts, but they can also be used to take out tezakian ground forces. We've recently had them equipped with rockets to take out supply bases, and if they ever get any, some armoured vehicles.

However, they were training me to fly larger aircraft.

>>260411

They have enough pilots, and not enough officers. I have officer training, so they thought to put me in charge of a few Lians to make sure they arn't wasting their time. It's only temporary. To be honest I've kinda forgot everything, I just wanted to fly..

Whatever was at the door fled the moment I looked, I'm sure I saw something, and the door was closed earlier. Inside it's even darker! I can't really see anything in there from here. I'm not sure how any Tezakian could possibly see in there.

I- I'm frightened...
