[Wiki: http://quest.lv/wiki/CheeQuest ]

Hello, everyone! It's been a few days since we last talked, but things have been pretty calm. There's no word on my possible banishment, but it's been on our minds. Kradis has been teaching me the basics of surviving outdoors, and I've been at Chop's dojo a lot, either practicing majic with the other healers or fighting a bit too. Fraga taught me how to throw a fireball, too! I can't make a very strong one yet, but it is nice to be able to get warmed up, also to put out fires. After all, the cardinal rule of pyromancy is to never summon a fire you can't put out!

Fraga says that I should work on my concentration in order to use some advanced spells, so I've been hard at work for it.

It's a new day, and Fraga says he can teach me an advanced supportive spells. Which one should I take?

- Imbue an inanimate object with healing energy so that it heals instead of damages people. This takes a moment, so I can't just negate on offensive blade swinging on me.

- Gain strength. This is self explanatory, but apparently it occupies all your magic, and so I can't cast any spells while my (or other's) strength is high!

- Invisibility. This has even more drawback than the strength. Apparently it takes so much concentration, it's near impossible to cast other spells or do anything complex. I guess if it was second nature though, I could do it while invisible.

take imbue, would let you imbue a throwing knife and throw it at a undead thing.
>>
No. 325373 ID: 5f55fe

I say go with imbue. We were already on the path of healing and helping people, so let's continue that plan.

Fraga's such a good person, although I suppose it's all for the sake of everyone being the best that they can be. With everything you guys have to put up with, I can understand why that rule is in place.

Imbue. We will be the holy scourge against undead! And also make other people holy scourges against undead! How long does imbue last by the way?

Imbue, then Invisibility.
If you combine those two then you'll be able to imbue a bunch of blow-darts, hide somewhere above a battlefield invisibly, and heal your allies at a distance.

Does imbuing allow you to enchant items and to make them into healing accessories? Ask him to teach you imbuing regardless; once you master it, you'll be even more valuable for the camp, which will cement your position here and discourage any further thoughts of your banishment.
>>
No. 325379 ID: f5fe2f

I don't see much value to imbuing, almost any situation where we could use an imbued item to heal, we could just do it manually.

I say invisibility.
>>
No. 325380 ID: 0bd0b0

I say go with strength so you can throw things and swing stuff really hard. And beat the shit out of Chop hopefully. Imbue is good too, how long does it last? Do enchantments stay forever?

These are some good questions! Let me ask...

>>325373
>>325380
>"For you dude, I'd say an imbue would last a few good minutes after you cast it. It's a real quick spell too, so so long as you got a warning you'll have some ammo. Preferably soft ammo. Normally this is a pretty useless spell, because it has to heal the damage caused, by, ya know, stabbing someone as well. After that, all surplus power goes to where they were hurtin before. But man, your heals are so good, that's no prob."

>>325377
>"Certainly dude, this is kind of the fundamental spell for that. Later on we can get you magicing up an item with more permanent heal charges."

>>325376
>"Uh, no offense there, but even with your magic you may have trouble with 'im. Now, if you casted some strength in Chop... well, I'd rather not think 'bout that."

"Well, I'll keep all of that in mind, but I'd really like the imbue!"

>"Nice choice, specially what with the necromancers. That would cause damage both from the ammo and the heal.

Ask about using healing magic at a distance. Even if it's harder to do and weaker, sometimes you'll want to heal something you can't hit or get into a fight without warning.
Actually, aside from challenging Chop all your fights have been without warning. That could be an issue.
>>
No. 325384 ID: c2c011

Well lets get this show on the road then. Ask him if the imbuing also works for other spells, like if you can imbue a fireball into something now and what effects that would have.

It takes a few hours, but I'm really getting the hang of it!"

>"Yeah man. Geez. We're not supposed to feed your ego too much, but geez. Just a couple days of practice at that and you'll be able to put in the full power of your heal into whatever."

"Is it possible to heal at a distance?"

>"Oh absolutely. I couldn't teach you though, I can barely do it past arms reach, so you'll need to find someone else."

"How about imbueing stuff with fireballs?"

