Nah, not gonna be that easy. This is obviously one of those quests where we have to help Mr. Blinky collect stuff for the trade.
So, real world ghosty, ethereal plane ghosty, or afterlife ghosty? Need to know these things, mr ghost.

You awake to find yourself dead.
Well technically you don't wake up at all but that's beside the point. You're dead. Or someone is dead. There's a body in this coffin and you are a ghost so it's probably you. Maybe. You can't really remember anything about being mortal, so it's a mystery, really.
It's not a big deal, being a ghost is pretty cool. All sorts of cool powers at your disposal. You can see forever. Forever looks pretty awesome.

Anyway the crypt keeper is preparing your body for burial. Or some guy's body. Who knows? It appears that there were instructions to bury the body with a sword, but the crypt keeper is having other thoughts. No Kalevallan man worth his salt would put a good sword to waste by giving it to a corpse. You aren't sure how you know he is from Kalevalla or that his people are not wasteful, but you do. Ghostly wisdom, obviously.

Ahh but first thing's first- Let's see what this chump - I mean your name is.

The name on the coffin lid reads....
>>
No. 289488 ID: cb45f0

John Shike. Possess that asshole about to jack your sweet sword.
>>
No. 289491 ID: 370692

your name is John CASPER. tell us a little more what forever looks like before or after you possess that dude. if, you know, you can do that

John Casper. No idea if it's actually yours or not, but you'll take it.

>Possess Crypt Keeper

You possess the asshole who was about to jack your sweet sword. You have no problem jacking his body.
This body is kinda groudy though. Not just physically. Yeah the dude could use a bath. But his mind and soul are so impure that the possession is almost painful. This possession thing might not work out too well in the long run for him.

>Look at Forever

Whoa holy shit it's like staring at every color ever and even a few colors that don't actually exist and they've all been put under every filter in Photoshop, including nuclear lens flare. You know what Photoshop is because you've seen people using it in the future. That might also explain some of your anachronistic colloquialisms. Yeah that's why.

cool. hmm... take a finger bone from the corpse, just in case it IS your corpse and you aren't aloud to move to far from it. should loophole that rule well enough.
then let's go out and see what we can do.

let the crypt keeper stare into forever for a second as punishment for trying to jack your sword, human minds more than likely can't look at it without going crazy. Also use it as a test to see if it makes him easier to manipulate, it should be a given folks with a looser grasp on themselves are easy pickins

(Now with discussion thread: http://www1.tgchan.org/kusaba/questdis/res/343723.html)

>Take Finger

You hack off a little piece of the corpse's left pinky. He isn't using it anyway. Thankfully it doesn't make too much of a mess, it'd be a shame to get these nice grave digging garments dirty. You pocket it, juuust in case.

>Examine Corpse
John Casper is looking pretty suave. For a dead guy with a chunk of finger missing. He is in his nicest garments, as if he were about to hit up the fanciest shindig in the afterlife. Like any good kleptomaniac hero, you search his person and locate a gold ring with the Casper family crest and a lovely silver pocket watch.

>Put the next to the corpse.
You- Wait what?

>Crypt Keeper: Look at Forever

You show the Crypt Keeper forever, but his mortal eyes cannot see it. Man, it sure is a bummer having all these wacky bonus powers and not being able to use them directly on mortals. In fact, a lot of your extra senses are feeling rather dull since you entered the body.Even bad ass ghost powers have restrictions.

>Exit
You leave the building you were in....

GRAVEYARD

The gate enclosed area is littered with grave stones of varying sizes. Not too far away is the empty grave awaiting John Casper's coffin. Beyond the gates you can see glorious town of Eldrelan. This graveyard is located beside Eldrelan's grand cathedral, the largest and fanciest place of worship on this continent. Probably the world, but they don't want to brag too much.
Beyond the cathedral district lies a bustling market place and the King's castle. Although you can't see from here, you're pretty sure there is also a grand library, red light district, various posh manses, docks, and barracks, to name a few venues. Plenty of places to look for a better host.

