A student of a school of power and triumph at any cost seeks a powerful tome that will allow him reign over magic beyond his own ken.

A student of a school of noble-hearted men and women seeks to become as powerful as her idol and teacher, and seeks out a place where she may train against deadly foes towards this goal.

Their fates are intertwined, but who shall we begin our narrative with?

The boy with no magic, or the girl with a noble heart?

The characters will meet at the middle of Chapter Zero. You will decide who to control each chapter, unless you go three chapters with one character, then you'll switch automatically. DEMOCRACY!

Then it's time to kick the gods in the nuts. Take over the entire dimension/plane. Then onto the next one and so on until Marcus is the god of everything that has ever existed or will ever exist. Then I guess play around a bit with mortals and mess with their lives.

I'm voting that we switch perspective to the girl. Our boy Marcus might seem to be the brains so far, but Samantha may have something to offer besides her 1337 fighting skills, and we may be able to improve those.

In any event, Marcus seems intelligent and reasonable enough to accept good advice wherever it hails from, yea?

Don't answer that.

guys let's take a step back from the influence thing and think for a moment. think we should all be on the same page with these. we need to focus on one thing at a time and have only a few be influencing posts. such as unless you feel you have written a VERY convincing argument as to why she should change in that way then don't make it an influencer.
>>
No. 22306 ID: 339da9

How about the suggestion crowd agrees on one to three main influence goals for Samantha at the moment rather than everyone trying to push individual agendas and generally making a mess?

So far the list of suggestion include these:
- Social hangups around nudity (Milestone reached!)
- Attraction towards Marcus
- Fearlessness/calm under pressure
- Overall Self Confidence

I think we should keep working on the social hangups against nudity since we've already started, it's helping Samantha survive and it's really fun having her run around naked :3. I don't think the Teacher's Brooch would actually try to get Samantha attracted to Marcus. It doesn't make sense and pushing her that way will only lead to loss of influence I think... Perhaps we could focus on getting Samantha to build trust in and gain an Understanding of Marcus instead? Her novice paladin outlook on good and evil differs greatly from Marcus' neutral worldview. For example we've seen how he sees necromancy and the undead as just another field of magic, but Samantha thinks of them as evil.

Regarding the fearlessness and self confidence, perhaps we could combine them into one just the one influence area? Something like Professional Attitude. After all the brooch IS meant to be teaching her how to be a better fighter.
>>
No. 22309 ID: 97cb33

i am unsure she needs self confidence. she seems pretty competent. only time she messed up is when nudity was involved.
>>
No. 22324 ID: e67080

See, the reason I vote self confidence is not because she is incompetent. However, shes been seemingly shy in more than just the nudity aspects, not exactly the most forthcoming about the particulars of being a paladin and such.

Also, her confidence should be a more 'universal' sort of boost. If shes confident about herself, she should have less issues about the nudity as she believes in he decisions she makes about such things. It should also improve her in combat and such indirectly as such.
>>
No. 22326 ID: 97cb33

>>332124
hmmm, you raise a good point.

fearlessness is bad though. having no fear is completely different then bravery. having no fear will result in bad things, as she would not think anything is a bad idea.
>>
No. 22330 ID: 2c53c2

>>332126
That's conflating fearlessness and boldness. Being fearless does not mean that you are incapable of determining what is dangerous, it means that you're not going to get demoralized just because things look bleak. Think paladin immunity to fear in D&D- it doesn't mean that they charge suicidally into combat, it just makes them willing to face terrible odds to achieve their objective. It also allows rational (or at least calm) rather than emotional assessments of dangerous situations.

I consider this a highly desirable personality trait.

Second choice would be overall self confidence, which is generally good. This is with the reservation that we shouldn't push it too far, because overconfidence is a flaw that has killed many, many otherwise great people, however.

Third are social hangups, just because it seems like we're going to make her be naked all the time anyway and she might as well not freak out about it. But it has little practical use aside from that, and my impression is now that we've already shifted her personality a little in that direction, which is probably enough.

