Here you'll find the nicest of neighbors, sunniest of days and greenest grasses.

But before we start you off on your way, there's just one small thing we need to know about you first.

This place does have a very 1950s vibe. It might not exactly be appropriate to ask her about her marital status, especially if there's anything amiss by those social or moral standards. Say, if she's a widow or divorcee. Or if she's pregnant out of wedlock. Or if she ate her husband.

She did introduce herself as Ms, which is more neutral than Miss or Mrs, and was perhaps a hint to not ask.

But there's no guarantee that we'll see Moonin before we see Luna. Moonin only came by our house to welcome us to the neighborhood and since she already did that, she's got no reason to come by our house again.

But I do agree that we should take the bag with us. We can return it to Luna in the teacher's lounge before classes start when we come to the school tomorrow.

Perhaps you could helpfully look into her bag to see if there's anything specific she might be in need of?

Of course, it wouldn't do for a gentleman to get entangled with a half-naked lady in the middle of the streets, so while she is in her state of hysteria, you should do your utmost to avoid contact. This might be easier said than done, unless you remembered to wear your quantum socks to work today.

Moonin suggested that she did not know any Ms. Luna, there may be more going on here than appearances suggest. Perhaps collusion, or memory alteration, or reality trickles as suggested by the "soggy sock in a dry marsh" theory of reality alteration, although the practical impact observed here is well beyond that of the mass-displaced half-pair normally produced by such forces, even though the metaphysical impact of halves pairs is clearly beyond the scope of most scales...

We take Luna back to our place, let her wash up , calm her nerves and re-catch her bearings.

"Yesterday a little later after we...talked.... noticed i forgot my handbag, so naturally came back to the school."

"On the way back i began to have the suspicion i was being followed, and before i knew it i was jumped by a group of men dressed like the one you saw."

"They had put me in restraints and stuck me with something until i blacked out "

"When I finally came to I was nude in their mobile with some other people, all of whom I've never seen before, all sorts; children, elderly men, and women all in shackles like mine."

"By some waxing miracle we managed to escape....most of us at least."

All I could think to do is run until I remembered when I came across you...whatever the put in me was still in my head, I-I wasn't thinking straight!...I couldn't tell...

"i didn't know..."

"But I wasn't going to take any risk."

"It was too late when i finally got a good look at you,but your killer, they were something i never seen before."

Show her the letter and explain it was accidentally delivered to you. When you called to tell them you got someone else’s mail, they started acting like a salesperson and tried to convince you to buy a wendigo, to which you promptly hung up the phone in disgust.

Then tell Luna about Moonin suddenly being your maid and acted like she didn’t know who Luna was when we asked if she was supposed to be Luna’s maid.

Presumably the organisation is using identity-replacement magic to cover their abductions. Stick one of you own in the victim's place and then have them investigate and isolate potential additional victims before leaving in an unnoteworthy fashion. But then we crossed their wires by being a natural identity-replacer, who replaced our murderer, who had already replaced Ms. Luna...

Well whatever their plan is they might have some, toothy backup in the van. Ok I suggest we mix it up both options a bit. We sneak out the back, loop around the yard and scope out the situation; if we see everyone in the van going into my house, we make for the van and swipe it (presuming nobody's in it) and leave them with attempted breaking and entering. It might be a tight squeeze to fit in the front but if either of you ladies are comfortable driving I can stick in the back of the van...assuming there's no other 'surprises' in there.

What about Charon and Moonin? We can't just leave them with those shmucks! Take a u-turn wide, see if we can throw our pursuer off a bit and we can tail back to get our friends! If we're lucky we can get them both without having to stop as long as we get close to where they are.

We question Atlas about his plans.

"Well it seems that your ride is out of commission, i could head on over into town and get us a pickup truck." He suggest

Before anyone has time to respond Charon eagerly adds

"And we could go check out that house, to get away from the monst- the the mosquitoes! whoever lives there is friendly right Moonin?"

Different town. Roseport, not Rosewood. The swamp town. If I'm not misunderstanding anything.

Both Charon and the child seems to be getting excited from the smell

She sympathetically states, while coaxing our companions with another platter of food. Soon after Luna readily pipes up to end the looming silence, by prompting small talk with the woman.

Consider appealing to her sense of paranoia. These people are coming for peopel at random, watching them, controlling their lives. She could be next, she just needs to get their attention. She let's us go, we run away, maybe escape, maybe people 'can' escape, if they are prepared, and she'll prepare, won't she... If they track us, she tells them we spent the night and moved on, she never saw the bounties, she lives out of the way afterall, and the news can't have been out for long. We were cagey, nervous, didn't seem to trust her. She's just one more unremarkable witness, instead of the person who won our trust, someone we talked to, someone who knows... If she wants to avoid her and her kin just vanishing one day, then she'd best have as little to do with these people as possible...

Okay.
Instead of treating this like some horror movie, I'm just going to say that her methods are completely counterintuitive. Acting this way is not going to endear people to her. In fact, all this will accomplish is that either she'll successfully keep us here and we'll either be dead and unable to provide her with the company she's so desperate for or we'll be alive and resentful of her for keeping us prisoner, which would be entirely unpleasant for everyone involved. Or on the other hand, she could stop behaving this way and let us have a choice. Her first impression was quite good, and she has been very hospitable. We wouldn't mind having someone like her around.
In fact, with us on the run from the slavers and in desperate need of a place to bunker down and operate out of, her home might suffice. That would satisfy all parties, yes? We get a hideout, and she gets to have some company.

