You can feel the pain this being is going through to produce such incredible lack of thought. It's almost as if they have ceased to exist. There's only one thing in the sea of inky, milky darkness. A sight of distant lights, like stars, and far-off laughter.

hang on, we'll have zang and farah deal with him, he will have to break character to fight them which would probably cause all sorts of bad shit to happen to him.

[switch to farah]
okay, this asshole is all for the defense of fair maidens, therefor he hopefully cannot hurt you without breaking character, and from the looks of it, character is all he has, zang will back you up.

[switch to zang]
okay this ponce can't hurt women without breaking character, which may do bad things to him as that is the only thing he seems to have going for him.

"No. I'm not going to die or kill you over a bad breakup." I say, holding up a hand. "How the hell did you find me anyway?"

"Oh, I just happened to find the right cave. Guess I'm just lucky like that."

Ffffffuck I hate this guy so much! "Besides, I don't want to kill you, you're worth so much more alive! And seeing you get punished for your crimes would warm my heart. So are you going to come quietly, or do I have to give you a nasty concussion?"

...Laugh. Just laugh at him for a bit. "Her father wants me dead, and she still loves me. Which did you talk actually to? Either of them? I know there is some deception afoot because all you're saying is hogwash!"

If he talked to her, maybe you can convince him she wanted you for a different purpose, and will be satisfied with taking a message back to her. If her dad, convincing him her heart is unbroken should suffice. If both... I dunno man, someone is compromised.

But he's far too dense for any of that to likely work anyways. Be ready to flee, post banter.

"Goddamnit Mordecai I said I was done with your bullshit!" the spade swings around, then stops in front of me. "But you have a point. I spoke with her father, but something was off, the whole time. Something isn't right here."

The others mill about, then Farah speaks up.
"We have some things that need tending. I'll contact you when we need you again."

And then they leave.

"Now, Mordecai, it's just us. I hope a bard like you is ready... to face the music."

We move out, walking through the countryside. The monkey returned to me, sitting on my shoulder. The town and the mountain are both out of sight, obscured by trees.

I feel something... a sort of weight to the world, as if it were a cloth stretched taut and a lead ball bounced in the middle.

Looking down, I see a snake wreathed in strange energies, shades of blue marking its scales, eyes, and even tongue. In an impossible motion, it turns its head towards me while slithering ahead.

"Hello, hello. Don't you talk, we don't want to alert the ponce. Rather, jus' think. I'll hear you loud an' clear, Bard. I have an offer for you. One you might think long-coming. Cor', you've got to prove yourself a little further... Are you interested?"

"So you got friends in there? Lots of new arrivals these days. New arrivals are a big thing, normally it's all some big cycle whatsit. Anyway, I'm a messenger. A relater of words from on high. My name is Go-Steady-Slowly, or just Go. I've been sent to assess you for serving my master, Oosa of the Ninefold Tricks. If you succeed the trial, you will become a Bard in his service... though, you won't be actually serving him much, just working in his favor. Deny me, and I shall go on my way, and let Ready-Set-Run, my brother who works for Farnle, know you are available. And so on, until you have either chosen one, or decided to move forward under your own power.

So.

Want to give it a shot? As soon as you awnser positive, I'll tell you the Trial and it'll start.
"

No. 240488 ID: c59f60

hmmm, hey mordicai, gonna have to tell us what getting Oosa's blessing would do.
>>
No. 240494 ID: 40cb26

>>240467
Yeah, sounds good but either you have to know what it entails or he has to make an offer. On the face of it though Oosa sounds like a good one to champion, trickery and such is right up your alley. And ours too, honestly.

And what about the ponce? Not even sure if we need to ditch him, doing something about the mayor now might be important. It would be nicer to approach the matter on your own terms though.
>>
No. 240499 ID: a594b9

Oosa's blessing will give Mordecai awesome luck, and he'd survive pretty much anything, like the bounty hunter there.

