Your name is ROLAND, and today has been the worst day of your life.

New quest by a long-time lurker and first-time drawfag. Art will continue to suck an entire barrel of horse dicks indefinitely.

> How so?

Well, for starters, that's your PEDDLER'S CART burning behind you there. It's all you owned in the world, and without it, you have no way to earn a livelihood.

Secondly, you're fairly sure you sustained some kind of HEAD INJURY when the KING'S KNIGHTS knocked you off the driver's seat. You know you at least passed out. For several hours, too, by the look of the sun.

Thirdly, you are now rather bruised, battered, and stranded in the FOREST, with nowhere to go even if you had means of transport. And you're fairly sure you're an ENEMY OF THE STATE.

Oh, and the love of your life has been KIDNAPPED. So there's that, too.

Oh, nothing. Just your cart. Everything you ever owned, except the clothes on your back. It's not very important now, anyway.

You have more important things to do.

> Did you at least have your cart insured.

What's insurance?

> Why did the knights attack you? Are you smuggling illegal goods or something?

In a way.

The King wants Greensleeves. You also want Greensleeves.

There was a bit of a disagreement on this front. There were also several disguises, a lot of person-smuggling, and a few minutes of blissful peace between you and the most beautiful lady to ever live. Then there was...

...Well, it wasn't a high-speed chase, really. Even if your cart was lighter than it was, Molly was getting along in years. A nag of her age can't move too quickly. But it was all very exciting.

Until you got knocked out, anyway.

Greensleeves is a rabbit. YOUR rabbit. The love of your life, the woman you live for. Your best friend since you were children. The one you sing stupid love songs to, even though you're horribly embarrassed to do it in front of anybody. The most beautiful bunny to ever walk the green earth.

And now she's been kidnapped.

> What's in that bottle shaped thing here?

It's not a bottle. It is a POORLY DRAWN COOKING POT. The world around here is often POORLY DRAWN. It is a known problem. God asks His people to bear with Him on this front.

> Anything around you could possibly salvage from the fire?

A cooking pot, with a bit of heft to it. A broken plank of wood, which, with a bit of RAT CRAFTINESS, you are able to turn into a small but serviceable shield.

Nothing else.

> Well time to pick yourself up by your nose hairs and save the pretty lady

> Time to adventure through the woods and hope we find something useful!

Ah. And here we hit the first snag.

You see, the woods are a DANGEROUS PLACE for a rat such as yourself. Especially at NIGHT, and darkness is approaching quickly.

You don't even want to think about the possibility of OWLS.

Besides, you know what the King has in store for Greensleeves. You are working against the clock here. TIME is of the essence.

...But then again, no amount of speed will help Greensleeves if you aren't well enough to rescue her when you get there.

Which leaves you with a choice. The King's castle is on the OTHER SIDE of the woods.

You could STAY ON THE PATH, which is relatively safe. But the path is long and winding, and you are on foot. It will take some time before your reach the castle.

You could CUT THROUGH THE TREES, which is probably your fastest option. As the crow flies and all that. But... there is always the possibility of running into OWLS.

Or...

You could take a third option, and try to hitch a ride on this DAPPER MOUSE GENTLEMAN'S FERRY.

You have no money to pay for passage to the castle, of course, and he may not be willing to take you on for free. Trying to board by force is a gamble in itself, as you are just a PEDDLER, and rats are not known for their strength. It may be possible to HIDE in the CRATES OF VARIOUS GOODS on board, but that is also risky, for similar reasons.

It's not as fast as simply cutting through the woods, but it is faster than the foot path. Fast enough that the fact that YOU CANNOT SWIM does not deter you from considering it.

What do you do?
>>
No. 722824 ID: 47160d

Well offer to work for passage then
>>
No. 722829 ID: b66b01

The ferry option at least requires us to try to get on board, so I'd say that before we consider going on the path or the forest.

I'd also say that we offer work for a free ride. If he say no, tell him that you're low on time and really need to ride the ferry. If he says no yet again, only then mention that you need to help the love of your life.

> I'd also say that we offer work for a free ride. If he say no, tell him that you're low on time and really need to ride the ferry. If he says no yet again, only then mention that you need to help the love of your life.

Pressed for time, you decide that at least speaking to the ferry mouse will at least not take up too much of your time if it turns out to be fruitless.

It does, of course. Because that seems to be just your luck.

The ferry master's name, as it turns out, is OLIVER. Oliver, it seems, is in a hurry. Quite a lot of hurry, really. And he does not like letting people he does not know on board his ferry.

Pushing him on the matter only gets him more and more upset.

No, he does not have the room to take on a passenger. No, not even if that passenger is a remarkably slightly-built rat.

No, you cannot ride in the hold. No, not even if you work to pay your way! Stay out of the hold!

No, he isn't going to the castle, why would you ever imagine that? Why do you want to get to the castle so bad, huh?

No, not even for TRUE LOVE!

No, there's absolutely NO REASON AT ALL that he is so immediately defensive and suspicious! You're the one being unnecessarily shifty for no apparent reason just because someone wants to ride on your boat! YES, THAT MAKES SENSE!

You really don't have time for this.

In other news, while real life intervened and kept Him from updating this quest, it seems that God has discovered a handful of drawing tools that he was unaware of previously.

The world is now SLIGHTLY LESS POORLY DRAWN.

And you don't know how soon he'll be ready to eat. Which is why time is of the essence, and why it is getting EXTREMELY AGGRAVATING watching Oliver continuously glance at the crates and try to check his pocket watch behind his back, as if he thinks you can't see.

He also keeps coughing into a fist and saying things like how he's a perfectly legitimate businessman thankyouverymuch, and how he spoke to the king's duly appointed inspectors only the other day, and no, there's no real reason that he's stopped at this little dock in the middle of nowhere and not pushing off even though he's apparently in such a hurry. And really, no, he's not going to the castle, REALLY, it's on his normal route but, haha, wouldn't you know it, crazy scheduling and all that...

You don't have TIME for this. Violence is not an ideal solution, both because you aren't a complete sociopath and because you haven't ever been in an actual fight before, but it's looking more and more expedient by the moment.

That, or finding a way to convince Oliver to let you onto his ferry.

Violence may be a bit too far at the moment, but you are a rat, after all. Lying, bluffing, and cheating are basically your whole schtick. A bit of playacting can't go amiss, certainly.

It helps that you don't have to act to get the desperation and annoyance across.

You brandish your POORLY DRAWN COOKING POT threateningly, fixing Oliver with the most murderous, commanding glare you can muster, and begin to force your way onto the ferry. Fortunately, Oliver turns out to be a bit of a pushover. He stumbles back against the crates and throws up his hands, begging you to be reasonable, sir, please!

He'll take you to the castle! He was going there anyway! J-just hold on for another few minutes, please! He has another p-passenger coming!

It seems you aren't the only person interested in getting to the castle without being found out. If you wait for them, you may find a valuable ally. Then again, maybe not - and you WILL lose time.
