I head back to the barracks and settle down. It's been a pretty rough day. Time to relax a bit.
> How long has it been since you've talked to Mel, might want to see how it's going on his end. And tell him to be careful.
Ah right, good point. Although there have been quite a few things I discovered today, I should check and see if he found anything else relating to the names I've given him. I dial his number and the tone rings several times before he picks up.
"Whew, hello?" he sounds pretty exhausted.
"Mel? Hey, bud, it's Aiden."
"Hey, Aiden!"
"Are you okay?" he just laughs between hard breaths.
"Yeah, yeah! I'm good. Just been working pretty hard on that teleportation device. There's some really weird stuff going on. A couple modules are failing checkers all of a sudden, but I think it's because of this set of alignments I've just conducted. I'm trying to see if I can find a better tolerance range for the power supplies and...well, things got a little nasty."
"Hey, I told you to be careful with that thing!" I say jokingly, although that should definitely be cause for alarm.
"Yeah, but don't worry! I'll know what to do if things get sticky. I'm getting closer to completing it though! Phase one, mark one, alpha, whatever!"
I chuckle and then change the subject, "Hey, foxboy, did you find anything on the names I gave you? Anything at all?"
He hums in thought for a bit. "Sorry, Aiden. I couldn't find much of anything, honestly. Do you think they could be related to the feranthros? Just a wild guess."
"Some are, actually. Get this. Hyuro is the name of a bloodline, possibly a feranthro bloodline. Could be royalty or something." I continue to reveal to him our capturing of the feline feranthro, Nathan. I also talk about the riot.
"Ooh, you were a part of that, weren't you? I actually just learned about that whole thing. You're okay, right??"
"Yeah, I'm fine, Mel, but what's your take on that?"
"The feranthro you brought in, or the riot?"
"Well, ah..." Before I can say anything else, Mel continues.
"If that guy you brought in was once a cop, then that could definitely mean that the drug's legit. I mean, there have been cases about this before, no doubt!"
"Right, right, but what if there's something else too? Brainwashing? Could that be helped by someone's mind being affected by the Link?" I start to feel even worse for Weathers. I can sense Mel shrugging over the phone.
"I have no clue, Aiden. All this occult stuff the feranthros do. It's really not for me."
"Well, what about the riot?"
"Hm. You mentioned everyone around you was affected? Here, when I finish my work on this thing, I'll see if I can dig up any more information about your Link, okay?"
"I appreciate that," I say with a content sigh. I try to remember anything else I wanted to inform Mel about before getting some shut-eye.
