The year is 2568, give or take a few to relativity. The place is aboard starship Eternal Hope. Following an unexpected collision, the ship was forced to make an emergency stop around a nearby star. Now adrift; the surviving crew has to repair their ship enough to return home to safety. That and not get eaten by the evil shape shifting alien.

Sparrow throws the taser vaguely in their direction and scampers off into the vents. She hears something that almost maybe sounds like a yelp in pain? She doesn’t linger to find out. Sparrow realizes that she just left Crow behind. Her throat seizes up and she buckles into a sad little ball on the ground. He trusted her! Or, no, he wanted her to leave him behind. But she could have saved him! Maybe. She wanted to believe that she could. But she just abandoned him. Her heart is racing now. She should run back. Or, no, that, it’s a bad idea. She thinks. Perhaps. She could- he barely had a pulse, right? But that’s more than no pulse he wasn’t actually dead yet. Sparrow’s vision is getting blurry. She’s hyperventilating. She’s made a series of poor decisions and she wishes she didn’t have to take these pills just to try to be normal but maybe if she takes a few more they’ll start kicking in and then she can-

Sparrow runs through the vents, out the Second-Ring, into the Engine, and pops out in Storage.

Captain:btw the collision broke the gravityspin-o-thing in the engine

Engineer:thanks I noticed. Lock all the doors you can, I need time

Sparrow hears the dull thud of every door shutting simultaneously reverberate throughout the ship. She has a storage site full of dangerous chemicals, zero gravity, some duct tape, and an adrenaline rush that’s holding off a life crushing panic attack. Maybe it’s the pills kicking in. Or the air supply dwindling. Or she’s emotionally shutting down in reaction to the mess that her life’s become.

Or it’s all of the above and her body is just shutting down instead of trying to deal with all this crazy bullshit.

Either way, she needs a plan, and fast.

Duct tape the barrels in a chain you'll carry behind you in zero-g and punch a hole in one of them so it'll leave a trail.
Find a tool closet with some means of either dispersing or detonating the chemicals. Continue making your way to life support.
>>
No. 664785 ID: e114bc

Well how is the thing reacting to the locked doors? Is it breaking them down? You could lay in wait behind one of them with a barrel, ready to crack it open and spray it onto the alien. Or heck, put it right against a door it's going to knock down, so that it breaks the barrel as the door breaks.

Captain's in a place with sealed off vents... you could flood the vents with chemicals. Get to a safe location or just stay ahead of the chemicals and you'll be fine but the alien will be dead. Preferably your next stop is life support, to get the air circulation&purification working again.
>>
No. 664874 ID: 57dfcc

You need to make a trap out of chemical barrels and duct tape.

I'm thinking set things up in spinning rings of stable equilibrium, so when they're broken or the canisters open, it sprays tangent to the spin, at your target.

Built an interconnected paranoid web.
>>
No. 664883 ID: 357713

Step 1: Equip goggles.
Step 2: Break a small hole in a tank or open it slightly
Step 3: Break off length of duct tape, coat one end in chemicals
Step 4: Fling sticky chem strands towards vent openings and alien

Also tell the cap to keep talking, since even if it interferes with nearby things you will know when the interference gets too close to you.

Is there any way we don't gas the probably but hopefully not dead Crow with this plan? We'd need to remote-seal the vents in that room.
>>
No. 664986 ID: a107fd

How many different vents do we have in this one room? Prep that many barrels. Open up one end (hopefully there's a neat little screw-cap), reseal it with the flimsiest possible layer of duct tape, then kick it toward a vent, semi-open end first. Conservation of momentum means that when the barrel hits the wall, fluid inside will want to keep moving, so the loose cap will pop off and squirt copious amounts of bone-melty chem gunk out into the vent, like a stomped-on tube of toxic toothpaste.

You can then leave safely via a door, which the captain will unlock for you after the alien is finished learning that The Easy Way Is Always Mined, which any real soldier would have already known.

Sparrow proceed to dump as much dangerous, caustic chemicals as possible into as many vents as possible. They are now reasonably confident that anything that has ever been organic matter would be burned into a goopy mess if they tried to travel through the vents now.

Captain: harsh

Sparrow exits storage via the front door. She can already see globs of chemicals drifting lazily out of the vents from here. Given the dangerous nature of said chemicals, she feels significantly less safe.

Captain: things moving
Captain: fast

Sparrow hears a sudden, sharp shriek echo out of the vents.

Engineer: where to?

Captain: idk, cameras are shutting on and off erratically
Captain: want me to kill grav in the rings?

Dull, heavy thuds reverberate throughout the ship.
>>
No. 665485 ID: 57dfcc

>want me to kill grav in the rings?
It's a space alien shapeshifter. It can navigate zero g better than I can. Leave the gravity on, so I can keep running.

>vents filled with caustic chemicals
So now if the alien doesn't kill you, or the lack of oxygen doesn't kill you, that's going to kill you when you try to turn the air back on.

