All right, that's quite enough time you've spent dilly-dallying. You should find yourself a new shape.

This is a momentous occasion that will shape the next years of your life, if all goes well. This is not an acceptable moment to indulge in such silliness. You are postponing fripperies until further notice, to be deployed when appropriate.

You know full well that a shape must be found, not created.
To find your new shape, you need imagination.
To use imagination, you must find a child.

You check the back yards. Two of the yards have signs of children.

The first yard seems to belong to an active child - there is a baseball, a frisbee, and an empty doghouse.

The second yard seems to belong to a quieter child - there are two books and one plastic teacup.

Which house should you look in to?

Second house; books could mean a more linear imagination. Sometimes the quiet people have the most vivid thoughts.

A quiet child likely needs more understanding companionship and is more likely to be bullied and in need of such a friend.

An active child is likely far more popular, but may be pressured by his parents to succeed and more likely to be miserable from that.

Check in on both children, then we can decide.

The adult, most likely the father, is speaking in quiet and patient tones.

"Claire, I'm not angry you hid the permission slip. I just want to know why."

The child, named Claire, won't look up.

"I don't want to go."

"Why not? You always love the zoo when we go."

"That's different."

"It's not. It'll still be the same zoo as it always is. You're just going to be with your classmates instead of me."

"It's different. I don't want to go."

Claire's father pats her on the head.

"I know you don't, honey. But it'll be fun. You'll see. Now, can I count on you to keep yourself busy for a while? I've got to make some calls."

"Yeah. Okay."

Claire's father kisses her on the head.

"Cheer up, Clairey-berry. It really will be fun."

Claire's father leaves the room. Claire huffs and slumps down, chin on the table.

Aaron says nothing.

"If you want to take the day off of school tomorrow, you can. I'll call, arrange it."

"Maybe. I dunno. Could I just be alone right now?"

"All right. I can do that."

Aaron's mother stands.

"But I want you to tell me if you need anything, okay? I'll be downstairs, just holler."

Aaron's mom leaves, casting worried looks behind her. Aaron pulls his blanket up and burrows in to his bed.

>>
No. 481646 ID: bdb3f8

Loss of a pet is temporary, raw, visceral grief. He will hurt bad, but he should recover in time. Best case scenario is an imaginary friend isn't going to be a long term need for him, and at worst, we drag out the sense of loss by trying to replace the pet, and he doesn't go through the grief process properly.

The girl on the other hand, seems so have a potent imagination and some sort of trouble with the others at school. That is PRIME imaginary friend territory.
>>
No. 481649 ID: 943463

Definitely go with the girl. Besides, the two live right next door to each other; they'll run into each other pretty often, and I feel certain the girl will want to share her imaginary friend with her real friend.

>>

I vote going with the girl. Leaving either is a hard choice, but since we're here looking for imagination, she's probably our best bet. We can help the other kid indirectly, if we're lucky.

>>
No. 481703 ID: bf54a8

also, i'm 100% sure the only thing the boy wants right now is his dog back. if you took on the form of what he wants then you will simply turn into his dog, and he will never get over it.

The glow has led you here, and you have found two children who need a friend. You weigh your options.

Aaron stings with the sharp feel of the recently wounded. Claire has a more gentle hurt - the illness of a long loneliness. But wounds will heal. Sickness is harder to cure.

You choose Claire, the girl, but resolve to help Aaron if you can.

You return to Claire's house. She has retreated to her room, and is now reading a book, titled Princess Mindyswan's Economic Embargo. The air swirls with a strong imagination. She is a good choice.

You must find a shape to approach her in.

It would be wise to use your knowledge of her interests as you choose your new shape. From what you can see of her room, she seems to like owls, bears, nobility, and tea parties.

What shape shall you take?

(Select your introduction shape. This is not a final decision; your shape will be changeable at will, provided you have seeded sufficient imagination.)

You consider taking the shape of the Royal Queen of the Owlbears. It is fittingly dignified for one such as you, you think. But perhaps it needs something more. Should you leave it be, or make changes?

And of course, there is your title. What shall you call yourself? Names, unlike your shape, are much less malleable. You need something appealing, yet flexible.
