A Dorylus driver ant, A Dory for short, has flown away from the earlier colony of driver ants and founds a new one.

How any worker ants should be distributed to different specialised occupations?

Nursing enhances population growth by (+0.5 ants per day per a worker ant nursing) if there is enough food.

A ranger ant increases scouting, but also increases ranger ant fatality by 0.05 ant per ant per day outside soldier columns.

A farmer ant increases food production by 200% if connected to a food source.

A cleaner-and-gravedigger-ant prevents sickness and counts the dead. One ant has the capacity to keep 20 ants clean and counted.

A soldier ant decreases overall fatality depending of the situation.

The most obvious options are to concentrate on farming, nursing or safety. There are other different options too and many options to be. One of them is to concentrate to subterranean tunneling or above-ground nest. As a tip, for example nursery complexes increase certain functions of the nest.

The female scientist workers notice that the air moisture is increasing.

Send some rangers out to find food, and then make a guarded path to it with your soldiers for the farmers to gather.
>>

you need to dig like five times deeper and move the queen's crib there. make two rooms with 10 soldiers posted directly adjacent to the corridor leading to the queen's new chamber. the rest should be on patrol duty.

10 farmers, 10 nursers and 5 cleaners should do for now. maybe 10 or so rangers to explore surroundings... better be prepared for any nasty surprises.

oh, and make sure everyone stays indoors when it starts to rain- that's when all the slugs and worms and stuff come out, not to mention the hazard of the water itself.

Day 2.

The immediate surroundings have been scouted. A rich food source found inside the rotten tree. Its defenseless worms and molluscs make a fine meal! This location is fertile indeed! Current food production is

Workers x food source x farmer ratio bonus
50 x 4 x 1.25 x 200% = 500 food units (class 1 ration per day)

A new generation is being grown and will reach maturity in one day. It consists of 100 juvenile pupae.

You are now able to grow class 2 workers. They are stronger and consume more food (1.5 food units per day). They are more vulnerable to food shortages.

The genetic imprint that you control gives the instructions to ants in certain environment to behave as different castes and occupations. To save the energy of the swarm these ants sepcialize in their tasks. Farmer ants grow and take care of the food that either "mover" workers, the unspecialized worker and ranger ants carry into the nest. I had some mistakes in my latest update. Sigh, it takes so much concentration with all these charts.

author's note I made a GM chart of the numbers. I will draw ant numbers from these calculations from ow on.

Because of the increase in food amount, the queen will lay fertile eggs at a rate of ~250% compared to the earlier speed. This will be seen as a population growth of 256 new ants.

The food production for the next day is 714. This amount could feed 357 class 1 soldiers.

The gravedigger ants have buried one body. Our current population is 199.

A new storage has been excavated.
Ant bodies can be used for food for soldiers when the brain creator chamber has created Aggressor soldier ant class by anxiety research. Aggressive soldiers are bred when the nest is abandoned and the ant army is created.

Are you going to establish a fixed soldier worker specialist ratio for new adults born? The next generation is the size of 256 ants and the next will be even greater depending on the choices made in gathering.

Like this, but also increase the ratio of class 2 workers so that perhaps 30% of our workers are C2.
I assume the C2 Workers are stronger and more durable so prioritize them for the outdoor work like ranger work and food gathering. Also maybe farming and a little cleaning.

We don't need aggressive soldiers yet. Might be better to focus on chemical warfare methods. Or smaller support soldiers that use less food, help out more in the hive and fight by overwhelming with numbers, speed and sharp bites.

During the past two weeks the population has been growing exponentially. The population is 1088 with only 10 fatalities thanks to the guarded work path. Because of success in fungi farming and an access to a rich food source the colony will next week consist of 2434 individual ants.

Meanwhile the rangers have only found a lesser source of additional food. Its value is 2 compared to the current food source value of 4 and will cause a minor food shortage with this pace of population growth. The queen lays eggs depending on the excess food the colony has to store. The depletion time of the current value 4 food source is unknown.

Expand the queen chamber to put the queen deeper and safer with another guard post between her and the surface. Dig it in an 'S' shape maybe? More egg space. More protection.