Unless we can hook the oxygen supply up to one room and leave the fans off so it doesn't blow through the vents?
>>
No. 665487 ID: e114bc

>>665479
Cut gravity? Well... I'm not sure that's a good idea. The alien has tentacles, that means it's good at moving around in zero g.

Really that would only help if it prevented the chemicals from getting places we don't want it to be. Considering it's rotational artificial gravity, air turbulence makes things very weird. Sparrow should have a general idea of how unreasonable the rotation would make trying to avoid the chemicals.

Are there any hazmat suits anywhere that could let us just kindof ignore the chemicals until we can vent them (after the alien is dead ofc)? Or can we seal off this section of the ship? Is there more than one air purification system? Can we disconnect it from this part of the ship?

Head to... hmm. If the alien is smart it's going to try to vent the ship on its own. We need to find a way to stop it. Find a weapon of some sort? ...those chems are flammable, right? We could kill it just by getting to a room we can seal off, then flicking a match into the vents. The pressure wave would pulp it.

Well you can steal a dead person's comms if you find one. There should be lots of those.

You've got some distance from the hopefully dying alien. What's the next priority? Set a new trap? Fix broken ship stuff before you die? Pump stomach before the overdose kills you? Double back for Crow?
>>
No. 665702 ID: e114bc

Okay so we can't vent the chems. Then this is it, it's over. We're dead. It's probably trying to bust a hole in the hull right this very minute and we don't even know where. If it succeeds, it gets to live and we get to die.

Wait for the comm to bounce off the vent cover and then reclaim it. I doubt the chems are corrosive enough to destroy the thing from a brief exposure, although you should probably not touch it with your bare skin.

SO. WHERE CAN WE ACTUALLY GO.
>>
No. 665704 ID: 9fba89

The way i see it, at this point the Alien would be sick and tired of chasing around a mostly defenseless engineer that has proven to not be as defenseless. The aliens ultimate goal is to get to the captain and get into the bridge. The alien should try to get to the bridge and try to force his way in since his while disguise jig is up.

For Sparrow she needs to find a away to stop herself from dying to the chemicals that are now in the vent and get to the Captain to ensure his safety.

For the Captain he needs to report to his superior Vice-Admiral and get some much needed advice on how to deal with god damn aliens on his god damn ship.

Sparrow is fairly confident that attempting to recover the communicator would do more harm than good now. As it drifts by she catches a glance at the screen, bearing a new message from the captain.

Captain:I think it’s coming my way?

The screen sputters and shuts off. She takes a minute to reconsider her options.

From here she could:

[1] Run to the command module and hope the Captain would let her in.
[2] Double back to Crow and hope he’s not dead/eaten.
[3] Run into the belly of the engine and find out what she can do from there.
[4] Try to fix the oxygen systems
[5] Panic
[6] Panic and cry
[7] Run to the escape pods and find out if any can be repaired.

Is that a…. hissing noise?

>Is that a…. hissing noise?
That's probably the aline come to kill you. Look around, fast!

...or the alien went and turned the air back on, for revenge. And is about to blow all the toxins in the vents at you. Maybe you need to take cover?

Of the actual numbered options: 1 seems pointless, 2 is where your heart is, 3 or 4 might actually be productive.

Oh okay if it turned on the air then we're double dead. Of course it's probably got just as much to worry about as you do. From the sound of things it's busting down the doors to get at the captain...

Do 3, and rig the engine to overcrank and explode. Immediately afterwards make a dash to the escape pods, and attempt an escape. If you have the time you can try to get Crow, but he is presumably eaten by now.

Another option is to get Crow's communicator, and bluff the Alien with saying that you have a) disabled the pods, and b) rigged the ship to explode. Then you can try to lure the alien to the engine room and take him down there, or alternatively get the Captain to open the armoury and give you access to the weapons within.

Again, does the suit have magnetic boots? Or any sort of thrusters? If not you're gonna have to look for a path that has handholds, or find something with the reaction mass you need to maneuver.

...optimally we'd be looking for an airlock near the armory. Also, I thought of a potential trap we can set. Get another hardsuit, fill it with caustic chemicals, put it somewhere that the alien is likely to find.

If you have a radio in the suit, warn them about the predatory alien chasing you. Phrase it so that the alien can't tell you're actually seeing anyone, and are just broadcasting blindly to anyone that might hear you. The more information we deny the alien the better. Although at this point it has almost all the information, having eaten six people.

Of course, this is assuming that is someone wearing a hardsuit (someone that survived the original collision and got trapped outside the ship, but had a hardsuit), and not the alien somehow reaching across the entire station to make a doppleganger of the suitless captain to lure you into a trap. I can't tell actually. If it's the latter stay away obviously, veer right or something.

GET IN THERE.

Also if you ever get into a pressurized section of the ship again, consider inducing vomiting so that you get some of those pills out of your stomach.

Time to act Captain, you have been training your whole life for this moment. Listen to Vice-Admiral Morgan and fight the weapon with the only weapon you know, booze.

I second the points made, but you need to see if you have a firearm immediately within access. If you do not dispatch him here, he will just retreat into the ship, and wait until you are forced to fix the air supply due to the suits running out.
