--and am gently shunted back by a third presence forcibly shoving itself into this bubble of paraspace.
~Hello, no, I'm here to put a stop to this,~ says... Voidsong, who has just... shown up uninvited? What? How did she even find this? I don't even know where this is!
Abzu looks surprised but still gives an air of self-control, holding her despair closer to her. ~Excuse me, who are you--~
~This doesn't concern you, gene sack, out of my sight! 1045! We need to talk. Now.~
As I mentioned earlier, Voidsong is cloaked in an impressive if intangible psionic storm, her paraspacial projection manifest as something closer to how she'd wish to be in reality.
Which is, unsurprisingly, larger and flashier.
~1045, you were and for now remain one of my greatest works, and if you think I'm not listening to your every praise of that talentless salikai brat who caught me on an off day, you clearly don't understand how capable of multitasking I am! I'm watching you constantly!~
This... is a straight up lie, I can tell when she's poking around in my psyche and she's largely absent. I don't even bother saying this, I just look at her with unexaggerated disbelief.
She writhes uncomfortably and breaks eye contact (or the metaphor of eye contact, whatever that means here). ~You were so quick to discard me, 1045, so quick to leave me to my death!~
~You threw me out of the spire.~
~You betrayed me the moment I fell! You betrayed the Kiter Empire!~
~So did you.~
~Unimportant! What is important is you were years of my best work, strewn together from a base of nothing but whispers and murmurs and fleeting sightings, do you know how little I had to work with?! Do you know how carefully I poured over the experiences and lives of the dead to select the ones that would shape you best?!~
~No, it's fine, I can wait, thanks for asking,~ mutters Abzu, sitting back down on her chair and rolling her eyes.
~Silence, you inconsequential rat thing! I-- wait, I thought you were all dead anyway. Huh. Guess Gol isn't doing as good a job as he says he is--~
Abzu just glares silently at Voidsong, an overwhelming sea of hate, anger and sorrow threatening to break free violently.
Voidsong trails off and snaps her attention back to me.
~SO! 1045! I have name suggestions for a start, Lackey is just depressing to hear. Seizer, Torrent, Maelstrom, Typhoon, Tempest, Flukebiter actually no forget that last one. Forget it. Forget the name thing.~
I realise there's something eerily familiar about Voidsong's particular cadence here. ~Are you drunk?~
~Only with power! And the juiced up neural tissue of about a dozen neno fi paraspacial manipulators, mixed with a hefty dose of compound K-4 and all the remnant nootropics I had in a ball pouch. No intoxicants! None!~
~So you're still in an altered state of consciousness.~
~Don't judge me!! Do you know how hard it is to snoop on paraspacial communication with just focus alone?! This is a brief diversion and then I'm off to do the actual things that I needed to here!~
~ENOUGH!~ Abzu throws her chair at the Voidsong storm. It crumbles into vapor before it even reaches the clouds. ~It's creatures like you that ordered the death of my people! Who live without care or concern, and consume as they please, just like the Khephallii, completely uninterested in the world and those around them unless they happens to ever even hint at saying 'no'!~
~I really can't bring myself to care, rat thing,~ groans Voidsong, looking back at me. ~Where were we?~
~Did... did you actually have a point?~
~Yes! Stop following that wretched salikai larva and come back to your rightful place at my side!~
~Oh. No.~
~But why not?!~
~There's... so many reasons. I don't have time to list them all--~
~FINE THEN! If you like that salikai so much why don't you screw it?! I'm done! I have more important conversations to intrude on anyway!~
Voidsong disappears in a spectacle of psychic fire and lightning, and then it's just Abzu and myself left.
~...so, I...~ Abzu taps her snout a few times, trying to recall what we were talking about. ~Right. Yes. May I come to the Heartland Structure?~
~Do you have food with you?~
~If I could bring anything with me I'd be bringing my clothes, for one thing. No, just myself. I do, however, know where a cache of resources can be found near that structure. That is the closest thing I can bring with me, and you will need me to find it. I can't just tell you where it is. It won't respond without the correct key.~
Hm. Pull her to me, or cut this conversation and return my attention to my probably drooling physical body?