>"Sure, sure. That's a little advanced for your fire skills though, so let's wait on that. Doesn't do anything unexpected though, just acts like the item is on fire. Pretty awesome."

Demand instructions from Fraga. He must know what to do.

Also: You can imbue things with healing now, right? With your accuracy, that+thrown objects could be a very powerful combination, getting around the fact that you don't have distance healing yet. You can sit at the back of battles and pop your allies with little bursts of healing whenever they get hurt.

Yell "DWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARVES!" at the top of your lungs. This is important, because it appears your alarm system is based on shouting. Then, make sure you have your ranged weapons. If you don't have any now, pick some up. Then get to where the dwarves are at.

If they're still outside then go out there, have somebody point out their leader and his officers, take a bow, and go from highest to lowest rank putting as many arrows into their dwarf eyes as it takes to make them fall over. Eventually one of them will realize that they're now the ranking officer and order a retreat.

If they're inside then take a bow and start killing dwarves and healing kobolds as you find them.
Keep count of how many you kill, and when the battle is over have somebody tell BeardWizard how many kills you racked up. They'll have a hard time banishing you if you were the most valuable kobold in that fight.

Oh, it seems Kradis knows what's going on and is telling Chop and... is that the chief?

>"Alright, tis not a normal attack. They bring with them the standard fare of two to three dozen, but such are different. Armed and armored to the beard, and discipline to boot. Worse yet, it is my belief a good four of them were full fledged paladins. Nary the paladins that fool around with kobolds and goblins either!"

>"No. These are the Silver Cross. They've taken on rampaging orcish hordes that crushed standard armies, and slain legions of demons and undead beside. We may not be doing battle with the full Cross and instead are looking at four, but what they are doing with us, I am truly afraid to know. They are typical to only be deployed to fry the big fish."

>"Be truthful with me, Kradis. What losses are we looking at?"

>"... with the normal dwarven force, we could expect to lose a few dozen in equal trade, and with excellent deployments of traps and terrain advantage. But the paladins are fearsome. I expect our traps to hardly be a bother, and many kobolds would be needed to give but a chance. We may not afford the luxury, this time, to hide our number as always."

This.. this sounds serious!

These dwarves are going to be armored up. Aim for anywhere there's a chink or gap in the armor, likely around the face or joints. If you think you can manage, throw fire at them.

Whether or not this is what you're asking, your post gave me a thought:
Where are we, what with being scattered soul fragments and all? What's out actual link with Chee - I get our that our purpose to keep Chee from breaking apart with all that unstable magic, but I mean, how are we actually connected? What mechanisms? The hat's irrelevant to us being in Chee, and we got shafted off to Shabin earlier, so I'm kind of wondering how we actually work.

Guv'nah.

I think I can handle a lone Kragnar with homestage advantage while he's high on love.

Now, I think a lotta your questions'll get answered, but I wanna tell them while looking at lil' pally here.

"Yo, Krag."

>"By tha gods! The Devourer?! Impossible, I slew ye back in the mountain homes!"

"Yeah well, Lich King came along. He went "Hey, how'd you like to be a key part in my latest experiment?" then I was all "Sure, I ain't going anywhere but dead."

>"Lich King?! Ye mean to tell me that this kobold is a tool of the Lich King?!"

"Well, more like fun n' games. See, a couple liches wanted to be the new lich king, right?. The king caught wind, and said "That's cool you guys but there can only be one King. Hey, I know how to move your souls across phylacteries. And hey, I got a half living kobold in my hands capable of holding more souls. I wonder how things would go if you both had the same phylactery? And then he put me in charge of both containing, and protecting, all sorts of souls. It's a party in here, and you're invited, Krag!"

>"Filth! Git outta my beloved! I'll slay ye again!!"

"Actually, you probably shouldn't."

Oh, man. Love potion. This is gonna be good.

"She kinda needs me. First off, I'm the container of souls for Chee's well being. I am also the protector of them against beings such as yourself. Oh yeah, and Chee's soul? She's in here, too, just an insignificant mess in all the plethora of souls wandering about. You'll be with her forever, if you allow me to swallow your soul."

All of that is true, by the way.

"Kill me though, and you'll never be with her."

