Hello everyone. First let me say thank you for choosing the aspect I govern over, I was honestly surprised so many of you decided on it instead of wisdom or might; I even believed that benevolence would beat out lavishness.

Well I am delightfully surprised yours beat mine out in the vote. Good on them for choosing the road less traveled!

thank you Hapesus!

-sigh- I just don't get it Isiluce, why did might only get one vote? I thought most would be voting for it here, not against it!

Calm yourself Justinus, Adysila, if you would.

Right, we are the Magistrati; the most magically gifted beings of our world and we need your help. Our world is only one great war away from achieving a millennium long age of peace, and unfortunately the empire we were supporting to unite the world in peace has fallen to pieces. What is worse is that the magic we have is starting to fade and if we support one of the much weaker factions we will likely fail to see them unite the world. What we need is for an empire already at its height to move towards uniting the land, but we have... disagreements on which empire from your world would do best-

-Aztec

-Three kingdoms era China

-Sengoku Japan

-The Roman Empire. And we need champions who can make sure these empires we set in our world will have a fighting chance of succeeding. Which is where all of you come in!

Ah! Thank you for reminding me. Yes the general locations in relation to each other is roughly similar to what it was in your world, as seen in the maps comparing the world before and after the new empires are brought in. Also it should be clarified that only the people within the borders of these empires will transfer over to our world. Any tribes or kingdoms outside of them will not be included.

Clearly something was lost in translation here, our desire is to have an empire of your world unite our world under a single banner to achieve peace. The four of us were simply at odds as to which empire of your world would be most capable while keeping from completely overwhelming and destroying the ways of life of the kingdoms inhabiting our world. We allowed these four to compete to determine which will achieve total unification.

4 Insane Archmages crafted a portal to another universe where history is SLIGHTLY off and put you near the Roman Empire. Yes, THAT Roman Empire. They expect you to claw your way to the top, using nothing but your extensive history about how the Romans were the greatest militant warriors in human history by being exceptionally sadistic assholes with class, and despite the politics and logistics making this near-impossible, take over the entire world so that it will stay in medieval stasis for 1000 years.

Yeah I know, I wasn't thrilled with all this either. Take a few deep breaths and then scream and panic inside your mind, we're using telepathy so you don't have to make a scene to get someone to listen to your angst. And... go!

20 minuets of recap later

"So let me go over this one more time and make sure I have this right. You are one of the four most magical beings of your world who are attempting to bring your world into a millennia-long age of peace by having one final world wide war. And because your power is weakening the four of you chose four empires from my world, including the Roman empire; which is arguably the most influential empire in human history,to fight to unite this world. And you also chose four people who know the history of these empires well enough to guide them in uniting your world and fighting the other three empires."

Yep!

"Ok, quick question; how does a world war usher in an age of peace spanning 1000 years?"

Some time ago we Magistrati discovered that the universe always attempts to auto-balance itself when it experiences prolonged periods of being in a certain state, with the coming war we will officially be able to start a 1000 years worth of peace at its end. Anything else you would like to know?

"yeah, why didn't you choose empires that where more advanced Like the modern U.S. or the British empire?"

because they would outright destroy the kingdoms of this world, I looked into the United states and they are guilty of this. Few of the once many Native American Tribes remain in your time because of the deference in technology. Which is why the most technologically advanced empire only has, relatively speaking, a few very basic arquebuses and no way to gain more from trade like they normally would.

So you plan to cause mass genocide so that some ancient magical protocol will kick in and force the rest of the world to "play nice" for 1000 years?

How about NO.

You're intentionally UPSETTING THE BALANCE. You're going to intentionally start a war that will slaughter millions. Not to mention the lack of war for 1000 years means that any social reforms will be suppressed, and any decadence will go unpunished for 1000 years.

War is stupid, but sometimes you need to do the stupid thing to progress further. Emphasis on sometimes, but your peace seems even stupider.

Also, is there a cultural POINT to all of this war? Factions will fight for what they believe in, even if their actions don't necessarily act in accordance with their beliefs. If you were to get all these countries to kill each other by the thousands for dogma and then come out at the end and say "hey, congratulations on ritually sacrificing your families in the name of your respective conquests but for the sake of of world peace! Your opinions and beliefs don't matter now that nobody is capable of supreme authority or imposing their will on the masses! Now let's all have a nice picnic under the war-torn battlefield while sipping tea that came from trees that feed on the blood of your children's corpses! And now that there's millennia-long peace you can't go to war with us and we're going to get away with it!", I think we'd see a hate-conspiracy designed to wait 1000 years just to rip you apart.

