Angels, crimson wings aglow
They rise to strike toward those below
Unhesitant in their descent
They take up arms and soar.

One falters, looking to the scene
Upon which Death is soon to glean
But now's to fear his fate,
There is no time to mourn.

These angels were not born to fly.
These fools were only born to die.
But if this day might pave the way,
Their deaths will be paid for.

A quick cut to the right before deploying his chute sets Uriah on course for his assigned sector. It looks like Layman is almost down as well.

Uriah
--"Shit--!"

The landing is rough, but he's had rougher. Uriah's surprised to find that not only has he set down in the correct clearing, but that his entire squad is waiting for him.

Layman
>"Almost thought a cross-breeze or something had hit you, man."

Nick
>"Pff, a cross-breeze is all it'd take to blow this lightweight off course!"

Uriah
--"Says the smallest guy in the Combatant..."

Tara
>"Speaking of blowing off course, Nick, I saw how you were flailing around on the way down. You didn't exactly land inches from your target zone, dude."

Nick
>"Only 'cause I was keeping all the fire off of your big ass!"

Tara
>"Excuse me?"--

Slav
>"Come on, you all, we have a job to do!"
The medic/radio man nods to Uriah.
>"Sergeant, it looks like we all made it down safely. I'm sure not as much can be said for the main force. Command said to sweep to the east and skirmish with any reinforcement squads until the base is taken."

Uriah
--"Distract reinforcement groups with only seven guys?"

Slav
>"Not even, sir...command is ordering us to split into several teams so we cover more ground."

Nick groans.
>"Pave the fuckin' way, man...I swear, they don't even care about giving us a fighting chance anymore."

Uriah's squad consists of one medic/comms man, one rocketeer, one heavy rifleman and four regular riflemen including himself. As he struggles from his parachute pack he wonders how he's going to divvy his squad up in a way that won't get the lot of them killed instantly...

"Okay, as usual command had its head up its ass when it made the battle plan so our SOP is in effect: Ignore the orders and start bullshitting a story about what we did that pretends we followed orders.
"Everybody, loose formation of pairs of a rifleman and a specialist leapfrogging as we, hah, force recon. My job will be to stay as far as way from the rest of you as possible because theoretically I'm the commander; if they figure that out they'll be aiming the heavy ordnance at me. Everybody move out and do what you were going to do anyway that keeps us all alive, officially we're divided into pairs now with me as mobile command so note that down in your logs for the debriefing."

Even an Angel has some sense of self-preservation. Uriah drops down and addresses his squad quickly.

Uriah
--"Alright, command officially had its head up its ass even further than usual when it came to our plan. Here's what we're going to do instead."

--"Loose formation, I want specialist-rifleman pairs at fifty-pace intervals. When we get moving, Layman and Slav will be on our right flank and Bussard and Blake on our left. Nick and Tara, you two will be in our center and on point. My job..." Uriah falters. He considers hanging back, but decides against it. "My job will be to stick with the center team. Sound good?"

Nick
>"Hell, anything sounds better than splitting up and trying to fight squads with only two or three guys."

Slav
>"Sounds like a fine plan, sir, but what will command say of it?"

Uriah
--"Command won't have shit to say. We've split up, haven't we? We just didn't get as far away from each other as they probably wanted."

Slav grins.
>"I like it, sir. I like it a lot."

don't ask where the top half of that last picture went, I dunno xD

Uriah
--"Nick, you were in charge of making a map, right?"

Nick
>"Uh..."

Uriah
--"Nick...?"

Nick quickly shoves a sheet of paper at the sergeant and turns away.

Uriah examines the shoddily drawn map. drawings--if such scribbles could be called that--of the squad ring the doodle that represents the island. Somehow Nick has managed to misspell "target." Still, the main points of combat and the final target are all present, as well with the three clearings in the forest that command will want checked out eventually.

Slav points to the southernmost clearing, trying to ignore the scribble of him on the page's corner.
>"This is where we are now, Clearing 3. The other two clearings need to be checked for safety, but command really wants us to keep reinforcements from messing with the main fight right now. Personally, I suggest we move to this area to the east of where the front line is right now. That's where any reinforcements trying to flank our main group would try to go.

Uriah
--"Hmm..."

Uriah pauses to plan the best route for the squad to travel. Should they move toward the eastern area of the front? Or wrap around further, using the clearings as waypoints?

Move toward the eastern area of the front. Cutting off reinforcements is your priority, taking the time to wrap around to the front wastes precious time.

Derp, I totally forgot to mention I canceled this xD Nobody had suggested so I thought it'd just head to the grave on its own.
