"Hello, people of Modernia. I am your leader, President Begbavas Triston.

I come before you today to address an important issue regarding the recent government enforced limiting of travel and communication to the southern Modernian states. As I am sure many of you have heard by now, the disputes over working conditions in the factories to the south has quickly evolved into violent protests and riots from the workers.

It has come to our attention that many have been falsely led to believe that we have limited communications and travel to the south in order to hide our military’s supposedly “violent and unsavory” methods of dealing with the riots from the general public. As your leader, I would like to state that this is not the case. As a president dedicated to bringing a brighter future to our country, I guarantee that I would never resort to violence when a peaceful resolution exits as an alternative. I would like to stress the fact that these protests have grown unnecessarily violent, and our efforts to prevent travel to and from the south are to protect you, the Modernian people, from any harm that may befall you while we work to meet the worker’s demands.

When I inherited my father’s title of President, I swore to lead this country to greatness. To turn this humble island nation… Into a modern utopia. And keeping you safe, my fellow Modernians, is the most important part of doing that."

>>224685

Whoops, spoke too soon.

>>224687

Well... at least you're not all telling me to eat the flesh of the living or something like that. It's just... I don’t know, it’s kind of hard to concentrate with this kind of chatter in the back of my head. If I can’t stay focused when the General is here, I just know I’m gonna mess something up again. It’s nice to know that most of the voices are supportive though. That helps, I guess.

My augmentations? Well, its mostly standard stuff. My mental augs are supposed to make it easier for me to make split second decisions, but something’s wrong with it, and I’m hearing voices in my head instead. Well, it was only one voice at first, and I thought the doctors got rid of it yesterday… but it looks like rebooting the system split it into a bunch of voices or something.

I have low tier strength and speed augmentations, but like I said it’s pretty basic stuff. . It’s not like the General is here to access my augmentations or anything, they’re all pretty much standard augmentations when it comes to the military. The assessment is to see how well my body has adapted to JECT.

...I... I'm just gonna ignore that first part.

Oh, and JECT? Well, basically there’s a bunch of little islands all around Modernia where they build the military bases. Some of them are just normal bases for the Modernian army, but some of them are used for testing special programs and stuff like that. This one is for testing JECT.

They... actually never told me much about it, but from what I learned through training JECT I'm pretty sure is some sort of drug the Modernian government designed to increase combat proficiency in soldiers. The longer you train with it, things like making really accurate shots at moving targets and blocking punches thrown at you and stuff like that becomes like… second nature. It starts to reach the point where you can hit something a mile away without really thinking about it. But you have to start training with it young, or it can really mess with your head.

It works but... you get kind of dizzy at times and even after all these years... I'm still not really used to it. Last time we were demonstrating it to the General I messed up really bad...

I'm really want to do well this time. Me and the others have been here since we were little as the first batch of test subjects for JECT. We’ve spent our whole lives on this island, but if we can impress the General enough for him to call this project a success, I hear they’ll let us see the rest of the country. I’ve heard a lot of things from the soldiers about how great Modernia is, and I really want to get out there and see it for myself.

Maybe I’ll even get to go to the big cities… That would be really cool.

But either way, I better get going soon… General should be here in a bit.

So now where were we? Oh right, the exam. Fuck the general, don't pay any attention to him when he's there just shut out his presence.

Oh, the locked boxes? Well this is the training room, so they have all sorts of boxes full of training equipment arroun here. They keep most of the boxes locked though, since a lot of this stuff can be kind of dangerous. The only firearm we’re allowed to have outside of training is our pistol, and even that I prefer to keep with my other gear in my locker. Locker rooms are right next to our locker rooms anyway, so it’s not like it’s ever too far away if I need it. I just don’t like having my gun on me when it’s not necessary, and the base is secure enough that I don’t need to worry much about that.

Zachary opens up the training room door and peeks in again.
>“Oh, by the way, you better get your stuff in order, Matty. Helicopter’s on its way to the island, and it looks like an important helicopter. As in, the kind of important helicopter someone important like the General would be in.
Zachary closes the door.

The rebels are the good guys.

>“...Listen Matt. Modernia, the real Modernia, not the Modernia you hear about in Triston's broadcasts... it's different than you've been told. The cities and the skyscrapers that they show you are there, but only because the military forces the farmers and the factory workers to toil day and night for almost nothing in order to ensure Modernia makes the money to keep the cities alive. If the workers try to cry out for better food and shelter, the government refuses to listen. If the workers dare refuse to work… the government has them gunned down. If we want them to listen to our demands, we need something… or someone valuable enough to the government to bargain with. This is the only way for the people to get their message across, the only way for us to let Triston know that we won’t work ourselves to death while he deludes the upper class into thinking they live in some sort of paradise.”

General Kevlarr looks up at the Captain, who is pointing his gun in his face.
>“Modernia is on the path to become more than any leader before President Triston ever believed possible. Yes, the labor of the lower class may seem perilous, but in time the reward of your effort will be…”

>“Shut up. You promise the workers that their struggle will result in a better Modernia, but when? How many other promises has Triston made to us that have yet to be fulfilled?”

