We can sit in your stomach awhile longer. It's probably best if we stay there indefinitely.

Speaking of indefinitely, about how many months worth of hair growth is that? We went out when you did, so we have to guess how long it's been.
Looks to be, what, a year or two?
That's a safe minimum guess, since there are a lot of factors at play here.

Check to see if the plant is real.
If it's real, then you're in a facility that has suffered traumatic damage and you can tell how long based on the state of the plant.
If it's fake, you're in a cold storage room.

Either way, you probably feel horrible due to hypothermia. Our first order of business is getting you some proper clothes, or at least warmer rags.
After that we need to find out where we are, and find Burns.

Oh, and we saw the attack. You didn't mess up.

The... coffins, like the one I was in are all empty.

There are several others boxes here. They look like the ones we had on the SPT. They're labeled as food, which I don't need.

>Wonder how long you've been 'dead' for. Could you guess based on how much your hair has grown?

I have no idea. It's grown more in places than I'd expect. It's like it's been cut, before. And not by me.

>We can sit in your stomach awhile longer.

A long time ago I had a device installed inside of me that keeps things from being digested. Primarily so that I never have to feel hunger, again, although for rare situations like this, as well. The fact that it's still there must mean my entire body wasn't obliterated in the attack. So, it probably hasn't been centuries, or anything, since I've been able to regenerate.

>Check to see if the plant is real.

It's real. But obviously died of frost. I guess it was here before the room was turned into a cold storage. Maybe it was done in a hurry?

>Our first order of business is getting you some proper clothes, or at least warmer rags.

It's very cold. But nothing I can't handle.

>Go mess with that console. See if it can't give the current date.

I'm not even sure what kind of calendar they use on this world.

You know they said some people escaped from the freighter. And Tannon had planned to go to a very cold place. He might have picked up both of you once you got dumped from the TAV and then gone to the place he wanted to get to.

>Look outside of the large port, And see how much of a drop there is into that tunnel, if any.

It's pretty steep. About a couple hundred feet down. It would be dangerous, even for me. The tunnel looks manmade... or unnatural, at least. It goes on, for forever.

>Also, look out into the tunnel, to the right near the top. See the door? There was a person on that ledge earlier when you broke out. They know you're awake, who or whatever they are.

...

Maybe. But I can barely see the door. I doubt they could see me, especially in this dark. If there was really someone there, at all.

>What's that thing on the ledge up there above the coffins? Or is that some kind of lamp?

It's the door, way off down into the tunnel. There's a platform extending from it. I can barely make it out.

There's a window between the room and the tunnel. This room may have been some sort of observation platform, at some point.

>Tannon might have picked up both of you once you got dumped from the TAV and then gone to the place he wanted to get to.

I hope so.

It looks like this was a monitor room. This was an observation station. Monitors are strewn across the floor, broken. Shelves where they had sat have been stripped off the walls, to make room for... this.

Still no sign of Burns.

Whoever barricaded the door had to have left somehow. If the vent covering was already off when you came in, then they/it went through the vent. Is that grating behind you on the floor the vent cover, or ... a grate in the floor?

>Ah, follow the blood trail of course.
>the vent

The blood trail leads under the pile of junk, out the door. I could easily move the stuff barricading the door, and exit that way.

I could also just head back into the vent.

If whoever did this left the room, he probably used the vent.

>Was the vent intact when you entered this room?

You mean when I encountered it, in the crawlspace? It was, but I can't tell if it was screwed in, or not. I just kicked it in.

...Why was this transistor sitting in the pile of tissue...?
>>
No. 162032 ID: 7524b0

I think... the dude got freaked out, came in here and barricaded the door. Then something came through the vent and killed him while he was working on the barricade. Then dragged him over and did stuff to his body. After that, they left through the vent, pulling the cover back on behind them.

The transistor... Well, maybe whoever did the ritual thought it held some special meaning, pertaining to whatever this shit means?

The guy who died thought that the area outside this room was dangerous. Yet, he still got killed by whatever came through and exited via the vent.

If we encounter a hostile entity in the vent, we'll be in a difficult position to fight back.

On the other hand, if we go out into the open, we could get surrounded.

Let's go through the vent and continue. You can't get surrounded in there, and there's still enough room to PUNCH things. Plus, it might lead somewhere that we couldn't normally get to.

I can't be the only one thinking this looks a lot like Ruby's secret corpse. Something tells me they were planning to use you for a set-up similar to that. If they did, well, amortality and all that. Does that symbol behind it remind you of something?