In actuality, I don't know what happens if he manages to kill me.

Explain how the Lich King thought it would be hilarious to put all this evil on an unsuspecting kobold and have the liches play rugby with an uncooperative proverbial egg.
Then consider letting him go, since it would be terrible for Chee's mental health to SOUL VORE somebody.

Or just eating him. Whichever.

>>325734
You can relay questions through me if ya like. Can't actually put you guys in.

Actually, that's a funny catch 22 there. See, you guys are indeed the souls, specifically, souls patched to give advice. Most other souls are there for their power. Ever think it was ridiculous how Chee was able to cast heals and throw crap with such accuracy? That ain't her talent. She really is a pretty pathetic kobold without modification. There's a soul of a legendary marksman and cleric in here, along with some pretty good mages and the like.

And when I devour Kragnar... well, let's do that right now!

"How does it feel, ol' Krag? Helpless to save your love, yet relenting will make you a paladin that helps a lich's tool to no end! She'll gain your talents at dealing with souls. Oh, not instantaneously, she'll need practice, like she did with healing! But she'll have such amazing talent, she'll get the hang of it fast."

See, catch 22. I, rather, Chee, can only put you guys in Krag after I've already eaten him.

Ah, poor Chee. If the King installed a heart in me, I think I'd feel sorry for the little tyke.

>>325737
Strong enough? That's possible, it's a question of how she uses that power. Will she fight me, the liches? Maybe the King himself?

>>325738
Well, the Paladins sure had some evil-bane that sure hurt, so I guess I'm pretty evil! May have had to do with that one time awhile back I sucked the souls out of half a kingdom, and then pair everyone's souls up with people they hated. Hilarious.

It's not that Chee is sealing me, it's that I'm sealed in Chee. I dunno how she's held together, that's all the King's business.

>>325751
I guess I could. Then they'd go back to their bodies. Oh wait, they're all dead. I guess they get to rest in peace then.

Except, I guess he did somehow, still a paladin.

Anyways, this guy ain't going to the voice department. He's going right to the talent hole, where all the souls give Chee natural ability.

>>325780
Yeah, the process just looks an awful lot like eating.

And to answer both 'end game' and how you popped out of her body... well, I'm just under the Lich King. What jobs the pair of usurpers give Chee I'm not privy too. But having your mortal enemy and rival share the same container for soul? That must be awkward. They both sometimes give souls for me, maybe give some other magic, but of course they don't check for each other's... well, compatability. And hence, she gets real unstable. And somewhere along the line I fell out. Didn't even notice, honestly. I'm a real insulated system.

Oh man! Been yappin for so long I forgot about Krag.

"How ya doin, pal? Just another moment, and y... wait... are you.. are you weeping? Aw man come on, you're not the same paladin that charged at me without fear! Come on now, this is actually embarrassing. Okay okay, we're ready to seal the deal."

Nah, in my stomach. That was before Krag came along though, so they're no longer around in insufferable company. If the paladin doesn't get killed, well.. I'll eventually lose grasp on his soul and he goes back. Dunno how long the love potion lasts, but you better hope it lasts.

My opinion of the Lich King? I don't care. We just have an understanding, you know? I get to take care of what I always took care of, and we both benefit. I won't hinder you if you wanna take him out.

And lastly.. well, the whole scrying hat and its mechanisms are foreign to me. Ain't too bad though, it's not like it permanently saps her energy, it just acts like she casts a spell against her will. It's a bench mark the bird face uses to check out how strong Chee is.

>>325802
Correct, they are more alongside me rather than in me. The paladin could have easily confronted them if he looked harder, but, well.. I'm the bigger target!

Anyhow, I'm losin the paladin's soul here, and I gotta go.

Remember, if we DO get his soul, Chee'll be able to get all sorts of soul related talents! This includes passing me off to others while maintaining her stability, and, in the same manner as to how this happened, take ones souls for talent. In that regard, you can seek out a mage skilled in scrying magic, and if he doesn't help you out with your hat problem, you can just send 'im my way and we'll have a chit chat. Off we go, then!