Worst case scenario, the world engulfs so deep in war that peace happens because HUMANITY IS PUSHED TO THE BRINK OF EXTINCTION.

"so... about magic, it's a thing here?"

It is, but not as prominently as it once was. When the planet was young magic was plentiful and all who lived in this world could use it, but not always control it. That is when the first Magistrati were formed. Originally we worked to aid in focusing and controlling the magical talents of all beings and by extension bring about peace in the world. From human to elf to gnole, all learned control under the Magistrati. But as the centuries passed fewer and fewer could call upon magic. In their frustration the lords and kings lashed out against each-other and sparked blood feuds that have lasted centuries, and now the most magic that can be called upon by common folk are illusions and parlor tricks; unless they devote half their life to study all their is to know of magic. We four, the last of Magistrati, have so much because we were born when magic was still plentiful and knowledge of how to properly control it was easily accessible. We blessed ourselves with long life to preserve what peace we could. When the magic finally dies, so to will the centuries old spells like the one we used on ourselves. And we will return to being mortal. We cannot restore the magic we use but we can achieve our original mission and usher in an age of peace before we pass on.

Are you OK?

"yea... it's... just allot to take in and... accepting the whole magic...thing."

I disagree that the united states, or really any modern nation would have been a bad choice. The genocide of the native americans wasn't caused by technology, but by the racist beliefs of the people at the time. More modern weaponry could have been used to end this war quickly and with minmal bloodshed, no preindustrial force could even come close to touching the US military, any battles they got into would be over in minutes. A few tanks in the capitals of every major country and it would be over. And that's not even touching on the nuclear option.

It is, however, a bit late for me to be saying this. You did say that you're doing this with the last of your juice, right? I'll let it slide this time, because conquering the world using the Romans will probably be more interesting anyway, but I want you to consult us beforehand the next time you're thinking of doing something like this.

"oh yeah, you wouldn't happen to have a spare toga I could have would you?"

You won't really need one, your trying to help guide the Roman Empire not blend in and standing out will help prove to their leaders that you are not from their age and the world they knew. And if you really want one you could get one when the Romans realize how valuable you will be to them. And besides, gifting you and the other champions with conditional invincibility is enough.

You can, your empire just has to fall first.

Yay healing factor!

Obviously, it runs on magic and will run out when the mana batteries finally shut down.

So, can we get some options on how it works? Examples include

Delayed Rapid Regeneration
Medium Regeneration
Overshield
Anti-Everything Armor
Respawning
Altar of Invincibility
Disease Immunity

Ok, cool. This'll be easy then, just claim you're some minor god or something. They'll believe you once you demonstrate your invulnerability. Once you get to someone important, then you can be honest.

Of course! You will not get sick or be poison-able, weapons can hurt you but you will heal quickly and only feel half the pain you normally would, but unless you want to endure the uncomfortable feelings you should still eat, drink, and sleep like anyone else.

Let's get this party started!

Use your Endurance superpowers by climbing to a nearby tower, loudly proclaiming yourself their ruler as the most badass hero evah, then jump off a building

through a hoop of fire

into a bed of spikes

Then dance your way to the lion's den

and play patty-cake with the lions until they bite your head off

Then scare the lions

Then go up to the emperor and

rip
his
dick
off

(please censor that)

and then @#$% his daughter

Aurelius: "BEFORE I experiment with my invulnerability I should find my way into the city, good thing I was raised in Rome until I was 14. Lets see, I can see the Tiber River to my right from here and I don't see Tiber island which means I must be south of the city, and I seem to be on elevated ground to it which means I must be close to the Aventine Hill. So the closes gates to me would be Porta Naevia, Porta Raudusculana, and Porta Lavernalis. Alright 'voices-in-my-head', your up which gate should I try first?"