I would suggest checking out what's on the other side of the barricade. If the one who built the barricade is the same one who did that fine mutilation then whoever he or she wanted to stay away from might be people you would benefit from meeting.

Might be a pain in the ass to get back in that vent if she drops down though. But yeah, "odd" seems like the appropriate statement. Hard to tell if the blood prints are fresh or not given how dark this whole place is. Doesn't detract from how unsettling this situation continues to be. If there are any other paths to take in the vent do so before dropping down. You can probably come back to this spot after poking around a bit more, but if you can't get back up your options are gonna be lessened.

I forgot to ask before but how old do you think that mutilated body was, Kitty? Even an estimate might give us a good idea as to whether or not this facility's state was caused by something recent or dated.

Either way there are a couple of things we do know. Someone was tending to you while you were recovering (you mentioned the cut hair and all). Someone or something was watching you from that ledge in the distance after you woke up. And this whole deal is fucked up.

>Maybe there's something under the mattress too.

There is. It's another letter, although this one looks more official, like an office document.

It's addressed "From the Office of Relakim Sim, Internal Affairs, Chair."

Mary,

First, let me thank you for the excellent work you've been doing. When we first drew your name as a candidate for this position, we knew then we had the right woman for the job. For the past five years, you've been nothing short of exemplary in dealing with the rest of the staff.

It is with this in mind that I must send you my concerns over the growing tension I am seeing amongst the staff, especially those in the lower blocks. Lately, I have been getting reports of fights breaking out over the storage of the so-called "Lean Man" that was brought in two months ago.

I was going to write this off as a combination of cabin fever and anxiety, as I've been cooped up in this facility for longer than anyone, and I've seen the body, myself. While we have a great deal to learn from it, it is unsettling, I'll admit.

What has necessitated this letter was an incident that occurred this morning between Solomon Spade, our head of security, and Doctor T. Redding, whom I believe you already know. The two apparently escalated into a fist fight, encouraged by the rest of the staff, which then escalated further into an outright brawl between two groups. This occurred over an argument over whether one or the other was really who they said they were. Or, this is what I am told. Of course, I can vouch for both of these men. They have been my friends for longer than my colleagues, and I cannot imagine them coming to blows, much less thinking one or the other was an impostor of any kind. I am going to look into this personally.

However, it should go without saying that as the head of our Personnel Care division, the emotional and mental well-being of all of our staff should be your top concern. I'm afraid that something has gone wrong with the way this facility handles its interoffice communication, as what was once a few heated exchanges has somehow steamrolled into something that may be beyond our control.

This has been isolated to the lower blocks for now, so I am going to seal all decks from level 5 down. We'll convert the tunnel decks to hold the more vital projects.

I would like you to take a crew into the lower blocks with a security detail and try to reason with the crew. I most assuredly do not believe they are so far gone as to not understand that a line has been crossed. As a personal note, I will add that a good number of these people have been my friends for a very long time. You are one of my newest. I trust them, and cannot believe this has happened to them. Please, ensure their safety.

~Sims

Would be nice to get a better description of this Lean Man. Try to find some records, either on paper or digital and search for it.

But I don't think you're going to find them in this room. See if there is anything useful behind the frame and then get going. That door shouldn't pose much of a challenge to you.

I'm not sure what most of you are talking about, but it sounds like you're projecting some previous experience on what's going on now. I can't rely on speculation, or superstition. I've got a commitment to honor. I'll interpret things as they happen.

I push away the door, and it flips into a glowing hallway. It would be absolute darkness here, if not for a raging fire somewhere at the end of the hall. It seems to be limited to the room it's in.

There are four other rooms down the hall. Probably bedrooms.

There's a door at the opposite end of the hall. I think it leads back to the direction of the room I woke up in, past the security room.

Where do I go in this place? After whatever happened, it's gone to hell.

You're currently in the residential section.
The rooms around you are probably going to contain personal effects and the like.

At this point you have plenty of options, but here are the three best ones as far as I can tell:
Option 1: You could search them for weapons, equipment, information, and hiding survivors.

Option 2: You could check out the fire to see if you can douse it, if it blocks your path to another area, if the oxygen it's burning through is limited, and if there's anything interesting on fire.

Option 3: You can head in the direction of the room you started in, since there's a good chance they were storing Burns in the same area.

You could also try going back into the vent and tearing down the barricade, going into the other section of vent to explore, or aimlessly exploring the facility. I don't think these would be great ways to spend your time, though.