It would be better if you let the paladin destroy it and perhaps you. The world is bigger than yourself, and even bigger than the entire kobold society. It's only natural to seek your own survival and happiness, but if your purpose is ever brought to fruition... if the goals of that which made you as you are ever were realized, then much more than you can ever conceive of will be doomed to torment, misery, and ultimately the greatest expression of evil you can conceive of. Some of these people, these dwarves, are misguided, but ultimately the paladins came because they know that here there exists an evil that would taint the world were it to continue to exist. Go with them, Chee, no matter how hard it is, or else the alternative will bring much more pain and suffering to so many more others.

Chee as created by the Lich King, and by our guidance it will be her that will succeed in at last destroying the Lich King once and for all, and perhaps truely abolishing the art of Necromancy for centuries more.

This is one of the Highest Paladins of a Divine Order that dedicates itself to eradicating evil. You think if Chee surrenders to him he's just going to bat her over her head with a hammer? I'm sure they are very well knowledgeable in what can be done in order to alleviate Chee's condition, to remove the influence of necromancers and liches and lich kinds from her, and to liberate all the trapped souls within her to their rightful states of afterlife. Perhaps even be able to repair Chee's soul and put it in its rightful place. They're FAR more likely to be KNOWLEDGEABLE and HONEST than a bunch of kobolds and a parasitic demon that DEVOURS SOULS. But instead of trying to advise Chee to ally herself with them you'd rather tell her to murder him in cold blood when all he's tried to do is find and exterminate evil. Yeah, I'm really the bad guy here.

No, Z. You aren't the bad guy. You are the good guy.
However, our survival counts on us being a good little kobold and killing a mortal enemy, and where fight-or-flight survival comes into play, good and evil really don't matter.

Also, a few pointers you should note:
A: Chee is a Kobold, and not one of the in-world 'civilized races', and will be chosen for extermination rather than purification.
B: The paladin in question is pretty much the best in the known world, and even HE said that Chee was beyond redemption, even when under the influence of the love potion.

In short: we want to live.

I am completely convinced by what we've seen that they would outright kill Chee.

They apparently have no qualms injuring kobolds that are completely unrelated to Chee who was their goal (>>325502).
Even big boss pally right here had no qualms in attacking a comrade for so much as bad-mouthing a love interest (>>325563).

Woops, clarification needed.
>Chee is a Kobold, and not one of the in-world 'civilized races'
To clarify, Kobolds as a race are Chaotic Evil, and Paladins are required by divine right to kill them for being innately Chaotic Evil creatures.

This isn't the real world. This i a world where magic and gods are obvious and real and at war. Paladins are soldiers, and their mission is to Smite Evil in all it's forms. There is no ambiguity, no shades of grey like what we live by.

I understand where you are coming from, but this is a fundamental fact of nature of this quest world, as intrinsic as gravity or the speed of light.

Because the 'bolds have clearly been evil with their plans to kill entire villages. No wait, that was the dwarfs who were doing the whole 'slaughtering villages' thing.

And this was a paladin. A good one. One that spent his entire life saving babies, killing evil undeads, the whole shebang. Sure, he's done some stuff that not everyone agrees with, but hey, doing otherwise is impossible!

Why, once, he once fought a dragon whos breath turned things to valuable gems. While fighting, he let the dragon crystalize both of his arms and proceeded to headbutt it to death!

He donated both of his arms to charity of many do-gooders before clerics began the process of giving his arms back.

And I just swallowed his being. And let me tell you, it makes me want to cry sissy-tears it is so good.

No kidding I'm outmatched. These dwarves are nasty, and this ain't my first one. What am I skilled at? Mining. I shouldn't have even joined the fight, but like hell I'd let Chee, Chee, show me up. But that's already happened, if she killed the big bad.

Anyway, you all wouldn't happen to know a fail-safe method of killing a crazy hammerdwarf, would you?

Chee's fine. She might be along shortly to heal people and knife faces.

In fact, it might be a good idea to draw the dwarves over to where she was last at. You know the tunnel the big paladin was coming down, and the Chief was at?

It looks like pretty much everyone's gotten their heads smashed in in there. Are they DEAD? I hope they aren't dead... keep hiding in that shadow. If you can take this guy in a surprise attack and swing your pick right into his helmet's eyeholes that'd work well. Only do that if he's alone or out of sight of his friends.