Late response, but, what I've been told is that one of the major points of dissension that led to the fall was the imposition of Christianity as state religion, rather than the previous religious freedom. Plus the money that the church took didn't help much either. A quick skim through the Wikipedia article seems to corroborate. I don't claim to be an expert though, and I don't know about other cultural factors. I could believe reversal of assimilation in other ways. Or even as a corollary to that, as once loyal citizens become "heathens".

Not that this is entirely relevant, anyway. ...Aurelius, don't let them declare a state religion, just to be safe.

Oh yeah. Entry gate. I don't see how it makes much difference, really, unless the different gates are used by different sorts of people?

Begin by explaining that you cannot die until one of two conditions happens:
A) Rome Burns
B) Mana Dries Up

And unfortunately the second is inevitable. Whatever magic was left in the world is fading. The "gods" have performed one final, world-changing event before they die. Your goal is to conquer the rest of the world. A lofty goal, but you are immune to assassinations and sudden unexplainable death at the moment.

Other than that, explain the original fall of Rome; how a combination of decadence, poor political assignments, and religious conflict can topple Rome. And now you have to go on the OFFENSIVE, or every other city will attack you first.

They cannot rely on their regular connections and alliances because the game board has changed. You have knowledge of advanced technology, but the other factions will likely discover their own technologies and magicks in this new world. Do not rely on magic, it will die soon.

Explain the enemy factions; China is pretty obvious, so go into minor details about Japan and Aztecs. You will need a sufficient tactical force to win this.

What matters is that they have been dumped into an unfamiliar world, one you don't know much about yourself aside from the presence of three other alien nations, who you will be fighting against for the right to rule the world for 1000 years of peace.

I think at this point it's safe to reveal everything to him, including that you are from the future. Just start from the first thing you remember from this whole ordeal. And be careful not to talk down to him, even if he's fairly ignorant compared to you he's still the emperor of Rome, your emperor now.

Emperor Hadrian: " So this mage, Adysila, has chosen Rome to possible unite her world; and to do so we must conquer the other kingdoms of the world and defeat the other Empires chosen to unite this world. Am I right so far?"

Aurelius: Yes, the other Empires are that of The splintered Han Dynasty of China, The Aztec Empire, and The Empire of Japan during a violent state of dis-unity"

Emperor Hadrian: "I see. What can you tell meof these Empires?"

Japan is what you would call a VERY old succession state from China. Having developed an isolationist culture on a chain of large islands, they have spent centuries honing the art of small-scale warfare and advanced naval fleets. Their agents and assassins are considered some of the worlds' finest.

They aren't exactly the greatest army, though. The main issue is that a few talented individuals make up the bulk of their army's offensive and defensive strength. Most of their forces aren't capable of standing up to heroes and as such, a few hardened Roman battle troops and some intimidation should be enough to send most of the army running, at which point we should attempt negotiation at an individual level with the few heroes who stay to fight.

>The Mexica Aztec Empire or the Triple Alliance (Nahuatl: Ēxcān Tlahtōlōyān,[2] [ˈjéːʃkaːn̥ t͡ɬaʔtoːˈlóːjaːn̥]) began as an alliance of three Nahua "altepetl" city-states: Mexico-Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan. These three city-states ruled the area in and around the Valley of Mexico from 1428 until they were defeated by the combined forces of the Spanish conquistadores and their native allies under Hernán Cortés in 1521.

>The Triple Alliance was formed from the victorious faction in a civil war fought between the city of Azcapotzalco and its former tributary provinces.[1] Despite the initial conception of the empire as an alliance of three self-governed city-states, Tenochtitlan quickly established itself as the dominant partner militarily.[3] By the time the Spanish arrived in 1520, the lands of the Alliance were effectively ruled from Tenochtitlan, and the other partners in the alliance had assumed subsidiary roles.

>The alliance waged wars of conquest and expanded rapidly after its formation. At its height, the alliance controlled most of central Mexico as well as some more distant territories within Mesoamerica such as the Xoconochco province, an Aztec exclave near the present-day Guatemalan border. Aztec rule has been described by scholars as "hegemonic" or "indirect".[4] Rulers of conquered cities were left in power so long as they agreed to pay semi-annual tribute to the alliance as well as supply military forces when needed for the Aztec war efforts. In return, the imperial authority offered protection and political stability in addition to facilitating an integrated economic network of diverse lands and peoples with significant local autonomy despite their tributary status.