Blood does some interesting things, when you rip someone apart. Really, there's no telling.

I'll take things slow, for now. I'm not going to dive into that fire. I can backtrack later. Might as well check out these rooms.

I enter the next door down the hall. The room is surprisingly intact, compared to everywhere else I've been...

He didn't even seem interested in Kitty--he went straight for the survivor. That might change now that you punched him through a wall though.

Don't call out for the survivor yet. Last thing you need is some other musclebound horror punching through walls after you. Being cautious is a good way to proceed. So avoid calling out to the guy I saved so that I won't make any noise, and search all the lockers by breaking into them, very loudly? Sure, I'll do that.

But seriously, I get the impression whatever is here knows where I am. And I don't want to freak out that kid any more than he already is.

After discovering that every one of the lockers is locked (go figure), and busting them all open, I further discover... nothing.

They've all been cleaned out. Strange. Who locks an empty locker to begin with?

I was hoping there would be something of worth in these things. All I have to work with is this spool of wire and a key, which probably opens something I could break open anyway.

When you find something that's locked, don't bust it open right away. Whatever the key opens must be important in some way for it to have been hidden rather than kept on a keychain.
Check to see if locks look appropriate to the key, then if they do try the key on them.

If that key opened a specific locker, it's possible that the back plate of the locker was a hidden pressure pad despite appearing empty at first glance. If this place is as much like the Glen as it's shaping up to be so far, then that would be by no means the least demented aspect of the building design.

Guys, I am in Security.

I can't see a reason to use the vents, anymore, since I just did that to avoid setting off any alarms.

The lockers are over here, and I'm in Security, so that means I haven't been in the room next door, and I haven't gone past the lockers into the hall adjacent to the one I was already in.

I move on. To the other room. ...At the, uh... the end of the hall.

It's not... something it's not supposed to be, for once. Thank goodness. Some kind of boiler room. I can see what looks like a laundry room on the other end.

>fire
Yes. This is Piaculum. I don't doubt that, now. You can knock them down with enough damage, but to finish them off you need fire, or acids... maybe a strong base. Or a way to introduce heavy metals into their systems? Mercury, maybe.

What I don't understand, is... that thing, I just saw. I don't... I'm sorry, I don't think I can talk about this right now.

I've never seen something like that. Even when Piaculum destroyed... I just... I don't know. I don't.

Ha. I'm getting too old for this.

From the looks of it someone was interupted here in the middle of their laundry. Check it out and see if you find anything interesting.

You know it's probably that Preacher asshole that's behind all of this. Do amortals by any chance dream after they have died and are regenerating? Because Burns had some dreams with the Preacher in them and if he couldn't just wake up from them I'm a bit worried about what might have happened. Oh and another thing, you don't happen to have a handy way to contact Reklaw do you? Some sort of bond between amortal and digen, because getting him here might be a good idea.

All right... I can't seem to find anything that warrants my attention. I rifle through the clothing and find nothing special. Nothing here is working, of course. There's no power.

Water is leaking across the floor and into the grates. There doesn't seem to be any damage here, or any signs of struggle, for once.

As I think of leaving the room, I do notice there is a circuit box on the wall, next to the boilers.

It's an eye, obviously... with its optic nerve still intact.

As I handle it, the nerve splits and reaches out for my fingers. No matter how I twist it, it's like... something is moving it. It won't stop staring at me. It twists in my fingers, constantly watching my own eyes.

I'd just assume torch this whole place, but there seem to be some sort of bizarre rules I'm being made to follow. I suppose I should cooperate, for now.

I pocket the eye.

Once we find Burns and an exit it's going to feel so god damn sweet to see this place burn to the ground.

>start with the big guy in bird mask
"That thing that tried to kill you -

"The warden? Doesn't matter what you ask. I don't know. All I know is that it's been collecting people it finds alive, on the various floors. It showed up a few days after Redding started to poison the food stores. After the bomb on block 4 went off -

"Bomb?"

"Yeah. Someone detonated... something. Shit was hitting the fan. It didn't seem like something that we couldn't fix, till then. I was here, in block 6, when it happened. Lower blocks have been permanently isolated, ever since."

>What is the main purpose of the facility?
"What's this place even for?"

