You continue up the tunnel, and reach upward, consuming the now familiar construct.

[Stickiness: 15/100]

You now can clearly sense the source of the earlier movement. An odd, round object appears to be hanging in one of the nearby constructs, swinging slightly. Additionally, a large construct exists further up the tunnel.

As you make note of these, a sudden thump is heard, and the entire tunnel shakes slightly.

Very well, let us pause for a moment in case it shakes further.

If not, then we should go up and consume more webs.

You quickly pool yourself into the dip in the base of the tunnel, and brace yourself. However, your precautions seem unneeded, as after another, smaller, thump, all movement ceases. Curiosity once again rises in you, but is tempered by a new emotion, which urges you to stay put.

You guess you'll think of a name for that one later.

For now, you reach upward from your position, extending a tendril to flail about in the space above, and gather more of the construct.

[Stickiness: 20/100]

Reaching for the next construct, you notice that you simply do not have the leverage, nor the grip, to maneuver your mass into the above tunnel from this position. You also note two other interesting points. The first is a new object, or group of objects, resting at the back of the tunnel. They appear to be round, and tightly grouped.

The second is that you seem to be tiring now, much faster than your previous actions would have lead you to expect.

You consider both these points while flailing another tendril, beginning to consume more of the construct.

You decide to move to the lower tunnel, crossing the entrance easily and moving to consume the next construct. As you do so, another thump is heard, but this one is unaccompanied by the earlier shaking, and you continue without incident.

You begin to pool downward, towards the object you sensed movement from previously. As you envelop it, the outside is revealed to be wrapped in layers of the construct, which dissolve almost instantly, revealing a familiar interior. The object is similar, if smaller than, the liquid-covered object you encountered when you first left your dish, and you eagerly envelop your new find.

This one seems to already be somewhat liquid, though the remaining solid parts will take some time to consume.

Can we go up any further? If not we may as well return to the entrance, recover our other objects, and investigate the thumping.
>>
No. 383649 ID: ec0bf5

Hmm. It doesn't look like we can go further up in the spider hole or get the eggs, so we should probably VERY carefully try looking around outside to make sure nobody sees you. They might be looking for where their experiment went, or not, but someone's definitely there.
>>
No. 383665 ID: 1854db

...we COULD try going back up to get the eggs now that we have this new construct. Don't we have some sort of ability that lets us harden, or something? That could give us the strength to go up there.

You decide to investigate the round objects and eventually find that bracing yourself across the nearby gap allows you to reach a significant portion of your mass upward into the alcove. However, despite your stretching, you cannot reach the orbs.

You do, however, absorb more construct.

[Stickiness: 26/100]

As you wave your tendril blindly about above you, you notice that it is significantly easier to maintain your grip on the edges of the gap than you originally expected. Perhaps you can extend more mass without falling.

You also sense a new noise, a long, drawn-out scrape, coming from outside the tunnel. You are unsure what this new noise indicates, but are pleased that it does not result in any more shaking.

Split that tendril into two tendrils and brace them against the top and bottom of the tunnel.

Guys, it's a CHAIR being moved, not the table.

Try pushing more mass up. Maybe grip onto the side of the path?

As you ponder how to reach the orbs, several quieter thumps are heard, culminating in the beginning of an odd, constant whirr.

None of these shake the tunnel, but they are enough to draw some measure of your curiosity. You briefly consider searching for the source of the noise, but quickly decide that the orbs will yield a much more interesting prize.

You split your tendril, shortening it drastically, but allowing you to brace it against the sides of the alcove, noting that you have gained some measure of grip, most likely from consuming the strands of construct.
Had you not done so, it is likely you would not have been able to hold so securely.

You begin to siphon your mass upward, through the tendrils, estimating that they should be able to hold your weight. Two things come to your attention: The first, that this is much slower and harder than it should be, tiring you out significantly more than the only other occasion you have had to haul your mass upward, over the lip of your dish. The second, that the whirring outside has suddenly increased in volume, and a scraping at the tunnel entrance can be heard in accompaniment. The tunnel vibrates.

Sounds like they're doing something to the table, or on the table.

Get the eggs. That's kindof top priority at the moment.
>>
No. 384026 ID: 4a7115

the whirring sound worries me... especially getting closer (did they put some sort of tracer device into this tunnel? why would they even think to?)

in terms of efficiency, think you could climb left and then just bridge the gap rather then climbing to the right as you are now?

Maybe it's the cleaning staff with a vacuum cleaner? They're not going to look for you very seriously even if they do notice you're gone. Nobody would suspect the weird pile of goop they made was intelligent and mobile unless they actually saw it do something. It makes no sense! The table being moved actually would support it being a janitor. However, it's worth taking a peek... as soon as we get these eggs. I'm not too worried anymore.

Deciding to speed your progress, you drop the two objects you are carrying. You notice that they seem somewhat difficult to release, but still manage to force them out of your body fairly easily. They fall, and bounce into the tunnel below. The sudden reduction in mass allows you to drag the majority of yourself up into the alcove. You continue to drag your now free-hanging mass upward, and move towards the orbs...

...When the whirring noise is joined by a hiss, and, with a sudden thump, the entire tunnel begins to vibrate violently! You feel your mass being dragged downward, and sense many objects also experiencing the same force, tumbling toward the tunnel entrance! Despite much of your mass being in the alcove, you don't believe you can both hold yourself in place, and in one piece, for much longer...
>>

You realize that continuing to hold on to the alcove walls will tear you apart, and try to release them, but find your new-found grip hard to break. You fall, and your mass separates, but due to your efforts it is much less than it otherwise would have been.

[Mass Loss: 9]

...until one of the creatures that inhabits the tunnel bumps into the object as well, and sends you once more tumbling through the tunnels, leaving yet more of your mass behind.

By this point, the new emotion that you experienced earlier has completely consumed you.
So much so that you can't think of a name for it, as you are too busy trying to hold on to anything as tight as you can.

Accordingly, you follow the objects path further down.

You ricochet off a wall, and tumble towards the tunnel entrance. You can now sense that it extends into a differently shaped tunnel, the source of the force drawing you in.

In front of you, you see the other object you held bounce off the thin, large object, which appears securely locked in place. It tumbles onward, toward the new tunnel.

You desperately wish to stop moving, but gripping the object as you pass it could be dangerous. You are moving very fast.

You jolt back into conciousness, in an area unfamiliar to you. The loud whirring has increased in volume, and is accompanied by a constant, strong, vibration. You rest partially upon one of the tough objects, still drawn sideways by the mysterious force. However, the remainder of your mass rests on a large amount of dust, far more thickly layered than that which you have found before. Small, familiar flares exist within it, and you immediately set about consuming them, and the detritus that carries them.

Numerous portions of your mass are littered about this area, crawling about the debris. You have some difficulty sensing them due to the vibrations, and are unable to sense anything outside your new containment.

You feel considerably smaller, weaker, and hungrier than ever before.