>The state religion of the empire was polytheism, worshiping a diverse pantheon that included dozens of deities, many of them having the devotion of an officially recognized cult large enough to be represented in the central temple precinct of the capital Tenochtitlan. The imperial cult, specifically, was that of Huitzilopochtli, the distinctive warlike patron god of the Mexica Aztecs. Peoples in conquered provinces were allowed to retain and freely continue their own religious traditions fully intact, so long as they added the imperial god Huitzilopochtli to their local pantheons.

Dutifully copy-pasted from the Aztec empire's Wikipedia page for your convenience.

Having developed an isolationist culture on a chain of large islands, they have spent centuries honing the art of small-scale warfare and advanced naval fleets. Their agents and assassins are considered some of the worlds' finest. Though they are the least unified of all the Empires, we should proceed with caution against them as they have access to a weapon that can easily turn any battle in their favor even if their access to it is limited. The Aztecs are by far the least advanced threat that we face as the have wepons comprising mostly of obsidian tipped clubs and arrows. Though depending on who leads them that might change. They are also a very militaristic Empire that has a religion focused around human sacrifice. There was an obscure prophecy they had about the end of the world, and they even had the exact date and time written to the dot. But I lived through that day and nothing happened. And you already know a fair amount about china, the major thing to keep in mind is that the empire is split between three kingdoms, If I studied more of my mother's side of the family I could tell you more but I decided to focus on my Roman Lineage instead."

Just tell him that the problem with monarchy is that bad people can stay in power, even when the majority agree that they need a different ruler. Especially when they keep getting incompetent / crazy / sadistic rulers one after the other and no social surgery can take place.

Caligula is pretty much the poster boy for insane emperors everywhere. Some people theorize that he had a disease that made him crazy in his 30's. Then his nephew took over and did a good job at first, but went too far and tried to conquer Britain which got most of his allies killed, and then HIS great-nephew Nero took over and went on a massive purge of Christians, culminating in a literal burn of the city's Christian district, the damage went too far and Rome's burn was the final straw. From there, the Empire cracked and what remained rose in both power and ruthlessness, but with Rome's culture completely shattered what remained of the empire was a social WASTELAND which left the area stupid and barbaric for 700 years, and then the Roman Empire "rose" again, and when I say "rose" I mean "Transformed Europa into a slew of bloodthirsty zealots that spread death, famine, war, and 'conquest', also known as PLAGUE" for another 1,000 years until it finally fell and then the descendants of THAT fiasco performed two final NIGHTMARES 100 years later, slaughtering millions in ways that finally proved to the world how ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE people can be if they don't take an interest in the government and each other.

Long story short, unquestioning obedience CAN GO @#$% ITSELF. That stuff kills empires, man.

Aurelius: "I'm sorry you had to hear this but, The Empire of Rome lasted only 400 years after your rein."

Emperor Hadrian: "...It what?" He is clearly not taking this too well.

Aurelius: You had the right idea of not expanding the empire that much further but, eventually Rome suffers from political and economical instability and after dividing the empire to better manage it, the empire falls in the west. It does survive in the East and takes on the name of the Byzantine Empire. And one Emperor, Justinian, nearly succeeds in returning Rome to the Empire 60 years after loosing the west, but even it to fell 1000 years after the fall of the west."

Emperor Hadrian: "I see so Rome falls four hundred years after my time." I can see that the news of his empire's short life has taken a toll on him.

Aurelius: "Rome may have fallen but it's legacy lived on after it. All that Rome achieved lived on to inspire the kingdoms and Empires that followed it, to the point that It's influence can clearly be seen in more than half the world over! Yes the Empire died but Rome lived on." His spirits seems to have been lifted by that last one.

Emperor Hadrian: "I am at least glad to hear that Rome has such a legacy. And.. me? What of my legacy?"

Aurelius: "You build a famous wall in Britannia that is named after yourself and marks the farthest north Rome ever goes, and you are known as one of 'The Five Morally Good Emperors of Rome;' and the third of them chronologically speaking."

Emperor Hadrian: "That is Indeed good to hear." I should really change the subject to something lighter.

Go to the slums, spread some coin, and earn a few allies. This would normally be a bad idea because you'd be open to a bandit attack, but you have high-speed regeneration so it's an arbitrage for you. Get every faction in Rome on your side, and the first dozen raids will be EASY.

