Hi there!
My name is Aislinn Neotis and you wouldn't believe how excited I am!

Oh, right. Uhm... I'm that doofy-looking redhead on the left there, see?
Well guess what, guys?!
I'm on my way to the new space station Solaris! Yes that Solaris! No! Not the one from that book!
But Solaris! I'm so excited I can hardly sit still.

Well I'm in a shuttle right now. It's rather... uncomfortable, all grey in grey and stuff. The only specks of colour are the hair of that woman and the light blue console.

>>ARRIVAL IN TWENTY MINUTES
>>Error in Function: clearStorage("A")
>>Error in Function: clearStorage("E")

Now that doesn't sound good, but nobody seems overly agitated over tha-
WAIT A SECOND!

What's going on here?!
Why? What's happening? Didn't I just... die?

I wince, as the weird guy jumps up and goes to the console to type away on it.
What's being played here?

Okay, shit! You are clearly in some sort of experiment.
Act normal. Just as if nothing were wrong at all. If possible stick to this ship and leave immediately.

>Okay, shit! You are clearly in some sort of experiment. Act normal. Just as if nothing were wrong at all. If possible stick to this ship and leave immediately.

An experiment... I didn't know they could bring people back from the dead... And I'm completely uninjured as well. My hand is fine. This is definitely weird.
I act as calm as I can, but my heavy breathing gives me away. Dr. Otwin lowers her brochure.
"Are you feeling alright?"

This voice apologizes profusely for sexual comments before your peculiar accident. We never lost anyone before like that. It's terrifying. Everyone we control usually lives.

Well, we can't do anything to the guy yet. It's too risky to tell him we know he's gonna kill everyone in the facility. Lets wait until you get the card in your hands again and remember the shit that's on it.

Tell doctor Otwin your all right. Just very scared of the man in the room. That something about him is just Grim. Makes sure he hears it too. To see if he reacts at al... OH god, what if he died once too and is nervous because something else happened to him and he's just trying to fix it so he doesn't die?

KILLL HIM!!!
>>

>Quick, Aislinn! What can you remember from before?

Well... I went to Solaris and a terrible accident killed almost everyone. I met Dr. Otwin and brought her to the infirmary where we met Declan. This weird guy almost locked us in, but I could stop him at the expense of my right hand's full functionality. Then Declan and Dr. Otwin followed him down the elevator shaft, which he had cut open., while I went to the bridge and... something weird happened. I heard screams from the shaft and went to investigate after I evaded the weird guy. Declan's death took me... harder than I would have ever thought and pretty much right after I came to we were killed.

>This voice apologizes profusely for sexual comments before your peculiar accident. We never lost anyone before like that. It's terrifying. Everyone we control usually lives.

Uhm. Well, I can't stay mad with myself, right? But you still confuse me.

>Well, we can't do anything to the guy yet. It's too risky to tell him we know he's gonna kill everyone in the facility. Lets wait until you get the card in your hands again and remember the shit that's on it.

What card, exactly, are you talking about?

>Tell doctor Otwin your all right. Just very scared of the man in the room. That something about him is just Grim. Makes sure he hears it too. To see if he reacts at al... OH god, what if he died once too and is nervous because something else happened to him and he's just trying to fix it so he doesn't die?

A terrifying thought.
"Yes, do not worry, thank you. I'm just scared of... him.", I whipser just loud enough for him to hear and gesture towards the weird man. "Something about him is... grim. My name is Aislinn, by the way."

She nods with a confused look on her face. But his expression is far more interesting. He's staring at me. He seems very, very surprised. Then, he starts working on the console again.

Oh forget the formality already! You just died and then didn't. What people think of you no longer matters. The rules have changed, and you've gotta be willing to change with them. Come right out and confront him.

"How many times have you died? Why doesn't she remember? What's your plan this time and can I get in on it?"

Alright. Here goes nothing.
I muster all courage I have and say:
"How many times have you died? Why doesn't she remember? What's your plan this time and can I get in on it?"

He turns to face me and his face shows utter astonishment. Dr. Otwin looks confused beyond measure. "Remember what?"

He ignores her and says: "Y-you remember?! M-my... Ok..."
he takes a deep breath and and a quick look at the screen.
"I'll just answer your questions for now. I think I have died about... 15 times now... It's a bit hazy. I have no idea why some people remember and some don't. And to be honest: I don't really have a plan yet. How quickly do you think I can come up with a plan?! Currently I'm trying to work out the code that would allow me to turn this shuttle around, but I doubt that's gonna work anytime soon."

Dr. otwin seems extremely comfortable with this, but she doesn't say anything.

['uncomfortable', sorry. I'm a moron.]

"I'm-" I start but am cut off.

"Aislinn Neotis, I know.", he says and types more codes ionto the holo console.

"What's yours?", I ask.

"Emil Vefial."

I hesitate a bit. He's still distant, unfriendly.
"We should stick together, don't you think?"

He looks at me, sceptical.
"I'm still thinking about that. We'll see."