hmmm, can you dig up any memories from the crypt keeper? just have him gather all his money then go to the market and blow it all on stuff you may need. leaving him broke seems like a good punishment for trying to steal.
>>

somehow i think bankrupting some guy for trying to swipe a sword is a little harsh
instead, access this guy's memories, go to his house (or bank), take HALF of his life savings, THEN spend all of THAT on shit we gon' need

>Examine Memories

Looking through this guy's mind is like digging through a garbage can. Gross.
You pick through memories of varying times in his life, searching for the more recent ones. One of his childhood in the slums. The first time he prepared a body for burial. Getting drunk and picking a fight. Burying a small bag of coins in the corner of a dirty shack - There we go.

You locate his living quarters on the far end of the graveyard - A tiny shack tucked into the corner, not too far away from the shed where his grim work was done. In fact, the work shed was probably bigger than these living quarters.

>Take Money
The inside of his shack doesn't even have proper flooring. The loose mound of dirt in the corner is a tell tale sign of his hidden money. You dig it up only to find a disappointing amount of coin. You aren't a total dick, so you only take two of the four pieces of silver and a small handful of copper.
There isn't much in the house worth stealing, except an old feed sack that you decide to borrow for the rest of your sweet loot. You put your finger piece, ring, pocket watch, and coins in it before reburying the remaining coins and leaving.

>Go to Market

You cut past the cathedral to go to the Market. The streets are busy with... well, business. Carts and tables of traveling merchants and farmers take every available free space on the sides of the roads along side shops of permanent vendors. You can probably find just about anything in a market place like this. Eldrelan, after all, is one of the largest cities.

get a whetstone. don't want your awesome sword to get dull. then let's just wander around until we find something neat. or someone just asking to be possessed.
>>
No. 289889 ID: 370692

there is probably not much that can be bought that would benefit longterm such a mobile entity as a ghost
so, just buy a whetstone and a sheath for the sword, then search around for an enchanted items shop or somesuch; if one can't be found, quickly jump to nearby people and search their memories before jumping back to our mortician
>>
No. 290251 ID: 676156

Keep an eye out for any noble knights. They would probably be pure and physically tough, so, good host material. When you find one to replace this grody guy, make him impale himself with your sweet sword, then possess your new host and take all the stuff you have.

If you want to be nice, then make the gravekeeper fall asleep, instead.

>Get Whetstone and Sheath

You find an ordinary weapon smith shop and purchase a small whetstone and a simple leather sheath for your sword. It costs you 26 copper, total. You have 2 silver and 3 copper left.

>Examine Memories of the crowd
As you wander through the crowd you visit each passerby just briefly enough to pick up a few memories relevant to current event and general information about the city.

'I wonder if they've finished clearing out that goblin infestation down town...'
'Hmm I wonder how much it would cost to have my favorite cloak enchanted to repel dirt... I suppose I'll ask around next time I'm in the mage district...'
'How do those Aerians afford to dress like that? Even Lady Miranda's servants were wearing silk...'
'Maybe by the time I have lunch those damn snooping wizards will be out of the barracks...'

>Locate a noble knight

You mozy on towards the king's castle. That's gotta be just stuffed with knights with delicious pure souls. Conveniently, the Mage District appears to be neighboring the castle. Perhaps a visit to some enchanters is in order.
But first, you take a peak at the barracks for some promising possessing material....

The gates of the outermost wall are open, but watched. There appears to be many visitors and guards going in and out today. Either the gate watchman is lazy today or security is rather lax. Probably the latter - The city appears rather peaceful apart from a single trouble making ghost.
You go towards the training grounds used by the king's soldiers. As you look over your prospects for new bodies - I mean hosts, your attention is drawn by a gentleman with long curly hair. He bears the royal purple tabard of the king's mages. You assume. It seems like it's been quite a while since you've seen that silver and yellow insignia but you're pretty sure it was the Royal Mages' symbol.
This fellow has a strong aura. You find yourself drawn to him ... Like an insect of the order Lepidoptera to a rapid oxidation of combustible material.
He is currently in a heated discussion with another fellow in armor. He is distracted from his conversation as you draw nearer. He eyes you suspiciously.

