The Fabled Tome of Spirits; a legendary item that all adventurers covet in their own ways. It is said that the book exists where no adventurer is able to set foot in, that it exists in another plain altogether. No person left knows the truth. What every person knows is that all that have journeyed for the book soon met with tragic ends. But there is always a chance...

The countryside in which you had lived in was peaceful enough, but something inside you just yearned for adventure. Sometimes you helped till the fields and plant the seeds, sometimes you stayed inside, studying the ways of the slayers. You grew in knowledge as you grew in age, broadening your vision of the world further than your family could possibly imagine. Soon you grew weary of the town you grew up in and, on your 16th birthday, you decided to try to go out into the world to find your fortune.

Knowing that your parents would never understand, you plan to sneak out into the forest and make way to the nearest city. There, you will attempt to find a group of adventurers, or a "party", to join.

First things first; What is your gender and mane?

((I'm guessing that everyone is fine with those choices? I'm not sure about tentacles though...))

Ah, yes...Frederick. It's quite a long story on how your parents named their daughter Frederick, but that is neither the time nor place to say so. For now, let's just say it involved copious amounts of alcohol and three mules. And a squid.

You, Frederick, are awake in the dead of night, as it seems that people can only steal away in the dead of night in the stories. You don't want to really deviate from tradition, do you?

Now then, you already have job chosen; a Scholar, but you can choose to change it later if you wish. For now, you put on the uniform of Scholars; A simple white, collared shirt, a tan vest, and black trousers underneath a light, flowing robe. Your weapon, a Simple Tome, is attached to your wrist by a chain.

You wonder what to get next in your simple room. It's not large: Big enough to hold a simple desk, cot, and set of drawers. There is a pack on the ground next to the bed, a parcel of papers and pens on the desk, and clothes in the drawers. You get the feeling that there's more in the room and around the house, but it does not seem sound to wake your family.

Extra set of clothing, bundle of papers (but write out a note telling them you've gone to seek your fortune), pens & detritus, and put on your drawers, you harlot.

((Isn't a detritus a dead animal?))

That seems right, an extra set of clothes, paper and pens, the note...But why would you put drawers on top of pants? You do so anyway, admiring how it looks like you put two pairs of pants on.Of course, you fold the drawers and pack them in the pack, for safe-keeping.
>>
No. 73305 ID: ddd49b

The note is quick and to the point:

>Dear Mother and Father, I have run away to seek my fortune in the world. Please do not look for me. I wish you lock. Love, Frederick

You place the note on your desk, where it will be prominently shown.
>>
No. 73313 ID: ddd49b

As it seems there is not much else to pack, you quickly wear the pack and steal away from your home. Quickly and quietly you run out to the fields towards the forest, something that you have been forbidden to do since you were young. Often the adults would tell you that spirits often lived there, guiding travelers to their deaths. You aren't afraid though, because you weild a Scholar's Tome, though admittedly it is a beginner's volume. With this tome, you can look up monsters and spirits. Upon finding the page, it summons the weapon best suited for fighting said beast. If you train more with it, you can actually set a favorite weapon to use any time. But, alas, you do not have enough experience points.

You reach the mouth of the forest. It's much scarier than it seemed in the day...
>>
No. 73323 ID: ddd49b

Gathering courage, you push forward, not to be turned away at your first and only chance to get to the city. What are a few spirits to an adventurer?

You move quickly in the forest, trying not to trip on the roots of the gnarled trees that surround you. Lights seem to be everywhere, leading away from the "main path".

Very suddenly, you are pushed back by an invisible force, almost knocking off your glasses from your face. You see nothing there. You panic slightly, not knowing what to do.

You feel around you, trying to see if there was an invisible wall in front of you or around you, but to no avail.

You open the tome, seeing if there was any sort of wall-breaking implement that you may use. You obviously find several, but hesitate to use them. If you were attacked by other monsters, you would have to use the same implement to fight them. You have not mastered the use of multiple weapons at once.

A faint light catches your eye for a moment, but fades away just as quickly.

Hmm...You find plenty of creatures in there; fae, maze hands, swamp lights, the such. Anything specific you want to search?

>Hello? Is there anyone out there? I'm sorry for bumping into you. Are you able to show yourself?
You hear small snickers, though they could be mistaken for crickets and other chirping insects. That view is soon dashed as you see more bright lights converge towards you, not bothering to try to be hidden. Hopefully they are friendly, though you keep your hand close to the tome. You can see that the lights contain small fairies, though it is tough to tell what kind they are.

((Gotta focus on an essay that I must write...I shall still be doing this quest.))

That is true, especially since you're around level 1 or 2 right now... You'd only be able to summon something like a butterfly net.

>Hey, she's a Scholar! Berryl might like this...She looks like his type...
It seems the Fae are discussing whether to kidnap you or not. It does not look good.
>Naw, he wants someone who's not ten times his size.
>We can shrink her!
>Stupid, he wants HER!
>No, he wants someone he can bone without being related to-
>ENOUGH!
A resounding, echoing voice fills the air, dropping the temperature several degrees. You can see a strange mist forming around a pair of trees, as if it were forming a door. A Humanoid figure floats out, extending his long, lithe limbs towards you. He'd look handsome if he weren't half your size and twice as thin.

>Hmm...A human...You have not drawn a weapon yet either...You may be the person I need. Serve me in this small favor and I shall reward you greatly. There is something I wish for you to locate.

What slender man? He's a Fae. He looks humanoid, but something feels off enough to tell that he's not of this existence and such. You also sense that he can kill you with a movement of his hand.

