a friend of mine wanted to ask some questions about BlakeQuest on this board

I'm still trying things here. so combat scenes, Eden and other things in this quest may not be perfect.

I'm not quite sure where I'm going with this quest, I have yet to specifie a main quest. But through trial and error I've concluded what it wont be:.. Although it does contain Romance, It's not porn quest, this was confirmed immediately after during the sex scene, since I'm incompetent as an artist.

BlakeQuest is sorta like a beta. Really just building up Quest experience for my other quests.

But yah... I'm gonna log off for a few days. I'm not feeling my self, and I might start a new quest... A short one, probably Guss Quest. It'd be like a prequel to Qwern quest.

I'm sorry to tell you, but all quest experience is not good quest experience. Knowing how to make a quest half the board actively avoids is not very good preparation for a real quest, unless you do the exact opposite of what you did before.

my goal exactly. Creating a "bad" quest was an accident. An accident I will not reproduce. this is what is called trial and error.

More over to insure that my next Stories don't fail as much it would be nice to get constructive criticism, in order to help me learn. This is not an excuse to troll or rage, just help out a fellow artist.

I already know about the sex scene problem. But could you point out some other reasons why you don't like my quest?

I think people are being overly harsh. That is all.

I don't think people are generally overly harsh on this site. They hardly complain about any quest at all.

>>339621
Maybe it's partially your trial and error tactic that's responsible for the circumstance, that your quest is not working for me.
You mash too many genres that just don't work well together in an attempt to test, which one works best for you. While a reader generally will accept the most obscure plot point as long as it fits the genre, if you combine too many genres and stack too many different elements in a short amount of time it might put the reader off.
This means that if you keep combining ear sex, fire magic, memory shards, shonen style battle confrontations, slice of life drama, etc. the outcome doesn't work - at least not for me.

Also your trial and error tactic creates the problem, that you can't establish what kind of world your quest takes place in, because you are trying out different settings. When your character suddenly can use magic it should have been established from the beginning, that using magic in this world is a possibility (unless you're writing in a setting where that's assumed automatically - I wouldn't have any complains if it would be suddenly revealed, that some people can cast spells in a high fantasy setting for example).

Those were some of the reasons why I stopped reading this quest in the middle of the first chapter, but since you still have some players who seem to enjoy it, maybe those points raised by me are not universally loathed.

Thank you. I see my problems now, That being said aside from the combat style. (Because BlakeQuest was supposed to have action in it.) I'm pretty sure where I'm going now.

Basically, my plan from here on out is as followed... In BlakeQuest, You (Eden) attempt to uncover the dark and mysterious past of Blake Steelheart, as well as your own. As a side story, Blake eventually has to choose a faction from a small list, not only to find out more about him self but also to help save/destroy/neutralize the world/human race/all life on the planet. (this is a difficult choice. fortunately you only need to make a choice this big one or twice.)

Adorned with character development and the occasional fight scene. Blake quest also offers a sorta custom character system, since Blake has no real personality the choices you influence him to take alter who he is. as well as the occasional memory fragment. (the fact that you don't have to watch them changes how Blake develops.)
>>
No. 29832 ID: 412c0b

as a resume: fights and self discovery.

also, I'd want to develop on the world since most of my other plans for quest take place in the same world. I've tried hinting towards some of the facts of life in Terramore, but it woulds seem I'll have to be more direct. As you may have noticed I love writhing long walls of text that explain the various races and species of Terramore. But I understand if no one likes reading them.

Once again thank you for your criticism.

Personally I avoid your quests because you mashed sergals in ham-handedly, one of my worst pet peeves.

If you want to know how to mash sergals in with elegant grace, go read CBSF.

Of all the things to avoid Blake Quest for, getting mad at non-canon Sergals is hilarious given that Mick can't keep Vilous canon straight.
>>
No. 29843 ID: 412c0b

>>339636

Yes. I understand why I should not use sergals. In fact I have decided to avoid them in my stories completely. I simply do not understand them enough to think I may use them for but one instant. the idea that I could was a mistake of height magnitude. Blakequest does, how ever posses one particular red furred sergal faced individual that was unfortunately identified as sergal but will not be remembered as such. Your statement and prior statements were real eye openers and I thank you greatly.

also, unfortunately CBSF is an unfamiliar acronym to me. please explain or post a link to with I could read it. Thank you.

Oh, it's not so much non-canon sergals as just throwing them in for shits and giggles/your fetish. Why the fuck do you have to make a sergal Pokemon trainer exactly??

Because both sergals and pokeymans are popular.

Okay so
I'm not very active, and I only read a few quests

But in my honest opinion, this quest is just so convoluted and full of just so much thrown-in stuff

I'm not some kind of quest-judge or whatever but it just seems like this quest doesn't have any idea where it wants to go, I guess.

