Horns, huge ears, scales, fire-breathing, ice-breathing, claws, metal implants, magic powers, noxious smoke through crater-like pores across the back. You name it. Weird. Some people call those girls monsters, I call 'em "next".
>And would that even be a negative for you?
Hell no, it's the whole reason I'm askin'.

Okay, Dompag, I get it - you like 'em weird. But imagine this woman - she is normal. Completely normal. Excessively normal. Unsettlingly normal.

No matter where she is, she is never out-of-place. She fits in everywhere. The kind of person who nobody could say didn't belong there, no matter where she is.

What do you think? Is her excessive, unsettling normalcy weird enough?

Technically that would be an illegitimate profession, but I'll accept it. Of course, I'd advise against it unless you join Maolla's crew, since after you escape you're going to want to either keep your head down or pal around with somebody too tough to target.

Honestly? I was expecting you to plan on doing something like opening a bar or specialty club.

He he he. I guess you could call it a job.

>Oh come now. Just fire a blasted gamma ray burst and be done with it. The radiation goes through shit so you don't have to worry about lasting effects, and most anything just gets DEAD or vaporized.
Hihi, I gotta try that shit out. The collateral damage caused by such burst is low. The main reason why gamma-radiation is hazardous is because it ionizes shit in cells. High doses of gamma radiation ( such provided from nuclear weapon ) are lethal in quite nice range. They usually provide strange 'walking ghost' effect, where victim after first symptoms seems to be fine and dandy ( radiation killed bone-marrow ), but after few days they just die. Of course, sufficiently powerful burst will be able to burn and kill victim instantly. And lastly, you can defend against gamma-rays. 1 cm of lead reduces intensivity by 50%, and sufficiently thick layer of lead or other material ( such as depleted uranium ) can protect you from lethal doses. And using such weapon might be inconvinient against deep space spacecrafts, which already require heavy amounts of radiation-shielding.

>Point being? Nuclear weapons are awesome.

Yeah, I've never understood why aliens in general tend to snicker about nuclear weapons; they're useful and not as expensive or overly-destructive like anti-matter weapons. The only real downside to them is less bang for your buck in a vacuum, but missile weaponry in general seem to be a lot less useful up in spess.

>So, uh, what weapons are YOU using then?

They probably just use some technobabble weapons that work by extrapolating the tachyons through the deflector dish or something like that.

Nearly every able bodied member of my clan was killed by the waves of demons from the island, so I don't have anyone back home, no... I've since been primarily focusing on my mission.

>What are your tastes in men and/or ladies?

I suppose what I'd really be looking for in a fella is hot blooded, determined guy with a bit of a dark side, but who'd always be there to protect his friends, and would keep a strong tie to ancient traditions.

I dunno really. I'm still kinda new 'round here. I guess that little guy, Telwis, might be kinda my type. I heard about this time he pounced on a huge monster to save his friend, that's pretty heroic~. There was another little lizardy person, I think it was Kirska, I think she's pretty cool, I could see hangin' out with her. I saw this one guy with green hair, think it was Goldmoon or something. He reminded me of this guy I used to know in my clan. I could probably hang out with that guy, not date, of course, but hanging out every now and then? I hear someone named "Penji Tozzle" is supposed to have a lot of moxie, she might be fun to hang out with too!

Actually, that's incorrect. The tradition of hara-kiri was reserved solely for Samurai as part of the Bushido code, and was generally used in wartime or during more serious duels to avoid a failure which would result in falling into the enemy's hands, and thus, torture. It was as much a means of avoiding torture as a POW as it was of restoring honor. Admittedly, it was sometimes used in public and ritual executions or suicides in which honor had to be restored over a grievous breach (more than just a light duel), but in such an event I would still need a kaishakunin to deliver a kaishaku -- a decapitating strike -- and end my suffering. But without such a second, I would be limited to seppuku in the more painful jūmonji giri style and that is a level far beyond even me.

But the idea that it is a requirement due to any sort of combative failure is misplaced, even if I were a Samurai, which I am not.

Yes, and the Bushido code was also made up by the Imperial Japanese government in the early twentieth century to boost the Japanese fighting spirit. Well, it's more like some dude made an honest (if retarded) mistake in 1905 about the samurai being honorable and stuff, and the government just went with it.