"No idea. Or, I don't know why it was originally built. This place is a few hundred years old. These days, it's one of Sunrisen's classified research divisions. We studied lots of shit, here. I was just part of the surface maintainence crew. Kept the upper structure. If you're wondering about yourself... you washed up on the shoreline, about a hundred klicks from here. We heard about some sort of ship flying around at the time, so we extended our patrols, just in case. One of the teams found you, and brought you here. Not sure why they kept your bodies. No one was."

>Why is Piaculum here?
I'll avoid mentioning the name... it'd just confuse him. I'm not even sure how to ask this.

"I've seen some weird shit since I woke up. Why?"

"The hell should I know? I'm just trying to survive. Visions, people killing one another, fucking giant baby-headed spider-things, shit. Why're you so interested? Wanting to go rejoin your buddies? You one of those fucking things?"

"No! Damn. No, I just want to know what the hell is happening to me."

"Yeah. Well, wouldn't we all? Keep it to yourself."

>What's with the pit? And the tunnel?

"What's with the huge tunnel, outside?"

"You sure love to ask questions. This place was abandoned about a century ago. The people in charge of it then would know. Any evidence of what it was for was destroyed, or lost, or something. Or, so I hear. It was reclaimed a few years ago. I heard they've explored the shaft, but what they found was classified. As usual."

I gesture to the charred corpse on the ground. It's been burning for a while, although it's subsided.

"Relakim Sim, glorious head of Internal Affairs. Big shot. See how that turned out."

"Why did you kill him?"

"Didn't. He poisoned himself, I think. I've been burning any corpses I find. You can't be too sure."

"About what?"

"That's a stupid question. Coming from you. Didn't you come back from the dead?"

"I suppose. Are people coming back to life?"

"I suppose," he parrots. "Can't trust anyone. They're those things. You'll be talking to someone, then the next minute, their head splits open, or eyes start growing all over them. They try to kill you, or infect you. Or whatever it is they do. We killed a few of them, or thought we did. They busted out of the morgue a few days later."

"And Tannon?"

"Caught in that fire in Lab 5/6. You saw it. We were bottled up, trying to seal ourselves off when that warden attacked us. Some of the guys started to turn, too. One of the gas chambers lit up, and that was the end of that."

"Fine."

"I've got questions of my own. Like what the hell you are. And why you can resurrect yourself. I've got an idea you brought this here. Or that you're related, somehow. You're too similar to these things for that to be a coincidence."

Great. How can I avoid this...

"I've seen what you can do. I guess you could have killed me, easy enough. Maybe you're like them, though. Maybe you're afraid of the flame. Either way, you might not be out to kill me. Yet. But you'll forgive my distrust. Trust is a commodity, these days."

Just say your immortal but can get hurt and into a coma state with enough damage. Don't tell him you're an amortal, even though it is pretty much that. Just don't give him the actual word for it. Assure him that you're not out to kill him. As for the resurecting thing, tell him you're an amortal and you will explain that closer when you're not trapped in a hellish facility with things out to kill you.

"I think they might be after me. They're leaving... notes. But I don't have anything to do with them. I just woke up and everything was like this."

Oh... hey, amortals can recover from anything right? Supposing an amortal were reduced to a fine bloody mist and then inhaled by a number of people. Would that possibly cause... this?

Well, you gave me an idea, at least... I'll have to mix some lies with the truth, to avoid any difficult questions.

"You seem to know more about it than I do. Maybe I should be the one who's suspicious."

He laughs. "You should. We all should. No one is who they once were, anymore. No one."

"If I was in league with those things, I wouldn't have saved your ass."

"Maybe. But that doesn't explain -

"I don't know why I woke up, when I should be dead." That's true enough, I suppose... in many ways. "All I know, is that I was on the ocean, and something attacked us. Now I'm here. That's all."

He seems skeptical.

"But the bottom line is that I don't trust you. But it looks like I'm the only thing standing between you and being warden-chow, in the future. I want out of this place, and I want to find my friend, if he's alive."

"Yes. I'd like out of here, as well."

"I think that's good enough of a reason to work together, for now. I need a guide through this hellhole, and you need someone who can stand up to those things."

"...True."

"Whatever. We need to get out of here. Where're the exits?"

"Below is infested with those things. I thought this block was safe, until recently. We need to move up, to the surface."

"Fine. Lead the way."

"No. No, you go first. Unless you want to end up like our friend here." He smiles like a madman, again, and addresses the scorched body.

He's mad. But useful. For now.

I suppose we can take the stairs up.

