“All alone, so quiet. This is a dream, and it’s how my dreams have been for the past week. Alone. And quiet. “

“This is not normal.
I didn’t know dreams could be so dreadful. I don’t want to dream anymore. But I have no control over it. “

“I’m starting to get a little bit afraid of sleeping.
It used to be so pleasant. I can still feel it in my bones.”

“When they finally end, it’s always such a relief. I can’t describe, but it’s like... being... free again. Which is very ironic.”

The fox clumsily looks for the lightswitch in the dark.

Your name is September.

It’s been a week since you’ve woken up. You’re not sure where you are, or... what happened, but they tell you not to worry, they’ll fix you. You don’t remember anything before the past week. All of your memories as of now start from the moment you woke up until now. You have a pretty good memory, they say.

Your body hurt really bad when you woke up the first time. And you still can’t forget the feeling. It’s like if you had felt it MORE than just once, it’s as if you had felt it over and over and over. They say it had something to do with your dreams. You doubt it though. All you can dream of now is... nothing. A vast, empty nothing.

Today, they told you that you’ll be finally able to leave your room for the first time to meet all your fellow inmates. “Inmate” is a very unusual word, but they say it’s nothing like what you might think; it was chosen due to the lack of a better word for them. According to the men in white clothing, they’re mostly very nice.

And today, the fox meets more people, too.

Check the window and look for escape options.

Did the men in white mention anything about your belongings?

>Do the waffle hustle!
But... but... but there are so many things to inspect in the room!!
And... and... so little time before they come back! They’re on their way already! September can’t just waste time! He can’t...

Ugh... Fine.
September will do it, once he figures out what it even is. Limited memory, remember? It IS on his to-do list, however.

>>899446
>First, sing the song of your people.
The fox doesn’t know many SONGS, considering his memory is very, very limited as of now.
Although as he doesn’t WANT to leave you hanging, he awkwardly hums a melody he’s had on the back of his mind for a while.

September nods and looks at the posters like a good fox.

The posters are glued on top of each other. He assumes the second poster is not important.

>Check the window and look for escape options.
September heard something about NOT being allowed to open the windows when alone in the room, but he still takes a quick peek.
The window leads to a huge, bright, white... hallway. The fox has no idea where it is, but it’s NOT outside. He isn’t sure why there’s a window of THIS kind leading to a hallway and not outside, but the fox lets it slide.

Needless to say, not a very HANDY escape option.

Yes, in fact, they did! I mean, sort of.
As far as September knows, anything he had when he got here was confiscated. They say it’s not good for him to look at those things. The fox doesn’t think he had anything particularly important with him that night though. At least he hopes so.

The fox looks through the room for anything that he could use to escape, and out of options, he opens the drawer.
Inside the drawer, there are a few items: what seems to be ear plugs, a big tube of cream which he ASSUMES is toothpaste, a toothbrush, and a roll of string, the sewing kind.

September hears steps coming closer from the hallway right towards his door.
The fox might have time to sneak a few things into his pocket still. Two things in specific. No more than two. He needs help with picking which ones to take.

- String
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste...?
- Ear Plugs

September wants help with more than that, though.

“H-How do I behave? How to talk to them? What questions should I ask?” The fox asks nervously, staring at the roof as if trying to look into the eyes of those who speak from the void. ”How should I deal with the men in white, those who rule over me?”
>>

Take the yarn.

Are those earplugs or are they pills? If they're pills, I'd take them. Otherwise, I'd take the toothpaste.

As far as the men in white go, you should lie down on the bed and pretend you're asleep.
Alternatively, if you have to talk to them... just act calm. Talk to them like they're your friends.
Ask them if you can stay here forever.

These guys are probably in the same situation, giving you some easy common ground to make small talk about. Try "Hey I really don't know what's going on. How about you?"

