The cycle must begin again.

Civilizations unmarred, but time still passes as we go on.

Technology lost. Alliances returning to what they were before.

A select few remember the past. They are those who are fated to be part of it forever.

Perhaps you are one of the few who escaped.

Or maybe your death marks the end of a different life in the next cycle.

Whatever the case is, this place feels dangerous.

It appears to be a forest in the midst of autumn, swathes of orange all around in the midst of a chilly season, or perhaps it was this way all along.

Trunks of the trees unseen are massive, positively ancient in their origins, stretching far into the darkness above.

By your feet, on the ground, life clings on in certain places. Perhaps this is what has adapted to their painfully dark surroundings.

Speaking of the darkness, far away there is a noise.

Blades clashing.

Going towards them means going into danger, surely. But it's your best chance of finding your bearings.

Running away could grant greater safety, if only for a time. There is no telling what beasts you may see if you linger for too long.

>Examine self

I'm not much to look at, a Grey's.

This body was not made for anything but speed and brutality.

Skill is our component of violence and protection, a means to an end.

We are the shock of our people, the sheer force behind all assaults. It's hard not to fall into the kind of fighting mood that is required to survive.

Our path is a bloody one. Yet that is why we catch the eye of the other species.

My symbol flickers wildly between signs, examining far into the distance of the fight as we approach.

>Approach, cautiously

The scene is a ferocious one, if you can really call it that.

A band of men, at least six of them surround the tall figure wielding various weapons, tools, and all dressed in thick protective armor.

It's a development of their culture, a tradition; The humans protect themselves in their advancements in order to stay ahead of the curve.

Although there are times when it doesn't matter.

The other taller figure appears to be one of our own? It's difficult to tell at such a far distance. We are not the same height as him.

He is dressed in thick finery and in his hands wields a massive knife-like weapon. A single swing could likely cleave not only through armor and mail, but flesh and bone clean through.

For all we know it could be some sort of land dispute between king and men, or perhaps it is something far more important on the lines here.

We have to pick a side, if we wish to get involved.

Attacking the humans could very well cause a distraction and give the tall figure the edge he needs to wipe out these men.

Although attacking the large figure could provide an important third flank to the humans, and give them the advantage to stop him.

Yell 'ayy lmao' and see whose response you like better. Support that side.
>>

do you need to get involved? maybe just sit back and watch a little and see if we can't learn more about what's the fighting about. I don't like just charging blindly into a fight we know nothing about.

Don't interfere. We have no context for this battle, so picking a side would be well and truly reckless. What if the side we chose were traitorous and we're back-stabbed? What if the side we fight against has allies who seek vengeance against us? Wait until the battle is over and then approach. Offer whatever services the victor is in need of in exchange for their assistance in return.

simple, just walk out into the open so they see you, if whoever shows hostility first will be your target. they humans would need to split off to fight the both of you, while they would need to shift focus. normally losing surprise is a bad idea but in this case it's a reverse surprise.

>Make 'Ayy Lamo' your battlecry.

Not only would that be a bad idea to yell anything at all, having a nonsensical battlecry related to aliens would be kind of stupid, don't you think?

>Walk out into the open, but don't engage.

Seems like a solid enough plan. Don't pick sides, see who does what.

Two of the men from the crowd of fighters turn towards you and ready their weapons in a most menacing fashion, however they don't seem to attack or advance father than they need to.

One wields a sword, and though it isn't obvious, it is adorned with runes that so faintly display themselves underneath the metal.

The other wields a spear, evidently the most inexperienced of the group. However spears are a dangerous weapon and any peasant could stab you through with one. Be weary.

Suddenly the knight with the sword speaks up; "Stay back fool, you don't know what or who you are toying with. You'll regret it."

His voice is deep, old, centered. Perhaps he's been through this sort of conflict before.

>Who are 'we'?

You'll find out soon enough.

The fight continues to evolve with the loss of a flank.

Seems the two other knights had made a mistake and allowed this king free movement.

It costs two men their lives.

The blade the male held moved faster than the eye, not only causing the instant goring and halving of two men, but pieces of their armor to fly into the air like shrapnel.

He'd utterly cleaved their shield, protection, bodies and move like nothing.

The rest of the men either charge or back away, furious or intimidated.

It's still not too quite clear who is on who's side, if the two men are either assaulting you or trying to prevent you from dying a very very early death.

It's likely a good idea and to follow in the footsteps of the crowned male or simply agree to help the two knights.

Both options have their merits and disadvantages.

I don't like either of them but I'm curious what happens if you kick crown guy in the dick while he's exposing himself in that chuunibyou pose.

No sense in letting the bloodletting go to waste! I like that heavy guy's halberd. Let's take it.
>>
No. 783585 ID: 7f1407

The winner seems to be clear and siding with the losers doesn't sound like a good idea. Knights are greedy anyway, what's stopping them from killing you to make sure they don't have to share the bounty with you? Meanwhile, you could use this as an opportunity to make an impression with the king and join him.
>>
No. 783588 ID: 14d74e

none of this pussyfoot "wait and see" shit. we've got no allegance to the big guy nor the knights; i love a good underdog story. let's see if we can't topple a king - direct conflict'll, at the very least, give us a better idea of our station. chess metaphors are fun. i hope we're a rook.

Scream "FOR THE HAT" and use your superior agility to grab the big guys hat and run away with it. Its a cool hat.
>>
No. 783601 ID: 91ee5f

I say join the giant guy because you're less likely to die if you help him. And because if we help the knights, you're just gonna get killed in 1 sword swipe like they did.
>>
No. 783602 ID: 8d4593

Declare that you will fight with the crowned one, and if they attack, forcibly take the conscripts spear from him. Use it to bring death, and acquire that magic sword. Then use that to bring more death.
>>
No. 783606 ID: b4735e

The knights aren't going to win this. You'll have an easier time convincing a single unit rather than a bundle of injured mooks.

Knock out the remaining knights, you can switch sides if you don't kill anyone.

Kicking or screaming at the kingly one and doing anything to him seems like a really bad idea. Most of the men already assaulting him are being cut in two.

>>783707
While asking them seems like a good idea, they don't seem too particularly keen on talking at the moment!

>Join the king
>Grab a weapon

While the man with the halberd is out of my reach, the one with the spear isn't.

I go straight for him, thumping his armor with the heel of my foot, and instantly he convulses from the impact and releases his weapon.

Taking the opportunity, I grab it for myself. Now I'm armed! The knights don't seem to like that however...

This kingly person seems to be doing work. However the fight has only just begun.

The remaining men in their ambush either rush to help the dying six or flee for their lives, probably not wanting to be part of the swathes of blood Harold is cutting.

The remaining few men either come after me, the bulk after that kingly fellow! This should be the last of them!

Once we're done with the pathetic knights, we should definitely exchange a few blows with Harold, to measure his strength. That's how Grey's talk, right? We first gotta find out who's superior!

Use the brunt of your sword! Non-lethal strikes! Seriously, that other guy is killing everyone, if he wants them dead he can execute them himself.