This guy's just a squishy madman with a flamethrower. Not much of a threat so long as you keep an eye on him. Hmm. Paranoia usually only takes hold during a change in perceptions. So unless you grow tentacles I don't think he's going to fireball you in the back, at least not until he gets a shot at escape. You can probably trust him that much, but keep a close eye on him in the event you reach a way to perceived safety. That's when he's most likely to panic and try to take you out just in desperation to get away.

Plus you haven't accounted for the fact that people are getting "infected" here, likely by whatever fuels Piaculum's unearthly growth. In the event you get infected, I'm sure you would rather he burn you to a crisp than you be stuck fighting with Piaculum to regenerate your own body. It'd be a lot safer for both of you if he's the one holding the flame thrower in that situation.

Depending on what's going on here, you might have to go down into the depths, as even the surface won't be any escape if Piaculum destroys Nahala.

We never saw his corpse. Kitty thought he was in the burning room, but apparently he wasn't.

Let me give you a better summary of what we experienced with Kitty. We woke up in a box in some makeshift cold storage, crawled through a vent, found some dead bodies... then a giant muscled man with a hooded mask appeared and punched through a wall to grab a survivor. Kitty punched IT through a wall into a very, very deep pit. Then we wandered a bit, found some fleshy abominations, and then discovered the survivor- Blair, who told us that the whole facility's staff were turning into fleshy abominations. Apparently it could happen at any time, and only fire seemed to stave them off. The huge muscled man from before is called the "warden" and was collecting survivors for some unknown purpose. Ahh, but he said that Tannon got caught in the lab 5/6 fire so maybe he was lying at that point. Man, most of our info we got from him!

How did Tannon survive being blasted by the TAV while you were on the boat?

>giant muscled man with a hooded mask
>the warden

Yeah. We know him. It. Whatever he is, now. That used to be Solomon. We think. He was the head of security. What happened to him is anybody's guess.

>Blair
So that's where he went to. I don't know what story he told you, but he's the one that turned on us. Cost us most of the people we had left. He set off one of the gas chambers. If he told you Tannon was dead... I'm not sure if he believed it, or not. I'm not even sure if he was one of them, at the time. He was already nuts.

>Explain from when the ship was attacked.
We were the unlucky ones, amazingly enough. Tannon and some other survivors made it to shore. Apparently he knew the guy in charge here. Sims, I think?

Makes sense. If you remember, Tannon told us this was our next stop. We had a few fun conversations about that... but I'm getting ahead of myself.

A couple months before I woke up, the Empire's boys brought in this thing they called the Lean Man. It came out of the TGC. The Coalition ended up moving on to the other nations on my continent. The Empire had humanitarian missions going on in the region. Or, that was their diplomatic answer to what they were... nevermind, I'll just confuse you.

Bottom line, the Empire brought this thing back with them. People started getting into fights over it, forming factions and accusing one another of being imposters, and the like.

I woke up a couple weeks ago. Apparently, Kitty had done the same, earlier, although they had to put her down. So, they were ready for me. I spent the next week in a cell.

Long story short, these things started coming out of people, trying to imitate us. Tannon got me out. I can't really give much of an explanation beyond that. We've been running, this entire time.

Now, we're on Block 2. Honestly, we're in the thick of it. Piaculum are all over. They tried to get in a couple times. Felson and Heyit. We let Felson in, until we found him impersonating Missy. We had to kill both of them. Heyit, we just burned alive. I don't know if he was human.

We found Kitty hanging off an exposed girder in the main shaft a few hours ago. I'm not sure how long she was down there.

Now, there's just the five of us. Mary, Redding, me, Kitty and Tannon. Either one of those two could be one of them. I'm almost sure of it. But there's no way to test for it. That's what Tannon said.

Kitty said it's not Piaculum. Right before she dove into the main shaft to keep from being caught by a giant fleshbeast. Her mind was... affected somehow. Something about her identity being subverted.

If Blair was already one of them, then... the warden isn't allied with them. I hope the big guy isn't actually dead, in that case.

Ohhh, the Lean Man eh? I almost forgot we found some papers about that kind of thing. Written by Sims. We actually got a lot of the information you just gave us from that... but forgot. Do you know where the body is? If my intuition is correct, the staff here have been experimenting with it.

...ever considered that the Tannon with you could be the impostor? The "Blair" we met could have been telling the truth about him dying in the fire, despite being an impostor as well. I think they steal the memories of those they mimic. This probably means that they can mimic Kitty now.

>we have seen the lean man before
Well, it did bust out of the cold locker.
>the slender man
So... you saw it and then gave it a new name, or...? Or did you see it before now, or what?

