Leave your squishy partner outside and then work your way down from the top of the building. Once you secure anyone of the people unaccounted for create a secure exit for them and get them out before continuing the search.

"I don't think so, big guy. We've been trough this; you need me."

The first thing he tries to do is to pick me up, surely to set me aside and try to go on his own. I try to take it as a gesture of kindness, instead of untrustworthiness.

I've learned he can't reach me if I stand at his right side.

Andrews seems to feel like leading today, so I let him. He's the one with a map connected to his head, after all.

His first instinct is to go for the roof entrance, but he's soon reminded of one of his .. disabilities.

Doubt it. Sounds like Andrews was injured during the war or something.
>>
No. 135293 ID: e828f5

Roof entrance was a bad idea to begin with. Andrews is some kind of heavy mech-man, and a building on fire already has compromised building integrity... The risk of just falling through a weakened patch of floor and down into flames is just too high.

I think we need to find a way into the building that doesn't involve breaking things, if we can even do that.

What was that about a map?

>>135274
Hey, uh, this is the only spelling mistake I've seen you repeat that isn't obviously stylistic like leaving the Ts off of contractions, but, uh, "through" has two Hs.

Unless that's stylistic too. But that'd be kind of weird for multiple characters to pronounce it like that. I dunno.

Andrews seems to get introspective for a moment, probably thinking of his next move. I can give him a minute; in the meantime, my eyes browse his shape once more.

For all purposes, Andrews is completely impervious to damage; his destiny was to fight an enemy that was much larger, and much more powerful than any hazard we may have here. As a consequence, he's much larger, bulkier and heavier than a normal person. To compensate for that, he's much stronger than anyone can be. I'm pretty sure he can drag another of his kind with ease, if he must.
The modern building code was kind to him; the average room is always tall enough, and the average corridor wide enough, to fit him with some leeway. No such luck with the average door, though.

His legs end in rockets instead of feet; they were built for flying, not walking. They seem strong enough to take his weight, and well-designed enough to not leave a hole wherever he steps. I think staircases would stil be a challenge for him.

Sometimes I wonder if he lost his right arm at some battle, because is completely different from the left one. First, it ends into some giant energy gun; probably by design. I really can't see why it wasn't replaced with something more practical. Second, the type of shoulder doesn' has the same degree of freedom.

On his back, the techs strapped the essentials; foam canister, hose, and a bag containing skyhooks, first-aid, and almost everything else I have under my coat Always have a backup. Which reminds me, I should've put my mask already, but the rebreather's air smells even staler than all this smoke.

.. to find that this floor seems ok.
The sprinkler system did a good job in retarding the fire, but the place is getting warm. No much smoke here.

My motion detector tells nothing so far, and IR is useless -- while not burning, its warm enough to not let me see trough the drywalls.

The floor is carpeted. Synthetic fiber. Let's hope we can get out before it ignites, because I doubt there is enough foam in the world for this.

Andrews just follows me in his slower pace, his 'feet' thumping heavy against the concrete floor. At least this floor seems safe.

Around the corner, it's not much different. Still no signs anywhere. Signs of smoke coming from the end of the corridor...

To my left, what seems to be a whole room divided in cubicles. One of the doors have a plate written 'Sales', hanging. Sights like this make me feel lucky for being a nurse...

I shouldn't be thinking of this right now, should I?

He's at it while I check one of the rooms... just paperwork and file cabinets here. The door was unlocked. Can't really tell if this room was being used before or anything.

All these files should be safe, if they out out the fire quickly enough. There's really very little smoke around here, if there is any fire in this floor, maybe it's in a room with an open window.

"Wingman. Stay. Soldier going down."

Stairs. He really needs to get something for them, if he plans to continue this business; you don't use elevators when there's fire. While we're reaching the second floor, I update our status with the guys at Central.

Takeoff? No. Instead bash out a structurally insignificant wall and jump to a safe location.
Use your jets to slow your descent, and remind command that procedures allow deviation to insure target survival.

We have one target left, location unknown.
Use jets to return to the roof, then finish clearing the building properly - we have no information about the remaining target's location or condition, so procedure takes priority.

In case you were wondering yes, I was expecting more specific commands. Not 'check all rooms' but 'check this room'. Its part of the puzzle.
On the original plan, the suggestions would control both characters at the same time, something more like a cooperative story, or a yarn. What it actually happened turned to be much more interesting, I say :3

I don't have any plans to make new episodes. I'd like to, but I'd need to have a new mission ready, and I don't; facts of life. So relax. Que serĂ¡, serĂ¡.

Now, back to the original programming. Today's pic is the original sketch that spawned this. Special thanks to the IRC peoples for the occasional the proofreading, and for showing me how many mistakes >>137184 has. Too bad I can't edit imageboard text...

Now, time to go back to our regular programming.

We're not THAT bad at puzzles, but it's kinda hard to follow procedures we don't know.

For example, the top floor had little smoke and no fire, so anybody there was at less risk than people on lower levels. If we spent the time to search there then people who are at more risk could die in the meantime.
We were working with a distinct lack of information; even seemingly hopeless fights can be won, but not if we can't tell if we're wielding a gun or a squid.

Yeah, I know -- that WAS one of the things that made things feel rather dragged. Maybe I should try a less procedural episode next time, or call a fireman to join us >.>;