Start using the lesser food source, set maybe 15% of the harvest force to use it initially if nothing else then to claim it for the colony. Try to get science ants to estimate how long the different sources will last. Try to harvest responsibly. Let those worms and molluscs repopulate if possible.

Try to fortify aboveground too. Set up defenses around the skull. See if the explorers can bring back seeds that can be planted nearby to provide more immediate cover.

Let the rangers continue exploring until we know how our food supplies are going to pan out in the longer term.

Wait, where did that water at the bottom come from? I have a suspicion that it's where the underground water starts... That means we must expand horizontally now.
Which is a good idea anyway. Dig more infrastructure in the direction of the food source. Make more exits to the surface. The exits should be raised above the ground level and covered with leaves.

Consider making straight-down drainage pipes to drain the water from near the exits quicker.

Also dig a network of narrow tunnels (enough for 2 big ants to go alongside) in all directions. This will be our surveillance and communications network. Establish patrols. Establish guard posts at intervals. Make some more exits, it'll be the early warning system. Make the tunnels easily collapsible in case of emergency.

The second farm will boost food production by 50% points in a few days. The current food source of value 4 will be depleted in 4 days. A food shortage isn't inexorable. Guarded work path? Seems risky. Get some of our finest class 2 workers to burrow an underground path to the other quality 4 food source instead!

Expand the second farm and add an air vent leading down to the water reservoir so the farm is kept nice and moist.

The science ants are underperforming. Reassign their current lab to be part of the main nursery and try to generally enlarge it, but cut off or block that path leading straight from the surface to the nursery. it is too open! Build two new labs. One small surface lab very close to the surface far away from ant paths for hazardous testing. Also make a deep top secret lab which should be a perfectly circular toroid somewhere far down where the scientist ants can think in peace. Maybe somewhere below the new storage?

Cut the production of all castes except soldiers and cleaners by 50% and have those ants be born as soldiers instead. It's time to prep to swarm right over that other colony. Those production characteristics won't be sustainable in the long term, but we only need to hold out long enough to eliminate the other colony, and that should kill off a lot of our soldiers so we won't have to feed them later.

Holy F, a timeskip! So many things happened!
It seems that the time in the colony flows at 1:1 rate with the real time. In that case, I want an update per day, because micromanagement.
What is known about the hostile ant colony? What species? What is their POWER LEVEL aka population (at least an estimate), how advanced are their units as compared to us? Is diplomancy an option? (Not that I have any inclination to use it...)

Animal Husbandry, yay! What useful critters can we domesticate? What critters can we control? What I want is:
- a digger beetle for making more tunnels (consider using worms too);
- a carrier beetle to haul material goods;
- maybe a runner beetle for scouting/message transfer?
- of course, a dedicated assault beetle, which will probably be analogous to an Infantry Fighting Vehicle or maybe a light tank;
- several kinds of foodstock critters;
- a gunship aka wasp (air superiority + scouting out that "island");
- some kind of aerial hauler (for colonizing that "island" later).
Wait, does our own species have an air-capable stage in the lifecycle? If yes, what is its capabilities?

Investigate whether someone accessible produces anything that could be used for constructing fortifications, perhaps something like glue to reinforce the walls. (That would awesome for construction overall.)
What do we need to harvest spider silk?
What poisonous substances do we have and can we turn them into chemical weapons?
It's time to see the tech tree.

The tunnel, let's call it Interstate 1, how wide is it? Once we get carrier beetles, two of them must be able to fit in it.

By the way, we are supposed to be a migrating species. Our low population, agriculture and (in the immediate future) animal husbandry has allowed us to stay in one place for now; it may or may not last.

I propose we set our long-term goal to colonizing the island. It's a naturally defended location (that's just a small stream, not a full-fledged river, right?) that will be awesome for a stronghold.

The battle records are unknown because the ~100 cleaner ants got all torn into pieces when trying to count the bodies. ~50 ranger ants have been torn into pieces while scouting the advancement of the “sexy ant” army. But the queen has an idea that the enemy could have reproduced 2 times faster than she has, if the ants are small, which they are, and that they could by now be counted IN TENS OF THOUSANDS.