You're starting to confuse me, voices. And I'm the one who's actually been awake for all of this.

>ever considered that the Tannon with you could be the impostor?
I honestly have no idea. But he was the one that got me out, and we've been together ever since. Sometimes alone. If he had wanted to take me over, he would have. We've all been paranoid of one another. No one trusts anyone, anymore. I have to believe I can trust him.

Tannon has actually become the most hated person here, due to how he's always acted. My association with him has caused some problems, too.

Redding and Mary basically only hang around one another, now. Sim was chased off a week ago, before the incident with Blair, for being so chummy with Tannon.

>I think they steal the memories of those they mimic.
Why?
>probably means that they can mimic Kitty now.
...Why?

>You better be pretty sure
Well, judging from how she described them to me, this is them. From the sound of things, there may be another force at work here, though. Can't say I understand things like that, though.

Only Kitty did. And apparently, I can't rely on you voices for information. Just baseless speculation.
>>

>>201457
Hard information has been kind of hard to find here. Right now the best we can do is speculate. Kitty should have some stuff in her clothes that might give someone some insight, she also found a weird occult symbol thingy with a torso nailed to the middle of it. And some references to what she saw when she was in the engine of that ship. Which would imply that either this thing was there and saw it or it's a mind reader.

Both of those are some rather nasty options. Because either you have something that can't just survive the engine but actually live there or something that can read your mind. And from what I have heard of the piaculum they're not mindreaders, they probably could survive in that engine though. So lets hope for the mindreader option.

If you don't have anything else to do you should probably check up on Mary and Redding, don't want them to do anything crazy now if they figure they have been outnumbered now that Kitty has showed up.

Christ, don't associate all voices with idiocy. There's a bunch of us in here. About a village's worth. Thing is we got a bunch of village idiots. It seems we have a... plague

But no seriously, if you want to establish trust, get blood of everybody and apply intense heat to it. These creatures HATE fire and we could check to see if another thing from another world that we know of, or at least something similar, crept into yours.
>>

probably the only thing left to do, is tell the truth. fess up that you kitty and maybe tannon could be immune due to not exactly being human. they may freak out but there is little they could do, and once they start asking why you aren't turning into a monster you can inform them that a different being, something stronger, already changed you, so the lean man holds no power over your body.

oh and we have seen him before all this, didn't know he could dimension hop.

They need to be able to steal memories if they're going to act like the one they're imitating. It's difficult to impersonate someone for long without at least a basic knowledge of how they act.

As far as imitating Kitty is concerned... I was just saying that to warn you ahead of time in case she shows up out of nowhere before she's supposed to be alive again. I bet they can't imitate her amortal qualities though, so you could just test it like that. Ask her to bend something, maybe. That gives me an idea. If you ever get suspicious of Tannon, you could ask him to do something related to his special qualities.

Y'know if these things really are piaculum then perhaps Kitty was just referring to the thing that was invading her mind? Meh.

Alright, let me grab some more information for you. Kitty found some sort of... main manifestation of some kind of horrible fleshbeast, and this is what it said:
The self is by its own will and shall destroy that which denies it.

I know you, Cynthia.
Cynthia, who was denied and destroyed that that denied her, in whom I am well-pleased.

You serve yourself well. You serve me.

Oh yeah, she picked up a few things... Did Kitty have anything in her pockets? An electrical component, and an eye with the optic nerve still attached?
>>
No. 201483 ID: 701a19

>>201457
Fact: Kitty said "It's not Piaculum". While there almost certainly IS Piaculum here, there's probably something else at work as well.

Fact: WE have encountered a few of these entities before, albeit not these specific manifestations of them.

Fact: Whatever is going on here is either taking over people's bodies and minds and mutating them, or is mimicking their bodies and minds. There are no other viable explanations as to how they could impersonate others well enough to fool their compatriots.

Speculation: Tannon may have been compromised.

Fact: Kitty is the only one whose identity is established unquestionably. To be perfectly frank? Until we know that we can tell the difference that includes you.

Speculation: If it takes over bodies, then Kitty's amortal status likely protects her from it.

Fact: If you find a second Kitty wandering around then it is obviously a duplicate, and shows that it is duplicating people.

Now:
Ask somebody to hold on to us for a minute, go do something, then ask for us back.
We will remain silent and monitor the person's thoughts. If we find out anything then we'll let you know when you retrieve us.