But If we are looking to get to know the people of Rome their are three places that could serve well in that regard. The Colosseum Is a great blase to find the many people f Rome, though the only socializing I would be able to do would be betting on the Gladiators. Theirs The Roman Forum Which is only a short distance from here, But since their is no Triumph (military Parade of Victory) going on only reason I would find any one their would be for the temples, Lastly theirs the local Market which is likely bustling with people and goods, although It is likely the most crowded of the three today. Pugio Dagger: A Leaf shaped blade a little shorter than a foot in length, worth 25 denarii.

Gladius: The Traditional sword used by most roman soldiers until the 2nd century. A wide blade that is a little over 2 feet in length, worth 50 denarii.

Satha sword: A traditional Roman sword used primarily by cavelry until it was used by infantry to replace the gladius in the 2nd century. Thinner than the Gladius, the blade is nearly a foot longer than that of the gladius, worth 75 Denarii

Saltpeter and Platinum (or some other high-quality metal which is cheap in Rome).

Ask for various ingredients along with saltpeter so he doesn't catch on. Also ask if you can purchase information on where he purchases his crafting supplies; offer a lot of money for him to escort you.

You will need that saltpeter to forge guns, and platinum to forge shields.

Okay, I did some basic research; there's a mineral deposit called "potash", containing enough potassium nitrate to blow a small house. Combine with tinder and blood to get the chemical reactions for saltpeter, then combine with charcoal and sulfur to get gunpowder.

Oh right, ask about sulfur deposits as well.

Looks like Romans linked Saltpeter with Prometheus. Not sure if it's a key component of Greek fire, but you've got something more damaging in mind...

Normally I'd agree with you but

most people are MORTAL

Aurelius, jump straight onstage and propose a challenge; for every slave freed you will take a spear to the NECK. And then (tap) DANCE.

Also, you have praetorian guards and a noble's clothes. What are they going to do, sputter incoherently? You'll be FINE.

Okay, I think I have a skit:

Aurelius, immediately jump onstage and act like a salesman. When the slaver asks you why he would EVER murder a random noble and get arrested when he could just sell his slaves and make money, tell him in a deadpan voice that you have 1974 denarii on you right now. Then, your two praetorian guards will loudly pretend that they are looking for a psychopath who just murdered a noble and loudly started yelling "I have ALL the Quae Hit, I am invincible" but utterly ignore the slave auction, at which point the slaver should start getting ideas. Pick a slave and brace for impact.

We need to assess them first. From the looks of it there's two more bodyguards/skirmisher, a sneeki breeki recon type, and... maybe an adjutant.
But this is only based on looks. Have the intention for them to be your spec ops cell, or at least the beginnings of one.
We should drum up support for a scouting mission, check if there's any native (non-IRL) factions nearby. Who knows, we might be able to recruit them for the glory of Rome.

Potash is not commonly wasn't yet commonly used back then I think. He could make white phosphorus though. He would need some glassware (possibly specifically made ones) cinnamon(very expensive spice back then, but available), charcoal, and urine. It'd burn bright and hot and he could make some neat smoke grenades with it. Unrealistic on a mass scale, but he could make at least a decent sized batch.

Honestly, if you guys want to bring technology to ancient Rome we'd be better off going for steam power and electricity. Those don't require rare chemicals. Just some blacksmithing. Granted, electricity isn't particularly useful without the fine-precision tools to make light bulbs and transformers... oh, maybe we can go down that route too?

Hmm, considering immortality, we'll have enough time to teach basic chemistry and physics to the people (among other sciences), and get results from people continuing to research past basic knowledge. Especially with the doctrines of Scientific Method and Peer Review.

Aurelius: It was not as much of a waist of money as you think. I Will be getting a Domus in the city, and If I am lucky, a villa in the countryside at some point, both of which will require more than one pair of hands to maintain. Plus, part of establishing one's status among the high-class in ancient Rome is the number of servants one has, which will at least keep the aristocrats of Rome from looking down on me in that regard. Also taking a mental note on that as a social reform for the future once I find a way to enact it without major consequence.

Slave Auctioneer: "And there we are! You are now the owner of four slaves from the four corners of the Empire!"

