I'll post this here instead of in the main thread so that the update post isn't cluttered with long descriptions. Basically, because Lahamu isn't a Magus, she doesn't really "get" magic, and can't learn very much.
There are no memorized spells or anything like that in the setting, even though it is very D&D-like. Creatures that are magical can essentially just cast spells all day forever (like the unicorn and liches and stuff) and everybody else gets tired when they cast or have to use components, one of the two. Lahamu will never have to use components, no matter what kind of magic she learns. Lahamu also cannot learn every spell or effect in any given school. She isn't very good at magic, so whatever she learns will be relatively minor. The effects listed are examples, not all-inclusive lists.
Types of Magic
Elemental/Nature Magic - This type of magic focuses on manipulation of the natural world. A practitioner could increase natural healing (so, not close up wounds on the battlefield, but not take as long to get better), create fog banks or rainclouds, manipulate wind, make fields fertile or fallow, and summon animals.
The most directly useful thing Lahamu could do with it would probably be to glide indefinitely by manipulating winds. Most of the spells will have to be prepared beforehand, and only a small number of effects can be simultaneously maintained.
Spirit/Shaman Magic - This type of casting revolves around binding and controlling spirits to create magical effects in the world. It can be used to give general skill and stat buffs to large groups of individuals not including the caster (So, a bonus to tracking or stealth, a small buff to all relevant combat stats), information gathering/scrying, magical alarms, and curses that debilitate or cripple a single enemy, or provide lesser negative effects to a large group of enemies. The crippling curses require something from the target to be cast. Shamans can also ward against possession or similar effects. There is a chance that the more powerful Shaman spells can fail, and affect the caster negatively instead of producing the intended result. Most of the effects will have to be prepared beforehand, and only a few can be simultaneously maintained.
The most useful thing for Lahamu would probably be scrying and alarms (she could automatically learn when enemies moved into a square, for instance).
Sorcery/Arcane Magic - This magic is about manipulating raw magical energy to produce physical effects on the fly. Blasts of magical energy, magical spell (and physical) shields, countering and negating other spells (although this isn't automatic - the more powerful the other caster, the less likely their spells can be countered).
The most useful things for Lahamu would probably be the spell defense. Even the spell defense wouldn't be foolproof - better casters would probably only have a single spell deflected, but minion casters (like the casters in the undead army) would have their effectiveness severely reduced. The attack spells would not be as effective as her breath weapon and natural fighting ability.
Divine/Priestly Magic- By subjugating oneself to a god, the caster can call on their supernatural power for magical effects. This magic has direct healing, touchcast damage, and strong stat buffs for the caster. Also, lots of different minor protection from negative effects for large groups of people (as opposed to stat increases, like Spirit magic), and direct damage to undead and demons. Lahamu is unlikely to learn Divine magic, as it requires subjugation to some deity. (she would also have to find someone who cast it).
Psionic Magic - This type of casting deals with creating illusions, possession, disorienting and fatiguing large groups of people, and strong protection from similar effects. Lahamu probably cannot learn Psionic magic, and it's practitioners are rare.
Alienism/Cosmic Magic - This type of spellcasting produces magical effects by manipulating the fabric of the universe. Transformation, polymorphing, minor terrain alteration, mitigating movement time, causing fear and mitigating ranged effectiveness are the focuses of the school. Most of the spells must be cast before hand, and are time consuming. People claim that using this type of magic is innately dangerous, and affects the caster over time.
Polymorphing can be used to permanently increase the effectiveness of Lahamu's troops (should she gain any) and the terrain alteration and travel time mitigation could be useful as well.
Innate Magic - Some supernatural creatures can produce unique effects that are not part of this schema. Some can produce unique effects on top of also having a casting school, and some creatures can have more than one casting school.
Necromancy isn't it's own school - each of the above have ways of creating undead or summoning demons. All of these profane uses have to be learned separately.
