This thread having fallen off the main page due to having received no replies for nearly a full day, I am going to end it early here. It's interesting that we ended up with a clean 12/12 tie, since I was sure there would at least be a small lead for one of them Therefore, it falls to me to make the tie-breaking vote.
After some difficult consideration, I have decided that it will more fun to do a quest with Trace.
I came to this decision in part from things people have said in this thread. Aataz is still deeply special to me, having been my PC in a long tabletop campaign that ran two years before concluding, and I will definitely want to visit him again some day. But I don't think he is right for a quest at this time. There are several reasons, like that having to conform to the rule sets of a tabletop game to faithfully recreate him in a text-based decision thread being uncertain in viability. The designs of Aataz and some of the people that will have to appear are also very complicated (his full battle garb involves robes, a staff, a bag, many potions and a magical charisma boosting circlet). His dragon girlfriend has also silver scales, and since this will be primarily a flat colored quest with minor shading due to my relative coloring inexperience, I don't really feel I can do her justice. She's simply too shiny for me to deal with as a novice artist.
By contrast, Trace has a very simple design, as do most of the characters in his setting. Since the universe is basically 'cartoon sci-fi', I can also have loose rules for what does and doesn't work, and things can be silly and fun as needed to break the tension. Anything with Aataz will have that undertone of a concrete world setting with rules and deep-set structure. Trace's quest will definitely be more about having fun and adventure rather than working with a huge platter of things that Aataz has to deal with on a daily basis.
I'm looking forward to working on this, I hope everyone else enjoys it too.