Fourth is attraction to Markus, because screw that, it can evolve naturally or not, pushing her into it is a bad plan.
>>
No. 22332 ID: 97cb33

>>332130
i meant up her courage rather then make her fearless.
and you need to keep working something all the way too 100 or it doesn't stick, the effects would slowly deteriorate until she was back to normal. the milestone amounts put up more resistance but they will slip too.
and it's social HANGUPS about nudity, not desire to be nude. so it would simply make her not care about it not turn her into a crazy nudist.
>>

Okay so uhm. Regarding Marcus and spell school costs.

I'd really rather have this simpler than all those crazy percentages that I posted. So uh. The less work for me, the more interesting spells and stuff I can make for you. So, I'm going to offer some options, in varying levels of complexity.

>five difficulty system
Basically, this sorts schools by five 'difficulties'. These are Banned, Hard, Normal, Easy, and Mastered.

Banned costs 12 times as much as normal to cast. Hard is twice as much. Normal is baseline. Easy is half as much. Mastered is a third.

Right now, Marcus is a Weaver, so he can cast Weavecraft spells at a third of their normal cost! yay! But other schools might be harder on the Luck!

> Three difficulties

This is like Five Difficulties, only more simple: Hard, Normal, and Mastered. Hard is three times as much, normal is baseline, Mastered is a third.

>Three, two, one

This system affects chances of arcane failure instead of cost.

Hard spells create THREE ROLLS to determine failure. each one counts seperately, and multiple failures stack. Normal spells, as of this change, create TWO, while specialization brings it down to one.

This is what I offer you. Pick an option for School Specialty System.
>>
No. 24428 ID: 56dc25

>>334225
The three/two/one concept that you present would be better represented as a roll and keep system, I think, if the aim is to change what's likely to blow up on you. That is, roll three dice, keep worst/middle/best depending upon what kind of spell it is.

And perhaps you could stack the five difficulty system and the arcane failures system. That is, banned spells both cost a ton to cast AND are all but certain to blow up in your face; mastered spells both cost far less AND are far less likely to go horribly wrong.

If we're just voting and not having a game system design discussion, go with five difficulty.
>>
No. 24429 ID: 127c1a

i think five difficulty systems is best.

Samantha can now specialize in one of her Forms, or one of her Styles. These specializations, similar to Marcus's School focus, offer variant boons and benefits, at the cost of some minor weaknesses or gaps in ability.

Specializing in Forms allow for some of the benefits of the Form to 'leak' into her normal body, without affecting her appearance. With enough specialization, she will take on the subtype of the creature, with all the benefits that would bestow.

Specializing in a style allows for better manuevers, ability with a weapon, and overall defense, as well as unlocking other, more complicated Styles. Specialization in a style ultimately allows for Samantha to become a powerful master of the blade.

Besides that, we need to decide who will be the main character of the next chapter.

My bad!

>Stances are nonmagical abilities that can be used at any time. even during Forms.

>Sylvan Strike Formula: Allows for increased evasion, as well as heightened peircing power.

>Kurduz Sheild Formation: Allows for increased defensive ability and stronger smashing damages.

>Taunting Torguz: Causes enemies to attack you more often.

Styles are unlocked by combining specialties in Stances. A 'point' in, for instance, Sylvan Strike Formula and Kurduz Sheild Formation will unlock four new stances to use and one Style.

Styles are all wildly different, but are active at all times. They might allow you to do things you never could before (like reflect magic with a sheild, or boost the power of a magical weapon through willpower) or augment what you can do now with boosts (enduring more pain)

My apologies for the confusion! And because I'm in a helpful mood, here's the Forms as well.

>Forms are special and require the Teacher's item to use. Each enemy who is slain more than three times grants you a new Form, based on creature type. Unless otherwise stated, you must be unarmored to use a Form, though weapons can be used. You have the following Forms:

>Stone Sentinel: Roots the user in place, boosting defense and damage reduction capability. May be used with any armor and weapon. '

>Slithering slime: Allows the user to become truly transparent, aids their stealth and unarmed strikes.

>Obstinate Ooze: User becomes slightly see-through, and gains a large amount of damage reduction, as well as a damaging touch.

>Striking Skeleton: User gains an immense amount of striking power with bladed weapons, at the cost of bone fragility.

While I do appreciate the benefits of going for form, it seems like that's more about giving us power that we can already access more of the time, rather than providing actual improvement. Going for styles, though, has a lot more potential for getting more badass.

