You are Naoko takahishi, a 34 year old paramedic and your currently sitting in your office doing.. absolutely nothing.

It seems the internal servers are down and all you can do right now is play a bootleg version of solitaire while you wait for someone to fix something somewhere..

yep.

Your really living the dream...

Dear god if something doesn't happen soon your going to put your fist through this laptop or someone's face, possibly your own..

> Hospital servers are down, no one can do their job.
Holy crap, that sounds like a major crisis! I'm surprised you aren't being put on damage control, honestly.

As a resident member of the local emergency services, you need to be ready to go the moment those servers come back online and calls start coming through. What are you doing sitting behind your desk in your street clothes?

>bootleg solitaire
What sorta bootleg version is this? Those cards seem a bit unusual even for a mod. Did you install it yourself or did it come with the work computer?

>punch something
Nnnnah, punching something would only hurt your fist. As much as a break in monotony that needless gratuitous violence would bring, it's hardly worth a bruised knuckle. At least you'd have to find a worthy target to punch that's not yourself!

Hm. Maybe you could head out for an early lunch break? Or are you supposed to sit tight in case of emergency?

Tarot solitaire huh?
Is that card on the left... The World? That's the only card that should have something in the four corners. It just looks like a sea of flames though.
Next is The Devil and The Tower. The Devil is symbolic of self-imposed imprisonment or addiction. The Tower is symbolic of a sudden catastrophe. So, if this is one of those past-present-future fortunes, then life was good, but now it's not so good(the Devil might just be referring to the boring job though), and something bad is going to happen soon.

Look out the window for a bit.

If solitaire's not your speed, you try something new and exciting. Like booting up pinball!

Aside from that, if you're a paramedic, don't you have equipment to maintain? You could do an inventory of the ambulance if you're that bored.

"Fuck it" you day as you stand and stride to the door, desciding that simply sitting here is doing no one any good.

You reach for the handle and stop.

You feel like a kid about to me caught doing something awful or embarrassing..

Take your clothes off before opening the door, it boosts confidence. Why do you think people walk around the privacy of their own homes in the nude? Even if someone's on the other side of the door, they'll largely ignore you being naked because you exude more confidence than them. Like in The Emperor's New Clothes, right?
Just open the door.

If opening the door is bad, then don't. For now. Investigate this whole situation more. It clearly seems a bit... unnatural to suddenly not want to leave the room.

Check the hatstand next to the door. For one... why are there two jackets hanging off of it? Is there anyone else in the office with you? Whose jackets are those? Yours? Do you wear a hat and a tie?

You back away from the door, forcing down the rising panic and anger, a combonation that makes you want to taer your shirt kff and go full beserk.

You dont want a repeat of monday.

You head to the window and look out, trying to figure out where you are.
The view is... unhelpful, its like someone googled 'city' then slammed alk the results together to make the most generic city they could. It looks like everywhere, and as such looks like nowhere.

Moving away from the window you distract yourself by examaning the coat rack only to find even more bizzare details.
The hat is part of the rack and apparently made out of plastic, the tie is a print out on paper and the blue/black thing is what appears to be a deflated bean bag.

The brown item turn out to be YOUR COAT!
Oh thank god you love this coat, it has so many pockets! You slip it on and instantly feel alot more centered.

You take a few breaths and march toward the door, pushing through the rapidly rising panic as you grasp the door lnob and

It just comes off in your hand...
>>
No. 1038288 ID: 9a2966

Think of the positives. You've got a weapon now! Or an interesting fridge magnet.

But if that's not a door, then the window looks more like a... paper? Can you peel it off and see if anything is behind it? Or if it IS a window, peer through? Are there any cracks in the side of the door?

Failing that, check the other sides of the room. Whatever you do, don't freak out over not knowing where you're at. Maybe you fell asleep at your desk and someone's pulling a crazy prank on you.

You pocket the door knob in case you find a use for it later. At the very least its something heavy to twat at someone if the situation calls for it.

Searching through your pockets you discover your WALLET, MONEY and ID CARD, no sign of your keys however, wich makes sense as you doubt a kidnapper would leave you with any form of weapon.

Inspecting the door you find its shut tight, the window bieng nothing more then a pice of laminated plastic seit into the false wood of the door.
Your not sure what its actualy made of but its definatly not wood..

