Just a good dog trying to get home.

(And an artist's attempts to learn how to do backgrounds. Expect some style shifts.)

Its official, you are lost.

You aren't sure how you got to where you are, wherever this is, but you know that you need to get home soon. Your person is waiting for you.

Still... Given how lost you are, you aren't quite sure what to do next.

What do you do?

>SQUIRREL

WHERE?!

>Ask the squirrel for directions.
>Bark at squirrel.

You find the squirrel on an overhead branch and give it a barking it will never forget. Trying to talk with it would be kind of silly and, as a GOOD DOG, it's practically your job to bark and/or chase after it.

The squirrel quickly scurries away into denser foliage.

GOOD DOG :O3

>Mark tree.

With one sacred dog duty done it is only proper to do another. In this strange place, full of unfamiliar smells, scent marking this tree will go a long way towards keeping track of where you have and have not been yet.

Well that, and your bladder is pretty full anyways.

>Examine all around you, do you remember which way you came from?

Well, to your left there is a field of tall grass that seems to go on forever. You are downwind from it and can smell rabbits and mice in the air. Your stomach grumbles hungerly.

To your right there's a large hilly field of short grass, some trees, and then in the distance a whole bunch of trees. Your sense of smell and hearing are much better than your eyes but the distant trees remind you of HIKES you've had with your person in the past.

...

As for where you came from... You don't remember? You aren't good at remembering things like that. Things like HIKES and HOME and your person are easier to remember because they are important. The rest is not. As a dog you like to live in the moment so some details are hard for you to remember after they've already happened.

As it stands, if you want to find your way home you should probably get moving. Which way do you go? Do you head into the tall grass, walk towards the hills, or set off for the distant woods?

>Gaze ponderously into the tree hole.

You can't see much in the gloom so you try sniffing instead. The hole tucked into the roots of the tree smells of dirt, rotting leaves, and squirrel. The squirrel smell reminds you of your rumbling stomach again.

>Let's go eat a rabbit! Grassland.

You decide that as long as you don't go too far into the tall grass you can’t get more lost than you are now. Right now you are hungry and so long as you can find your way back to your marked tree you don’t see the harm in chasing down a rabbit or squirrel. You’ve never actually caught one before but how hard can it be?

>Where's your collar?

As you set off another question comes to mind. You're not familiar with the people word 'collar' but you remember it being used by your person every once in a while and you figure that it's probably the thing around your neck that she attached your LEASH to. You think that it was taken off before you went running. You aren't sure. Your person sometimes did that when you needed a BATH or went on HIKES.

Ah.
You’ve arrived at the field with tall grass and the stalks tower over your head. Now that you are closer the scent of rabbit is much stronger, as is the scent of mice and other things. You are able to detect a bird smell, water, flowers, and dirt in the air. There is a strange scent that you can’t quite place as you sniff along the edge of the field. Before you head into the tall grass you add you own scent marker so you can find your way back more easily.
It’s time to go rabbit chasing.

It took a few failed chases but you’ve finally managed to sneak up on a rabbit. It sits a few yards away, completely unaware that you are there, and now you find yourself unsure on how to proceed. How exactly does one actually catch a rabbit? Should you try and sneak closer, go for it from where you currently are, or wait and hope it hops closer to you?

Cats stalk. Are you a cat? I THOUGHT NOT.

Wait a little bit for it to get just a little closer before bolting out there to snatch it into your greedy maw. Then give it a good shake.
