You are Kitsune. That is your name. You are very, very hungry. It is about mid-day but you have been too lazy to venture very far. Unfortunately, you're quite the picky eater...

How shall you solve this catastrophe.

You hop onto a tree and begin to scramble up the trunk. You have never climbed a tree before. It's surprisingly easy to scale the height of the tree. Once you reach a large branch you search for a bird nest. Off at the very end of the branch is a small nest. You're too far away to see if there's eggs.

You climb back down the tree and compile a giant pile of soft leaves for the nest. You then climb back up and shake the branch with every bit of might you have! The nest shakes free and lands in the leaves.

You vaguely know the area. To be completely honest you haven't moved from this spot since you arrived. How you were born is a very strange story. Instead of being pushed from another being you were materialized out of thin air. You were too nervous to explore from there, but now hunger and thirst are driving you forward.

>>665703

Downhill! Yes! You run about in circles for a bit, determining which side is more angled. Finally, you discover a steeper area and follow the path. As you run faster and faster you begin to hear the sound of rushing water and...

Well, leaves and nuts were in your immediate vicinity so they were your first option. Bugs crawled along your path naturally. And you also managed to convince a young harpy to bring you dead rats and fish. You have no idea where the harpy is now. You think her name is Hessie.

You kneel down by the riverside, cupping the water in your hands. You're apparently much more civilized than the average kitsune! Bringing the water to your face, you take a deep swig. It's very cold and refreshing!

After a few more sips of water you feel satisfied. You ponder to yourself a bit. Should you bother to gather food for a long-term plan, or just eat stuff as you find it?

Gathering food would be a safer option, even if it is a bit of work. You are an inherently lazy Kitsune, but food is important! You just need to make sure not to snack too much and you'll fare just fine.

First order of business...the frog in the distance. You turn your head and stare at it, licking your lips. It did look quite tasty. You inch towards it, but it immediately hops onto the rock in the river, croaking idly.

You peek around, wondering if the croaking was a sign. Nothing happens. You then try to communicate with the frog.

"Can you talk?"

It just blinks, and croaks again. It hops away once more, but is snatched up by a lash made of some sort of translucent substance. It's then pulled into the rushing water, in a single motion.

"I can do that. Do you have a bucket?"

"Eh, I'm sure we got an empty jar."

The beegirl immediately presents you with a clean, glass jar.

"Th-Thank you! She...never wants to talk to me about stuff like this..."

You head off back to the river and get there quickly. Boba is leaning against the rock in the middle, resting.

"Oh. Fox girl. You have returned. Can I help you?"

"Oh um, do you mind if I get some water from your stream?"

"Not at all. Please take."

"Also, why do you attack traders when they come by?"

"To keep my river clean. Traders dump their trash and bathe their dirty bodies in my water."

Oh alright that's reasonable. No bathing here then. Ask where you can bathe.

Hmm. Ask her if there's anything she wants from the village. Like some treats or something?
>>
No. 666446 ID: 0fc976

That makes sense. I wouldn't want trash dumped in my forest, either. But you just attack them to scare them off, right, not hurt them? Would you compromise on the bathing? It's really so little dirt compared to the soil your stream moves every day, and it all gets washed downstream anyway. Maybe you could make new friends that way.
I'm sure it would work out well for you and the traders.

So, anyway, where does your stream go? Have you been to both ends?

For bathing, we can just wait until we get an actual bucket, as well as a basin, trough, or barrel to fill up as the tub.

Or get a hole-riddled pail nailed up on a tree as a shower some ways away from the river.

"Would you be willing to let the traders bathe? You could make friends!"

"I am not interested."

"Mmmkay...and do you want anything from the village? A treat or something?"

"...Mmm, there is a spot there that sells steamy buns filled with meat. I smell it from the traders' carts. I am pretty sure it's from that village. Those would be nice."

"Ooh! Got it! Also, I'm curious. Have you been to both ends of your river?"

"How far up is the lake?"

"Hmm...about a day's journey."

"Okay! Thank you, Boba!"

"Do not be a stranger, fox."

You swiftly return back to the traders, who are patiently waiting in the same spot they were in before. The bee girl notices you first.

"Oh! You brought water! But how did you get past that nasty water spirit?"

"It's easy. She's very friendly. She just doesn't like traders who dump their trash in her river."

"Oh...I suppose that would make me upset, too. The river is kind of her home."

The centaur snorts impatiently.

"Gimme that jar." She snatches it from your hands and downs the entire thing in a few seconds. "Hm. That's good water."

"Glad you like it..." The bee girl turns to you. "My name's Zozo, by the way! And that's Fern. Um, if you want we can give you a ride to the village! I'm from a colony of bees so we usually bring our honey since it's quite popular there!"

It took about 4 hours to reach the village. Your butt was extremely sore, but you feel that the experience allowed you and Fern to bond...sorta.

As you get closer, the crowds of people become more apparent. Soon it's extraordinarily busy, with various monsterkin screaming and yelling in all directions.

Your friends pull up to an empty stand and begin to unload their stock. You help as much as you can before Zozo allows you to meander on your own. After a bit a certain stand draws you in. The owner is selling various burnt wood pictures. Intricately crafted and pleasing to the eye.

"Do you like what you see, fox?"

"What do you use them for, Yobi?"
