Well, shit.

Your name is Nikolas and you're the head of this expedition. The floating corpse before you used to be Andy, one of the three spess soljurs tasked with guarding your life.

Looks like the spess aingel found you before you could find him. The mission is ruined, all you can do now is try to get out alive. Your options seem slim....

)))Your survey station's only two sections out from this area. If you can get to it you can leave this place, fast.
)))Your other two guards are still out here, though! They might have not been taken by the aingel yet. You can't just leave them for dead...can you?
)))Panic's overtaking you, maybe you're not thinking like a spess man. Is there some other course of action you could take?

What kind of spess suit is that? All lumpy and baggy. Find yourself a better one.

... oh wait that's your space buddy's guts NEVERMIND THEN GO HIDE FROM THE SPESS AINGEL.

You admonish yourself for thinking so cowardly, even for a moment. As the one in charge you need to find cover, and then you need to look after your men. If the spess aingel hasn't caught them already....

You frantically pry Andy's spess gun from his spess gloves and jet away, floating toward the junk belt you'd been scouting as fast as your spess suit can carry you.

Pressing up against a ruined satellite you peek out into the distance for any signs of movement. The spess around Andy's corpse looks empty. Right then, info Nikolas, info.... You force yourself to go through the mission details again in an attempt to calm your nerves.

The Spess Armie has been taking heavy losses in this spess by a small spess rebul sect known as Spess Heven. If reports are true there's only five of them--three grunts, the tactician they call the spess godd, and the sniper the Armie has named the spess aingel. Altogether they've killed over two hundred spess soljurs. The spess aingel is responsible for maybe half those kills, alone.

A few days ago the Spess Armie changed tactics, trying to send multiple scout groups in after the rebuls instead of throwing whole platoons in at a time. Two four-man teams were sent after each of the rebuls. Your team was one of the lucky ones sent after the aingel.

Going over the situation again, a raw sense of fear settles in your stomach. You pray that your other spess guards haven't both been slaughtered already. Trying to keep a level head, you think of how you could go about finding them.

)))Your spess suit has a spess raydio built into it. You could try calling them on it, but if the spess aingel intercepts the radio he'd have your position pegged....
)))They're patrolling im and around this junk, somewhere. You could try moving through the debris and try to locate them yourself.
)))The thought of moving around with the spess aingel around somewhere is terrifying though.... Maybe you should just hole up in the debris and wait for you men to find you....

The spess aingel's already drawn a bead on you. That's a laser sight pointing at the side of your head, coming from 3 o'clock! Dodge out of the way and fire in the angel's direction! Then radio out that you've found the aingel and that you need backup.

The next instant passes in a blur. You're unsure how but you manage to flail into some new cover, leaving behind a trail of blood.

>With a blood-stained spess glove you key your spess raydio. "Chance! John!" you grate through the pain. "I found the spess aingel, I need backup!"

>Your heart leaps as a familiar voice cuts through the soft static. "We'll be there in two spess shakes," Chance replies. "Just stay down, alright?"

>"Yeah," you pant. "Yeah, I'll do that."

As the radio cuts out you realize you're not sure if the spess soljurs know where they're headed. You have a tracking beacon on you, but once again if the aingel intercepts it you may be as good as dead....

)))At this point you're as good as dead anyway, the spess aingel has you in his sights. Maybe you can get away with the beacon.
)))Chance said to just stay down, though.... You feel a strong urge to just curl up and wait for help to arrive.
)))That's hardly the spess man mentality, you halfheartedly chastise yourself. A real spess man would fire back, keep fighting.... But fuck, your arm hurts...!

You are a spess man, dammit! Don't just lie (err, float?) there and wait for death. You need to find a way to outsmart the aingel. So what is the aingel going to expect you to do? They probably already figure you have a tracking beacon, and that you're going to use it--no doubt they saw you radio for help. The aingel's a sniper, right? So you aren't going to best them at a distance. You need to get in close and finish them off, or at least subdue them.

I say, see if you can grab some debris nearby that is big enough to act as a shield, attach the activated beacon to it, and kick it away. Watch it for the aingel's laser sight, and then quickly make your way in the opposite direction. Try to circle around behind the aingel before they realize what you've done. Do you have anything that's good for fighting at short range?

Also, is suit depressurization a concern? Or is your suit some kind of combat-oriented spess suit that is resistant to depressurizing after being shot? You might want to grab that bandana that came off of your helmet and try to use it to tie off the hole in your suit.

Do you think just anyone gets to go to spess? Fuck no, only REAL MEN get to float around in the dangerous, oxygen deprived, infinite blackness of spess.
What are they gonna say when they find your body with all the bullets still in yer gun? They wont bother burying it because you wasted too much money on the shuttle ride here, and funerals are expensive in spess.
So pop your arm out, and suppress that dick, if you can keep it off of you or wound it (good luck) then we can survive like REAL SPESS MEN and get spess reinforcements in the form of your spess comerades, just dont float out there like a moron because you forgot that your gun has a kick to it, that would be hilarious and terrible at the same time.

It's terrifying but you know you can't just give up, you're a spess man, dammit! Trying to push fear and pain from your mind you snap up, let out a spess battle cry, pull the trigFUCK!!

Fuck fuck fuck this thing has some kick to it!! You're forced to clutch your cover with your injured arm to keep from tumbling backwards, causing a shock of pain to lance through you that breaks your resolve once again.

You duck as a round from the aingel hits nearby. You screw your eyes shut, trying to keep from snapping and make a plan.

