I think I have some insight into scenarios like this due to experience. Both sides aren't wrong and never settle their differences. Both sides don't back down and compromise is never performed. You can try meeting separately with both people to gather info or whatever. Here is a few things to consider:
1. Kar does not trust Lizzie to leave and come back, this is why this conflict was brought up when Lizzie got back. I would not be surprised if Lizzie had a sub-motive/motive when you and her left, and she might of known they were already making food. This is why Kar refuses to let Lizzie leave like this.
2. Both sides have valid concerns, at least for this. Overprotectiveness doesn't apply considering there is a valid (but small, for this scenario) risk for people who go out heroically, even if its only for a scouting mission. What Kar's motive is that he values Lizzie more than Greg's daughter, and either A: doesn't trust Lizzie to handle something like this, B: doesn't want to lose her in overprotectiveness (commonly shown in war veterans due to loss of friends), C: Both, or D: Something else, as we don't know much. For all you know, Lizzie has some disability that makes stuff like this hard or something.
I recommend to move onto Lizzie, and go back to Kar later, assuming nothing comes up/something big revelation is revealed. Give Kar some time to think or something, he seems to be thinking considering his failure to respond. Turn to leave.
