???: Child of Si'Fud. It overjoys my heart to welcome you to the Hatchery. For so long i have waited. I was afraid to be forgotten, but your presence here means my struggle was worth it.Is the war finally over? Has Ignis Cor been finally defeated?

You are seriously confused on what is going on.

You turn to S'shi'mh to see if she can help out in making sense of the situation.

Unfortunately, she seems to be as lost as you are.

maybe? he's gonna have to describe this ignis cor fella to you.
also he kinda has a bunch of people chanting around his skull right now.

"Hey slowpoke, you're being worshiped by a death cult and there's an entire town of infectious demon raiders coming to get us. WHAT DO?"

"No idea who that is. Someone unleashed a horrible plague of demons that is wiping out the entire country, and we found your remains being worshiped by the cultists responsible."

I'm... sorry to tell you this. But you have been forgotten. I don't know who you are. Maybe it is fate that guided me here, but I am ignorant of things you name.

This is a great ruin, inhabited by demon and their allies. I seek to thwart them.

Tell him you're not sure what he means, but the other dragons are dead or in hiding. Demons are invading all over the place now, hunting down any eggs they can find. You protect one now, and you hope there are more.

You clear your throat, and address the dragon.

???: "Yes, young priest. You can talk. Do not be afraid i am not as strict as the other dragons when it comes to etiquette."

You... thank him for the consideration. And then you proceed to tell him you have absolutely no idea who he is or what he is talking about.

Fang'ehm'mel'mah: "I... uh... You mean to tell me you have never heard of me? Fang'ehm'mel'mah? Elder of the Hatchery?"

You confirm that. And you also point out that you have no knowledge about any war, as the dragons haven't been around for centuries. As far as you know S'shi'mh and him are the only dragons around.

Fang'ehm'mel'mah: "But if there are no more dragons that means Ignis Cor won. Has the demon conquered the lands? Are you perhaps the last survivors?"

His voice breaks a little, while still souding powerful, the dragon sadness almost becomes tangible in the mindlink.

You tell him that the lands are under the rule of humanoids such as humans, elves and dwarves. That demons have started to reappear though.

You tell him about what happened in Miner's Rest. And about your escape.

Fang'ehm'mel'mah: "Then they were sent back to the other side of the Veil. Still..."

You keep going on telling him that you kind of think that whoever summoned the demons might have already breached into the temple, as you tell him about the hooded figures that are chanting around his skull.

Fang'ehm'mel'mah: "Don't be silly Crab-catcher. No demon or creature can enter this temple as long as my last spell is active. What you saw are just simulacra i created to keep myself sane after i was forced to bind myself to what was left of my body after..."

You feel the mindlink grow colder as the mud dragon pauses.

Fang'ehm'mel'mah: "I do sense a group of creatures at the boundaries of the Hatchery right now. They are protected by the water rune. I imagine those are your companions?"

yes, that is the other reason we came, an illness has appeared. but your primary goal is to learn the ritual to hatch S'shi'mh

Yes and tell him about the curse. It seemed to originate from these halls, was that a misdirection? Or was it a lingering curse from the war?

>No demon or creature can enter this temple as long as my last spell is active.
Your last spell is by your own admission centuries old. Is it not possible it could have failed, or been circumvented, or perverted in some way in all that time? Your enemies have had a long time to try, and to learn.

...what was your last spell?

>You feel the mindlink grow colder
Do you disprove?

>They are protected by the water rune. I imagine those are your companions?
Likely. I am not aware of another group protected by a water rune. An avian, a human, and two dwarves?

Please teach us the ritual. Also maybe those are our friends? Probably.

You tell the dragon that you came here with your companions, that the water rune was crafted to protect from the sickness that is affecting everyone else

Fang'ehm'mel'mah: "Sickness? What are you talking about."

S'shi'mh: "It is true, Elder. We came from a small town of miners that managed to breach part of the caves that lead here. All of them have been affected by your magic."

Fang'ehm'mel'mah: "..."

Fang'ehm'mel'mah: "That means the power of my ward is fading they should have all drop dead if they were to intrude in my hatchery without being invited!"

You kind of point out that it sounds like a brutal remedy for defense.

Fang'ehm'mel'mah: "For what i knew Demons were roaming the land while i casted it. And all our servants would know how to counteract it. Like you did."

You take a deep breath before telling the large mud dragons that there are Demons that are currently destroying the miners town and that they might approach soon.

Fang'ehm'mel'mah: "Then there is no time to lose. Fetch your companions and reinforce my wards. In the meantime i'll confer with lady S'shi'mh in preparation for her hatching ritual. "

You try to argue that you have absolutely no idea how to reinforce the wa...

You wake up, laying on the floor and with your mouth tasting like moss and dust.

Fang'ehm'mel'mah has kicked you out of the Mindlink.

You have no idea how much time has passed, but the invisibility potion that you gulped is still active it seems.

okay you have no idea but your other companions may, hurry back to them and confer.

If the potion is still in effect, it you can't have been out that long. You can head back to your companions, but they also won't be able to HEAR you due to the other potion, and since you don't write either, you really don't have a way to communicate with them right now. May as well take a moment to look around here.

Leave the egg with the chanters then? Seems reasonable if they're nonhostile. Get back to your friends and mention that apparently the ward plague is a defensive measure unrelated to the demons.

Blame the weird from the eternal fire, probably.

remember: no mentioning, telling, or saying anything for at least half an hour AFTER the invisibility wears off. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