You wince as another jolt of pain comes from your shoulder. You once again wish death upon the spess engeneres for developing a spess suit that somehow doesn't depressurize and still lets you bleed. Seeing it's uselessness as a bandage, you snatch your bandana out the spess nearby and just wrap it around your right arm.

A shot flying past your cover makes you flinch. There's no way you can take the spess aingel on at this range, you decide, starting to put together a plan to get closer.

You take out your tracking beacon. If you could distract him with this you could try to flank.... Damn, there's nothing safely nearby to use as a shield for it, though!

)))You could activate and hurl it without a shield of debris, although you don't know if the ruse would be as effective like that....
)))It hurts like hell but you're holding your own at this rock, at least more than a moment ago. Maybe you could just keep firing from here? You try to convince yourself that the notion is pure spess man logic and not an immense fear of getting closer to the spess aingel....
>>
No. 650412 ID: 37adba

The point of covering fire is to pin down and distract the enemy so they don't move or attack you successfully. Keep suppressing the aingel, hold on to your beacon (activate it if you haven't already), and wait for your spess squaddies to show up and make a kill shot on the aingel.

Being in spess can have its advantages. Lay down suppressive fire, and use the recoil from the gun to propel yourself to different cover, preferably somewhere close by some debris to use for the beacon ruse. Hopefully the aingel won't try to shoot you while they're being shot at.
>>
No. 650500 ID: f461c5

You can use the fairly hearty suppressive fire to force the aingel to keep his head down while you move, and as long as they arent looking you can use it to move your beacon as well.

Just remember that the beacon has to be nearby no matter what, because it is what your friends are looking for too.

This is a spess aingel, you arent nearly robust enough to fight it, sorry to say.
Keep the beast suppressed, if it gets closer use your gun as a makeshift jetpack, speaking of, how many bullets we got left? if we run out we're basically fucked.
If we get closer we're gonna get shot up, and even if we DO gain an advantage up close, i doubt its going to balance out having one arm.
But above all: DONT GET SHOT

An idea comes to you! You pop off another burst toward the aingel, then turn to one side and fire another shot. The recoil sends you tumbling toward a couple of crates floating off to the right. The busted missile launcher that your enemy's laser sight was coming from stays silent.

As you close in on your new hiding spot, you realize with a pang of worry that you don't know how many more bullets this gun has to shoot. You have to have fired at least twelve rounds by now, you think. You hope your men arrive soon, or else when you run out you'll be fucked....

The spess aingel's sight still hasn't reappeared as you press up against one of the crates. Is he waiting for something? You fight down another urge to panic. This doesn't feel right....

No sense waiting for more danger to hatch your plan, you decide. You connect the tracking beacon to the crate beside yours and turn it on.

A light shove sets the box floating cautiously away from you. You tense and wait for that red beam to start tracking the decoy....

...Nothing? Still no tracer and no shots fired.... What's going on?

)))Did he fall back? You peek out from your cover a bit. Should you go closer and check...?
)))No, this has to be a trap, your gut says. He wants you to come out in the open and get torn up. Should you start firing again?
)))Maybe he's just being doubtful, though? You hesitate. Should you just let the beacon trick play out a little longer before you give it away?

From behind the ruined launcher floats John and Chance. The latter waves a hand toward your cover as they come closer.

>"We came as fast as we could when we saw your beacon on the spess raydar," John says. "You alright, sir? Looks like you bled all over Section A to get here...."

You're about to reply when you freeze. A quick check of your spess HUD shows that your skirmish--and your injury--has all taken place in Section B. Someone else is trailing blood out here.... Could you have injured the spess aingel?

)))It doesn't matter though, you have your men now, you tell yourself. The three of you should just get out of here, get to the survey station and run, report the mission as a failure....
)))Your heart sinks as you realize that even as you consider running, part of you is already trying to plan iut how to give chase.... Are you willing to risk your group's lives trying to go after this thing...?

Reminding yourself of your injury and lack of ammunition makes the next step clear. You tell your guards that the three of you will fall back to the survey station before making another move.

You cut through Section C to Section Z, and from there break from the junk belt and into the open spess of Section Y. Your group takes no fire from the surroundings along the way.

Before long, the survey station is in sight. A tension you hadn't noticed you were holding vanishes when you realize the ship looks to be just as you left it.

>"Stow it! Are you a spess soljur or a fucking coward?!"

>"I'm a soljur! A fucking good one! And I'm not eager to die for a fucking civilian!"

A shock of pain in your shoulder wakes you up. It takes a disoriented moment to realize that you're in the airlock of the survey station. You must have blacked out for a moment, you realize. How much blood have you lost? You feel lightheaded....

>Chance turns to you, gripping his and your rifles tightly. "I am so sorry for all this, sir," he tells you, voice taut. "I promise you this is just some soljur banter, John didn't mean all that. Right, John?"

>"Of course I fucking--"
>"Didn't," Chance snaps.

>"Of course," you slur weakly.

>"We're with you to death no matter what, both of us. So what plan should we go with, A, B or C?"

You notice with a pang of worry that you seem to be the only one around. You're not sure what to do....

)))You're not sure where your spess suit is right now.... You'll probably want to find it or something else to wear, and then...what?
)))The armory's not far from here.... An urge to get up, run to it and fucking load yourself to the brim grips you.
)))The cockpit's just down a ladder, too. You could get down there and steer for a different position, survey the surrounding spess...or fly the hell out of here....
)))You try to ignore the shameful thought. You have two men missing! You can't leave them! You glance at the spess raydio nervously. What if they went after the aingel without you? What if he caught them?! The terrifying thought of who could be on the other end of the raydio stops you from picking it up....