Our army has the capability to form chitin walls from the living bodies of ants. Soldier ants can then be mounted on the ant palisades which gives them a remarkable terrain advantage, being able to cut the enemy ant bodies from above where they’re the weakest.

The animal husbandry is mostly using currently existing worm holes and milking certain insects that live in trees. It also provides a strategy for replenishing nearby mollusc populations so that the food source doesn’t entirely deplete but is given time to REGENERATE.

>>The tunnel, let's call it Interstate 1, how wide is it? Once we get carrier beetles, two of them must be able to fit in it.

Alright. Let’s call it Interstate 1.

>>By the way, we are supposed to be a migrating species. Our low population, agriculture and (in the immediate future) animal husbandry has allowed us to stay in one place for now; it may or may not last.

Pretty clever! This is true. The food supplies the rangers have magnificently mapped out can sustain the critical growth of the colony 6 days each. After this the surrounding resources will produce too little food to grow the numbers, and this is when the army of ants should be mobilized.

>>I propose we set our long-term goal to colonizing the island. It's a naturally defended location (that's just a small stream, not a full-fledged river, right?) that will be awesome for a stronghold.

COLONIZING THE ISLAND is pretty possible by creating a body of bridge from unspecialized worker ants. This will cost maybe a hundred or more ant lives, but the purpose is glorious!

The sexy ants must get their food from somewhere. The question is, from where?
I propose forcibly colonizing the next food source in the direction of Interstate 1. Send soldiers, ravage the enemy food caravans, establish our glorious presence and start digging from there to the abandoned base. BUT! Do not dig all the way, stop at about 2/3 of the way (pic related). The underground part will be Interstate 1.1, until the sexy ants are gone; then it'll be merged into Interstate 1.
Establish patrols and fortifications (walls to mount soldier ants on) at the marked locations. We must be always ready to repeal a counter-sexpedition.
The red question marks are where we should conduct some armed reconnaisance to learn where else do the sexy ants go.
The big black question marks are where we should do more scouting.

Moving on.
Why do we have so many workers? Convert 2000 of them into soldiers. Produce more soldiers. Research class 2 soldiers. Start producing Class 1 Workers too; from now on and until we say otherwise, maintain a 3:1 ratio between the class 1 and 2 workers. (They eat less, but are able to do jobs just fine. The Class 2 workers will take over when necessary.)
Expand the farms, decrease consumption from food sources.

Important!
In which direction does the stream flow?
What are the "flying eaters" - birds or (smaller) insects?
I want a topographical map of the area, with heights and trees and stuff. Also the scale would be great.

Dig in for now and forage from the western and southern food sources. Consider tunneling to the food patch down south. It's a long trek, but worth it for the protection from the flying threat.

Start researching the class 2 soldier. Maybe one with tricks to it like acid, venom or trap jaws. Once ready the whole colony should just get up and overwhelm the other ants. Maybe burrow into their hive and strike from the inside to kill their queen.

Start digging an assault tunnel starting near, but not connected to the interstate crossroads. Quietly dig the tunnel towards the sexy ant underground nest, but try not to breach it yet if possible. When the main attack starts our most elite ants will rush in to assassinate and saboutage.

Send more rangers/scouts out to the south to see if there is anything interesting.

465207

It has been 14 days since the Sexpedition. The population is 164 637.

The great war is knocking the door. There are now more class 1 soldiers than there are class 1 and class 2 workers combined. A food shortage is imminent. The current food supply is negative by roughly 10 000 food units, that means less than -10% feed factor and causes no penalties nor fatalities, but is a gentle knock of energy running out of the colony. A food source at the Interstate 1 is running out of substance.

>>Perhaps we should raid the sexy ant nest? That'd be cool.

We think we have the strength now (more soldiers than workers, an attack would also balance out the food supply as well). Proceed with a rush strike?

>>start stocking up on food. a lot of it. then spend it all on class 2 soldiers. and attack.

A sound plan! Stock up power and proceed with a major offensive?
Should we allocate 40% of the class 1 and class 2 workers on farming and 40% of them on food collection from nursing, ranging and cleaning? This would lower later growth and increase waste in the nest.

>>Don't convert, put MILITIA ANTS on the "to be researched" list after research on soldier level 2 is completed

There’s still about 3 days until the Soldier level 2 is completed.