Moving along, you run your hands over the wall in search of hidden switches, panels or secret tunnels (your not dissmising any idea right now, even the scooby doo ones.) And stop at what appears to be a green filing caninet with no drawers, like the door its made of a odd material you cant quite place, but you feel a slight vibration coming from it.

Leaning in you can hear a faint buzzing sound, like absmall machine or particulary fat bee is trapped inside.

Your not entirley sure what to do with that info but the mental image is frankly delightful.

You give the cabinet a experimental tug, its heavy but you feel it shift slightly. You also feel the material itself move under your fingers in a unpleasantly meaty way, leaving imprints of your fingers that slowly fill as you watch.

You briefly consider attaching the door knob to the cabinet and attempting to open it, but decide against it as you are not in the mind set for any loony tunes nonsense if that actually works. While your on the subject of doors, you decide to attempt to jimmy open the door with your id card like they do on tv.

you walk up to the door, slide your card into the slot and stand there awkwardly as you realise you have no idea what to do next.. your glad no one can see this.

returning to the cabinet you brace yourself and pull, slowly dragging the "Metal" across the carpet.

You take a moment to lock all this away in your freak out vault, you can freak out later but right now you need to stay calm.

feeling the "panel" you can feel a assortment of bumps, slots and surfaces that may be screens, making you lean a bit more towards the idea that this thing is a machine.

you decide to inspect the cable for any signs of "life" such as a pulse or veins, you don't want to kill this thing if you can avoid it, but while the cable/tentacle is warm you get the feeling its the warmth of a powerflow rather then a organic process.

giving the cable a slight pull you feel it begin to slide out, puling a little harder results in the entire thing detaching from the cabinet with a noise you just know is going to ruin sex forever..

examining the cable you find that the "Flesh" is a thin layer over a more traditional metal cable, you watch as it slowly folds itself back from the connector and forms into a thick ring.

The noise from the cabinet briefly flares up before quickly fading into science, as it dose so you begin to.. not quite remember, more realise you've been ignoring certain things. the first is that, as a paramedic, you have never had a office.

you move cautiously towards the wall that was, you dont feel any wind or hear any motion, but your not dismissing the idea that its simply a thin force field stopping you from falling out into nothing..

as you approach you begin to see faint reflections, reaching out you feel a smooth, cold surface.
It appears to be simply tinted glass, this is frankly disappointing compared to the scifi nonsense you've seen so far but you'll take it over a plunge into the infinite dark.

you get a little closer to try and peer through the tinting, as you do you OH SHIT!

you dive to one side as two thick tentacles slam into the wall, making it ripple like water with a noise like breaking ice. Rolling into a crouch you find yourself facing a large..THING floating in the middle of the room, a third tentacle emerging from the pale blue flesh of its underside and reaching towards you.

You quickly look over the rest of the room for any way out, but it seems that everything over by the desk was mostly real. The window has converted to a flat screen but that seems about it..

looking back you see that the ..Thing has grabbed the cable and is moving it back towards the cabinet, you don't plan on being here when that thing starts putting out its mind fuck waves again.

In one quick motion you dive forward and hurl the door knob towards the softer looking parts of the Thing, hoping to at least stun it.

Unfortunately the Thing has some crazy reflexes and snaps shut faster then a blink, so your hurled knob bounces harmlessly of the shell raising little more then a pattern of green lights, this still gives you the time needed to sprint past and put the door.

So it still counts as a win.

Sprinting through the door you find yourself standing in a bare, white room with a oddly gritty feeling floor. on your left a large tunnel bisects the room, heading up into the dark and down into a pale blue glow. in front of you is another door closed tight, what seems to be a lever just to its right.

Other then this the room is totally blank.

behind you the Thing re-attaches the cord, giving you another dose of that delightful noise that will ruin sex forever. as it dose you get a feeling, not unlike putting your hand in water and touching wet bread but in your brain, the wrongness of leaving the room is there but far fainter then before.

scurrying over to the shaft you see that its sides are lined with ridges and gaps that form a crude ladder, your glad about this as it implies that the shaft isn't just for floating rock squid things.

clambering down you find the shaft continues for a short way before opening up into a room similar to the one you just left.
Unlike that room there are several odd devices scattered about the floor, distinctly out of place against the gritty white surface.

several of the devices have no obvious function but there are a lot of lamps dotted around blasting out that odd blue light.
you don't feel burning or nausea, so for now you're going to assume it's fine and not worry about potential radiation.

