Your name is Casper LaFoe. Ostensibly, you're here to take an admittance test for the Explorer's Society of Loscadia. The terms of completion are to reach the Lost Shrine of Karsos, hidden somewhere in the Naxenian Valley. Well- okay, maybe not so lost anymore; the society knows precisely where it is, and it's been cleaned out of its more apparent treasures. Hopefuls are supposed to collect one of several society-placed tokens and take a picture of themselves in the main amphitheater.

"Glorious view, isn't it? I've been up here so many times, but this'll be my first actually heading down! Aren't you excited too?"

The enthusiastic bird behind you is Poppy Skypia - a local nature enthusiast (and fellow test-taker) with whom you've ended up partnered. She's been a chatterbox the whole way here, but her infectious chipperness makes it hard to stay mad. It almost makes you feel bad for lying...

... Alright, you're willing to admit to yourself that you're not doing this for the 'right' reasons per se. You're mafioso, here on a secret assignment from your capo, and this test happens to have the same destination. Plus, at the cost of a small registration fee, you've been given all the Supplies you'll likely need, which is nice. Poppy's carrying for both of you; it's fascinating how much upper-body strength birds have, considering their reputation for having glass jaws.

However, this assignment wasn't originally yours to carry out. Getting it into your mitts was a hell of a thing.
> Pick One:

You stole a glance (or perhaps something more) and took some initiative. Hell, it was initially a different capo's lead on the old don's legacy. Your own boss was equally pissed at how his colleague tried to hide this and smug about how his best spy uncovered the deception. He even handed you the assignment, though you suppose having a quick wit and a lot of fieldwork experience doesn't hurt on that front.
> If you're a Scout, explain one scenario where you feel truly in your element.

You won the position in a fight, 'fair and square.' You may not look like it, but you're fearsome in battle. When the capo announced his intention to chase the don's legacy, several of you stepped forward to claim this assignment. You all settled things the old-fashioned way. In the end, you reminded everyone of why you're the one who leads the charge in turf-wars.
> If you're a Fighter, name one thing you can bring to a fight like nobody else.

You had to talk your way into getting it. When your capo told you all he had a lead on the don's legacy, you were shocked to hear he was planning to give the assignment to Benny the Brute. However, after many conversations over dinner, you were finally able to convince your capo that you'd be better suited for what can only be described as an expedition. That big lug would have gotten lost inside an hour, anyway.

You won the position in a fight.
You have a strange and partially-explained ability, called "Flickering". When your adrenaline is high, your body appears to twitch intensely, making it hard for your opponents to read your tells. But at higher levels of aggression, you almost appear to be two men loosely interposed on one another - and hit twice as hard to match.

You're a scrapper by trade; you dart in and out of combat, throwing around scratches and bruises to all involved, but as the fight intensifies your blows begin to break bones and tear ligaments. At the height of your intensity you can easily throw a man twice your weight to the ground, though this usually knocks the steam out of your engines.

Fighter. There's a lot of considerations to a fight, but your brute strength makes the difference in a pinch.

You are a Scout. You feel most at home collecting documents or looking for small details in a room. Such attention to minutiae is what keeps you ahead of everyone else in the gang.

You got this job in a fight, nobody was gonna snake an opportunity like this out your hands.

You had to talk your way into getting it.
Your voice is absolutely sublime for people to hear, or at least that's what you've been told. Some say it's the great confidence in the way you speak, others say your voice has a soothing tone they could listen to for hours on end, a few have even outright admitted they find your voice arousing to hear. What exactly is it? Why does your voice have such a powerful effect on anyone who listen to you? What is it about your speech that could sway the heart of a cold-blooded murderer?

You have a really cute Irish accent.

And the thing you're known best for is your endurance. No mater how hard the beating, how devastating the blow, you ALWAYS get back up.

RE:IS quest? Ooh, neat!

You stole the dossier with this operation's info from your boss's most irritating rival capo. Some may call you a Scout, but you like to think of yourself more as a Beguiler, an expert in "social engineering" as some call it. Just act like you belong and you know what you're doing, and even the most paranoid organizations will let you in half the time. Another reason you got the assignment; you think the Explorer's Society just lets anyone with a little money run an expedition? No way, but make yourself out to be a promising young upstart and they'll practically fall over each other to bring you in.