>“…”

The Captain looks over to Matt and the other trainees.
>“Students, I’ve been preparing you all for this… consider it your final exam. I need to get off this island with the General, but I’m not going to be able to do it unless you help me. Get us out of here alive, and I promise you that you will never have to see this island again…

>But first, you have to help me. You know can all trust me. I would never do anything to misguide you.

Shot the faggot. Because this plan isn't going to work and only get more people killed.

Because that's what happens in revolutions. Alot of fucking people dying. On both sides, and when it drags on it will only get more and more brutal, villages that will have been wiped out because they helped the other side at gunpoint. Rape, murder and looting.

And the government isn't going to give in just because the rebels have a general as a hostage. They can always get more generals, he's hardly important in the greater workings of the state. And if they give in now then they will appear weak and be expected to give in again in the future. They can't allow something like that.

So, for the sake of the greater good, shoot the captain right now.

Terra, another one of the trainees draws her gun and steps out of the line.

If I recall, we were getting of the island anyway as long as we impressed the General, and something tells me that saving Kevlarr's ass is sure as hell going to impress him. Overthrowing a dictatorship is best done by getting outside help from a powerful ally. That way you have the ability to isolate and neutralize elements in your own nation that would try to capitalize on the confusion. That the Captain is taking the General hostage with the intention of negotiating with the ruling regime tells us one thing: he doesn't have the firepower to deal with the regime. He probably doesn't have outside help either, which makes this one little revolution doomed to fail.

It may not be just, it may not be moral, but it is the right thing to side with the dictator now. You'll save more lives that way, and you'll endear yourself to the general. You may be able to put yourself on a fast track to getting into a position where you can do some real good, where you can become a political officer of one sort or another and use your influence to temper the worst excesses of the government. At the very least you'll be in a position to start getting outside help.

A political officer, not a politician. Political officers are basically "loyalty reporters." They're spies for the government who work normal jobs as well in managerial or other authority positions. A political officer in the military would hold full rank as whatever rank officer he is and additionally would have a secret police rank.

You need the freedom that being a member of the secret police would give you to be able to really maneuver yourself into a position to fix a broken system. For real world examples just look at the Soviet Union. Toward the collapse of the USSR and in the post-collapse Federation period it was secret police members, and ex-members, who took power and kept the country running in some fashion. They had the resources, information, freedom, and training to keep their opponents in check.

Our boy Matt here is already tapped to be an elite combat trooper. It's not hard to transition to secret police work from there, especially with a powerful ally like a general.

Matt's in a tough spot, and he's still very young. The Captain is Matt's direct commanding officer, hesitating when put into a hard position like this is normal. There's still time to take action and get into the General's good graces.

Remember, even after we deal with the Captain, there's the issue of the rebel attack here, and getting the General back to his command. There are going to be plenty of chances to make the General think highly of Matt.

And for what? Some small chance at helping some peasants by overthrowing the government?

>You’ll regret this. You all will.”

>"I told you to stay quiet. Everyone up the stairs. We need to get to the General's helicopter if we plan on getting off this island."

"What about Terra?"

>"Someone grab her, we need to take her with us."

"Are you sure, sir? Isn't she only going to be trouble for us if she doesn't want to go through with this?"

>"You kids are the first and so far the only Soldiers trained to use JECT in the entire Modernian army. But hey, maybe she can be turned to your cause with some good old fashioned brainwashing. So just knock Zach the fuck out and then knock her out and drag them both along.

Oh, and that captain is even more naive than he seems. Why would they have only one test squad? Five people is a far too low number to be able to make a proper assessment of capabilities and possible side effects. If every 5th subject gets chronic headaches and headvoices it's hardly something that makes for good soldiers, or if they go crazy like zach. With just 5 people as a test group you can't be sure if it's something that it's a 40% chance of insanity and headaches or if it's a 0.04% chance.

Hey look at that. That's some very impressive shaped charges right there. General is standing up close to the explosion and he's not violently cut in half by shrapnel.

Ok, ask the captain what kind of secondary escape plan he has. Prepare for double facepalm as he reveals that there wasn't one.

Although it should be possible to get off the island the same way the rebel forces that landed there got to the place. So onwards to the combat. Ask the captain for some proper gear and then shoot every soldier in the place. Loot it with your new rebel friends and then get out of there.

God damn. He's even more incompetent than he appeared. You really should have just shot him immediatly.

Ok, ambush time. Step one. Knock the general the fuck out. Tie him to something and shove a live unpinned grenade into his mouth, make sure that springy thingy that needs to be held down to keep it from exploding is down. Possibly the captain should stay near the general.

Then you and your classmates take up positions out of view from the exit/entry. Wait until enough of the enemy has come out into view and then strike. Shoot the ones outside and throw a grenade into the entry/exit to clear it and then go through after it to take down anyone left in there.

Then grab the general again, make sure the grenade doesn't go off. And make your way down to whatever docks this place has and steal a boat.

Then I suggest you shoot the general and captain. Dump their bodies in the ocean. Say fuck you to this entire conflict and go seek asylum at some place.

Alright, time to set up defensive positions, and send someone to verify that enemies are incoming. The General may be bluffing about the troops in order to make us wait here or panic or something.

Matt, shoot the General in the head. Give Terra to the Captain, tell the others to loot the bodies.