Dr. Otwin decides to speak now: "Stop it! You may think it's funny to play pranks on people, but it's just chil-"

Ask him what he learned in his previous tries to avoid, so we can too and if he does that we would leave him alone.

Be nice to Otwin, she might come in handy later. But Emeril Emil's right, you don't have time for the 'wait what?' factor. And besides, maybe you can reassure Emil while you're at it.

"Dr. Otwin, this is anything but a joke. We're all in mortal danger, and I don't know about you but I don't want to die. And I'm willing to do whatever it takes to avoid that. Even if it means working with someone who doesn't trust me."

Then confront Emil directly. "Look, it's fine that you have your doubts. But you could use another set of hands, another pair of eyes, and two heads are better than one. I didn't cause this, and I definitely don't want to relive it... especially not fifteen times." Try and look as persuasive/charming/scared as possible. "Please?"

I must say I'm not exactly thrilled to work together with this murderer, but still I think it would be a better idea than to go alone.

You are right. She doesn't deserve to be left in the dark.

He sighs, than looks at me again.
"I am well aware! Do you think I didn't try working with you before? I learned that I could not trust you. Any of you."
He pauses for a second.
"But the fact that you remember... changes things... maybe."

He doesn't trust you. You've gotta convince him. If he can't trust you he won't tell you everything or treat you like an equal, and might even use you as a disposable resource. It's up to you to change his mind.

"Yeah... it does change things. Whatever I did before was a result of who I was. What we've been through has changed us; we can't help but be affected by it. And it'll affect our decisions too. I don't know what I did to betray your trust, but I'm sorry. We're both in this together, and we both remember now, so if I betray you now then we'll both know it next time and it will get us nowhere."

Stop treating me like a complete moron. I'm oblivious to why that changes things. Do you know, what he killed Declan for? Enlighten me, then.

>He doesn't trust you. You've gotta convince him. If he can't trust you he won't tell you everything or treat you like an equal, and might even use you as a disposable resource. It's up to you to change his mind.

He remains silent at first, punching more codes into the console.

Finally he speaks: "Look, I would love to believe you. I want to trust you. But I can't. Because you can't trust me either. Now leave me alone. If I need you, I'll ask you for help."

He sighs.
"What?"

"The break room. Something was wrong with it."

"Oh that. Well there seems to be a mysterious anomaly spanning the entrance to the bridge. You walk into the bridge and suddenly reappear where you entered the Break Room. I don't get it either, but it's one of the major reasons, we're gonna be in this mess."

Appeal to his emotions with painful honesty.

"Please... I just died. Everything I thought I knew just got turned on its head and, rude or not, you're the one constant I have."

Then appeal to his sense of pragmatism.

"What do you have to lose by giving me another chance? If I do something idiotic and betray you and we all die again then you don't have to ever talk to me again. But can't we give it a shot now that I actually remember?"

If that combo doesn't work, then it's time to move on.

He gets really angry now. He takes a step towards me and shouts:
"You may think dying is like killing. Killing gets easier with any time you do it. Hell, I could kill you right now and I wouldn't even feel a twinge of guilt. But a knife in your back is something different entirely. You don't get used to it. Every death is just as painful as the last one. And betrayal is the same. I don't want to take chances."

>If that combo doesn't work, then it's time to move on.

Well, we tried. I sit back down, as he moves to the console to try more codes. Dr. Otwin seems scared.

Apologize to Otwin, just say your scared.

Have you heard of the movie groundhog day with Bill Murray? It's basically the same situation as this, only he's on earth in a dumb boring old town on groundhog day where he restarts the day after he goes to sleep. It happens enough he kills himself, only to wake up in his bed again. He then becomes enlightened after many times going through this, knowing pretty much every little thing that happens in the town on that day, solving a bunch of problems and learning many skills.

I suggest we ask Emil if he's ever made it an entire day, only to end up back here again like in that movie.

But yeah, explaining this to Otwin as an evil sci-fi Groundhog Day is a somewhat good idea... only I'm sure weird guy has already tried it and it didn't work. Dammit! He's got so much useful info that might help us come up with a plan.

Yes I know that one. It's, like, a million years old, but a very fine movie. Beats all the crap Hollywood churned out later... Bastardizing great franchises to death. Damn...

I take it the ship explodes or completely depressurizes by then, if he's never made it. Then again, all that meddling around probably killed him off.

Remember that scientist guy Otwin talks to in a few moments? Just before the seminar that drops a keycard? Was it peculiarly fast he grabbed it right outta your hand that it might suggest he knew it would fall out? You could ask the guy who else remembers here. Or is it completely random each time?

Might wanna joke about Groundhog day too with the guy, might settle his own nerves.

Well, we know that the core is shut down, leaving the life support systems without power... Maybe the breach that killed me happens everytime. Maybe none of the above.

Hmm, he was awefully fast.

"Just you and me."
He seems... agitated but still answers all these questions.

>Might wanna joke about Groundhog day too with the guy, might settle his own nerves.

I try to think of a good joke. But frankly, I can't think of any... Somehow the image of Declan's lifeless body comes to my mind. Ugh. What have I gotten myself into?