>Play it cool.

The mage dismisses the guard he with a wave of his palm. The guard leaves, disgruntled. The mage turns is attention fully to you.
"What are you doing here?" He asks, his tone demanding.

You give him a smarmy yet mysterious grin. "Just a delivery, good sir."

He considers you for a moment, scowling thoughtfully. "Come with me please." He says as he heads down a hall briskly.

"I didn't say it was for you, now did I?" You say sassily. You sassy ghost you. You follow him anyway and he doesn't bother backtalking you since you're still with him.

You are lead to a secluded room that is rather bare of decoration. It contains only a utilitarian table and set of chairs, likely used for meetings.

He studies you for another brief moment, so you decide to do the same to him. His aura is quite interesting to you. You vaguely remember priests having strong auras as well. And ghost hunters. Some children had auras like this as well but grew out of it. What they all had in common was the ability to sense or see spirits to some degree. You can only hope this fellow would be more interested in collaborating with you than destroying you...

AW FUK
WAT

You have been ejected from the crypt keeper's body by a mere slip of parchment. How embarrassing.

The crypt keeper falls to the floor, unconscious. The mage grins to himself. "Hah! So that does work! Never thought I'd get to test that one inside the city-" His smile fades when he sees you still quite alive - or uh - undead? Uhhh NOT re-dead.
Still there.
"Alright what the hell."

Perhaps a peace offering is in order. You need a decent mortal being you can utilize properly. Also it would be nice if he stopped trying to exorcise you. Hmmm, but what do you have to offer this man? Perhaps a small piece of your power...

>Offer the power of Protection

"Not all spirits are bad, you know." You chide him. "In fact, I think quite a lot of GOOD will come of our collaboration. I need a physical medium, and you..." You float about the mage and appraise him. "Ahh yes, I bet you could use some protective magic." You extend a coalesced ball of magic and offer it him.

The man is dubious - and rightly so. But he looks curious. Interested. And just a bit greedy. You consider going into traveling salesmanship if this whole all powerful manipulative ghost thing doesn't work out for you.

"You don't appear malicious... The magic feels legitimate..." He strokes his stupid little beard in thought. "Very well. We have a deal."

You shake on it.

You slip into the man's body like an old pair of pants. Ahhh cozy.
It's more than just cozy, it feels damn GOOD. As you settle into the body, the man's body, you feel yourself strangely enveloped in his psyche. Your consciousnesses begin to merge... Hey, is it getting grayer in here?

You are MAGE-KNIGHT Percival Remington. Well technically you are still a Mage Page but that just sounds ridiculous so no one uses that term. You have only been in the King's service for a year. Your SKILLS include RUNE BASED MAGIC, FENCING, and BEAUTIFUL PENMANSHIP. You had to study in wizard school for a while longer to become adept at sorcery because you were COMPLETELY INEPT at all other forms of magic other than RUNES which are WOEFULLY IMPRACTICAL IN BATTLE. Thankfully, you are fuckin' amazing with runes. You are never without PENS, BRUSHES, and PARCHMENT to cast spells. You also have TATTOOS on your palms that contain the runes for FIRE MAGIC.
You also apparently have innate PROTECTION MAGIC now but the spirit didn't give you directions on activating them...
We will have to test them sometime.
Wait we? I mean I.
Percival, did you forget I am here with you?
I've never been possessed before how does this work?
It appears our minds are conjoined for the moment - I will direct you.
Alright, what is your unfinished business?
Who said I had unfinished business?
That's why you're still here right? You've got to finish something before you can pass on.
Shrug.
What do you need me for then?
I don't know this seemed like a good idea at the time. Pick up my things

You pick up his things. Damn he's persuasive.
Picked up BAG and SWORD.

What happened to the crypt keeper? You might consider getting lost before he comes to. Also, don't forget we put a piece of our corpse in his pocket. Better keep ahold of that.

So anyway, where can we go now? Maybe we should ask the crypt keeper some questions about who we were in our past life. How did we die, for instance?