Did you know your eyes glow?

ok Shabin, here are a couple things to keep in mind. the weapon you have brought is suitable for some very special things when it comes to a melee. the big 2:
it's shape makes it very useful for hooking. basically, if you can get the counterweight or the head (or if yours is double headed, either head) behind something, you can pull it towards you. more popular applications of hooking include pulling legs out from under things, and pulling swings in too close. basically if a dwarf is trying to hit you with a hammer, if you pull him too close he will either stumble, or hit you with the handle, which hurts a far cry less than the business end of anything.
it's designed to break through things. basically you want to aim for the joints, but if you can't find any you're applying all the force to a small point.

if you think you're up to the task, what i would recommend here is tripping the dwarf and then putting the pick through their head while they're busy being ass over teakettle.

Well, you could make him fall in love with you and then eat his soul, that should leave him pretty much open to kill manually. If that's not within your abilities, try hiding or disappearing, then getting behind him and swinging your pick through the place where his helmet meets his plate, and into the spine. These dwarves don't seem to wear gorgets.

If it helps any, Chee doesn't naturally have those skills. They come from all these souls that were grafted onto her. (So do we, now that I mention it.)

Before attacking, it is important to consider what your pick is made out of, and what his armor looks like it is made out of. An if your pick is copper and his armor looks like steel, the pick probably won't be able to penetrate. If your pick is a similar material, it probably will be able to.

Trouble is someone's got to die before you can get their soul. Someone really skilled and awesome. This soul thing is more like an afterthought or an echo of what they once were. So no, don't depend on the souls too much. Because you'll just end up facing the people who haven't been killed yet, who will ergo be more awesome. It's great if you are in a bind against someone with a good deal less skill than your soul, but focus on your own skills first. If you're the stuff of greatness you will surpass anything we can do.

The chief is a coblold who is wearing a hat that can easily conceal horns (hidden inside the hollowed out horns on his hat). And the chief just happened to show up at precisely the right time to make sure Uberpally got killed.

Recruit Shabin, Chop and Fraga to go with you. All adventurers need a party, even if they are kobolds.

the cutebold that could eat souls: non-exalted edition

well you do want such a huge future for yourself. id say for you to stay until you get a bit more of physical training.

then we will need to research how to kill liches. a human town can do that for us, i think.

screw physical training, I say we invest all our points into magic. because, you know, the souls of two liches and who knows what other spellcaster.

see if anyone who can teach you things, preferebly of spellcasty nature, is willing to accompany you.

HELL YES CHEE!

By the way, I'm not sure if you figured this out yet, but you have a soul. It's just hiding. Also, you're a girl!

Personally I think we should visit either the first town your parents lived in or the second. The dragon is on the way, so we should visit them first. Based on any information they give us- wait what gender is the dragon anyway?- we can decide where to go next.

Going to check the human town might give us some clues, but we actually have no indication that there is anything related to you there. Best case scenario we don't get immediately attacked because you're a kobold and somehow find a mage that doesn't immediately attack you because you've got necromantic magics about you, then somehow manage to get him to tell you where the liches are... Yeah, not gonna happen.

I do think we should stay briefly to give a proper goodbye to your friends, and also I'm still curious about what makes Shabin's eyes glow. Also why Chop calls her rock eater. Does she actually eat rocks or is that just a term for a miner?

So about having a nice place to always come back too...

I would think that the Holy Dwarven Church would not give up so not-so-easily. And the Paladins of the Humans and Elves probably would take interest in the obliteration of such renown figures. So the Kobolds are definitely gonna nomad the fuck away, consider accompanying them for a while, whilst they set up a new camp so you know where they are.

Get as many of everything that is useful to you, moar kni- No wait your good at all ranged things, get moar everything, some potions of different effects for special situations and possibly a small melee weapon (or better yet, if they have it, a friggin Swordstaff) when magic fails to be an advantage.

Also we really should try to bring some people with us, even if it's just Shabin, backup is always a plus.

actually, if you kill the Litch king and get proof. that might get you enough credit with the dwarfs and paladins and such that you could ask them to stop trying to murder your people.