Also make shank from toothbrush

September nods and takes the yarn, putting it in his pocket quickly.
>Are those earplugs or are they pills? If they're pills, I'd take them. Otherwise, I'd take the toothpaste.
They... don’t look... particularly edible. If those are pills, September bets they taste horribly. And he isn’t sure if he’ll find any use for... I mean... pills. However, that’s some pretty good thinking regardless. If they’re indeed pills, putting them in his ears would be silly.

>>899506
>Also make shank from toothbrush
Yes, that’s brilliant!! September isn’t... necessarily crafty, but he’s certain he could pull that off with a lot of work!
Although... the fox isn’t sure if he would be brave enough to STAB someone. Maybe just for threat, perhaps? That could work too!

After a few seconds thinking this over, September takes the YARN and the TOOTHBRUSH, as suggested by both of the voices.

As the fox fiddles in his pocket, he also notices he’s carrying a LEAF, for some reason. September isn’t sure why. The leaf has a soothing and somewhat comforting tone of lime green. It looks vivid.

The fox keeps the leaf.

September nods and jumps on his bed as quickly as he can, hiding under the covers and pretending to sleep. He makes sure to turn off the lights BEFORE he jumps on the bed, too.

The fox watches as the tall wolf enters the room. They’re here.

“Morning. I hope you slept well.”
Their voice is cold and deep, it lacks any kind of emotion.

“I... I... Yes, I did, in fact. I slept pretty well. Yeah!”
The fox stutters nervously at first, but manages to end the sentence in a more natural tone.

“Good, I suppose. No dreams tonight?”
“N-No, sir, no dreams.” - The fox hugs the blankets a bit more as he speaks.

The fox thinks it's working.
As he watches the wolf, he can't help but pull his covers a bit more. Something about him is purely unsettling. But being friendly is working.

“Good.” The wolf takes a step closer, causing the fox to flinch for a second. ”They’re waiting for you outside. Make a good impression. There are four places you could visit right now; pick whatever makes you more comfortable. I know this must be very overwhelming to you, but I’m here to make sure you’ll be able to adapt in no time.”

>Ask them if you can stay here forever.

The fox takes a deep breath.

“Sir...?”
The wolf turns around, a bit puzzled, and stares at the fox. “Yes?”

“C-Can I stay here forever?”

The wolf stares at him, with what seems to be... genuine surprise, quiet. For a split second, it’s almost as if he raised his eyebrow. Almost as if he showed some emotion, finally. The fox felt it.

But for some reason, it wasn’t a good feeling.

“... I’ll be waiting for you at the end of the hall.”

The wolf turns around and walks through the door. His pace was a bit faster than the usual.

As the wolf walks away, the fox quickly gets up and turns the lights back on.

September assumes you’re talking about the other inmates?
The fox nods, he agrees. Perhaps they’re here for similar reasons? It would be nice to ask, but it’d be also nice to gather more items if he wanna be prepared to escape. The fox.... can’t decide.

The wolf gave him four different locations he could proceed to, and a brief description of each one too. The fox fills in the blanks.

Big Hall - A huge room with couches and such, which nearly all the safe halls lead to; the second biggest room, but not as loud as the Cafeteria. It’s good for meeting people, but not as good for finding new items, he supposes. It must be closely watched.

Cafeteria - The biggest room by far, and also the most crowded. This is the best place to talk to people, but not the best place if you don’t like crowds or seek silent and calm environments.

Safe Halls - A few long halls which the inmates can freely walk in and hang out, none of them lead to any important rooms. September’s room is located in one of those safe halls.

The Corner - A small room filled with a bunch of books, but not big enough to be called a library. The wolf seemed fairly displeased to call it by that name, but he says there’s not a better name to refer to it as of now. It’s... quiet. Not many people there.

The fox wants help picking what place to go next.
All of those locations will have items that will help the fox somehow. It’s up to you to decide which one would be more useful.

Go to the end of the hall like the guy said. And then... Cafeteria. Gotta talk to other people first to find out about the stuff.