Aurelius: "Yeah... real lucky." Of all possible ways to do it, why a strike to the neck, I can handle gore except when it involves the neck. I'm glad that it is somewhat further out from us or I'd likely be vomiting right now.

>why a strike to the neck
It's the only place a sharp stick will kill before the better armed opponent can kill you.

>brings his other sword
>starts to raise his other sword
He didn't keep to the fundamentals of 2 weapon fighting while his opponent kept to the shield fighting one. Attacking with one wespon, *then* the other defeats the purpose of using two of them.

Speaking of fighting, your fencing; strip or combat fencing? If combat fencing, did you have a certain style you went with? (Gauntlet, case, buckler, dagger, cloak, staff)

More like he underestimated his opponent: When fighting with two weapons, always keep one on a defensive position. He failed to defend against the trident shaft, leaving himself completely open, and paid the price.

Emperor Hadrian: "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears! This day has been another grand day for the Empire of Rome! An Empire built on the will of great Romans! Romans who have driven out old Kings! Romans who put the once mighty Carthage to the sword! Romans who tamed the wilds of Gaul and Britannia! Romans who proved our might to the great kingdoms of the East in Greece and Egypt! And Romans who saw the birth of our mighty empire! This day has seen the fruits of our labors, and for it we have been rewarded richly as all the world knows that Rome is the envy of all the civilized world! And it is on this day that a man divinely blessed approached me. A man who claims to know of what the future holds for Rome. This day he has told me that Rome, her empire, and the people whom have seen to its greatness has been chosen for a mighty task. A task so extraordinary I myself believed it to be false, but despite this he has proven to me that he speaks true and that his life is tied to the fate of Rome! Now I just got to make sure that I don't lose that trust and respect, when I get a chance to start thinking about all the ways that I can improve the standing of the Roman Empire. 1.-2. Tabernae: storefront rooms that open out onto the street and are usually rent out.

3.-6. & 11.-13. Cubiculum: small rooms that usually functioned as bedrooms but were sometimes converted into private meeting rooms, libraries, storerooms, etc.

7. & 15. Triclinium: Dinning rooms.

8. Tablinum: Office/Study, usually where the familial and financial records were stored and worked on.

I can think of a few reasons for this to happen. Either he's lying about where the money's coming from in order to launder it, like for example the vineyeard is a front for illegal activity... or he's lying about the profits in order to encourage investment in the vineyard or something.

Itet: "...I see. But their is one thing that I am having trouble comprehending ."

Aurelius: "Yes what is it?"

Itet: "WHY are you so kind to me and the others? You treat us as equals so readily, the last person who showed me any kindness like that was the merchant's son, but unlike him you seem to be genuine in how you treat us."

Aurelius: "If you must know, where I am from, the act of slavery has been a dead concept for at least 2 hundred years."

Itet: She then started to stare at me like a mother who thinks her child is lying. "Really? If it is a dead concept then why purchase slaves yourself?"

Aurelius: "It was better than letting the four of you be bought by possibly cruel people. I would have trouble sleeping at night if I simply walked by the four of you without doing something, anything to help. After all, doing nothing to stop that is as good as committing to such cruelty in the first place."

Not that dead. American Corporations and Federal Institutions have been occupying small city-states and island nations for about a century, reaping the benefits of rare / cost-effective resources while leaving the local civilians at the mercy of low-media capitalist slumhood.

But hey, there's a serious difference between (A) mashing someone to the ground with your boot because you recognize their potential and how they can steal your future (pissed off or not), and (B) outright denying their existence as a sentient being while burning them to death for sport.

So yeah. Progress.

>>715676
Maybe you should deal with this now. If you set fair wages, give a reasonable price for her slave deed (500-750 denarii?), and send her on free-reign missions (give her orders but let her handle how she completes them) she might relent for her time as your slave.

Well, a quick way to end this would be to tell her to stab you through the heart after asking her to let you take off your shirt... but it sounds like you'd rather fight.

Your regenerative blessing should dispel the dizziness very quickly, so just steady yourself against the doorframe and grab your sword. Fight defensively, tell her you'd rather not get blood on your clothes again and getting stabbed is painful anyway. Tell her you are not from Rome anyway. Not this Rome. If she wants to change things here she couldn't pick a better person to talk to about it.