>What is the quest? I may be able to-
>As if you had a choice. If you did not accept you would be killed here and now.
Berryl seems quite serious about this. It seems you don't have much of a choice.
>Okay, I accept.
>Good, it would be very sad if the trees got to have more of those from the Earth again for fertilizer. Anyway, I need you to retreive something for me...A very special item that you Humans have created. A very special-
>He wants that book thingy that you guys made a while ago!
What book thing? The Tome of Spirits?
>I was getting there! It takes a certain flair that only the Oberon of Fae can-
>Whatever! Girl, he wants you to get that book tingy, and show him the page of the Titania.
The Titania, or Queen of the Fae? Why would they...
>Why would you like to-
>Because our leader here wants to bone someone who's not his sister.
>That is not the reason! I just thought that our kingdom needed the true queen, and the last one disappeared many years ago, even in Fae counts. As such, I decided that-
>He needed a better Fairy to bone.
>No! Look, just get that book, I shall even give you the Fae's part of the map if you do.
Berryl reaches in a pouch that you have not seen on him before and takes out a translucent piece of parchment.
>Now just go...
Berryl seems to be disheartened. It must be tough to rule a kingdom full of subjects such as these.

The sun slowly clears, taking the Fae away with the night. The path to the city seems clear now.

You head on the path towards the city. Luckily, nothing as interesting as the night with the Fae happens.

The city you are in is known as Arland, after the first hero recorded in the world. It is home to over hundreds of Guilds, all being meeting places for fellow adventurers to group up. You hope to find one soon and begin your adventure but first, you must register as an official adventurer. You enter the Bureau, hoping to get a warm welcome, only to be met with indifference. There is no one inside, and the receptionist seems to be ignoring you.

A bell? Ah, a bell...Bell...Where is that...There it is.

You ring the bell, only to receive a surprising jolt of electricity.
>May I help you? Please leave if you're just here to molest my poor pet...
She picks up the "bell" and slowly pets it, muttering coos and the like.
>Um...I would like to register as an adventurer?
>Hmph! Why should I let you? I'm supposed to decide who becomes one, so show me. Or do you just like to bully pets for fun?
You know that she can't do that, but you aren't sure if you call on her higher-ups to rule in your favor.

You may have laid it on thick there, but it may help your chances. The receptionist seems to re-enforce the "brain-to-bust" ratio for other girls.
>Hmph! As much as I'd like you to die in a fire, and I really would like for you to die pet-toucher, but I know what a sage looks like, and sages come back no matter what. So you forget abo-
You her another person enter the Bureau, though you do not turn around to see who the person is, though it seems the receptionist knows who the newcomer.

>Why hello, I...I didn't expect you to come here of all places. W-what do you need, Master Sage?
You turn your head to face the person. It was a Sage, another sort of job that uses books, though the qualifications are infinitely steeper than Scholar. Most who make Sage level are often revered across the land as mentors and warriors. Apparently, Sage uniforms are similar to Scholar uniforms, though Sages carry a chain of tomes instead of a single one.

>Are you bullying my apprentice, Selvia? You know that a professional should put work over feelings...I thought you better than that.
>O-of course Master Tempre...Here...Your license. I'm doing this as a favor fr your master now, I hope you pay more attention to other people's pets from now on!
Yes, the License! Now you can join other Adventurers!

You run out the Bureau in joy, wondering what to do next. There's also the matter with the Sage who assisted you.

Of course, you didn't read all those years for nothing.

>I thank you for your assistance, I was not sure if she would allow me to have-
>There are no thanks needed, young Scholar. I was merely acting on my beliefs, that all those who seek adventure must be allowed to embrace it. But please do not blame Selvia, she merely puts her pet above most other responsibilities she has. Other than that she focuses on her job, if a bit misguided. Please, do not think anything of it. I believe I never received your name...Never mind, I am sure I will hear of it soon. Allow me to give you another nudge in the right direction...
The Sage, Master Tempre, seems to dissipate into thin air and a feeling of heaviness is in your hands. It seems to be a pouch filled with coins, probably enough to buy some basic gear as well as get the second edition of the Slayer's Tome. There is also a map of the city with several red markings around some of the streets.

The markings just seem to be names of stores and guilds that you may have luck in finding a group of adventurers. It also gives some minor bits of advice on how to handle the owners of said guilds.

Unfortunately, before you could even begin to make sense of the Sage's scrawling, a forceful grasp snatches both the map and bag of coins from your hands. You see that it is a Thief, another one of the many jobs in the world, and she seems to be making a bee-line towards one of the guilds on the street; a place called the Rusted Blade.

You do just that, and make as much of a ruckus as you can about the thief, but no one seems to care. Must be because you look like an outsider; with short hair and a darker tan than most of the people you see. Giving up, you enter the guild
---
The guild, The Rusty Blade, fits its name. It is mostly empty except for the receptionist and a small group of people in the corner. The job board is almost bare except for a single flier. You think you see the thief from before in the small group; recognizing the orange, cat ear-like hat of the Thief Job from behind. You think you see your bag of coins on the table in the middle of them as well.

However, you do take out a wicked looking knife; the Dragon Slaying Weapon to be exact. It looks like it could fillet just about anything. You wave i9t in the air, screaming bloody murder and making a bee-line towards the group. The Thief sees you and makes a break for the stairs. You feel your feet leave the ground; it seems they have a Staff user among them, most likely a Healer, judging by the now obvious sphere surrounding you. What looks like their leader; a tall guy in strange, green armor and carrying a sickle-like sword steps forward. He stares at you with seemingly innocent blue eyes. He begins to question you.

>Who are you? Why do you attack us? Would you like to join our group?