Also, by the end of this, Redding will commit suicide by explosive if he isn't infected, and if he is his smile will go really wide before tendrils start popping loose from his mouth. In fact, you may not have to do my blood test theory if you get Redding to laugh, though the blood test will likely be more accurate. Solomon Spade, the warden, if he is actually against all of those who are infected or similarly gathering them like Ace was, probably detected something about Redding that wasn't right before he became the warden. That or Redding caught him slowly becoming the Warden before Solomon turned. Hrrmm, nevermind.

Mary is... well I don't recall any Marys or similar named beings the last time crazy mutants and a pointy mask showed up. Ask what her last name is. But that's funny Mary helped Redding kick Sims out, the letter earlier made it seem that Sims respected Mary very much. Here, lemme try and see if I can recite information we've gained through a point of veiw or not. If you don't acquire this information, me or one of the other voices can relay it using traditional means of talking it out.

No one is allowed out of view of anyone else, anymore. We're all barricaded inside Block 2's storage chambers, together. We're always in reach of the flamethrowers they use here to melt the ice when they're mining. They're our only real weapons.

>get blood of everybody and apply intense heat to it
I'm not sure why you think that will work, but I guess I can ask Tannon about it.

"Hey."

"What."

"I was thinking. Bullets don't slow these things down much. They can tear themselves apart, and even that doesn't kill them. Only fire seems to really -

"Your point."

"Do you think testing tissue samples from everyone with heat would -

"You have watched me run tests on Lean Man tissue for the past week. I have exposed it to acids, strong bases and heat, and not once has there been an abnormal reaction."

"Oh... right."

"Your animal mind is succumbing to emotion. Control your lower impulses."

So... no.

I guess we can all just sit here speculating, all day.

I guess you got here just in time, though. We were about to make a push for Block 1.

I apologize, I just thought maybe something else from another world we have knowledge of could work on something similar to it. I'll stay away from applying other world knowledge to this one. Trying to help though. It's all I really want to do. :(

Alright, Block 1 is where in relation to the exit? Or have you established another goal beyond getting out?

How fresh was the tissue? I think I know what this is. If that tissue wasnt fresh, then it wouldnt react. If it was fresh it should have reacted, violently.

>Block 1 is where in relation to the exit?

As far as it can be. Block 1 is the bottom floor. Here, I'll show you.

This is the main shaft. It's where we found Kitty. I spotted her hanging off a girder, from this reinforced window. It took a while to get to her. Had to unfasten this window and climb across the wall. Wasn't fun. We didn't find any eye, or transistor on her, if she had something like that.

We're in block 2, about a kilometer below the surface. Block 1 is right under us. That's where they took the sample they brought back from the Confederacy.

Due to the damage the whole complex has taken, the upper levels have been sealed off. No one can get past block 50, thankfully. That means we're sealed up inside, along with the Piaculum. And whatever else is here.

Every nine hours, there's a five minute surge that knocks out all the locks, from block 10, down to block 1. All the barricades become unlocked. We're going to make a run from here, down to block 1, the next time that happens.

This main shaft runs through the entire complex, from top to bottom. It's the only way to the top, and to the outside. I've been keeping watch, and making sure none of those things have been trying to climb up. So far, nothing.

It's strange. It's like it's more interested in what's here, than trying to escape. And we can't allow it to leave. Imagine if Piaculum was freed, into the rest of the world.

Once we get down to block 1, we can raise the main platform all the way up to block 100. Otherwise, everyone would have to climb up the walls, which I don't think even I could do.

So, that's the plan. We leave in a couple of hours.

If you have something you want to do or ask, you need to bring it up, now.

Wait... Lean man, may I hazard a guess as to it's origional description? Tall dark suited, vaguely Caucasian features, exceedingly flexible and shows limb morphability in the ability to spontaneously add or subtract strange 'branch-like' limbs from his torso or 'natural limbs.'

Seem to have a fascination or dazed reaction to bright lights? Leads formerly frantic victims away in a kind of calm stupor upon taking their hand after which they are never seen again (at least not as a whole?)

If any of this seems to match then we know this entity (or entities) as 'The Slender Man'. Most of our knowledge about him is as a kind of fairy tale (he fits well in the category of malignant fae) or story told to scare children from walking away with strangers.

We don't really know how to beat him, but it seems to avoid direct observation by crowds (even surveillance equipment) almost instinctively. Never heard of any morphological imitative (doppelganger) properties however, that's a new one.