Put me down for Marcus, and Sylvan Strike. I would expect that a focus on that style would make it better adapted to our sword shape and balance.

>Intelligent Item Experiance

As they are used or spend time with intelligent beings, Intelligent Items gain power.

This can be expended for permanent upgrades:

1: Autoch can increase his intellect, improving how often he can advise a situation, and making his advice more useful.

2: He can improve his Use (in this case, sharpness).

3: He can develop a random Wondrous Use, giving him a spell-like ability that can be used up to 5*level per day (currently, 10 is the uses of Wondrous power.)

Due to the reasoning behind the choice, certain information will be revealed.

Please know that this is Spoiler Material and read at one's own risk.

Angelic beings of Law and Good invaded the mind of Samantha in order to assist her in combating an 'evil force' that she perceived. This invasion cut her off from the voices in the amulet. The voices were only heard by Urian, a powerful being of Good and Law, who thought that your complaints, while plaintive and forceful, were ultimately irrelevant in guarding their "chosen child".

However, in time, Samantha's spirit reasoned with the spirits of Law and Good, and under the pretense of converting Marcus to Good means to Good ends (as opposed to Evil means to Good ends) they allowed her reign of her body.

First bit of news!

Farmer is our new artist! Hopefully we won't have to switch again. Give him a warm welcome. And give another warm welcome to all the people who joined out of interest of this art!

Now, for what I'm ACTUALLY updating for. In the world of RAM vs GAC, Humans, Angels, Demons, Halflings and Orcs are all present.

It is common knowledge that Elves, Dwarves, and Kobolds are mostly extinct due to massive changes to the world's surface and parts of the crust.

Henceforth, I'd like to ask what sort of intelligent races you would like me to include in addition to these current ones. They'll be a bit different due to how the setting works, but I'll try to stay true to 'general' fluff.

Voting closes in a week! Enjoy yourselves!

Let's see more of the races first, and more of the setting. Then we can work on adding more things in the context of that. More fluff on the upheaval, see some of the orcs, maybe a remnant of the other races.

Actually why don't you just start posting more of the setting fluff here?

Angels -

Angels are beings of Light and Law. Elemental in being, the least of their species (Pictured: a Lantern Archon) can be summoned as Familiars by those aligned with the forces of Law without the need for the specialization or materials that Mages use. Paladins, for instance, often are good friends with a Lantern archon.
Mages can still summon them as well, but they need to have a Light Elemental Core - A hard one to come by - and be mentally aligned to consider it.
Archons are ordered by size and complexity. Among "Tiers" by size, and the Tiers themselves by complexity. The least complex, Lanterns, are spirits of Light that offer advice to those who can summon them.

37541

Greater angels, like the Armor Archon, (Pictured) are more intelligent, less naive, and as one walks up the tiers, militaristic. Order seeks to spread itself, and Archons seek to do this through their servants, the Paladins. Most Archons influence the Paladins into bringing others into the 'fold'. They are frustrated by mortal whim, and more and more higher tiers seclude themselves in Celestia, the golden, ordered land of Law.

Devils -

Devils are beings of Darkness and Chaos. Much like their cousins, the Angels, Devils can be summoned by those who are aligned with them - cultists. Aligned with Chaos as they are, Devils have hundreds if not thousands of forms. In fact, demons only have a single trait they all share - their golden, shining eyes. Otherwise, they are clouds of gas that can solidify into many forms. Lesser Devils, such as Imps (Pictured) use this ability to torment and play tricks with mortals, which entertains them a great deal. Like angels, lesser devils can also be summoned by mages, with the use of a Core of Darkness. These are less rare than those of Light, but Imps enjoy 'joking' with their master in small ways.

Devils are segregated by Stength and Skill. The stronger a devil is, the larger thier mass and the more they have to work with - but not all Devils can work their form into many versions, such as Lord Thomp, a Greater Devil whose preferred form is a large, dense cube (pictured). The more skilled Devils are the leaders of their size category.
Most Imps are very skilled, necessitated by the environment of Infernus, and so they take the form of weapons for their masters if summoned... and many imps can work together to create greater constructs of hardened darkness.