Ask Luna if she’s ok? She’s sweating like crazy. Didn’t she have a nightmare or something?

>All the while Luna talks we feel a peculiar rhythmic tingling sensation coming from our thigh.
Please tell me that’s the cellphone in our pocket and not something that’s crawling up our leg.

Then again, it could be our dick because we’re turned on from seeing Luna in her underwear. I don’t know.

We're pretty sure it's a fancy phone, or maybe a radio? Secret technology from a secret organization. Whatever it is, it told us that "rogue cryptids", you guys, are being looked for by their entire local force in a ten Mile radius of the city.

In more unexpected news, Atlas flew away in the night. Probably won't return, after being disagreed with, but optimism has worked in small doses.

I am completely on my rocker thank you ladies. Also Miss Luna? You're looking absolutely stunning I must say.
So, from what I just heard from this, I think it's some kind of radio system, seems like our pursuers might've located another escapee in the city...either Mr. Atlas, the woman they sent after us, or someone knew. But whatever's going down, they're regrouping at their base in the city to scope in on them. That being said, they might be on higher alert than we thought, or they may be distracted finding this escapee.

We fill our posse in on the tiny radio's message, and compliments Luna's new look.

"~Thank you!~" Luna practically sings, while not so subtly flaunting herself "Lavandula me this little getup and with this rest i got time to fix my...um uh haha...never mind."

"But if that little radio of yours is telling you all that, we should not stick around too long" She adds while heading toward the kitchen. "it's a shame Altlas couldn't stick around [spoiler] but honestly he was a tad unsettling to me. [/spolier] I hope he's ok though."

"If those thugs are headed for Merkitime City they're a good skip away. They probably got occupied by somethin' else i reckon" Charon adds before making her way into the kitchen.

"umm...no they...say Charon! how much do you know about spiders?"
"not too much, why?"
"No reason. Lets, lets just enjoy each others company for now."

With a quick scan of the room Lavandula locks her eyes(?) if you'd even call them that on us.

Well, very young spiders eat their siblings if it's feasible. And some species have the children eat the mother or the mother eat some of the children.
And she seems to be a spider-person, possibly with some sort of fungal infection given her eyes.

I think the problem with even outdated info is that we put Lavandula at risk. And Atlas has less reason than most that know her to sell her out. So we need to know if we can trust her.

Externally: stall. We need to get someplace safe-ish before making a deal. Plus it gives us time to sober up.

Also money is good, money is also a useful tool for getting out of bad situations, but we also need to know more about those grey guy slavers. Maybe this shape shifter knows about them.

It's all good. Given the circumstances, her actions were completely understandable.
Let's kick things off with a round of introductions.
Now, it would seem that they all have some relatable goals, i.e. not getting murdered or enslaved. Maybe they could help each other out. What's say they help each other get out of the city, go find the mother's child, then find a way to bet these crazy, evil bastards off their collective back?
That sound like a good deal?

Glad to see her not drugged up and angry.
And glad to see the nurse is fine. Maybe we should apologize for getting her mixed up in so many situations.

All good ideas.

So were these creeps using her daughter as leverage?

Perhaps ragdolling is just her natural response to threats?
Do you want to meet up with your partner first? Maybe he'll come along, at the very least he'll know where you've gone.
>>

Just one more suggestion: they might want to bring the nurse along. Those slavers are nasty and none too picky, and she could end up in hot water if she stays.

With everyone calmed down we begin to discuss a way to escape the city and help the woman find her daughter.

The woman's accent is far too thick for us to understand her name and the nurse can only communicate with squeaky noises. Nicknames may be in order.

We should get going and make our way back to meet...

"But I hold no animosity towards you three, you've helped us in fact. Now if you'll excuse us we'll take our leave"

before finally stepping away she locks eyes with us and almost teases

"And Mr. Atlas before any of you try anything brash, you should consider the whereabouts of your leggy friend. He doesn't really seem like the type to show up to things late does he? Maybe something bad happened to him. If I were you I'd check in on him. and I would hurry

She says before beginning to leave

Damn it. These bastards are clever.
They are absolutely using Irvine as bait for a trap. We could try to save him, but they'll be ready for us, and I doubt we could take them all. We could run, but that could cost Irvine his life or worse.

>you, animals...
Wow. That is astoundingly racist. Do you actually hear yourself talk? You abduct people, modify their bodies against their will, threaten their children, credibly, and to top it all off you apparently include some mind-altering stimulant to undermine their normally calm demeanour, and then get surprised when they reasonably deduce that putting you down hard and fast is the only practical means of dealing with your disturbing wealth of resources and ludicrously blatant evil. You call us animals because you think that we can't control ourselves. I call you monster because you hurt and harm and destroy when you clearly have no comprehension of impartial analysis and probably haven't even bothered make-believing some arbitrary pseudo-science to blindly reinforce your pre-established delusions of laughably unsubstantiated superiority. Just because your instincts tell your to control doesn't make them any less instincts, or you any less of an unthinking feral beast.

Sounds reasonable to me. Let's take flight while the little dame and the big dame pull Irvine's chestnuts out of the fire.

We should tell them this before we leave so they don't think we're betraying them.

Because the daughter is with our buddies, whose location we just unwittingly gave to the bad guys, and we can fly. So we can get there faster to warn them.

You’re currently flying Air Atlas and it’s a wonderful night with beau- It’s terrible. It’s all terrible.

You’re flying through the frigid night mixed up in all this shit that aint got nothing to do with you, Now you and your buddy are in trouble.

You don’t got too long before you tire out, so you gotta think make it quick. Why did we come up here again?
