It's been a long time.

A long time since there was anything to see.
Or touch.
And the voices are going, now, too. Falling away into the silence.
One remains, and the quiet sound seems unnaturally loud in the Void.

They say that you can't take it with you. But no one believes that. So...

After the noises fade, you once more crawl out of your confinement, and slide again over to the object.

You continue to soak up liquid, and your continued presence begins to significantly dissolve the object, releasing yet more liquid.

An emotion, your first, passes through you. You desire more of this liquid, and the object.

It is quickly followed by a second, that of curiosity. You begin to slide off the dish, moving further along the bench. As you do so, you briefly attempt to consume the bench itself, but cause little damage to it. It would take some time to consume the substance it is made of.

You decide to pause for a moment to consume the rest of the object, adding its mass to your own.

Once this is complete, and the dish is clear of liquid, you move, crossing a few other objects before reaching upward to the other bench.

Your increased mass allows you to reach, but you are not sticky enough to get a solid grip on the surface.

Frustrated, you attempt to make a noise of your own, but succeed only in releasing a bubble of air.

Having determined that the high ledge could not be reached without assistance, you turn to examine the bench for something that could help.

After determining that you are still able to move, and realizing that your sense range has been greatly reduced, you study the second object. It seems tougher than the first to absorb, though it seems to be reacting with certain materials you previously absorbed.

After a moments experiment, you attempt to lift the second object, and find that your increased density has much improved your strength, allowing you to easily move and carry the item.

Finally, you glance over the edge of the bench, but your now much-curtailed senses give no clue as to how far the fall would be.

Your entire body deforms as you strike the ground with a wet slap. Despite the combination of your increased bonding force, and the resistance spell you cast, a large portion of your mass has severed from the whole.

[Mana: 16/20]
[Mass: 26]

Luckily, you managed to keep your grip upon the two difficult-to-consume objects as you fell.

Your limited senses reveal little in this area. A hole in the bench support is the only thing on note. Touch affords you much more data. The ground is covered in small items, which you may easily absorb, though they are small enough that you see no benefit in doing so. Dried samples of the liquid from the dish are also present, though they lack the "flares" that you previously sensed. You hear no significant noises in the area.

Try to communicate with the rest of you. Tell it to wait, and ask it to participate in a plan. We need to make ourselves able to cling to walls, at least temporarily, and climb back up to the petri dish. Then we can try merging back together and leaving a part of ourselves back there so it doesn't look like we've escaped somehow. Preferably when we merge we make the remaining bit dormant so it doesn't get bored and try to leave.

You momentarily attempt to crack or sever the objects in your mass, but have no where near the strength required to do so. You estimate this means they are quite resistant to your corrosive effects, as well as made of a strong material.

Filing this knowledge away for later use, you cast Light.

[Mana: 7/20]

You're not entirely sure what the purpose of this is, as you do not currently possess any way of perceiving light yourself. However, casting the spell triggers some movements within the hollow support, and this time you manage to pick them up via your as-of-yet-undefined sense. There are three areas of movement.

Having done this, you move to cover the entrance to the small acclove above you, aiming to prevent any escape of creatures within. As you once more extend your senses, you cover more of what you believe tobe antenna, to see...

Nice, lets get more of that.
Can you focus on digesting a specific portion of the creature you caught? let us call it spider (btw, I noticed on carefully looking that the spider had the stump of an 8th leg. It isn't a weird 7 legged spider its just lost a leg).
Anyways, try to focus digestion on a specific portion (the head) to kill it. Also try to rapidly kill your catch by breaking it apart to ensure it does not escape and to accelerate digestion, break the legs off one by one.

You secure your catch in your center, and proceed along the passage. As you do, you attempt to break apart the still-struggling creature within you. Though your meager strength does not allow you to rip it apart, you manage to halt its movements, and widen the gaps in its protective exoskeleton enough to start digesting it from within.

As you move towards the end of the passageway, you notice movement immediately in front of you, moving upwards and away from you. You also sense another some way up the structure.

A thought comes to mind: you could use your objects as weapons. Although a quick attempt shows that there is not enough room to swing in the tunnel, you can stab. Your meager strength makes this a questionably useful manover at best, but being able to attack from a distance could be a significant advantage.

These thoughts drive you onward, as you stab towards where you last sensed the closest movement. However, the creature has moved, and you end up striking another construct. As you do so, you can sense the creature's new position above you.

ok then... go ahead and engulf it, then try to break it like you did the other, then consume the web as well.
Try to make it come to you by pretending to be caught in its web (send out a tendril to rattle the web).