In fact, the European code of chivalry was the one that allowed for honorable suicide, while the samurai fought for money and stuff.

We did no mean to offend, and indeed thought that you had already been exposed to other depictions of tanuki before.

A more practical question, then:
If you wore armor in your true form, then changed into another creature that did not have armor, would the armor protect your true self from injuries taken as your assumed form?

For example, would the bracers you wear in your quest protect your arm if it were scratched while in disguise?

I've seen the statues, and heard the stories, but I didn't think anyone would actually think those were true, I mean, they're just fairy tails after all.

>If you wore armor in your true form, then changed into another creature that did not have armor

When I change shape, I basically become what ever it is I'm turning into for all intents and purposes. Armor I'm wearing doesn't transfer over to what I turn into, however, armor worn by the creature or object I am turning into is copied, and linked to a corresponding article of clothing, or body location. If that makes sense.

Oh yes, I have. You see, after our battle I realized the power and dignity that a righteous and well-disciplined life of virtue could offer. I renounced my demonic origins but to keep my vow I returned to my evil masters and delivered your message, then told them I was cutting all ties. Of course, they were furious, and in my already-weakened state I was barely able to fight my way out alive.

But now I have begun learning all there is to know about the culture I once terrorized, seeking in vain wish that one day I may live in even the faintest shadow of the dignity and glory that noble warriors such as yourself bask in on a daily basis. That is all I wish now.

Alas, I know that, as a foul Oni, I have no hope of ever experiencing such a thing. No, my body will simply turn to ash and scatter to the wind's domain at the end of the pointless and hollow existence my kind is forsaken to live.
Such is rightly my fate for being such a creature of evil. But I suppose I have nothing else, so I will strive every day for absolution and harmony I know will never come.

You know how many of these lovely adventuresses I'd love to have the pleasure of knowing? Practically all of them. You know how many I've gotten the pleasure of knowing? Basically one. And it was Maolla. That's like winning a "participant" award in the Olympics. No, that's like winning an award for watching the Olympics.

I am trying to groove here and you guys are on my back like I'm the goddamned devil himself and my dick's made of acid. Fuck you guys! I just want to have a good time and let some others enjoy the same. Why does that make me such a fucking villain?

Quit that shit already!

It's really just a running gag with us, damn woman, you dense as fuck.
It's just a bunch of stupid jokes and some dumb smug faggots trying to get into your head, each pretending that in some shape or form that your responses are meaningful, despite your entire existence is that of a fictional character. In the end, your nothing but a walking, tsundere sex symbol with an ass the size of two colliding planetoids. You're not a person, at most, you're a sociopath. You have no real understanding of people or emotions, treat little individuals like Jehral like a toy with no real respect, and require a chorus of narrative voices to feel and make sense of the world for you. The most of anything you've shown is some guilt for burning dozens of soldiers alive, something you only got over because of our help, and having identity troubles that are similarly being solved by us, not you.
If it takes a fag like me to point this out for you, it just proves another fucking point. You can't improve on your own and rely on a bunch of idiots on the internet to explain everything for you. The only solution we can actually come up with is "Man, this bitch needs to get laid. Seriously."

actually, given that Rynh seems to get by just fine in the interim points between chapters it mostly seems like she's fine on her own and that it's /quest/ that fucks everything up with her.

It's not our fault your plots are all based on deception, completely silly, or both.
We tell everybody everything all the time.

Here, let me try something:
Hey! Kensuyata! Dompag faked being an Oni so he could get close to you because he thinks you're very attractive and desirable! Are you interested?

start with the easier women and once your technique improves maybe try for some of the more reserved women

To be fair it's not like she ever actually does anything besides argue with /quest/ as far as the relationship stuff goes, which is an endless oscillation between "woe is me I'm alone and I feel shitty about myself" and "no way am I going to do any of that, quit bugging me!"

And as far as non-relationship stuff goes... we sure are doing a whole lot of that lately, huh? :V

Dompag never claimed to be an Oni. Her general request for opponents listed ogres as a valid challenger, which he is. And now, humbled in defeat, he has learned more of his opponent's ways and seeks to make amends with her.

So he likes props and exaggeration. Give the guy a break.

Blah blah blah blah blah. I'm a big whiny baby who likes to yammer about how important he is. Blah blah blah.

