They say, a good friend would go and look for him herself.

Good thing then, that Sally is a good friend.

Sally arrives in front of the Miner's Inn and Motel in Outpost 73. This is the place from which Marcus last contacted her.

be cool, walk in and sit down and scan the people.

Sally steps in. How disappointing. How is this even an Inn? There is a chair to sit on here, but Sally would only be able to scan one person: The one with the baseball cap behind the newspaper, behind the counter.
It's not much warmer in here than outside, but a bit of warmth radiates from the counter. The wall in the back is adorned with an advertisement poster, a bulletin board and a list of house rules.
None of these really pique Sally's interest. She has more important things on her mind.

Well, if you friend was last seen here, the logical thing to do would be to hit up the counter-person for leads.

Examine poster. It looks like there was one covering it that got torn off roughly.

Sally doesn't think examining the poster is worth her currently precious time. This place is probably just a complete shithole.

Instead she moves towards the counter and thinks about what to say to the counter-person.

What abilities does Sally have?
>>
No. 459952 ID: 79b622

Yeah, seconding abilities question. Also, inventory? If we have a picture of Dr. Teller, we can ask the counter person about him.

Sally takes a moment to recall her qualities.
She considers herself to be in good physical condition and quite sharp. She is a space navigator and rather good at her job. She never trained with the armed forces (a godsend, with the current political situation an all) but she knows basic self-defense. She concedes that she might be a little rusty in that department.
She isn't much of a people person but can get really chummy with people she knows.

Sally currently has Stock 5. This means that she has about ten undetermined items on her. She can expend stock at any time to pull items she needs from her pockets.

What exactly did Marcus say the last time you spoke to him?

Just say to the clerk that you're looking for your friend Doctor Marcus who probably passed through here at some point a few weeks ago.

To clarify, Sally can only have things she would logically have a way of owning. Experimentation may be the key.

Last time Sally talked to Marcus, he was rather brief. He talked about how he actually found a lot of really interesting things somewhere and that he'd head out early to examine them more closely. He also asked Sally to take good care of his wife Patricia.
Sally wishes she had paid better attention and shown more interest in his work, because then she might already know where he went.

She steps towards the counter and strikes up a conversation.
"Hey, there. A friend of mine was here a while ago.", she says.

The man behind the counter stammers: "Uh, yeah? Well, uh, a lot of folks pass by here, so you'll have to be more specific about that."

"I am looking for Doctor Marcus Teller. He should have been here a few weeks ago.", Sally adds.

The man raises his eyebrows and answers: "Oh yeah, that fellow. What a peculiar man. He stored a whole bunch of stuff in his room, paid for thirty nights and stayed only fourteen. Hasn't been around for about a month, though. Said he'd delve into some old mine and that's the last anyone's heard of him. Hey, if you find him, tell him he owes me several nights of rent."
>>
No. 460479 ID: 86c3a7

I'd don't see how he owes you anything if he paid for twice the time he used.

Do you still have his things?
>>
No. 460559 ID: 6cc859

There might be a lead in his stuff, and you shouldn't let it get thrown away/auctioned off either. Failing that, ask him/others about the mine or nearby mines in general to see if you can work out exactly where this is.

Stare even harder at this self contradictory fellow.
