The tiny adventurer's guild room is strewn with stitched clothing and a few non-urgent, cheap-postage, non-urgent mail and packages. They’ll get delivered soon, right, Apricot?

Autumn and Apricot snooze atop their latest bean bag advertised as talon-proof. Truth is often somewhere in the middle.

The pre-dawn light hasn’t even begun to creep up the horizon. New delivery envelopes have already been pushed under our sleeping contractors’ door.

Who awakens first?
1. Fairy College graduate Autumn, with honors in horticulture! Responsible, caring and nurturing. Tends to let things slide to keep the peace. Has been called a shrinking violet (and worse). Responsible for enchantments and planning.

2. Sparrowlark wing-kin Apricot, deliverybird and daring dive-bomber! Earnest, expressive and spry. Tends to underestimate risks. Has been called a scatterbrain (and worse). Responsible for speedily transporting her cargo and companion.

Yay, the adventure returns!

Autumn, she's the responsible one.
The only one who remembers how to handle nagical artifact known as the Fedex.

It is said that if the Fedex is mishandled even ONCE, it will curse the deliverer, who will no longer be able to work with that or any Fedex again, and is relegated to lesser deliveries from then on.

Such a clumsy, cursed deliverer is apropiately known as... an UPS!

I wake up at exactly the same time as my fairy companion. Gosh, we’re so in sync, it’s why we make such a good team! That and the contract, but that’s just paper. Autumn is such a nice fairy, and none of the stuff my friends back home said I should worry about ever came true. I’m so glad Autumn and I are friends!

Big streeeeeeeeeeeetch… today’s gonna be great!

I hop off the bean bag, being careful not to catch my talons on it. I can’t afford another one… not right now. I need to save up to buy another pair of snip-proof shorts after Aífe stole my last pair. She’s NOT my friend right now. Maybe Taranis can convince her to give them back to me if I ask nicely. I shouldn’t have spent so much money on this nice nightie… but it’s so cute!

“I’m gonna go take a shower!” I chirp to Autumn. She doesn’t respond. What’s up with her? She’s holding a new envelope that got shoved under the door.

“Ah… um, c-could you wait a minute, please?”

I pause halfway out the door. “But it’s so early, I’ll have the shower all to myself. I’ve got super bedhead”

“Well, I guess, but…” Autumn clears her throat. “Um, no! This is… really important, actually!” She holds out the letter and it’s marked:

EXTREMELY URGENT

“Whoa, nelly!” I gasp. “That must’a come in overnight! No shower for me. C’mon, gimme! We gotta deliver that before the sun comes up so we can get the overnight deliver bonus! We just gotta go inter-city, right?”

“Well, yes, but… do you want to go out like that? In… your nightie? And…”

“C’mon!” I urge. “Really, how many people’re gonna be out before the sun even comes up? And you don’t know any godmothering spells, it takes forever to help me get dressed.”

Autumn wilts at that. She hates when I bring that up. I feel a bit bad at that, but it’s true. I really do appreciate the help she gives me getting dressed, it would take even LONGER than forever to get dressed in fancy city clothes without her help.

But WE GOTTA GO! It’s URGENT!

What do I say next?

1. “C’mon, the more time we spend talking, the longer it’ll take! No one’s gonna see us! Grab on and let’s go go go go go!”
2. “I’m sorry, I didn’ mean to make y’ upset. Could you please help me put something on? Working t’gether we’ll be quick n’ be done in a jiffy!”

“Um… but… but…”

Autumn is clearly VERY nervous about me going out in just my nightie n’ panties. I mean, sure, the design on the butt might be embarrassing, but no one’s gonna see it unless they lift my nightie AND my tailfeathers and even in the big city that’s a big deal!

“C’mon, the more time we spend talking, the longer it’ll take! No one’s gonna see us! Grab on and let’s go go go go go!”

She FINALLY slips the letter into her inventory and grabs on to the scruff of my neck. I throw open the windows and off we go!

“So where are we headed?” I ask, gaining a bit of altitude (but not too much). “Les’ get it over with! This pre-dawn air is CHILLY! Whoo!”

“Um… the instructions said we have to pick up a package first as part of the delivery,” Autumn says. “It’s light, just a kilo or so. Um… it said we’re picking it up from Eve’s Essence… it’s a clothier on the other side of the City Park. And then we need to fly further over there… and then fly back here or somewhere to get clothes… or something…”

“What?!” I squawk. “Ah, shoot! I’m not dressed for this! And that’s so far away! Double shoot!”

“Um…. I can go down and pick up the package,” Autumn offers.

I gotta go FAST! But if I fly too high, I’ll be visible from further away… and worse, the City Guard might notice me if they’re looking inwards from the walls, but that’s not gonna happen, right?

What do I do?

1. Fly high. Risk of being spotted, but the sun isn’t up yet so I’ll be fine. Right?
2. Fly low. Slower and takes more effort, but I won’t be that slow since I just woke up. Right?

1. Flying up high also reduces the risk of anything snagging the nightie and tearing it! Not that it’d be that big of a risk anyway, cuz your early morning flying is SUPER GREAT! Still, better to be safe than to end up with your cute loungewear all torn and tattered.

Fly high, even if they do look up youd be so far away theyd just think you were a bird or something.

Hey, autumn.
If you do run into someone, dont worry!
You can fly between their eyeline and the most vulnerable embarrassing bits of your partner!
Your glow will hide the naughtiest buts. You can be a floating fairy modesty flash.

We gotta go fast. Fast means less time for the sun to rise. Fast means we get our bonus. Fast means nobody sees us!

Autumn grabs the scruff of my neck and tucks herself in under the neckline of my nightie, and I tug it down in front to help hike it up in back. We fly!

Oh no

It’s COLD up here

Plucking my feathers to be a big-city bird feels like a BAD IDEA right now. But sacrifices have to be made in the name of fashion… just remember your roots, Apricot. Remember what it’s like to be warm, and push through it.

The warm glow of the fairy on my neck helps too. She’s so sweet.

We get most of the way to the stopover at Eve’s Essence before I catch a glint of something below us. At the guard tower, a bit of something reflective. Please, please please don’t be paying attention, not with a spyglass! Maybe we got lucky this time?

I’m shivering by the time we arrive at the stopover. We’ve got to pick up the actual package from the store, and it’s not there outside.

“The instructions say to tell the password after knocking to pick up the package,” Autumn says. “Such secrecy…”

Ugh! If I go down there I might get seen like this by anyone walking around this early… and I’d definitely get seen by the shopkeeper! But if Autumn goes down, she would have to carry the package up using her inventory magic, and she’s not very efficient at that kind of magic. If the package is too big and heavy she might lose her mana – and her dust with it.

What do I do?

1. Go down to pick up the package as a team
2. Send Autumn down herself and then she flies back up to the roof

2 for lewd bad decisions later. It’ll make the return trip more exciting if Autumn doesn’t have enough fairy dust to help us later when it is lighter out and more people are awake

Also if the gaurd spotted you, he could have saw where you landed and is coming to investigate, you gotta hide for now while Autumn does her thing
