In the summer, no one asks questions. Nobody wants to know why you're travelling alone or sleeping on the train or dancing outside in the rain. Nobody wants to know why you're not in school.
You turned eighteen this year, so now people won't ask you that anymore, you hope.
The sun's kinda in your eyes, but you don't really care. It's summer, after all.

There's a rusty can by your foot- you kick it up into the air and take a swing at it, the way you used to when you played baseball. You miss, and stomp on it instead. Your date stood you up this morning, and you still sorta want to punch her in that stupid pretty face.

You're not really angry enough to do anything about it. You really want a drink though. Something sweet and cold.
There's a fence nearby- it separates the fields from the city. Maybe the other way around- you're not sure, but it feels like there's a difference. You toss your bat over and pull yourself up. The wind blows a gust of hot air your way.

It's hot and humid and you're all sweaty and your shirt keeps sticking to your skin. You still want to punch someone, and you can't find your earphones anywhere.
Your name is Jo.
You own a baseball bat with nails in it, an opened pack of gum and $45.63 in cash.

All the colors of the wiiiiiind.

So does nobody asking question apply to us? Cause I've got lots of 'em.
>>

So, what have you usually told people when they asked you those questions? (And are the actual answers different?)

You stop at the first gas station you can find. It's abandoned, but the vending machine outside is functional- and, more importantly, well-stocked. Even though there's no one around to stop you just breaking the thing open, you buy your drink normally. Maybe it's some sort of morals- mostly, you just plan to come back here sometime and would hate to end up drinking warm juice.
The glass of the soda bottle clinks against your teeth. The drink is cold and so sour-sweet you can practically feel it eating away at your mouth. It's just what you needed.

It's not the questions themselves that are the problem- it's the people asking them. Nobody ever asks you how your day was or if you've eaten enough or where you found those really cool pebbles. It's always why aren't you in school why are you alone where are your parents where are your parents where are your parents

...The wind is picking up, and you can taste the city on your tongue, industrial fumes and rusting metal. It looks like it's going to rain soon.

You still don't know why your date didn't show. Maybe she decided you weren't good enough pretty enough smart enough for her. Maybe something happened. You don't want to think about it.
You've almost reached the city. You could go find somewhere to party- a nightclub or bar, maybe, but that's never much fun without company.
Actually, there's a lot of places you could go in the city. You don't know the layout, but you can remember the names of the districts you saw on a map before you came here- though you have no idea what type of places they are.
There's:
[A] Rosedown
[B] Sindri
[C] Central District
[D] Alfh Market

Go to the market, buy yourself some supplies.

Then find a job before you run out of stuff.

Rosedown sounds like a fun place.

Do you know where your date lives? Maybe we should check up on her just to see if she's ok. If not, Rosedown sounds cool.
>>

rosedown!

maybe she picked up on "still sorta want to punch her in her pretty face". reacting to refusal with anger and /physical violence/ is a sign of a Nice Guy (girl, in this case) syndrome.
>>

Have you eaten enough?
Where did you find those cool pebbles?
(You already told us how your day has been, so I won't ask).

>where go
Sindri sounds fun.

Refusal would have been fine. It's a normal thing. The problem is, she never did refuse you.
She suggested the date in the first place, she organised it and planned it and... then she just never showed up.
Maybe you did scare her off on accident- the thought of being a Nice Girl scares you more than anything, and the thought won't leave your head now.

You finish the last of the soda and set out towards Rosedown. You really don't know where your date lives- and, even if you did, going there now would be kinda creepy.
The wind is starting to pick up again, drawing layers of dark clouds over the city. It doesn't look like it's going to rain yet, but the city's hot, industrial-smelling air is beginning to carry a hint of ozone. It's a tense kind of smell, fresh and electric.

Rosedown almost seems another city entirely. For a moment you wonder if the area is private-owned, it looks so different. If not for the steel-and-smoke smell that seems to permeate the entire area, it could almost be a festival alley. There's a lot of bars and clubs here, as well as some convenience stores, arcades and game salons. You take a moment to take in all the bright colors and unfamiliar shapes before deciding what to do next.

Let's hit up that 24/7 club to the left. Looks pretty inviting.