Once you captured this one as well:
Try to use the knife and fork to cut apart the spider once inside you, such as putting a leg between the fork's teeth and then spinning it.
Try sawing it apart with the knife's teeth.
Or use leverage there as well, place the spider on the ground, the fork between the joint but facing up, then apply force at the other end of it.

Also, try breaking off the fork's teeth against the hard surrounding. Or by placing the knife between the teeth and twisting.

After you are done with all those experiments leave the knife and fork behind as you can't take them further with you, you can come back for them later if need be. If you manage to break off the fork's teeth, take those with you.

However, you are faster. Reaching forward, you manage to snare the creature's rear, your newly found stickiness allowing you to keep a grip on it as it struggles. Finally, something else's meager strength fails it, and it cannot escape your grip.

[MSP: 60/100]

You pull it inside you, and crack its limbs as you did the previous one. A brief experiment with the multi-pronged object allows you to widen the gaps, and so you apply this strategy to both of the creatures within you.

Well, let's settle into one of these caverns for a bit and digest. We're in no rush.

Sit here till something will be digested.

I don't think we could get away with magically shouting "It evaporated" so you should probably just curl up into a corner and take a nap, if that's possible, or just rest and digest that stuff. Unless one of those weird magical things you can do includes putting suggestions into people's heads.

rub the things against eachother to make them break apart faster.

sit and digest until the spiders are fully consumed. At that point see if you can evaluate the amount of time remaining on the utensils and whether you are now strong enough to break them entirely or at least break the teeth.
Based on how that goes we will either abandon them to travel upwards and om nom nom more spiders. Or we will finish them and then go.

You decide the best course of action is to simply wait till the creatures within you are digested. You untense, and slip lazily into one of the depressions in the rough tunnel.

As you rest, you rub the objects together within you, and succeed in demolishing the tough exteriors of the creatures, allowing you easy access to the softer parts within. The two strong objects still resist your acid, but you notice that their surfaces are now extremely rough, especially the one with the prongs. With some effort, you attempt to pry one of the prongs off, but only end up bending it slightly. More smooth material exists beneath, and so you set to work removing the first layer to access the next.

For the first time, you begin to feel fatigue, as the constant motion of objects within you begins to wear you out. You spend some time puzzling over this new sensation.

During this time, a few noises are present from outside the tunnel, though nothing you can distinguish as anything other than thumps and bumps.

After an indefinite period, the creatures are completely dissolved. You are unsure how much time as passed, having no way of keeping track, and having been occupied with the experience of fatigue.

It is a somewhat unpleasant sensation, yet it pleases you that you have some other form of sense besides touch and your mysterious other sense.

Pleasure is also a pleasing sensation.

Continue moving deeper into the tunnels, bringing the remaining objects with.

Sleep if possible, not a good idea to go around tired

We need to move deeper, so we won't be seen from outside. Then we would sleep.

lets catch a few more spiders before going to sleep, it is possible the digestion occurs while you are asleep and it would thus be more efficient to go to sleep while full.

You decide to move deeper into the tunnels, wedging the two remaining objects in your mass as far as you are able along the passageway.

Your action is motivated by two thoughts. The first is that there may be more of the creatures within the tunnels, and indeed, you sense a number of things moving about above you. The second is the belief that resting may afford you some reprieve from your fatigue, and you seek somewhere to pursue this course unnoticed.

While you are unfamiliar with the means by which other creatures sense, you reason that the creatures have only had overt reactions to your presence when there exists a clear space between you. As such, you mentally map the area that a being with such senses would perceive from the tunnel entrance.

is that light?
... I think we just got found out.
Leave the utensils behind, move deeper into the tunnels.

It's not light, its the area we can be seen from the opening of the tunnel

Using your mental map, you return to the location you consumed the first of the creatures, wedging the two objects across the entrance. You settle somewhat uncomfortably, as the uneven surface requires you to hold on to prevent slipping. Luckily, your new-found stickiness helps to some degree, and while you do not untense completely, you maintain a comfortable enough position to spend no more energy on it.

After a time, you begin to feel a new sensation. This one reminds you both of the fall from the bench, and a far milder form of fatigue.

As you slowly begin to lose track of the world around you, you form the opinion that this is a pleasant sensation.

With the last vestiges of consciousness, a word forms within you, the first word that you've ever thought.

Sleep.

Technically, all you guys are the <Outside> doing the puppeting. But that voice? It wasn't talking to you.

Chapter 2 will begin once I've completed my mid-semester exams. :I