To the left and right you see that the doors seem to have been forced open, pieces of metal having been crudely jammed into the gap to keep them that way. That feels right, like a middle finger to the tech of this place trying to keep you here.

From the left you can feel a faint breeze

to the right you can hear the faint hum of machinery and occasional motion.

(trying out greyscale, i think i prefer to work in monochrome colours rather then constantly changing color due to me forgetting -,- plus i really like how it looks sooooo..)

you stop in your tracks as you notice something, while you can easily see aliens inventing a old style monitor due to convergent tech evolution, you highly doubt they would independently invent the Iphone. Complete with logo.

you stare at this for a moment before a noise behind you makes you spin round in alarm, just in time to catch the floating thing rocketing past you. after a few seconds it shoots back up the shaft then back down several times, while your not expert at interpriting the emotions of faceless rock squid things it seems to be confused.
after several more passes it rockets down the shaft and dose not reappear, hopefully it thinks you have gone deeper down the shaft.
you really need to stop thinking about shaft its getting concerning..

your brought back to reality by more noises from the brightly glowing room, not willing to leave either a unidentified threat or potential ally you sneak over to the door and prepare to poke your head in and see whats what

Cleanup on aisle 3! Someone spilled a jar of "get the hell out of here right goddamn now" all over the floor.

Scramble past it. It doesn't look like it can turn around easily.

Yes, scramble beneath it, unseen. This is clearly a good well-though plan and not a panicked reaction.

Yeah go under it atleast it would have a hard time turning around to face you if you slip to the other side

You stare at the thing for what feels like forever before instinct kicks in and you scurry underneath it, placing you both (hopefully) out of sight and (regrettably) close to what you hope is a mouth but know deep down is a particularly toothy butthole..

looking around you see a plain white room that has been filled with various items and devices, several panels have been pulled of the wall revealing the internal mechanics/organics that seem to run the place. There also seem to be several openings into what may be a vent system, but knowing this place they probably lead to a stomach or something equally gross.

you can see a box or crate full of cans and boxes, a pile of what looks like blankets and what you could swear is a PC set up..

Duck into the crawlspace next to the small pile of cans and boxes, so you can check them out from a hiding place.

Huh. It was a good plan. But... that head shape. This alien's sight might be omnidirectional! Being beneath it could be the only blind spot! If you scramble for something - like a vent - you'll have to move fast. Or you'll have to stay beneath its butt and, er, observe and wait for an opportunity. Gah, what a choice.

Although you could possibly repeat your trick by being close to the wall on the other side. If it moves fully through the doorway, its line of sight will end up getting blocked, so you can pick a side and stick to it. Just don't reveal yourself through the open doorway unless/until it leaves the elevator room as well.

Though, this being seems like it might be what sabotaged the lift and it appears to have been very cleverly cobbling together an effective mish-mash of different worlds' technologies. It must've scavenged all of this from somewhere - there's like what might be food cans, bedding, things that are being used to provide power and light.

Maybe it's a trying-to-escape abductee just like you and you could try to communicate? That'd be wild.

... I'd still try to be close to a vent if you did, though. So you have somewhere to go in case it approaches you without some form of peaceful communication being established. At least it has fingers so you can both try the most basic language of all - gesturing wildly!

it kind of looks like this thing has eyes on in the back of it's head... and on the sides of it's head... and in the front of it's head... ah crap.

well the good news is there are 3 crawlspaces you can jump into that look much to small for whatever this is to follow you but you'll either have to make a dash for one and hope it can't catch you before you reach on, or stay under this guy until it either wonders close to one or you see an opportunity to get away from it without enter it's line of sight... and if hope it doesn't sit down on you while you wait for a chance to escape.

The crawlspace by the cans seems like the best bet.

It hasn't noticed you yet? Lucky... Duck into one of those vents. If your room is any indication that PC is probably nonfunctional. Even these cans are possibly fake... Best to test those when there isn't a giant alien nearby.

You dont know how long this thing will be distracted for, so you cant take the risk of rooting through the various tech its got here for anything useful.
Bracing yourself you wait until it moves a little further into the other room then launch forward, aiming for the open vent on the wall.

before you can take three steps the things arm whips out lightning fast and grabs your foot, sending you sprawling face first on the cold ground!

The things grip is tight around your shoe but its still wedged halfway out the door, if your going to escape you have to try somethong right now!!
