I'm... I'm awake. I don't remember the last time I was awake. My mind's been racing for so many years, time running together into one long endless string. But I hear it now, I hear a dull scratching.

I shift around in my pocket of dirt and stone, the noise hesitates. So many things use to dig in the ground, I cannot remember them all anymore, my thoughts are such brief flashing little things...

I can feel it though, I feel to small feet planted firmly, I feel an open tunnel. My mind is stirring, I pour myself into the ground... the tunnel is short and narrow, there's a large antechamber just a few steps back, the creature is alone...

The creature eventually bores a hole into my pocket. My body is weak from so many ages unused, I tumble out in a dusty heap into the chamber is has excavated.

In time my eyes open and focus. It.. oh, it looks like a tiny me, sort of. It's arms blend into its claws, and it's neck is bare. How silly, did it forget how to stand? Is it making fun of me?

I cannot possess living things, my power lies within the substance of the planet, the rocks and dirt, sediment and gems.

He can't possibly be my kind. I am my kind. There were others... we were made by... someone bigger. My mind is addled and I can hardly draw up something so long past. I try to ask for nourishment, but it comes out an embarrassingly garbled jumble of nonsense.

He looks up at me, stunned perhaps? I cannot read his floppy ears. None of my kind would have such a silly worthless feature. I'll just carve it out.
>>

he is like you but more shaped for digging, the floppy ears helps keep dirt from entering the ears during digging. simply put he is made to dig. perhaps they are worthless in other areas but they enabled it to dig out out most effectively.

Clean the dirt and dust of years from your fur. Make yourself as godly in appearance as you feel inside. Present a vision of glory to your people.

Motion for the small male that found you to step forward, and thank him and all his people for finding you and bringing you here.

Carved into their souls like so many dregs in sand, each of them shifting, growing, and spawning, yet it's still there. I can rule them. I can make them a grand force to stand unopposed atop the land that is so very much a piece of me. We can move together upwards, against The Sun who forced me down, The Moon who shunned us! I.. Er... Did you intend to turn the rock under you into a lava pool? Was that a subconscious reaction to thinking about The Sun? Uh, better check if any of your subjects accidentally fell in when it melted too.

Did The Moon usually come to others' aid when they called, back then? 'Cause if The Moon didn't, then you really can't hold a grudge against The Moon.

Anyway, that's for later. For now you'll build up your people and make them strong and prosperous. Time to exercise some divine intervention.

Wade over to the edge of the lava pool, call over Cairn and whatever leaders or elders your subjects have, and ask them what their greatest threat is. You're going to see what you can do about it.

Then perhaps another made your myth real. Or they spontaneously sprang from the belief of the people of the world. Or, most likely, your people simply appropriated the name for another creature. Can't tell without knowing more.

Ask Cairn to describe the alleged "cave trolls" to you, and what they can do, while reading his mind to see what knows of them. Also have him bring over whoever has had the most experience and knowledge of them, and do the same thing as you did with Cairn. Then you'll be able to formulate a plan to deal with them.

From Ice's name, I assume she, or he, is a frost or cold aspect god or goddess. This correct?

And could you please get your people's name for themselves. It's getting awkward calling them "your people" and "your subjects" over and over.

Thank Cairn and Chalk, but do so in what you'd consider a whisper; Your voice is so strong, it's overpowering to such as them.

I think that you should attempt to capture one of the cave trolls alive. Since it is of the earth, and likely of your unwitting creation, then you might be able to bend it to your will if you make mental contact.

With Chalk's knowledge of their behavior and favorite foods, you could lay a trap for them in or on the way to the supply cache. A simple pit trap, covered with a thin, indistinguishable layer of rock stretched from the rest of the floor over the top of it, and baited with food, would do to capture one alive. Your people could dig the pit, but is your power up to bending the rock in such a way to cover it?

Reward...? Should... should I give them a gem? I'm not sure how rewarding works for mortals.... >477973 Respect is earned. Cairn and Chalk are well on their way to that, but the 40 odd some dogs left here are nowhere to be seen. I suppose slaughter would be the best option, I can't imagine the dogs are happy with them. Removing the cause stops the symptoms. I take some time to orientate myself before setting off into the tunnels. Their work is a bit sloppy, but for such small creatures I find myself impressed. I would bet gold that Ice does not have such fine creatures. It takes about an hour by my judging to get to the chamber along this tunnel. I'm hit by a thick rancid smell, and there's something I think...

Actually, Slam it's head into the ground as you drive a spike into it's head from the ground.

Grab a suitably sized rock and chuck it into it's mouth. Rapidly reform the rock once it has passed the creatures teeth to stretch out as a double-ended spike, through it's head and jaw. Add from spikly protuberances around where the rock-spike meets the roof and bottom of its mouth, so it can't close its mouth.

I bore my claws into the wall and rip out what I can to force into its mouth. Bastardly thing slams its... mouth? Its mouth like a vice, nearly taking my hand with it. I attempt to wrench its jaw open. >>485606 I've hardly come back from being dead, my powers are negligible!

Closed is a perfectly acceptable position for a giant set of jaws next to your head. Keeping them that way would be great.

Try to look around for any sensory organs it has that you can then gouge. If there are no obvious eyes or anything ripping its glow-stalk off will have to do.

Do you have enough power to command the rock to fracture? 'Cause if you do, hold the beast's jaw shut with one arm, slap your free paw upon the cave wall, and order the stone to crack. Let gravity work for you to bring the roof of the tunnel this creature is in down upon it.
