Long distance teleportation is possible with a lot of resources and preparation. Generally though, it'd be easier, less expensive, and not much slower to just take a carriage or something... excepting in the case that you're super rich and can have afford to pay someone else to do all the work for you, so it takes a long time for them and no time for you. Rikka, on the other hand, just does short distance teleportation, e.g. across a room, to the other side of a wall, or teleporting something nearby into her hand. It's physically and mentally taxing, too... like sprinting during a chemistry exam. Still, the idea of just waving your hands, speaking a word, and being somewhere else is pretty appealing in a situation like this.
...but I probably should check him, so I guess I might as well pretend he doesn't disgust me for a few seconds. I wave to Joe, and his face lights up like a kid in a candy shop.
"Hey! Jo!"
"Joe."
"Another bizarre adventure, eh?" This joke again. Every single time.
"..."
"...eh?"
"Ha." I grab the note from the back of my bag. "Speaking of adventures, what's this say?" I flip it around to show him.
He scratches at his rampant stubble and squints. "...uh... sorry, I'm only taking conversational Japanese."
I'm so glad I don't need to beg Joe for help. I give a sigh of relief, then switch to my cover story. "No, it's from an ARG." Saying it out loud, I realize how appropriate it is to call it an 'Alternate Reality Game.'
"What's it about?"
I notice he's reaching for the page and pull back. "It's... it'll be better if you find out on your own. Look it up!" I try to dodge around him and head for the coffee line.
He pursues me. "Woah, hey! Wait!"
"Wha-... aren't you in the middle of a game?"
"Yeah, but... look what up? I can't even read that!"
"Ugh." If I act like I'm interested in something, of course he's going to take it way too seriously. "Here, snap a picture with your phone or something." I hold the name up again.
"Oh, good idea!" He digs around in his pockets for entirely too long and spills some kind of wrapper on the floor before finding his phone. He snaps a picture and asks, "So what, should I just reverse image search this or something?"
"You'll figure it out," I say as I stick it to my backpack again. I'd be amazed if he actually did. "Anyway, I've gotta get some coffee before my next class."
"Yeah, sure," he says, smirking at his phone as he heads back to the game. Something about his look weirds me out, but honestly I don't actually want to know what he's thinking.