So maybe I'm a little jaded sometimes, but that's part of the job, and it's not like I'm ever actually hurting Jehral. It's called roughhousing. It's a show of affection, but maybe you were sheltered by overprotective parents and now you can only express your aggression by being a whiny ass and see any sign of physical aggression as negative and frightening, despite it's actual intent.
See? I can do it too.

I guess I should stop being so mean and give everyone positive affirmations of their self-worth so we can grow together as a loving community... Blech.

Well I don't like you. Or Maolla. Some of us (only truly speaking for myself here) think that sex should be something special rather than just some casual form of pleasure that can or ought be experienced as much as possible with as many partners as possible. But you take it even further; you feel it okay to DECEIVE in order to accomplish your ends, and that makes me REALLY not like you. So yeah, I'll continue trying to foil your plans and delighting in any and all of your failures. Ptthhbt.

>>343099
As for you, you're not a sociable person but that's fine, and continuing the sex-isn't-everything gimmick I've got going, well it's good that you aren't trying to work out your issues by fucking everything that wanders by. However, you still ought be nicer to your friends. Sometimes people don't understand certain methods of showing you care for them, and it'd be such a shame to lose Jehral or someone as a friend just because they don't understand the meaning behind what you do.

Why I like cock-blocking Dompag, (Apart from it being hilarious) is because I obviously disagree with his deceptive methods.

>>343084
Y'know, if you quit with the complex lies, maybe you would get some more action. I mean, think about this; if you had been more honest and less fake with Kensuyata, you could actually be getting closer to her, as opposed to us throwing a spanner in your works because you lie. A lot.

Man, I doubt Kensu would go for the truth. Hell, I bet she'd admit she wouldn't go for the truth either. Probably pissed she got lied to and would rather have the truth.

But Dompag, a man needs to understand when he'll never tap a lady, even when he has all the confidence and determination in the world, you still fucking know when you have no chance. I've never actually seen his charms and fancy schemes actually work, so I think all his talk about the women he's conquered is rubbish. He's probably only been with women that were idiots or completely up and front about their casual sides.
Unless this is really all about the journey and fun and games instead of the destination then Dompag go ahead. If these crazy schemes are fun as hell, more power to you.

Right, not just lying, but constructing a complex network of falsehoods to appear to be entirely someone different, for the sole purpose of having sex with someone, with multiple different lies to get laid with different people, it totally okay, and because he hasn't hurt anybody yet, we should just let it fly, "Dompag you adorable scamp!" and all that. Uh-huh.

All right, all right. Let me clear the goddamn air in here.

First off, I'm not in the habit of making webs of lies to trick girls into bed. I may have a mischievous side but I generally only use it as an in to get to know the girls better so I can make my real move. When I lied about my status to Tiny Deer Oken, it was to get closer to her so we could have open communication. I wasn't going to go immediately from letters to her bedroom, even if I wanted to. And speakin' of, I do know when to cut my losses because as sweet as that deer is I had to do it then. And I took some damn risks, too! And I totally came clean with it, too. Fat lot of good it did since she couldn't even hold onto the damn letter.
It's just a lot of the girls around here are hard to even start on because they live in another fucking dimension, or they hate ogres, or some stupid shit.

>>343110
Maolla. You know I would never disrespect you. All I was saying was that it was easy to get in your spacepants. And I only said that because it's a fact you openly flaunt. Otherwise, I'd never say something like that about a girl!
And yes, I am jealous. But even without getting into gender politics, you've got the body for it. You think it's easy for me trying to get around looking like this? I'm a fuckin' Ogre for god's sakes.

>>343100
Kensuyata. I've actually been quite honest. I am an ogre and never claimed otherwise. I only used the term Oni because that's what you called me. And as for my horn, I just thought it looked neat -- never claimed it was real. But hey, I could argue semantics all day.
The truth is yes, I did accept your challenge simply for a chance to get closer to you. I mean, look at you. You're the very image of righteous fury and noble dignity. And me -- well like I said, I'm a damned ogre. So I studied, and I did my best to learn, but what kind of a chance does a guy like me have with someone like you? None. No chance. No hope.
The only way our two types'll ever come into contact is on the field of battle. So even if it means gettin' bloodied and bruised, it's all I can ever hope to get.

'Course, now all my cards are on the table thanks to these pricks who don't know what an aside is, so I guess the best I can hope for is another ass-kickin'.