>>Expand the labs. Maybe add a surface research lab and a deep down high-security lab.
>>Add storage next to the right side farm.

>>Start digging an assault tunnel starting near, but not connected to the interstate crossroads. Quietly dig the tunnel towards the sexy ant underground nest, but try not >>to breach it yet if possible. When the main attack starts our most elite ants will rush in >>to assassinate and saboutage.

>>Send more rangers/scouts out to the south to see if there is anything interesting.

Expanding the labs will drastically speed up the research. We’re expanding the labs above ground and deep down.

An assault tunnel! An amazing approach to a major offensive! We’re not thinking of connecting the attack tunnel to the interstate or the nest. The time consumed now only depends on how wide the attack tunnel should be? A one ant wide tunnel would be the fastest way. However, the amount of commando ants that can enter the sexy ant nest through this tunnel before the alarm is questionable. It would take three days to finish the one ant wide tunnel with as many ants digging it as possible while digging a wider tunnel only takes as much, but requires more soldier labour. Also, the closer the enemy nest the tunnel entrance is the faster it is to dig and the less it requires labour.

Most of the rangers assigned to scouting the south.

A wide tunnel isn't necessary. Be efficient. I suggest just creating an ant loaded staging post with some food supplies near the very end of the tunnel , then aim for multiple simultaneous nest breaches [See image], unloading a few thousand soldiers together with a few raiding workers in a matter of minutes. These ants will have little chance of a retreat, but our goal is nothing less than the assassination of their queen and the destruction of their society. I guess plan is still to strike aboveground and underground at the same time for maximum confusion once we have some level 2 soldiers to lead the spearhead.

Expand the nurseries. If we can steal their eggs then we will need a place for them.

>>Should we allocate 40% of the class 1 and class 2 workers on farming and 40% of them on food collection from nursing, ranging and cleaning?

Heavier farming? Go for it. Hopefully we can make advances in our farming tech soon. Also get the workers to overharvest the outside food sources a day or two before the attack. It'll lower long term food production a bit, but it'll let our guys fatten up and recover energy before the attack. A lot of them are going to die anyway so the food reserves can regrow afterwards.
>>
No. 465339 ID: 5b26d6

that worker allocation thing, do that. and send like a third of your soldiers to attack them so they die and don't have to be fed, and also to observe the results. and make sure you don't mess up the observing this time! have some of the soldiers actively protect the cleaners.

It is day 41. We sent as many troops as we could to confront the enemy and not only did kill their queen, but executed all the soldiers and all the workers and sliced them into fodder. Farming will be boosted for the next 7 days.

We've completed the research of Soldier Class 2.

cease producing a surplus of soldiers, and produce 'em class 2 from now on. make many many workers instead, and either take over their nest and combine it with ours, or if that isn't a plausible course of action, expand our farms to thrice its current size. in either case, our farmer and nurser populations should increase accordingly. and I'm thinking also the rangers because why the hell not explore around some more.

What's that red thing on top of the conquered hive anyway? Is it... meat? If so, research meat eating. Otherwise research the flying eaters. I'd like to know what's waiting across the river before we start making bridges.

It's day 42.

The current population is 860 000. We're facing a minor food shortage in a few days. The Feed ratio is 1.2 today, and will be 1.1 tomorrow and 1.0 the day after tomorrow. The food sources are really running out. Even though we're farming like hell, that won't help with this kind of population expansion.

>>461890

The scouts have found an unpassable stream in the south. Wait! They've also found a tree trunk lying across the stream.

We're still scouting the north.

We've also connected the two nests with a tunnel.

We're researching Bridge Building.

Conquer the river log immediately. Create small bases on each side of the river and start building a tunnel towards the nutritious and useful log. Travel overland to farm it in the short term.

More food and territory is required. Initiate a mini crusade! Send out something like 100 000 ants in 20-1000 ant groups in all directions (and slightly more across the river). Give them orders to return to the hive only if anything noteworthy is found, be it food, enemies or interesting terrain features. Many will die, but if more food sources are found then the population growth can be sustained longer. Our explored lands should also expand substantially from this.