I don't see any discrepancies, this is actually pretty standard as far as Roman homes go, the only oddity I see is that the Exedra (15) and the neighboring Triclinium (14) are in the wrong places. So should I look at another room or look around in the one I'm already in?

1. Tabernae: storefront rooms that open out onto the street and are usually rent out.

2. Tabernae

3. Cubiculum: small rooms that usually functioned as bedrooms but were sometimes converted into private meeting rooms, libraries, storerooms, etc.

4. Cubiculum

5. Cubiculum

6. Cubiculum

7. Triclinium: Dinning room.

8. Tablinum: Office/Study, usually where the familial and financial records were stored and worked on.

9. Culina: kitchen.

10. Peristylium: Open air colonnaded garden.

11. Cubiculum

12. Cubiculum

13. Cubiculum: I am here!

14. Triclinium

15. Exedra: Garden room usually used for formal entertainments and lavish dinner parties.

Aurelius: ....OK...That's kinda outside of my capabilities at the moment, and sorta pointless seeing as Rome is in no real threat of being attacked at the moment. But, yes I can see how having one of the two store fronts filled with models and designs that people can invest in would make for a productive means of "modernizing" Rome. And It might be a good idea to convert one of these Cubiculum into a small workshop for making these designs, the one I'm in right now could work seeing as now that I really look at it, it's kinda barren. Just a few empty pots and dusty bookcases, and there is a single chest in here but it is locked. I also found a small bit of cloth to clean up the large patch of blood that covered the back of my head. It sounds like Itet and Baltair managed to find Odila a bed in the neighboring Cubiculum.

Aurelius: "So then, the Vineyard is is built mostly with wine in mind?"

Vineyard Salesman: "Yes, but we also deal in vinegar. And occasionally ointments."

Aurelius: "How much wine do we have stored away at this time?"

Vineyard Salesman: "We have enough of our more highly prized, sweet white wine to last until the next harvest, but we have more that twice as much red wine stored away. So we won't really need to sell the white wine yet; especially since, though it is fully matured, it is only a year away from the best age for it."

Aurelius: "Good, now how have we done as far as this month's sales go?"

Vineyard Salesman: "Not very well actually, normally we would sell close to 130 Amphora (Ancient Roman equivalent to wine barrels) each month, but we barely sold more than 40 this month. With all the rumors of the strange things happening at the frontiers, many believed it to be an ill omen, so we only earned close to 210 denarii."

Aurelius: "One more thing, is any lead used in the wine making done at the Vineyard?"

Vineyard Salesman: "Lead? Yes, actually we occasionally use it as a sweetener in some of the Wine that comes out to bitter-"

Aurelius: "Well, that ends today. From now, on no lead is to be used in any of the wine." This statement puzzles both Aberdaal and the salesman.

Vineyard Salesman: "Uh. Very well, it shall be done. May I ask why?"

Aurelius: "To put it simply, lead is one of the least healthiest things to put in your body. Despite what many would say."

Vineyard Salesman: "I'm not entirely sure of what you mean, but I will have faith in your judgement. Now if you will excuse me my lord; the sun has set, the 11th hour (5 pm) is passing, and I must return to the Tabernae."

Aurelius: Wait, the 11th hour is passing?

Aurelius: The Banquet hall is overflowing with talk and music and the smell of delicious food. All over I see huddles of senators and military leaders both young and old all chatting away over plans and proposals to "make Rome even greater!" I'm going to have to choose my friends wisely here, unless I want to get stabbed..... again. In any case, I need to work the political scene of Rome if progress is to be made. The question now is, where should I start?

I'd say start with the merchants, they will be the best early spies and we know what they're interested in: Profit.

But first, if Emperor Hadrian is here, duly greet him before you wander off to meet the crowd.

See if you can find anyone you recognize, by name or otherwise, to be trustworthy, moral, honorable, and reasonable. If such an individual can be found they'd be the obvious place to start with making connections. Avoid anyone with too many selfish interests, we aren't skilled enough to manipulate them properly and they may see the change we represent as a threat to their interests. This goes double for merchants, given our weak economics. You're new here and are the obvious center of attention, people are likely to approach you on their own, be cordial to them, and answer any question they may ask, but don't make any agreements or promises with anyone.