I agree.
>>
No. 29967 ID: 412c0b

>>339711

yeah, I've been struggling to push the quest in some direction lately.

You see, as for Blake quest its self, the idea was that an array of possible outcomes would be possible and Eden would be able to choose WHERE the quest leads Blake. That's why I made a lot of characters for /Quest/ to socialize with and eventually chose and pick favorites. I had planned a possible 25 ending and am willing to end with neither one of them, the quest can go in five possible directions and if willed you can forge new ones.

I should have been more obvious about this, I just assumed that letting Eden choose the main quest in chapter one would do the trick, but I was mistaken. (although, for a moment the main quest was really to crush mountains and obtain boats.) Soon the real main quest should be easy to grasp and define.

also, here's a little tip. Blake is not the main character. Eden is.

Okay, that's another thing-

I know it's a discussion and all, but it seems like you're the only one discussing, really

Plus, you really shouldn't like, tell the readers what you have in store, or what's coming up next.
That'd be like if a webcomic author telling his viewers exactly what's going to happen in the next issue/page/strip/etc.

Hey now. Look BlakeQuest got a bad reception but the guy's trying his darnest to improve himself and create something people will enjoy. Can't y'all at least respect that? This is the correct place for announcements and to give/receive criticism, so I see no problem in anything going on in the thread. I still think people are trying way too hard to make a pariah out of this guy who is doing his best to be open to making a better story.

He didn't say exactly what he was planning. He just gave a general outline. He didn't give away anything major; there's plenty of room for an interesting story.

Unless there were some deleted posts that I haven't seen, it looks like everyone is being generally constructive here.

It's very clear that not many peoples like BlakeQuest (let alone anyone) and I understand why. But I have a question: Is it me that you dislike? Or just my quest?

More over if I make a new quest, will it get boycotted just because I made it?

I like it?
Though, I guess in the words of a well known comedy group
GET ON WITH IT
(as in, start focusing on the plot. We're kinda just walking around and stuff...)

I have nothing against you as a person or an author.
The reason I dislike BlakeQuest (a dislike I haven't been vocal about) stems purely from the quest itself (f.eks, the infamous ear-sex scene).

That is to say, I won't ignore another quest you may decide to make, simply because of my dislike of BlakeQuest.

Well, it started off alright enough, I'll admit, but it just seemed to lose a lot of steam fast. It seems like the whole thing has ADHD and can't focus on a central plot, or even -why- we are doing anything. Too many things are being introduced after the other, but that's just me.

Also the random sex scene was a BIG NO NO. I mean if you want to throw in some minor fanservice here and there that's fine, but straight up sex was just a bad idea.

Another thing would be a switch in the artstyle; it just adds to the whole inconsistency of the whole thing.

In all, it seems BlakeQuest was made to cater to
the supposed likes of others rather than being
your own thing.

I doubt anyone would boycott you if you made another quest, though.

yeah I wasn't sure where I wanted to bring this quest either, but I think I know it now.
as for the sex scene... yeah I agree with you, crappy sex scenes belong on other sites, besides what's the average age group here anyways?
the art style can be explained quite simply. I did almost all of chapter 1 with a mouse, I don't own a pad. Eventually I just got pissed at it and started drawing everything by hand. But yeah it sorta clashes when you read it, I'm sorry. I'll avoid changing to drastically.

that being said thank you very much for your support. I feel very sad these days and I feel that the world hates me. But it makes me feel better to know that you don't all hate me for messing up once or twice. Thank you :)

I'm going to go ahead and reinforce what the previous posters have said. Sex in a quest isn't necessarily a bad thing, the trick is pulling it off TASTEFULLY. Like a simple fade to black. Keep it cleverly censored (like the most recent update to Oren), and don't get too freaky with it.

Also, here's a little tip that could help. Make yourself a list. On this list you will write down specific important plot points you want to have happen, in chronological order. Not every single thing you want to have happen in the quest, just the really important stuff, like going to Town X, or acquiring magic gubbin #4. What happens in between these different plot points is the suggestions that come from your readers.

And it's been iterated on this board time and time again, and it will continue to be re-iterated: Have a planned end goal for your quest. This way you have something to work towards instead of "well derp what do we do now?"

This may seem a bit random, but I kind of liked the original art style better. It was more distinctive, and the thicker lines made things seem a bit more solid. The current style is good too, I just prefer the old one a bit.

Back when it was computer generated or when I was using a black pen to outline everything?

I meant during the early parts of the first topic.

Actually, looking back on it, it wasn't as good as I remember it. The more recent parts are better drawn.