I'd prefer a more song-related ability... but luck can come in handy in other ways too.
>>
No. 240553 ID: 40cb26

>>240499
Maybe he offers other boons. Or a song of luck so we can spread it around, that wouldn't hurt.
>>
No. 240557 ID: c59f60

what about getting a blessing from all five deities? i'm sure a lot have said their mission involves the fate of the world but we know that a malevolent extra dimensional being is currently here. he got here because he came from our own dimension. he SHOULD of been trapped in the Between forever but apparently he learned how to steer. also, we banished him because that was the BEST we could do, he is literally impossible to kill.

even if you don't wholly believe us i felt you should know.
>>
No. 240625 ID: e31d52

>>Okay, so, you know how every song is tied to a deity, and each deity has an Aura you can invoke without a specific song that does special things? Having a patron Song God boosts one of these and offers a few other distinct boons.

>>Fist of all, Oosa's songs will be enhanced, meaning that his Aura (which increases skills, defense, and luck) will become much more powerful.

>>Secondly, Mordecai himself will have much more luck, allowing him to dodge attacks and get bonus STUFF he wouldn't normally be able to get.

>(this is how Ace actually found you.)

>> And lastly, you'll be able to pray to Oosa for advice, for what good that will do you. He doesn't exactly offer the best.

>>Keep in mind that beyond the Aura and Song boosts, each Song God offers different boons! But don't worry, Bards aren't the only ones who can become devotees. ;)

>>

>>240625
I think Oosas boons are just fine, it fits your skills and is never not to your advantage to have. It helps you not die and to accomplish what you mean to do.

The only real question is, does it feel right to you? Oosa isn't the most serious of gods, but by the same token he won't hold you to as much. But if Oosas nature is in conflict with your own I think the test would show this by means of failure.

There's also the matter of Ace, he can't really be giving you the best impression of being dedicated to Oosa. But hey even his own servant calls him a ponce. And think how great it would be to throw his own gods favor right back in his face.

>>241932
We shouldn't this decide over a specific song or technique. Though Farnle is probably great for kicking ass in general. He'd be my second choice, as it stands.

>A chance to throw Oosa's favor in Ace's face

It also goes well with what I'm good at, namely, skill and luck in equal measure.

"Name your challenge."

"Easy. I'll be waiting in the mayor's manor, in Sarah's room. Get there before Ace sees either her or the Mayor, and you receive Oosa's blessing."

And then he's gone, a glimmering image of his smile and eye lingering breifly before he vanishes.

First thing you got to do is stop Ace, imprison him somehow. I bet you get extra points if you can frame him and get him locked up in the city jail. That'll give you plenty of time to get to the manor. Or maybe you could misdirect him? What of the ninefold tricks could you use?

No. 242258 ID: 40cb26

First thing is pretty basic, distract Ace so you can flee. The trick is to let him think you are running away from town, so when he starts after you it's in the wrong direction. Between his tracking skills and his boon that advantage won't last long, but it is still an advantage.

Is your horrid little monkey thing back? Having it jump on Aces face sounds like good fun. Otherwise you can keep an eye out for a corpse in the woods you can make a quick annoyance out of. That's unlikely but if the chance comes up take it.

You still have the ring of the ram I assume? If it has enough of a charge you can go ahead and let her rip, otherwise you should have enough built up by the time you finish running to town to knock him away if you need. If you don't use it at all you might build up a dangerous amount of energy by the time you get there.

No. 243625 ID: fd6d7e

A good way to foul up foes with supernaturally good luck is to put them between a rock and a hard place. Not only is it possible their luck will fizzle and backlash, but even the luckiest situation isn't so good for them. An example would be to lead this guy to the edge of a cliff, but then stand so that if he tries to dodge the edge he'll run into your blade. If he's lucky he'll run off the cliff... and that's not very lucky at all.

Of course falling off a cliff probably won't kill him by way of sheer luck, but you get the idea.
>>
No. 243744 ID: 24a9bd

Just keep running. He might be lucky, but that doesn't make you unlucky, and luck can't make up for simple lack of ability. Hum a little song of haste, and run like the wind!
>>
No. 243754 ID: 40cb26