Ask for Mary's full name. If Tannon has written any of his research down, now would be a good time to ask Tannon if you can look over it so we could avoid asking him a bunch of question that would likely strain both you and Tannon's patiences.

Double check the reserves and conditions of the flamethrowers, just in case these monsters are sentient and capable of tampering with these things in the case of Mary or Redding being an impostor. Then I suggest you all pray to your makers or luck gods. Kiss a lucky charm too.

One more thing, is it possible that documents could be in the room your in or have you checked around already?

>The Slender Man
That sounds nothing like what I'm talking about.

They called it "lean man" because it vaguely looked like a person, but emaciated, with arms, legs... everything, even its head, way too long and thin for the rest of it.

I suppose I didn't tell you the rest of the story about that. It was confiscated from a team exiting the same artifactum I found you in.

>Mary's full name
Her last name is Smith.

>If Tannon has written any of his research down
>documents could be in the room

Some of his bullshit is here. It's the only thing here. I call it bullshit because it's obvious the only real conclusions he's making, he's keeping in that Acruen brain of his. The notes are a show for Redding and Mary.

They see the three of us as freaks, since they're aware Tannon has some working relationship with Kitty and me.

If there's nothing else, I'm going to check on our equipment, and take a nap before the surge hits.

I'm going to make a small joke here and say... Mushio?

Anyway, I can see why Tannon didn't like it when you asked that question. It compromises his bullshit if Mary and Redding are paying attention to it. It could have been a sly remark to shut the fuck up before you anger the two much more irrational people here because you exposed information he didn't put down.

Alright, I'm not entirely sure what else to ask. If you've double-checked the flamethrowers, I think we're good to go and burn some fuckers. Lock and Load and similar condemnations of doom towards our opposition. Well, when everything goes and unlocks that it. Just get Mary and Redding between you and Tannon so the Blair incident doesn't happen again and we get surrounded by those goddamn things like we did with Kitty.

Lovely, just fucken lovely. I love military intelligence, because storing 'inert' heinous monstrosities anywhere near artifacts of untold power from the same site is ever a 'good idea.'

Hell, who even thinks meddling in this kind of shit is a good idea in the first damn place? I mean what could they have wanted to study it for aside from "oh hey, let's lock it in a room with some livestock and see how fast they disappear?"

Wait wait wait. You are going up the central shaft? The one Kitty fell down? The one Kitty threw the Warden down? Which means the Warden is going to be at the bottom of that shaft. Alive or dead I don't know.

Kitty beat the shit out of that fucker, caught it off guard. Wailed on his chest with everything she had. Said it was like punching steel. Bashed him through a wall into a very deep shaft. After she was brain attacked by whatever the fuck she had the options of fighting it, running into fire, or jumping down the pit. She lost it and jumped down the shaft.

Fuck, you can't let them all know that the Warden is down there. They'd know something strange was going on.

Shit. Tannon. Fuck, he's not trustworthy. Fuck.

Ok, here's the plan. You know the Warden is down there. Nobody else does. Hope for the best.

He's likely not our ally, he'd be collecting them for further corruption or something. Like Ace. He's an Captain Ersatz, I doubt the guy is any less evil than Ace was.

Vvvvoices! Mixmatching things we know with this situation will get us nowhere, and does nothing for our relationships here! Since we'll be scampering down to a likely scary place with these folks, Burns, might you kindly please tell us what Mary and Redding are like? Your opinion on them? We've heard of Mary before. She seems to have been the head of the 'Personnel Care division,' and looked into how others in this place were doing emotionally and mentally. You might have found that out, but I thought you might want to hear just in case. And at the start of all this, Redding and Solomon apparently got into a fight. As if Mr. Red wasn't suspicious enough.

Hmm, Kitty found a personal letter addressed to Mary before. If the doppelgangers DON'T know all the memories of a person they're impersonating... we might be able to use this inside info to figure that out.

On the other hand, if she DOES know all her memories... and has perfect recall... we could ask something that a normal person would have a hard time remembering. I assume Tannon is able to tell when someone is lying just from looking at them... Hmm, I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not. What do you think, Burns?
>>

Something else.

When you extracted us, Kitty's psyche was kind of left in a precarious state. We're still not sure whether we're seeing things that she hasn't encountered yet, if she's in some sort of dream state, or whatnot. But I think you should try to put us back with her once you've gotten what you need from us. I mean, we know she's going to be physically fine, but, amortal or not, her mind might be vulnerable.

Assuming she's dreaming. Or seeing the future. Hell, I'm not really sure what we're seeing either.
