Trying hard not to freak out over that so anything she knows would be something we’d all be very grateful to learn.

Calmly explain that this place is your home/hive, that your sisters are violently mutating into 'red liquid forms' from an unknown source/cause, that the communication chain broke down, and that you're on general emergency duty to fix things before the tower.

Return grub, offer her ride down to meet your boss and discuss what is going on.

Accept the apology and compliment her finesse, followed by asking her role/job.

Ask for her name / give your own, Casanova. And that of your hive/society/sisterhood.

Assuming it knows what Iris is / it's a baby of her kin, might be worth asking if its 'normal' for Iris to have an eyeball on its forehead. Mention the similar trait your sisters had when they mutated. Can't rule out that this weirdness is only harming your sisters.

First off, don't panic, but also no touchy in case she is correct.

This 'red madness' could be why she attacked you (instinct taking over?), unless she was legitimately startled / assumed you would mutate on sight or such.

The fact you're talking calmly suggests lucidity/immunity or something else being a trigger/transmission for 'murder mode'. And eyeballs being a common factor.

Potential way to test could be to, uh, have her poke the... Puddle... You left behind and see if it does red stuff.

Ask her how she got here and exactly what she witnessed of the red madness - it's hasty to assume she's causing it. Is the red stuff 'normal' for her kind?

You also might be special in some way, given your freedom to traverse and seemingly no red madness symptoms (assuming there isn't an eyeball growing on your back or something).

The eyeball growth in general is odd. Can she 'see' through it? Maybe what it sees influences mutation/behavior or something, or they're somehow linked.

ok... does this mean the black hive was built on top of the white hive while the white hive slept or is this just what white death ( I don't think we got her name yet) did before she wondered over to black hive?

if black hive was built over white hive it would at least explain how the grubs managed to wonder into black hive by themselves.

It does seem like the black hive either moved in to the empty structure while the white hive slept, or... the black hive came about from the grubs evolving in their absence.

If the black hive has any relation to the white hive, then... this newly-woken white hiver may have done something that resonated with them. Like, we saw that the white grub created red webs. We also know that red matter is a thing in the black hive. If the white hiver did something that was meant to call out or summon her sisters or the grubs, the red matter may have reacted instead.

Shouldn't we ask the white hiver's name?

So, black hivers could be a 'mutant offshoot' of white hivers? And now that a white hiver awoke, some kind of ancient genetic info they broadcast (pheromones?) is causing the black hivers mutations? Kind of like a radio-broadcast message that makes your biology try to do something white-hiver related in a black hiver body (i.e. biologically incompatible), resulting in a tumor, catastrophic system shock or DNA alteration to try 'return' to white hiver form?

It could also be happening in reverse, if the eyeballs are present on both. Maybe the white and red hivers together somehow muddled their genetic info and created the red stuff, woth differing results between them.

So she's injured, and the injury reveals the red matter which looks and smells like the red madness. She thinks her blood is infecting others? I think it's more likely to be the other way around, she simply got infected by the same thing but happens to be immune, or simply strong enough to resist.

Tell her we can't know for sure yet. She said she never saw it before, but surely she's seen injuries among her own kind before? Did they look like that?

Again, we need a full report that we can bring back to your boss. What did she see upon arriving or waking up or whatever?
I guess instead of repeatedly going back and forth through the water tunnel we can look around a bit on this level before going back, though. Her arms also look ridiculously thin/fragile, a thin as strands of silk! Either they're EXTREMLY durable and/or flexible to prevent them snapping like twigs, or I'm overthinking it / it's just the artistic depiction.

On the topic of Iris being hungry, Iris is chewing off her arm-blades. Are those made of weak-but-sharp silk/bone/chitin, or is Iris's bite able to chew through rock/steel?

Probably tell her that before it chews the rest of her armblades ot uselessness.

Ask her if your 'respawn' method (i.e. reforming from a puddle of goo/dissolving into one on death) sounds familiar - maybe her 'Hive' has a similar thing? And might help explain your (assumed) immunity.

She might not be directly responsible in any case. Could be another of her kind/species out there who bled their red liquid in the wrong place, or the red liquid affects her differently than the black hive (i.e. it's a third party of its own).

Is the red liquid is 'normal' for her? Is that her 'normal' blood or is it unusual for her too?

Also, ask her (delicately) about the eye on her forehead / Iris's head. Is it controlled / functional or sort of has a mind of its own, like a parasite or symbiote?
